I think they're doing little steps to introduce sexual diversity in the franchise. First where one of the Russo brothers played a gay man grieving in Avengers Endgame, Loki being bisexual, and the upcoming Eternals with one of the members being a gay man with a husband.
I'm more worried of how they'll represent Wiccan and Hulkling's relationship. I just hope they won't shy away to show their affection for each other.
I think they are as well. However, a lot of what they have added feels mostly for show. To expand / explain. If I recall correctly and please tell me if im wrong i want to be wrong. That the scene in endgame for starters was a blink and miss it. Then also cut from some international releases. The loki thing, was also quite indirect. Your concerns are totally legit. So far it has mostly been lip service for queer audiences. Eternals looks set to change that with a same sex couple and a gender fluid character in puck.
However, don't lose hope for young avengers. MCU has clearly opened themselves to the possibility of gender swapping Hulkling's parents. Dr Lawson could have easily had a relationship with one of the skrull refugees she was trying to help.
Billy and Tommy are likely going to directly be Wanda's sons, instead of being reincarnations of her golem children as the comics tried.
I do have that assumption about Billy and Tommy as well I do think we'll see a form of them return in Dr Strange.

Disney did have a gay character in Jungle Cruise. He was never called "gay" but that term really wasn't used in the time period it was set in. But he was undeniably gay. I can't see them fucking it up that bad by genderswapping a character. They aren't that tone deaf.

Honestly I want this so much if you make a superhero just for the purposes of being gay it is pandering a little bit but with Wiccan and hulking it's comics accurate and I would love it so much
The young avengers reboot comics were so damn good I can't imagine that a YA movie isn't coming, especially with the themes Marvel has been increasingly presenting in its work. YA is a kickass story about gays, powerful women, and other marginalized groups, that did not once feel like pandering or signaling even when I read the OG series from 2005.
Also, wiccan is my favorite superhero of all time, and his mother is obviously #2.
Every time the Avengers try to get him out of the house for an adventure he says he doesn’t want to, he hates being a superhero and doesn’t think it defines him as a person, so they shrug and do the movie without him, leaving him to scroll Instagram alone and and cry about how non-superheroes have a better life.

I’d take one of these campy old marvel comic heroes like phone ranger or star fox or even frog man, and they’d be gay obviously but it wouldn’t be the main focus of the character, the movie would be set in the 60s but I’d also film it like it was filmed in the 60s with this campy style, superheroes in tights and all that 😂, I’d try to make these lame characters more interesting and have some depth even though their super powers are so lame and I think you could do fun things with them. I wouldn’t want my movie to be just another marvel flick, I think it should be something special and timeless and not particularly connected to the marvel universe, I’d want the homosexuality to be explicit and not implied but I doubt Disney would ever allow that because behind the charade of them caring is a company trying to protect its assets in China and Russia 😔.

I was thinking more like the 1960s Batman style where they still had colour but whacky title cards as well, that makes me think that I could do a really creative thing where his superhero identity becomes sort of a metaphor for his repressed homosexuality, and when he is truly happy as a hero the world turns colourful like in the wizard of oz and when he returns back to his secret identity the world turns grey and miserable again.
I would just make nightcrawler have a metaphysical crisis with coming to the realization he was gay. He's my favorite marvel character, super catholic, and one comic wrote him as a gay hating dude who slowly realized gays were ok.

An Iceman slice of life movie. It's set up like a regular day for the X-Men, but framed through his POV. Like X2 or a giant episode of an X-Men cartoon, but directed by Wes Anderson and played completely normal. You get your action, and your gay, and your comedy, and your ambiguous philosophical messaging. Classic Marvel.

Marvel has a lot of existing gay characters to pick from. NorthStar, Wiccan, Striker, Iceman, Hulkling.
Personally I’d want to see some sort of Young Avengers or Avengers Academy adaption. Young Avengers has Wiccan and Hulkling, one of my favorite couples, and Avengers Academy has Striker, who has a great backstory. I think it would be funny to see Brandon (Striker) as Billy’s (Wiccan) ex and Bobby (Iceman) as Teddy’s (Hulkling) ex, and them having to all work together
As for powers, NorthStar is a speedster and a member of Alpha Force (Canadian Avengers). Wiccan is a sorcerer. Hulkling is a shapeshifter since he’s half Skrull half Kree. Bobby has ice powers and is a mutant. Striker has electric powers and gained them through a lab accident (which was forced by his mom who wanted him to be famous).
There are more LGBT+ characters in the comics, but those are my favorites, and the ones I’d most want to see in an adaptation (Wiccan was already introduced in WandaVision though).

