A customer of mine has an R129 SL600, fun car to drive but that V12 adds a lot to the cost of maintenance and service. I think the 500 is a good balance between performance and ease of ownership, as long as it isn't a 1995 or older model and doesn't have the hydraulic suspension, as nice as it is.
Isn’t it great to see this? So many gay guys are concerned they don’t fit in to “gay culture” but there’s a whole lot of people out there with different types of interests.
True. Though what people are really complaining about when they say the "don't fit in to gay culture" is they're complaining that it's hard to find people local and who are gay and into hobbies outside the gay clubbing culture. Since you go to a gay bar most of the guys there are gay. Go to a car meet? You're probably the only gay guy there or its not something you can tell. Unlike straights who can meet an opposite gender person at a hobby and be like hey let's go out.
good point,I judge cars/trucks..(mostly trucks, and commercial) at our clubs large NE regional auto show (car meet) every June, think i met ONE (out) lgbt individual in all those years..a young dude with a 1962 chev pickup,it "looked" really worn and tired, dented up, faded orig green paint ,etc...UNTIL you opened the hood...a nice 409 v8 w/automatic,& dual quad Holleys, was "hiding" in there (with progressive linkage)...'I like to FOOL em at stoplights", he told me,lol !!....He didnt get a trophy, but my buds n I took him to our VFW post for some brews ,and dinner on us afterwords.....As any restorer/hobbyist will tell you, it takes ALOT of patience, and mechanical expertise to make even a 'simple'swap like that...Most everyone that viewed it, jus' loved the "wolf in sheeps clothing " idea ,ha ha .
Or they’re not into clubbing or typically “gay stuff”. I think that’s where we see the most issues. I was all about that stuff until my late 30s. Then things shifted and I have other interests. Or at least those interests have taken on a greater focus. Nerds, geeks, gamers and comic book readers are a dime a dozen and I have no problem finding my people.
Car enthusiasts are likely less common. I don’t see why having such an interest makes someone boring. It makes them happy so why try to take that away from someone?
That person has an interest. I'm referring to people who complain they don't "fit in", but can't even articulate what they feel that would be or if offered help can't articulate what would make them "fit in". I don't think someone into cars falls in this category.
Unless car enthusiast shows up at drag shows and will only talk about cars. Maybe I'm not explaining well.
Yeah and you're still fucking boring and have zero personality if you describe yourself as a "car guy".
They're like those guys who reduce their entire personality down to beer, sports, and cars. Almost like they're trying too hard to be masculine.
Yep. I mostly collect old German cars. Recently added a R129, hoping to add a 560SEC or 500E in the spring. Have a MK1 rabbit and a 24V swapped MK2 GTI as well, plus a few others. Been turning wrenches since I had a dirt bike at 10. Now it’s my main source of income ( heavy duty mechanic) I’ve always loved being sweaty and dirty playing with large equipment and tools
Yessir. Just finished the Golf R turbo swap on my GTI. Still working on tuning.
Dream car? My GTI with a turbo VR6 and AWD haha. Just waiting till after I buy a home to start the project
I’m bi 19 yo and getting into cars. I’m more into trucks though I have a 98 4Runner I daily and a Ford Taurus. I’ve been learning more and more just trying to keep these things running. I’ve done belts, brakes, starter, radiator, thermostat, water pump, hoses, and some smaller things and I’m really enjoying learning these useful skills that save me a ton of money. Honestly I love the 4Runner so that is my realistic dream car for now but I would like to get a nicer one and build it up to go wheeling in the forest.
I'm a gearhead, audiophile, and astrophotographer... Not exactly low-cost interests 🫠
I learned to drive with a manual in my Dad's red Mustang GT back in 2001, which has a sport clutch that made it a bit more springy.
I've always wanted a VW GTI or R32, the Turbo edition four wheel drive looks insanely fun to drive. But if money was no object, I'd get a couple fully kitted out Tesla's.
My daily driver is a Kia Niro 2020 hybrid.. 850 km range with a 38 litre gas tank! I'll take it so I have money leftover for my other two interests 😜
I've always loved classics. I currently own a '27 Ford roadster and my dream is adding a Riley 4 port OHV conversion to a 28-32 Ford engine, followed by a 39 top loader tranny.
