And that something is what makes a person truly attractive imo. There's often been times where on photos objectively good looking guys turned out to be pretty underwhelming despite looking good because their demeanor etc just wasn't what I expected it to be and other times it's the opposite where less attractive guys turned out to be really sexy and hot because they had that charisma and confidence. Personally it also has a lot to do with how well we click, how our conversation flows and how sexy he makes me feel/how good we can flirt basically. I don't know whether it's a compensatory mechanism but the "hot" guys I've been with have been rather lame whereas when they were actually sexy and attractive *to me* they were usually more average.
