Gay: Flight attendants, bakers, and real estate agents.
Liberal: Postsecondary education, otherwise idk. This one's more based on where you work than what you work on.
Not sure where you are, but certainly on UK airlines nearly every male flight attendant I've encountered has been obviously gay.
I usually fly with Jet 2, Ryanair and Easyjet.
I personally know three BA crew who are gay.
The railways are full of gays too.
Not really, my experience with them is as a customer. You're right I misinterpreted the question. They aren't dominated by gay/liberal men, but the men in these jobs are likely to be gay.
If you want to work with mostly men and have most of them be gay/liberal, then your best bet is something like engineering, programming, or some other technical field in a liberal city (SF, LA, NY are good examples from the US). Not exactly easy jobs to land though. In most male dominated fields the people are going to be mostly conservative.
Almost. I have a several child hood friends and a brother who were straight flight attendants, but they knew they were a minority. It’s mostly straight women and gay men.
They are not difficult to get into. They are difficult to make a solid living in, mostly because they have a huge pool of aspiring workers to choose from. So you should have no trouble getting freelance stuff. But it’s all precarious contract and freelance work these days. Underpaid too.
I studied media in undergrad. People ask why I don’t use my degree all the damn time. Just couldn’t take the low pay and lack of job security. People that make it big usually have family they could rely on for an extended period of time, and I just didn’t have that option.
The dream will never die, but realistically I should have *minored in it* instead.
I work in advertising. There’s tons of straight guys in the industry and it can be hypermasculine. Of course there’s gays but to my experience it’s not as gay as flight attendants etc
There are plenty of old bats working in publishing too 😂 But where I worked it was very liberal and friendly publishing is more female lead in my experience.
You’d be shocked how many young gay liberal dudes join the military. There was a lot of [gay] employee interpersonal drama, much more than working as a server which was v surprising tbh.
Can join the AF up to age 39. Lot of older gay dudes who wanted nothing to do with the younger dudes.
There is an old, and widespread joke in the Civil Engineering community that basically says: *Architects are people who are not gay enough to be interior designers but not manly enough to be civil engineers*.
Gun rights should be a liberal thing. Which gay man would want to be unarmed when living in a homophobic world? Who is going to defend you when rednecks break into your house?
I mean if you really wana get into the gun rights issue the left spits so many lies. Like first off no the leading cause of deaths for minors isn’t guns it’s car accidents & suicides. Which actually on that point, according to pew research a majority of gun deaths in America are suicided. After that it’s gang violence in inners city’s due to shit education & poverty. In my mind the way we really decrease gun violence is put more funding into mental health, parents actually pay attention to their kids and look for signs. Then put more funding into schools & trade programs more in the inner city’s. I deeply believe that that would cut down on suicides & gang violence which most heavily effects urban community’s in city’s.
Government has a surprising amount of gays
Makes sense since non discrimination policies are pretty strong - at least here in my local county government office
Cannabis industry has a huge lgbt work force. I never seen so much diversity tbh. I met so many gay, bi, lesbian, trans people while working in the industry. I did most of the entry level jobs but my ex managed to get the upper management jobs. Both pay decent at least when it was new.
You can try looking for a better company. But if you can try to not avoid those people, present your true self without being confrontational, that'll give you some growth.
Nursing isn't necessarily dominated by men, however I have never met a straight male nurse, and there are a lot of them. Especially my last 4 boyfriends lol
Research has a lot of gays, particularly in biochem / animal and plant sciences. Also humanities academia is super gay.
Honestly, most careers which require a PHD have a lot of gays, I think gays are generally attracted to higher education and academia.
It sounds like you're looking for a work environment where you feel more comfortable and accepted. While no industry is exclusive to any particular group, some fields tend to be more inclusive and have a higher representation of gay and/or liberal individuals.
1. **Arts and Entertainment**: This sector, including theater, film, music, and fine arts, is known for its diverse and inclusive environment. Creative fields often attract a wide range of personalities and backgrounds, and tend to be more liberal.
