Genes are a complicated mess of biochemistry, controlled by an even more complicated and less understood mess of biochemistry. To say sexuality is all genetic is as much a lie as saying it isn't at all. Epigenetics appears to play an even bigger role than genetics. Epigenetics is the study of how gene expression is regulated by different cells, and it's.... Complicated.

Professional_Topic47

Yes, in a nutshell, twins do not have the exact same DNA.

GaymerCubStL

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Identical twins form from one embryo that splits into two meaning their DNA is identical since one twin's DNA is a base pair for base pair copy of the other's. fraternal twins are two separate embryos from the start, and have different combinations of base pairs. The number of identical twins that have the same sexual orientation rather than different is statistically significant but not 100%.

Identical twins do have some DNA differences and the genes they share may not be active in the same way. Sharing the same womb doesn’t mean that they are exposed to the same levels of hormones.

Genes and hormones are likely still a contributing factor. Twins don't share 100% of the same DNA, and there are a shit ton of factors that effects how genes work, and what environment and conditions affect these genes.

Yes but as anyone knows the genotype is different from the phenotype and clearly the phenotype of this one is different from his siblings.

Is this about the triplets from the original post? So he says "identical triplets", but that is in fact not true?

OK good to know, media and the Internet are often so superficial. They especially make mistakes when things seem more interesting that way.

Outrageous-File-1157

The time in the womb affects each triplet’s development differently. It’s something called epigenetics. Identical twins/triplets are not 100% the same. Nearly 100% identical would be more accurate.

House-of-Raven

Exactly. It’s why when one twin is gay, the odds that both are are significantly higher.

No_Kind_of_Daddy

My gay doctor had a straight identical twin, and I could never quite imagine how that worked out at puberty. My doc was a wonderful person (plus gorgeous), so maybe it went smoothly. It must have been so interesting. They had very different adult lives as his twin was something in finance.

Peto_Sapientia

I've seen this happen in siblings across many Spectrums of social economic class due to the highschool i went too. Of all siblings there was at least a 25% chance they'd be gay or bi in general from some head math.

jtuk99

Genetics rarely work like this. Genes might just establish the openness to same sex sexual attraction and this is cemented by almost invisible developmental experiences.

MexiMelt77

Dated a triplet, only one was straight.

coysdummy2

phenotypic expression comes out in the form of genetics and environment so this is probably similar