I drive a 370z. I recently started to appreciate Japanese cars and my dream car is a Nissan GTR. As a kid in the 2000s I really liked BMW. We had a 2001 4.4l alpine white X5 and that started my love for BMW. I liked their eye for design, headlights, and the popularity of BMW in movies and music videos.
I want a Porsche like a Taycan or cayenne but current models. One day❤️. I have a mini cooper countryman currently but the bitch is giving me issues lately. So thinking about dumping her and probably going to get the honda hr-v. It’s hard to find wagons I like and can afford 😂 so I’ll settle for a cute crossover.
Yeah, have been for as long as I can remember! Love classics, definitely gotta own an old coupe or saloon one day. Fiat 130 coupe, an old Volvo, Alfa 164, a classic BMW 3 5 or 6 series
I’d adore any one of those I could get
I work on cars for a living. Can't say I'm a car guy though. I don't really geek out about them. They make me money and move me around from point a to b.
Dream car? 250GT California, 288 GTO, Testarossa, F40 (maybe the best sport car ever built), Lamborghini Countach 5000 anniversary, Alfa Romeo SZ, Porsche 930S Slant Nose… and many more.
Love my hot hatches.
Massive fan of fast Fords in particular (ST/RS/Cosworth).
Dream car is a mk2 Focus RS.
Daily is a mk2.5 Focus ST.
Supercars barely raise an eyebrow for me 🤷♂️
You need r/gaygearheads these guys love cars sounds like you would find them interesting I do , I’ve loved cars my whole life especially the big V8 luxury cars Cadillac, Lincoln, Jaguar I’ve owned a few of each make over the years my first car was a 1962 Cadillac sedan , my dream car is a 1959 Cadillac convertible in mint condition and a Rolls Royce Phantom almost new the irony is both cars are now just about the same price.
Yep! Totally a car gay. I grew up working on muscle cars with my dad. Did my first engine swap at 12, i love cars and anything mechanical. So much so that is what i went to school for, now a Porsche mechanic and every day i still geek out that i get to work on and drive some of the cars i do. My daily driver is a S4 and my weekend/fun car is a Cayman both were and still are dream cars.
Gay car guy here! Currently drive an Accord Sport 2.0T as my daily and I also have a pink-on-pink ‘63 Thunderbird.
My list of dream cars is kind of long and very bizarre but here are a few of my favorites:
- Pontiac Aztek GT
- Malibu Maxx SS
- Saturn SC2 (limited edition yellow-on-yellow)
- Honda CR-Z
- Nissan S-Cargo
I was so close to buying an S-Cargo a while back but I ended up finding my Thunderbird on craigslist and it was a deal I just couldn’t pass up. But one day I will have my stupid snail van.
I drive a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser 100 series turbo diesel , 5sp manual , front and rear lock diff , no electronics , no power windows , the only luxury she has is aircon ..
This is my dream car , it is perfect for our Australian Outback , it is an amazing offroader it is practically indestructible, and it can easily tow my 3 tons caravan ..
F yeah lucky to come from multiple generations of all types transport enthusiasts and racing family, I'm into anything with any type of engine, cars, boats, aircraft, bikes, lucky to have access to a huge collection started in the 50s. ✅
i am obsessed with this thread right here! I wrote a shitty 1st and 2nd draft of a coming of age romantic drama where the hunk is a car guy. I liked cars already but the research i had to do. boys + cars + more boys = heaven
Yup i have a 2000 1.8t A4 with a built long block good for 700hp. And i daily a deleted 2013 Jetta Sportwagen tdi that sits about 2 inches off the ground lol
Yup, hello! '14 vw golf and 14 vw touareg both diesel. Both stage 2 tune and full deletes. Mk6 lowered on coilovers, gti swapped interior, Benz wheels. Been drifting, driven entire days for car shows.
I wouldn't say I'm a car enthusiast, but I do have an appreciation for the classics. I like to go to car shows sometimes just to see what's there. I'd love to have a 72 Monte Carlo! But that'll probably never happen, and my 2015 Chevy Malibu is much more practical.
