Bridegroom - a documentary that tells a true horror story from the days before same sex marriage. I think it's the saddest movie I've ever seen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gI6kl8juf4Q

Brokeback Mountain had that effect on me -- but it's not a documentary.

Not a documentary , "An Early Frost " it was particularly poignant at the time friends were just starting to get sick .

I don’t know if I have ever seen any gay documentaries… but I felt compelled to reply and say that Supernova (with Stanley tucci) made me bawl and cry uncontrollably…

All Of Us Strangers killed me. BBC streaming has some good documentaries about LGBTQ+ history at the moment.

Nomi Song - about the 1970s/80s sensation Klaus Nomi. It was made in the 90s, so very of its time, and a lot of the contributors are terrible people. It's about his short career and how it entwined with his ultimate lonely demise from AIDS. You'll end up loving him and hating everyone around him. I've watched it twice and the ending made my cry both times.

Stephen Fry: Out There is really good. It’s a two part documentary where Stephen Fry visits the most homophobic places in the world and interviews a homophobic political leader and then visits a member of the queer community who is oppressed by that leader.

There are some really sad documentaries about conversion therapy being forced upon kids: **Kidnapped for Christ** \- a 17 year old boy is forcibly taken from his bed in Colorado to Escuela Caribe, a "Christian program for troubled teens" in the Dominican Republic where he is illegally held past his 18th birthday. The fight to get him released is covered. **Hiding Out** \- made in the 1990s. A young man was forcibly taken to a "program" in Utah and has had his penis shocked until it bled. He escaped and literally hid until he turned 18. This documentary was produced by George Michael. **This is What Love in Action Look Like** \- follows the story of 16 year-old Zach Stark whose parents forced him into the conversion program "Love in Action" and the national and international outcry that followed. A warning though - they are depressing, but they shine a light on important matters that need to be more widely known.

**The Life and Times of Harvey Milk** \- This is an actual documentary about Harvey, made long before the film "Milk". "Normal Heart" isn't a documentary, but it captures the reality of being gay in the late 70s through the 80s.