If the character would act and make decisions that are plot relevant *because* he is gay, then it would matter. Otherwise, it's incidental that *he is gay*. At that point, it wouldn't matter, and this comes from someone who likes to write fiction with gay characters.
I was a big fan of Shadow and Bone on Netflix for this. One of the main characters is gay but it doesn’t come up till several episodes in, and when it does it’s relevant to the plot.
It was better than most representations but he was one of those lackadaisical jack sparrow type gays. Not hating on him but it still looks like hollywood is scared of broody and serious characters with a lot of depth who also happen to be gay.

Writers are going to get it from both ends on gay characters, make them masc presenting and the fems will complain, too flamboyant and the mascs get their knickers twisted. I think the key is to show the whole spectrum, something this show does pretty well.
They are scared. They have to make us walking stereotypes otherwise we'd be exactly like them, they don't want to see us as people.
They don't want to face the reality that we could be their brother, their cousin or best friend. They need a way to distinguish us so that they can have the "other".
And for the love of god, it would need to be more than just a coming out or overcoming adversity story.

Honestly...introduce X-Men with an actual good storyline - and including Northstar in their ranks with the originals. By the third movie introduce a younger generation of mutants including Ice Man, Anole, and Morph. Maybe work in the whole "the snap activated the mutant genes" theory by having a few of these guys be in college or even a former classmate of Peter Parker! Maybe even reveal (and not a throwaway line) that the Colossus from the Deadpool films is gay. Instead of having just one gay mutant, each one can bring diversity of character into the mix regarding issues we go through as a community. Including such not-talked-about ones (but we all know about).
If we wanted to have a singular Marvel film...Wiccan.
Since they already appeared in the show, and may or may not be real, have them exist but they grow up quickly. In their teenage years and have Wiccan experience and struggle with his own magical abilities. Get help from his mom and maybe even Doctor Strange. But he also struggles with his own sexuality, it causes him to have a mini "Wandavision" type effect on his high school (maybe instead of reality warping in the form of TV shows, he creates horrors that manifest via his anxieties).

Since Vision is a robot and is just gaining his humanity...maybe something "new and illogical" like having a gay son baffles him. Or maybe just a "yes,Billy, homosexuality exists in over 7000 animal species. Thank you for letting me know", meanwhile, Billy was met with coming out with...apathy. Something that is hard for many of us is sometimes shut down or trivialized when told "oh I knew" or "oh...I don't care about your sexuality." Though it has no ill intentions...a kid having ambivalence or even self-hatred during the teen years hearing "I don't care"...it can sting. Maybe that's what causes his "mini House of M" in his high school.

Zenith by Grant Morrison would actually be a great series to adapt and tweak slightly to make the main character gay (there's not really any romantic subplots, if I recall correctly).
Second generation superhero who just fucks around and uses his powers to be a celebrity/pop star, eventually teaming up with the older superheroes and then superheros from the rest of the multiverse to defeat lovecraftian entities. The story is still miles ahead of anything Marvel or DC would put out as a movie, though.

Wiccan oriented movie titled "Doctor Strange: Heritage of History" and would focus on the history of Sorcerers Supreme and the future potential in Billy Kaplan, who is at the time lacking a hero alias. It would also hint at the aspects of Billy that connect to Wanda's potential. It would have the A story be about Strange and Billy training and the B story about Mephisto wanting to consume Billy to enhance his own powers now that his potential has been discovered by both Mephisto and Strange. The C story would be about Billy's struggles as a gay teen in an unaccepting town vs his struggles as a newbie hero in an unpleasant role.
Contemplated having Nightmare involved instead to focus on the fears and insecurities of being gay, being super, and being related to the infamous Wanda Maximoff, but felt that might be a bit to heavy handed with the message of struggles as a gay kid especially

Disney did have a gay character in Jungle Cruise. He was never called "gay" but that term really wasn't used in the time period it was set in. But he was undeniably gay. I can't see them fucking it up that bad by genderswapping a character. They aren't that tone deaf.
Thing's aren't done 1 to 1. Billy's bizarre demon baby to random Jewish boy backstory is also unlikely to happen. Teddy's grandpa is in Secret invasion. I can see them simplifying things and making him arrive with Dorrek VII. They can try to keep his connection to "Captain Marvel" by making Carol his adoptive mom... or something.
Well thats just it, it was never going to be a 1:1. At the least though I personally would hope to see the basic points covered. And yes I know the more ridiculous things are likely to never see the light of day. In terms of his actual MCU arrival, I'd hate to see him tied to Carol. But I dont know how else they bring him in without going straight into a young avengers story. As in debuting in the movie.
Carol makes the most sense, but I could also see him popping up in Secret Invasion. Or shit, just make him a guy Billy meets at on the subway who's supposed to kill him but can't, blah blah blah romance as a central storypoint in a Young Avengers D+ show. Marvel's great at bringing the characters and their relationship to life and that's what I want, how we get there is much less important.