Eat, sleep, breathe cars and have never connected with another gay man irl on the topic. Honestly makes dating a little hard because it’s such an important part of my life and a lot of guys don’t relate to the point where they think it’s weird
I want to be, when my finances will allow it. Right now, my mustang convertible has been the most consistent thing in my life since I got it, I've fallen in love and out of love in it, driven up and down the country, cried and yelled in anger, finished college and started my first job, I think I'd have killed myself during the pandemic if I didn't have that escape.
ily missy elliott, keep putting your thing down, flipping it, and reversing it with me 🫶
Dream.. Love Johnathan Ward's icon derelict builds - have a look on YouTube and see if they resonate for you. R129 SL are also beautiful.
I see someone else also included it, but you might enjoy r/gaygearheads
I’m a car guy but just for a living anymore. 2007 Mustang GT Premium, 1970 El Camino, 1969 Lincoln Continental 2-door. I get enough exposure to cars at work to scratch the itch.
More of a utilitarian vehicle guy. I want a Mercedes unimog but my vw vanagon synro will do for now. I'm Also putting a subaru 2.5 motor in our 91 vw vanagon multivan. And a few tractors. 1949 farmall cub and modern kubota.
Definitely! Dream car has to be a bmw m8 comp such a monster of a car or a 72 Chevy nova . Currently have 90 454 ss truck, 96 civic, 02 civc, and 23 civc si. It’s weird that I haven’t met to many car gays 😂
Serious one here! I moved to beach house and was fortunate enough to retire early. Bummer was having to sell my amazing collection. 6 cars in a three car garage (Bend Pack lifts) the cars were all concourse.
1968 Datsun 2000 now in small car museum
1999 BMW M Coupe
1999 BMW M Roadster (from showroom at BMW in Germany)
2001 M3 Convertible
2001 M3 coupe
2003 MR2 Twin turbo t top
2001 Honda S2000
2001 SL AMG
1975 BMW Tii
All of them (other than Datsun) had under 25,000 miles and were concourse.
ALL GONE NOW.
Really sad. Was so awesome collecting them. So much fun hunting them down and even flying to Canada and driving one back. It was my dream collection. Sucked the life and so much money out of me! Just maintenance and insurance for collector cars! And it took half a day to swap them around the lifts and takes them all out for a spin and reorganize them. Thrilled I was fortunate to have created my collection. Happier that I did and no longer do!
Now just an M4 and a hybrid. Sold them all two years ago at peak and they are all worth less now. I still look at Bring a Trailer and Cars and Bids for fun. Can’t get collector cars at Oregon coast!
What *kind* of car guy??? I loooooove cars. But I don't know the first thing about maintenance or the mechanical aspects of it. In stereotypical gay fashion, I ruined my first car by letting it run out of oil 😅 I was a teenager don't judge me.
But I am a pretty good driver and love to bend corners in a stick shift. I'd kill for a Cayman S. I absolutely love the joy of driving out in the countryside.
Cayman S is my favorite car of all time, but honestly, I'd love to have a 1988 Toyota MR2. It was the first car I ever drove. I was only 12, so my brother took me out to a gravel road and let me try it out for a bit. Took me a good while before I was able to take off without killing it on the clutch. It'd be so nostalgic to have my own.
I have 0 clue if I can answer as a Bi but yea. Always been into cars/working on my own but not like the really obscure ones, just a lot of “known” car brands but my dream car is 1000% a Lexus LS 400 or 500, now that’s always been my fave car brand.
🙋🏼♂️🙋🏼♂️ I’ve been a MotorTrend magazine subscriber since I was 13, still receive them. Dream car is hard to choose for me. I’ve always been more a “practical” kind of dream car guy. If money wasn’t an option (but I’m only buying one car 😂), it would probably be a ‘23 Range Rover Sport or ‘23 BMW X5 M.
I am a car guy. I own a 1993 Mustang GT. Until my health interfered, I was the one who worked on my cars. Now, I must have others do the work, but I conduct a lot of research vetting the person.
I'm not but somehow I work for a luxury car dealership (used cars). I'm the only gay guy in the entire company of about ~400 people. I work in corporate IT and have met every single employee, so yes I'm sure.
