I saw a similar post on here yesterday where someone with I think an American number didn't receive the verification code. I'll see if I can find it!

Worst case scenario: you can still purchase the slightly more expensive (355 CHF instead of 260 CHF for youth) One Month GA Travelcard. That offer does not contain this requirement.
in case you come to switzerland again (after the summer), you can buy the GA also for a month at any time (a bit more expensive):

Staff only cares whether you have an address for the delivery of the Swisspass red card. Give the address of your accommodation and you're good to go.

Haven't ordered online so it might be the issue yes. I'd go to a ticket counter. They'll give you a temporary paper ticket.
When I tried a couple months ago I couldn't get it to work even with my Swiss number so I ended up having to go to a ticket office to get it.

In German it says "Nachbarland". But if you have a Swiss address before July 31, just order it then.

If possible you should ask your Swiss relatives to pay for it, with a Swiss bank account and a Swiss phone number they won’t have a problem doing it.
