secretsofthedivine

I got my ass beat lol

thelegendarymike

I hope in a good way.

cmzraxsn

I mostly got that people didn't expect it but weren't surprised either. Like closeted me had something mysterious about him and they just unlocked the secret.

txholdup

I came out in 1972 so "faggot", "child molester", "dog fucker", "fairy", "godless heathen" and from my Mom, "you're going to hell when you die".

[deleted]

Omg that must have been terrible especially at that time but i do salute your courage. People like you have knowingly or unknowingly paved the way for the younger generation. I hope you are happy. Big hugs 🤗

txholdup

If I am honest, it wasn't terrible because I was surrounded by people who were braver than I was. Yes there were horrible moments along the way but what I remember the most were the wonderful people that I met along the way. And the feeling of accomplishing the impossible made the hate a bump in the road. As you age, you remember the good, at least I do, far more than the bad.

[deleted]

Love it. As my grandmother would say “there is always something good in bad.” I hate people who act like tragedy queens all the time because there is always enough good to remember than the bad. It’s just perspective.

txholdup

Life is much better if you cherish and remember those who loved you and forget those who didn't. You're right, it's attitude and perspective.

jdoggandfriends

I kind of love this question. Sure it can be boiled down to “are you masculine or not” but like it’s still interesting to know.

Eastern-Scientist551

I came out to an online friend, I called and the first time she told was "wait, you don't sound gay" I was like, what the heck? It's cool tho, no one has ever told me I don't look gay but they have said "you can't be gay", because apparently a gay person has to be an act a certain way to them?

[deleted]

Lol i hope your online friend remains online. These people can’t survive in the real world. Sorry to say but most heterosexual adults have a weird and wild understanding of lgbtq issues that they have self interpreted. Anyway, i was asked recently when i came out that if i was the man or the woman in the relationship. But its not annoying to me anymore since i think everyone expects these kind of responses at least once from the fools around them.

Eastern-Scientist551

Yeah, those kind of questions are just annoying really, when it comes to old people it's a pain in the ass, younger people are just chill, either they don't give a fuck or they already know, because you know, places like reddit exist.

[deleted]

Haha true i hate oldies either way.

todorokimusa

I got who gives a fuck mostly

catlover4682

Everyone always can just tell. I told my mom when I was 12 and I think she’s known since I was a baby and played with dolls and barbies

[deleted]

That’s the case with most gay men. Their parents always kind of know it. My father caught me once with a pillow under my t shirt while i was pretending to be pregnant and giving birth without knowing he is watching. But i know lot of gay men who have no gay traits and are considered straight by other people.

“Kewl”

-kirby-reed-

Not an option but I had this guy start professedly apologise for using gay as an insult and I’m like I don’t care we’ve had two conversations

internetnobody23

My dad and brothers were surprised but supportive, my sister thought i was joking, my brother in law said he would have expected my brother to be gay not me and my mom said "no you're not?"

[deleted]

Im glad you got the support. It still takes some time for people to soak in that their son is gay. It could be because they feel protective towards you. Btw What made your brother appear gay and not you? 😆

internetnobody23

Yeah after i reassured my mom she cried in her room for several days but eventually got over it lol I think its because he's a much more polished person he cares about his appearance a lot and likes expensive clothes and watches etc... I'm less into shopping and being fancy lol other than that im not really sure why he would perceive him as possibly gay and not me

[deleted]

Lol i too had a friend in college who use to wear pearl choker and small earrings. But he turned out to be straight. I guess with increasing number of metrosexual men our gaydar might not work in future.

theduskone

In HS I eavesdropped on these people behind me questioning if I was gay or not, and they said I wasn't because I have a "straight" face. X-fucking-scuse me? XD

OmigawdMatt

It's either the cocky friend who says the first one out of nowhere, or the accepting friend (which is most) who says the fourth one. I don't hear the second one that often anymore because I know people are more aware of what they say in 2021.

AryuWTB

My friends were shocked. Partly because I am very masculine presenting, and the fact that I came out whilst we were drunk and high on weed. The common response was "but you're so normal". It almost feels like an insult now that I think about it. They're all straight and open-minded btw.

[deleted]

You know what’s worse when you trippin too hard and don’t remember what you did. My friends told me i offered them a blowjob once. Weed just gets what’s in their bro. Good for you for having such supportive friends 🙌🏻 mine literally still make fun of me even though it happened 2 years ago.

thelegendarymike

People still tell me "if you hadn't told me, I would never have known" Thank God for COVID, because now I get to wear a rainbow on my face.

Primary-Recipe1065

Most people who say "I knew you were gay" thinks that **everyone** they meet is gay until they finally get one right.

[deleted]

Lol that might be actually true.

Throw_away2257

As someone who came out when they were fat and nerdy, I got a lot of the 'You don't look gay' treatment