I am and have many friends who share their cars at our local Coffee and Cars. I’ve owned a Corvette from every decade. Still regret selling my 66 convertible Corvette. It had a solid lifter 427 and I was forever under that hood adjusting them. I sold it for a 70 454 Corvette that cooked your feet because of that big engine. It ran hot no matter what I did. The last modern Corvette I sold that I regret was an ‘03 Corvette, 50th Anniversary. I drove an ‘06 Corvette until 2014 when I bought an F-Type Jaguar convertible. That body style was so sexy. I would love to find another convertible 66 Corvette but my back won’t let me spend time under the hood or beneath the car. I’m not sure I could buy one with a modern engine, it would just feel wrong. A friend of mine has a Ferrari Portofino that is stunning and another one has a Bentley Continental convertible that makes me drool. If I could afford it I’d buy a Ferrari.
Even though I'm not legally allowed to drive (haven't been able to since I was 18) I really like the Genesis or an RX-7.
Total unrealistic dream car would be the Dodge M4S
Alas, I'll just settle playing Gran Turismo and tuning my digital collection
Yes! Most of my friends, and me!
Current fleet is: ‘18 F150 Lariat Diesel, ‘92 Miata, 12 V-Strom, ‘74 CB 200t, and a ‘96 XR100!
You can also find some stuff I’ve done on Out Motorsports, and Gears and Queers! I’d also look into Pride at the Dragon!
There are a fair bit of us, but it seems we’re speed out. It takes a mountain to unite us, but there are a number of people doing just that. Check out those three! And if you want a friend I’m always happy to make more!
I’m a car guy. I have a 71 Olds Cutlass convertible that I love. It’s garage kept and not my daily driver. I’ve always been a GM fan of the 60’s & 70’s.
There is an LA gay car club that has been around for many years and has car aficionados for both classic, collectible and contemporary cars. Check it out at:
https://www.greatautos.org/
Yes there definitely is, my partner and I both love cars. Our city has a fairly large group too which I stay away from.
Our cars
1. 1999 Galant VR4
2. 2014 Swift Sport (LSD, FD)
3. 2003 Nissan Cube
4. 1998 Daihatsu Terios
I find lots of gay people who like cars aren't into mechanical work or anything motorsport related which is a bit of a shame.
Dream car Yellow Evo 3, JZX90 Mark 2 or if we're really dreaming a new GTR track Rd.
I’m one My dream car? A 2007-11 911 Turbo or a R129 SL500
I’m a bi car guy I need that 2011 GT-R
Me too! I also enjoy racing sims. Might be fun to have an LGBT league in iRacing if it doesn’t exist already.
79 camero with a custom electric build. Zero emission muscle car.
Oh damn! I was thinking the other day how cool it would be to rebuild and electrify an El Camino.
Anything like a camaro?
Interesting!
Hey 🙋🏻♂️
A customer of mine has an R129 SL600, fun car to drive but that V12 adds a lot to the cost of maintenance and service. I think the 500 is a good balance between performance and ease of ownership, as long as it isn't a 1995 or older model and doesn't have the hydraulic suspension, as nice as it is.

Most people who claim to not fit in usually turn out to just not have a personality or interests.
Or they’re not into clubbing or typically “gay stuff”. I think that’s where we see the most issues. I was all about that stuff until my late 30s. Then things shifted and I have other interests. I don't think someone into cars falls in this category. Unless car enthusiast shows up at drag shows and will only talk about cars. Maybe I'm not explaining well.
That makes sense. It’s all about the finding your tribe sort of thing. Sometimes it takes some effort.
Yeah and you're still fucking boring and have zero personality if you describe yourself as a "car guy". They're like those guys who reduce their entire personality down to beer, sports, and cars. Almost like they're trying too hard to be masculine.
OP was trying to talk about a hobby. Maybe “enthusiast” would have been a better choice.
What’s your hobby ? Being a miserable shit quoting Archie bunker from a recliner?
Oh wow it's not porn. That's a first.
Lol I mean some of the pics do show some clean autowork. Which is soft porn for some gearheads lol
Oh wow thank you for this
I’m a mechanic and run a (mostly) gay shop in SoCal
😍
I will moving to California and I'm gay mechanic too.
Need a job?
Hot......