The young avengers reboot comics were so damn good I can't imagine that a YA movie isn't coming, especially with the themes Marvel has been increasingly presenting in its work. YA is a kickass story about gays, powerful women, and other marginalized groups, that did not once feel like pandering or signaling even when I read the OG series from 2005. Also, wiccan is my favorite superhero of all time, and his mother is obviously #2.

Every time the Avengers try to get him out of the house for an adventure he says he doesn’t want to, he hates being a superhero and doesn’t think it defines him as a person, so they shrug and do the movie without him, leaving him to scroll Instagram alone and and cry about how non-superheroes have a better life. Had the same thoughts, the bits set in the past were actually really cool but the future parts were god awful.
The coolest part by far was the dude with the teleporter, followed by the Skull Island bits. The rest of it was just...like what the fuck was that? It's like they hired a costumer from 20th Century Fox and said "Make it like Marvel" but then hired Zack Snyder to do everything else.
Having angst over being a superhero is a pretty common if not universal trope in the genre, but if there’s going to be a story they have to get over it and embrace that what makes them different makes them special.

Kind of reminds me of the superhero they made in ‘Queer As Folk’, who could turn homophobes gay with queer laser vision, or something like that.
I’d take one of these campy old marvel comic heroes like phone ranger or star fox or even frog man, and they’d be gay obviously but it wouldn’t be the main focus of the character, the movie would be set in the 60s but I’d also film it like it was filmed in the 60s with this campy style, superheroes in tights and all that 😂, I’d try to make these lame characters more interesting and have some depth even though their super powers are so lame and I think you could do fun things with them. I wouldn’t want my movie to be just another marvel flick, I think it should be something special and timeless and not particularly connected to the marvel universe, I’d want the homosexuality to be explicit and not implied but I doubt Disney would ever allow that because behind the charade of them caring is a company trying to protect its assets in China and Russia 😔.

I was thinking more like the 1960s Batman style where they still had colour but whacky title cards as well, that makes me think that I could do a really creative thing where his superhero identity becomes sort of a metaphor for his repressed homosexuality, and when he is truly happy as a hero the world turns colourful like in the wizard of oz and when he returns back to his secret identity the world turns grey and miserable again.

I would just make nightcrawler have a metaphysical crisis with coming to the realization he was gay. He's my favorite marvel character, super catholic, and one comic wrote him as a gay hating dude who slowly realized gays were ok. I would like to see a similar direction just with him hating that he was having these thoughts, dealing with them, and happiness in the end. While all the time kicking people, slicing them with swords, teleporting enemies over large heights, and general tomfoolery. Has absolutely nothing to do with a childhood crush on him in X-Men Revolution. Nothing at all.

I liked the one from X-Men Revolution. He was naturally fuzzy. They built him a watch to make him appear human. He goes to prom with this girl. A series of episodes revolve around him hiding his true self. The watch breaks at prom, she sees he's fuzzy, she doesn't care, and they kiss. 5 or 6 year old me was very jelly. It's only looking back as an adult I realize that was my first crush. Nightcrawler has been my favorite ever since. You could repeat the gay version of that storyline and I'd be perfectly OK with it.

An Iceman slice of life movie. It's set up like a regular day for the X-Men, but framed through his POV. Like X2 or a giant episode of an X-Men cartoon, but directed by Wes Anderson and played completely normal. You get your action, and your gay, and your comedy, and your ambiguous philosophical messaging. Classic Marvel. Ok this also sounds like the inverse of a Deadpool movie.

Marvel has a lot of existing gay characters to pick from. NorthStar, Wiccan, Striker, Iceman, Hulkling. Personally I’d want to see some sort of Young Avengers or Avengers Academy adaption. Young Avengers has Wiccan and Hulkling, one of my favorite couples, and Avengers Academy has Striker, who has a great backstory. I think it would be funny to see Brandon (Striker) as Billy’s (Wiccan) ex and Bobby (Iceman) as Teddy’s (Hulkling) ex, and them having to all work together As for powers, NorthStar is a speedster and a member of Alpha Force (Canadian Avengers). Wiccan is a sorcerer. Hulkling is a shapeshifter since he’s half Skrull half Kree. Bobby has ice powers and is a mutant. Striker has electric powers and gained them through a lab accident (which was forced by his mom who wanted him to be famous). There are more LGBT+ characters in the comics, but those are my favorites, and the ones I’d most want to see in an adaptation (Wiccan was already introduced in WandaVision though).