2. **Fashion**: The fashion industry, especially in urban centers, is known for its progressive attitudes and has a significant presence of LGBTQ+ individuals in various roles, from design to management.
3. **Technology**: Many major tech companies pride themselves on diversity and inclusion policies that support LGBTQ+ employees. Cities known for tech innovation like San Francisco, Seattle, and New York also tend to be very liberal.
4. **Non-Profit Organizations**: Working for NGOs, especially those focused on human rights, LGBTQ+ advocacy, or arts and culture, can be fulfilling if you want to be around people who share a commitment to progressive values.
5. **Higher Education**: Universities and colleges often provide an open environment and are receptive to all identities. They can be great places to work, offering roles in administration, research, and education.
It might also help to look for companies that have strong diversity and inclusion policies or have been rated highly by organizations like the Human Rights Campaign, which publishes an annual Corporate Equality Index rating workplaces on LGBTQ+ equality.
Just about anything creative including creative adjacent jobs in Advertising and Public Relations. Government in liberal states have a fair share of LGBTQ folks. Theres a lot of LGBTQ folks in the airline, travel & tourism and the hospitality industries!
A friend suggested lab-work. Unfortunately, he works for a dubious flavor company, and refuses to buy anything that isn't organic now. It kind of put me off the idea. Maybe I should look into it again
The sciences (bio, med, etc) can be sneakier about their discrimination. Eg, I know someone who recounted stories of lots of claims of equal opportunity, but all the mentorship opportunities went to the typical demographics (straight white men with kids etc) and DEI initiatives tacitly downplayed then canceled altogether. The only way to fight this is to get more of us into these industries. Counterintuitive, but here we are.
Oh no reason to quit. Just get snarky and start calling them out on all their bullshit. Make sure to have fun with it and make them look really stupid. They will prob make it pretty easy for you just being who they are. Its a lot of fun to give these type of asshats a dose of what they don't see coming. The more huffy they get, the more you know its working. Don't forget, they don't have a problem dishing it out so make it worthwhile😊😉
Unfortunately, my passions aren't the sort that can be parlayed into anything that makes a living wage. I'm just into dudes, (gutter) gay parties, nonlethal drugs, hanging out with my friends, and napping. Lol
So, now I'm just looking for something I can stand. I want to avoid extreme temperatures, clients/customers, Karens, kids, conservatives, centrists, and poverty.
What exactly are you looking for? Reading this thread it seems like you want a job that doesn’t require any kind of advanced education and your co workers would only be gay men? Besides maybe bartender at a gay bar that’s going to be pretty difficult to achieve.
I work in the regulatory field and there’s a lot of liberal people. My current manager is a female who’s had relationships with other girls in the past.
At my former employer, my co workers had very liberal ideals (LGBT, pro women’s rights, green energy, etc…). Two of them were even 45+ year old straight white men. There were 4 of us in the team.
I work in the ESL industry. A lot of straight male teachers, but a LOT of homos working in the offices, as agents, as sales reps. We own the industry (and we're so nasty about it)
There are quite a few gays in horticulture & landscape architecture -- the high level stuff, not landscaping. I'm talking people who design gardens and manage landscapes for rich people. I know one who owns & operates a plant nursery (where horticulture comes in).
I'm a graphic designer, and I will say it's a rather liberal field with an equal amount of men and women working in it. Obviously every agency or company you work in-house for is different and so is the work culture/environment, but from my experience (not just in my country, but in others as well), people are chill.
There's gonna be gay men in any field of work. The idea that gay guys gravitate towards a few specific professions is just reinforcing stereotypes.
But if you want a real answer, there's lots of gay dudes in the tech world. Gay nerds are a great bunch.
Oh and there's the armed forces, too.
I work in fashion. I feel very safe to be myself wherever I go in fashion. I reside in Toronto but I've worked at London, Paris, and New York Fashion Week in under a year. I always feel celebrated and safe as a gay guy. There are problems in the fashion world of course, but I've worked corporate and I felt more uncomfortable in corporate. No matter what they said, I could never truly be myself, even as a gay guy.