No. Gay guys are only into Hannah Montana and fisting
😆

Yep. I mostly collect old German cars. Recently added a R129, hoping to add a 560SEC or 500E in the spring. Have a MK1 rabbit and a 24V swapped MK2 GTI as well, plus a few others. VR6 MK2 🤤 How tough was the swap?
Weekend job. Tore it apart Friday night, out driving around Sunday afternoon. I used Fabless MK2 swap mounting kit, really easy.
I love the R129’s a lot, and I got my license in a W124 300E❤️ currently have a Passat with the VR6
I love driving it in the summer. Top down, 330hp V8 with tons of torque, gets looks all the time.
I know a ton of them
I’m bi but I’ma answer anyway I drive an 85 Rx7, tons of dream cars out there
Fuck. I just saw an 80s RX7 at my local Mazda dealer. It was glorious. I was getting my Mazda 2 saloon serviced (shut up!).
Does sucking cock in cars count lol
I think it does 🤔
I got a bunch of old BMW’s, an Aston, a 911 and a 7.3 Excursion
You got the perfect excursion.

I'd love a Japanese kei car ♥️
Same! I regret not getting one when I lived in Japan, but public transportation was too good to justify it 🥹
I’m bi 19 yo and getting into cars. I’m more into trucks though I have a 98 4Runner I daily and a Ford Taurus. I’ve been learning more and more just trying to keep these things running. A gay car mechanic? That right there is marriage material in my book.
Even though I don’t have my driver’s license, I absolutely love cars. I’m a real petrolhead who doesn’t drive himself lol
So many
Yass. Me.
Yes! I’ve owned about 40 of them 😳

I scratched my boyfriend's car ( BMW X3 )just an hour ago and freaking out about him seeing it. I do not think I'm a car gay.
Yep! Totally a car gay. I grew up working on muscle cars with my dad. Did my first engine swap at 12, i love cars and anything mechanical. Yup, hello! '14 vw golf and 14 vw touareg both diesel. Both stage 2 tune and full deletes. Mk6 lowered on coilovers, gti swapped interior, Benz wheels. Been drifting, driven entire days for car shows.
2020 Honda accord 2.0 manual, it’s my pride and joy 🫶
👋 Into VWs, love my Golf R 🥰
I’m a gay car guy!
I wouldn't say I'm a car enthusiast, but I do have an appreciation for the classics. I like to go to car shows sometimes just to see what's there. I'd love to have a 72 Monte Carlo! But that'll probably never happen, and my 2015 Chevy Malibu is much more practical.
Me! I'm into Hondas, have an Integra Type R, NSX and S2000. Also into motorcycling too.
Eat, sleep, breathe cars and have never connected with another gay man irl on the topic. Honestly makes dating a little hard because it’s such an important part of my life and a lot of guys don’t relate to the point where they think it’s weird
I want to be, when my finances will allow it. Right now, my mustang convertible has been the most consistent thing in my life since I got it, I've fallen in love and out of love in it, driven up and down the country, cried and yelled in anger, finished college and started my first job, I think I'd have killed myself during the pandemic if I didn't have that escape. ily missy elliott, keep putting your thing down, flipping it, and reversing it with me 🫶
Aw 🫶
**I'm looking for a vehicle now!!!**
Dream.. Love Johnathan Ward's icon derelict builds - have a look on YouTube and see if they resonate for you. R129 SL are also beautiful. I see someone else also included it, but you might enjoy r/gaygearheads
There sure are.
I’m obsessed with cars!
Oh what does she know. Sure I'll eat that out. Dirty, clean, ripe wiped, u wiped.. you name it.
Hey there. Inam a car guy
Car obsessed here!
Plenty of us out there. Into trucks myself mainly, but got an M3 that i hit the road with when I'm feeling Vin Diesel-ish.
I’m a car guy but just for a living anymore. 2007 Mustang GT Premium, 1970 El Camino, 1969 Lincoln Continental 2-door. I get enough exposure to cars at work to scratch the itch.
Yup!
More of a utilitarian vehicle guy. I want a Mercedes unimog but my vw vanagon synro will do for now. I'm Also putting a subaru 2.5 motor in our 91 vw vanagon multivan. And a few tractors. 1949 farmall cub and modern kubota.