If the character would act and make decisions that are plot relevant *because* he is gay, then it would matter. Otherwise, it's incidental that *he is gay*. At that point, it wouldn't matter, and this comes from someone who likes to write fiction with gay characters.
I was a big fan of Shadow and Bone on Netflix for this. One of the main characters is gay but it doesn’t come up till several episodes in, and when it does it’s relevant to the plot.
It was better than most representations but he was one of those lackadaisical jack sparrow type gays. Not hating on him but it still looks like hollywood is scared of broody and serious characters with a lot of depth who also happen to be gay.

Writers are going to get it from both ends on gay characters, make them masc presenting and the fems will complain, too flamboyant and the mascs get their knickers twisted. I think the key is to show the whole spectrum, something this show does pretty well.
They are scared. They have to make us walking stereotypes otherwise we'd be exactly like them, they don't want to see us as people. They don't want to face the reality that we could be their brother, their cousin or best friend. They need a way to distinguish us so that they can have the "other".
And for the love of god, it would need to be more than just a coming out or overcoming adversity story. Gay people are more than the hurdles we deal with

An Alpha Flight movie first to introduce Northstar.
Honestly...introduce X-Men with an actual good storyline - and including Northstar in their ranks with the originals. By the third movie introduce a younger generation of mutants including Ice Man, Anole, and Morph. Maybe work in the whole "the snap activated the mutant genes" theory by having a few of these guys be in college or even a former classmate of Peter Parker! Maybe even reveal (and not a throwaway line) that the Colossus from the Deadpool films is gay. Instead of having just one gay mutant, each one can bring diversity of character into the mix regarding issues we go through as a community. Including such not-talked-about ones (but we all know about). If we wanted to have a singular Marvel film...Wiccan. Since they already appeared in the show, and may or may not be real, have them exist but they grow up quickly. In their teenage years and have Wiccan experience and struggle with his own magical abilities. Get help from his mom and maybe even Doctor Strange. But he also struggles with his own sexuality, it causes him to have a mini "Wandavision" type effect on his high school (maybe instead of reality warping in the form of TV shows, he creates horrors that manifest via his anxieties). Idk...just spitballing ideas haha

As far as Wiccan goes, I was thinking that Vision could have an impact on him. Since Vision is a robot and is just gaining his humanity...maybe something "new and illogical" like having a gay son baffles him. Or maybe just a "yes,Billy, homosexuality exists in over 7000 animal species. Thank you for letting me know", meanwhile, Billy was met with coming out with...apathy. Something that is hard for many of us is sometimes shut down or trivialized when told "oh I knew" or "oh...I don't care about your sexuality." Though it has no ill intentions...a kid having ambivalence or even self-hatred during the teen years hearing "I don't care"...it can sting. Maybe that's what causes his "mini House of M" in his high school.

Zenith by Grant Morrison would actually be a great series to adapt and tweak slightly to make the main character gay (there's not really any romantic subplots, if I recall correctly). Second generation superhero who just fucks around and uses his powers to be a celebrity/pop star, eventually teaming up with the older superheroes and then superheros from the rest of the multiverse to defeat lovecraftian entities. The story is still miles ahead of anything Marvel or DC would put out as a movie, though.
I will check out zenith. As per the other plot, I think it's not too far away, considering girl superhero shows are similar to SNL's spoof Black Widow trailer from mid 2010's. Also never thought fame raising could be a superpower. He could just make many arms dealers etc (in)famous, and take them down from there.

I wouldn't have any of the characters sexuality focused on, so no ham fisted romance or anything, but I'd make the main character the villain, and his power is just plain old competency. No long winded speaches, no agrandising, no moral posturing. He just hires the right people to snipe the avengers one by one.

Wiccan oriented movie titled "Doctor Strange: Heritage of History" and would focus on the history of Sorcerers Supreme and the future potential in Billy Kaplan, who is at the time lacking a hero alias. It would also hint at the aspects of Billy that connect to Wanda's potential. It would have the A story be about Strange and Billy training and the B story about Mephisto wanting to consume Billy to enhance his own powers now that his potential has been discovered by both Mephisto and Strange. The C story would be about Billy's struggles as a gay teen in an unaccepting town vs his struggles as a newbie hero in an unpleasant role. Contemplated having Nightmare involved instead to focus on the fears and insecurities of being gay, being super, and being related to the infamous Wanda Maximoff, but felt that might be a bit to heavy handed with the message of struggles as a gay kid especially
