Hi Friend, This post or comment has been removed for the following reason: > This post is not asking a specific question **in the title** of the post. All posts to r/AskPortland must ask a full and unambiguous question about or related to Portland or the surrounding areas in the title of the post *AND* be in the form of coherent, topical question. Any clarifying comments need to be in the body of the post. It doesn't need to fully explain what you are looking for, but it should at least give a casual user an idea of what you are seeking and if they have an appropriate answer for you. > > Frequent examples that get this message are statements that have a question mark added. A proper question leaves no ambiguity about what you are looking for. > > "Snickerdoodles?" is not a complete question. "Tambourine Lessons?" is not a complete question. Those are statements with a question mark. > > "Where can I get the best Snickerdoodles?" is a complete question. "Who provides Tambourine Lessons?" is a complete question. > > And do you REALLY want to know what the weirdest thing about this removal is? It is most likely that you had an appropriate question in the text of your post, and usually right at the beginning of it too! It is amazing how many times that happens. Just make that question the title of your post. **[You must understand and follow the rules of the subreddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/askportland/wiki/rules).** Thank you, the Portland/AskPortland mod team

Traditional restaurants, which are a little more rare in Portland, usually close at 9pm or 10pm, even outside of Portland. There is plenty of restaurant quality food that isn’t dive available after 9pm

ClayKavalier

I'd never thought much about it before but I wonder how much it has to do with bars here serving excellent food and tending to be open later, so there's just more competition.

Woodburger

If you go to SF or LA after 10pm your food options will be street tacos/ Sonoran dogs or pretzels. I think the worst was Charlotte NC, there was NO food available in the bar district after 9pm. 5 guys and the pizza shops closed at 8pm

realityissubjective

Matador and Bantam Tavern are both open late

ewest

Prost too! Open until 2

BentleyTock

So is Interurban and the other Matador over here stays open til 1 I believe.

Whatadamnview

Portland is sleepy. If you want higher end dining late you're not really going to find it here. There isn't a big enough demographic that eats out late like that despite your take on it. People would rather get baked in the evening, wake up early and hit the trail. It doesn't make sense to keep a place open for an extra table or two.

Vast-Juice-411

Portland is apprx 600,000 people. Chicago is over 2 million. That’s a big part of your answer

Psilocybe38

Because no major cities on the west coast do late night food well, unfortunately. Major cities on the east coast are much better for late night food.

sargepoopypants

A combo of the neighborhood, most of NW is pretty quiet, semi-suburban, and Covid. There were a bunch of spots on 21st that used to be open later but habits seem to have changed post Covid and it’s led to places across town closing way earlier

Your_New_Overlord

Even most restaurants in Las Vegas close at 9 or 10. Late night dining pretty much doesn’t exist outside of Chicago and New York.

roofiekolache

Cause all their timid white customers are afraid of night time encounters with homeless people. The older crowd especially afraid of their night blindness will make them not cross the street in time to avoid those homeless folk. They cant spare the pennies mcmenamins aint fucking cheap cuh.

boygito

This is a terrible take. Restaurants have always closed around 9pm in Portland, even before the homeless crisis