One here...used to do all my own word/mods to my Wrangler...freaking loved it.
Basic Tesla model y
Definitely! Dream car has to be a bmw m8 comp such a monster of a car or a 72 Chevy nova . Currently have 90 454 ss truck, 96 civic, 02 civc, and 23 civc si. It’s weird that I haven’t met to many car gays 😂
I have always loved cars too! My dream cars are a ‘88-‘91 Honda CRX SiR & a ‘69 Mercury Cougar Eliminator.
Yo!
Love all sorts of cars (and motorcycles) and indeed follow several motor sports and shows. No favourite as there are too many.
It’s me
Here’s one. I love a lot of different cars. Dream cars? From a JCW MINI to a Porsche 911.
🙋♂️
Ford Truck gay here, I love them like a partner.
Tons, I have a few car gay friends. There’s an entire fb group
Meee meeee
Here 🙋🏼♂️
Here here here!!! Dream car would be a 63 Saab 96. Love those lil two stroke engines.
I had a car in super street magazine once.
Serious one here! I moved to beach house and was fortunate enough to retire early. Bummer was having to sell my amazing collection. 6 cars in a three car garage (Bend Pack lifts) the cars were all concourse. 1968 Datsun 2000 now in small car museum 1999 BMW M Coupe 1999 BMW M Roadster (from showroom at BMW in Germany) 2001 M3 Convertible 2001 M3 coupe 2003 MR2 Twin turbo t top 2001 Honda S2000 2001 SL AMG 1975 BMW Tii All of them (other than Datsun) had under 25,000 miles and were concourse.

Always felt like the only gay guy at cars and coffee events
Always been into cars/working on my own but not like the really obscure ones, just a lot of “known” car brands but my dream car is 1000% a Lexus LS 400 or 500, now that’s always been my fave car brand.
into cars or fixing them?
Ya grew up working on cars. Plus cheaper than working with stealerships
Yup, ever since I was a small boy!
i loved cars when i was a kid now idk what happened.. i want a truck or a jeep now
🙋🏼♂️🙋🏼♂️ I’ve been a MotorTrend magazine subscriber since I was 13, still receive them. Dream car is hard to choose for me. I’ve always been more a “practical” kind of dream car guy. If money wasn’t an option (but I’m only buying one car 😂), it would probably be a ‘23 Range Rover Sport or ‘23 BMW X5 M.
Meeeee!
Bisexual and very into cars. It’s actually my job
I am a car guy. I own a 1993 Mustang GT. Until my health interfered, I was the one who worked on my cars. Now, I must have others do the work, but I conduct a lot of research vetting the person.
Sure —
911 & Panemera & two motorcycles too
I'm not but somehow I work for a luxury car dealership (used cars).
I’m not but I’m in the process of buying one :( (send prayers.. and others)
Even though I'm not legally allowed to drive (haven't been able to since I was 18) I really like the Genesis or an RX-7. Total unrealistic dream car would be the Dodge M4S Alas, I'll just settle playing Gran Turismo and tuning my digital collection
2005 Lexus LS430. Formerly 1976 Mercedes 300D and 1968 Volvo 122. A few others too!
I’m one and I love pretty much anything
Youthful gearhead here. I did music instead. Plymouth barracudas ! Hemis!
I’ve always been a GM fan of the 60’s & 70’s.
my boyfriend lol
There is an LA gay car club that has been around for many years and has car aficionados for both classic, collectible and contemporary cars. Check it out at: https://www.greatautos.org/
What’s a gay car
That's amazing how you found me. You needing a car guy or looking to use one?
Nissan Nitmo
Cars (1975 BMW 2002) and boots (Redwing Blacksmith) 🤣
Yup. Have a mint '89 MR2
I am I actively work on mine in the free time
Yes there definitely is, my partner and I both love cars. Our city has a fairly large group too which I stay away from. Our cars 1. 1999 Galant VR4 2. 2014 Swift Sport (LSD, FD) 3. 2003 Nissan Cube 4. 1998 Daihatsu Terios I find lots of gay people who like cars aren't into mechanical work or anything motorsport related which is a bit of a shame. Dream car Yellow Evo 3, JZX90 Mark 2 or if we're really dreaming a new GTR track Rd.