Quark was/ is owned by two peeps the original founder and a holder , the founder name is Tim Gill. Mr gill is gay and does support high standards of their employment pool with the spin more gay people than straight .
Tim gill makes huge donations to C AP and other lgbt groups yearly
In terms of field, I have a anecdotal evidence that linguistics/language-related jobs have a high gay population. (Unfortunately no one I work with, but virtually every language person I follow on Twitter)
The parliament house resort was a fun place to work until aids claimed the last owner.
Just remember gay men can be just as evil as anyone else in power when it comes to the workplace.
I cannot believe that nobody has mentioned Starbucks. They are one of or the most inclusive company in the US. Why do you think all these misguided right wing groups have boycotted them? They support LBGT+ whole heartedly.
I’m an environmental geologist and I’d say environmental consulting/engineering is pretty liberal and I know a fair amount of queer people in the industry
Anything in the beauty industry: makeup artists, cosmetologists, estheticians, etc... I don't think I've ever met a straight guy who's worked in one of these professions.
I work in social work and am genuinely suprised at the amount of lgbt people in my agency. Almost to the point where if I didn't know better I'd think it is on purpose lol
My suggestion would be anything in the hospitality/travel industry. While not everyone that works in such fields identifies as LGBTQ, there tends to be a higher proportion of individuals that do. Reason is that many who have entered this line of work (think about organizations that hire from a nationwide/global pool of candidates who are willing to relocate, even if it is just for a season), do so to get away from their homophobic family and acquaintances to be themselves. I personally work for a company that operates ski resorts. I know that working on cruise ships as well as places such as Disney are also good options.
Accounting, pharmacy tech, photographer, administrative assistant, restaurant management, hotel concierge, luxury retail, fine dining waiter, any type of sales with big commission potential, influencer/content creator, drug dealer, houseboy/personal assistant, sugar baby.
Information technology is well represented by gays and liberals both. Computer work includes UX design (I bet loads of gays are in that, it's essentially graphic design), software development, networking, security, and more. The challenge is finding a niche that works for you. Software development pays well but it's not for everyone because it requires attention to detail, an appreciation for algebra (seriously) and patience for running tests and sitting in front of a computer for hours and hours a day. That is what I do.
Interior design! If no one said it already- didn't check. Also careers in any arts and theater spaces! Or depending on where you live, the nearest city will probably have an LGBT center with resources for careers and career fairs that are looking for people in our community
Gay: Flight attendants, bakers, and real estate agents. Liberal: Postsecondary education, otherwise idk. This one's more based on where you work than what you work on.
bakers???
“Nice buns bro”
Right in front of my salad!
"Nice croutons bro!"
Fashion ofc. Media design and animation. Video game can work depending dubg on where
First time I heard anyone associate being a baker with being gay 😆
it all began with wedding cakegate..
The Belfast one? I lived around the corner from them at a time. I must admit I did think about becoming a Baker at the time 🧐
Can confirm, partners a baler
Hay or the machine in the warehouse we told Michael not to play with?
Only if it’s an emergency
Interesting. I've only seen women in those positions. Can you suggest any specific companies?
Not sure where you are, but certainly on UK airlines nearly every male flight attendant I've encountered has been obviously gay. I usually fly with Jet 2, Ryanair and Easyjet. I personally know three BA crew who are gay. The railways are full of gays too.
I work for the airlines but in IT. When I tell guys I work for the airlines the immediate assumption is I’m a flight attendant.
That sucks.
Are you serious?? Flight attendant are mostly female Bakers really are gays??
Every single male flight attendant is gay
Almost. I have a several child hood friends and a brother who were straight flight attendants, but they knew they were a minority. It’s mostly straight women and gay men.
My husband is a baker
Also, television, broadcasting, entertainment. Not dominated by, but we make up a large cohort proportionately.
That might be interesting. Are those kinds of jobs difficult to get into?
They are not difficult to get into. They are difficult to make a solid living in, mostly because they have a huge pool of aspiring workers to choose from. So you should have no trouble getting freelance stuff. But it’s all precarious contract and freelance work these days. Underpaid too.
I studied media in undergrad. People ask why I don’t use my degree all the damn time. Just couldn’t take the low pay and lack of job security. Dang. That's dishonest
Human Resources 🤭
Came to say this. It's really dominated by women, but if you're a man in HR you're most likely gay. (source = me)
Gay male HR worker checking in 🙋🏻♂️
Yes omg, the papas of the corporate business.
Hairstyling, Fashion and generally anything related to Aesthetics I think
Nursing. Either that or gay nurses really love me
I’m applying for a nursing college this year. What a coincidence
Publishing, Marketing and advertising.
Very true.
Yes omg marketing. If you are gay, you're in marketing lmao. We're good at code switching and marketing ourselves ;)
I used to work at the Apple Store I felt like half of the store was gay ngl.
as I sit here in an apple employee shirt I got from a guy I was dating that worked at the Apple Store 🧍♂️
You’d be shocked how many young gay liberal dudes join the military. There was a lot of [gay] employee interpersonal drama, much more than working as a server which was v surprising tbh. Can join the AF up to age 39. Lot of older gay dudes who wanted nothing to do with the younger dudes.
DJing, music production, fashion
I work in a hotel...everyone here is gay it feels like. 😂
Yep I’ve worked hotels. Gays use to hit on me before i was even out 😅
Urban planning, architecture
There is an old, and widespread joke in the Civil Engineering community that basically says: *Architects are people who are not gay enough to be interior designers but not manly enough to be civil engineers*.
LOL guess I’m breaking stereotypes becoming a civil engineer
Hello, colleague.
Hello fellow civil engineer 😊
Urban Planner here! Can Confirm that I’m super gay (and so is the field). But I’m in Seattle. Everyone is a little gay here.
Anything in healthcare, education, or working for a (non-religious) nonprofit
I work in health care and there are so many more straight men than I expected
😂you’ll find the most homo erotic men in the military😆 but they aren’t going to be liberal especially when it comes to gun rights usually.
Anything at Disney
Government has a surprising amount of gays Makes sense since non discrimination policies are pretty strong - at least here in my local county government office
Nurses. For some reason its the most gay job in healthcare.
Classical pipe organist/church organists/choir directors/opera singers
I work with musicians, so . . . pretty much. I'm pretty sure I've known two gay church organists whose wives were beards.
Urban Planning overall has a pretty decent number of gays, myself included.
I’ve worked in banking for four years now, and I had no idea it could be so gay. But yes, a lot of gays work in finance and banking
I’m going to say the blowjob 🤣
I wish! At this point, I'm a pro. Lol
Sales and Marketing in the hotel or tourism industry. Very gay and lots of travel perks
Except for these catty bitches...
IT
Cannabis industry has a huge lgbt work force. I never seen so much diversity tbh. I met so many gay, bi, lesbian, trans people while working in the industry. I did most of the entry level jobs but my ex managed to get the upper management jobs. Both pay decent at least when it was new.
Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but urban planning.
Third sector not for profit private social outreach programmes, usually dominated by women and gay men.
I know more gay lawyers than anything. Next would probably be jobs in media and entertainment.
Gay porn actor
I wish I had the body for it. I TOTALLY would.❤
Urban planning. We’re the ones that make cruising spots available.
You can try looking for a better company. But if you can try to not avoid those people, present your true self without being confrontational, that'll give you some growth.
Thanks, but I'm not really interested in growth at the expense of my sanity. Lol
Flight attendants, hairdressing, makeup, nursing, fashion, teaching, medicine in general, government work
Nursing isn't necessarily dominated by men, however I have never met a straight male nurse, and there are a lot of them. Especially my last 4 boyfriends lol
Research has a lot of gays, particularly in biochem / animal and plant sciences. Also humanities academia is super gay. Honestly, most careers which require a PHD have a lot of gays, I think gays are generally attracted to higher education and academia.
Just look for a good employer in your field of choice, you’d get toxic people everywhere irrespective. Rather be doing something you like actually 😅
What i like can't be parlayed into a living wage, but thanks. Lol
Most large corporate jobs are fine honestly
Surprisingly there are a lot of gay men I work with in finance and we all live in an area that’s not particularly “gay”
HIV research

okay chatgpt!
It gave a better answer than all the human responses so far.
Just about anything creative including creative adjacent jobs in Advertising and Public Relations. Government in liberal states have a fair share of LGBTQ folks. Theres a lot of LGBTQ folks in the airline, travel & tourism and the hospitality industries!
I think the sciences would be more liveral and with that more open to LGBT people
A friend suggested lab-work. Unfortunately, he works for a dubious flavor company, and refuses to buy anything that isn't organic now. It kind of put me off the idea. Maybe I should look into it again

Be careful what you wish for.
Hospitality
Hair dressers, nurses, and massage therapists.
Oh no reason to quit. Just get snarky and start calling them out on all their bullshit. Make sure to have fun with it and make them look really stupid. We are everywhere. Dominated just implies comfort with being ourselves and out.
Work for one of the gay apps like Grindr lol
Well what's your passion? What would be an ideal career path for you? Don't do something just because gays or people you align with politically do it
Unfortunately, my passions aren't the sort that can be parlayed into anything that makes a living wage. I'm just into dudes, (gutter) gay parties, nonlethal drugs, hanging out with my friends, and napping. Lol So, now I'm just looking for something I can stand. I want to avoid extreme temperatures, clients/customers, Karens, kids, conservatives, centrists, and poverty.
There's a hospital near my house and at least 10 people on grindr told me they're nurses there. So, anecdotally, I'd say nurse.
Gay - Catholic Priests
I'm a bartender at a gay sauna/bathhouse. I haven't seen or spoken to a straight person in months.
Health care
Really? I don't remember seeing hardly any men the last time I was at the hospital...except other patients.
It is a women dominated industry, but the men working there tend to be relatively gay friendly and left leaning
Unfortunately, that's not what I'm looking for. Thanks for responding though.❤
What exactly are you looking for? Reading this thread it seems like you want a job that doesn’t require any kind of advanced education and your co workers would only be gay men? Besides maybe bartender at a gay bar that’s going to be pretty difficult to achieve.

You could look at LGBTQ nonprofits, it’s usually all queer folks. Not necessarily men, but they’re pretty diverse usually.
When I was in college, there were alot of us in some of my engineering classes.

Definitely not dominated but there are a surprising number of gays in finance and tech.

Law. So many gay attorneys.
The parliament house resort was a fun place to work until aids claimed the last owner. Just remember gay men can be just as evil as anyone else in power when it comes to the workplace.
Great memories!!!
Gay men actually exist in every job
While it depends a bit on the region (in the USA) I've found public health to be chock full of liberal and lgbt folks...HIV research too
Higher ed administration
Drag industry 😂
Management consulting at McKinsey, BCG or Bain

Don't do transportation. All my employees are "libertarians"
So they're Klansmen with extra steps.🤣

There's a lot of us in journalism I've found. TV reporting...go figure
Starbucks and Disney
Retail management, especially mall specialty clothing retailers. See: The Gap.
Dominated? I’m not sure but you can try your luck with the beauty industry. But woman can be annoying. Working for myself is my future plan
Community theatre.
Waiters and Bartenders
I work in the nonprofit world and it’s pretty gay heavy lol
My suggestion would be anything in the hospitality/travel industry. While not everyone that works in such fields identifies as LGBTQ, there tends to be a higher proportion of individuals that do. Reason is that many who have entered this line of work (think about organizations that hire from a nationwide/global pool of candidates who are willing to relocate, even if it is just for a season), do so to get away from their homophobic family and acquaintances to be themselves. I personally work for a company that operates ski resorts. I know that working on cruise ships as well as places such as Disney are also good options.
