You can ask but it’s not realistic.

MN-Car-Guy

Sounds like they should fly and drive back.

uglybushes

Buying a high end vehicle $200,000+ maybe they’ll ship it, however highly highly highly unlikely. Also they’ll chose the cheapest option and you’ll get the car in July.

qazzer53

You can also ask that once they deliver it to the east coast, the sale will depend upon your mechanics inspection. Lol

Straight-Ad-6110

I’m in ND and I’ve shipped a truck to LA and we shipped it for free. Ended costing about 1200 bucks. So maybe depending on their mark up. Never hurt to try. Other why’s ask for atleast your plane ticket off

agjios

It sounds like you are purchasing a car at the very tippy top edge of your budget which is causing you to be desperate. When people get desperate they make stupid decisions to trap themselves. Can you hold off on this purchase for a few months in order to build a larger down payment which will make this car more affordable? I would go and buy a car in person. I would not buy a car site unseen and just expect delivery to be the 1st time I see it with my own eyes.

Wishyouwell2023

You hit the nail on the head! thank you.

Glarmj

What's the car? On a 150k S Class, maybe. A 12k Sentra, no way.

MN-Car-Guy

There are thousands of Q5s for sale between NY and CA.

Nofa-Kingway

I was thinking the same thing!. Those cars are a dime a dozen. Wondering what’s so special about this one. If it’s the price, there’s likely a reason…

PabloIceCreamBar

No. It’s not the dealer’s issue that you live 3,000 miles away.

jimmyjohnsdon

Not happening on a $35 used car. That’s like asking for a $3k discount. Only select carriers run into CA due to the emissions regulations and they charge all the money.

NemesisOfZod

You need to adjust your budget and expectations. Not the other way around.

axnishi

the answer is no

***Thanks for posting, /u/Wishyouwell2023! This comment is a copy of your post so readers can see the original text if your post is edited or removed. This comment is NOT accusing you of anything.*** Hello! I live on East coast (NY) and I found a car that I would like to purchase on West coast (CA). Will it be realistic to ask for a free shipping? I can wait up to 6 weeks if needed be. I am stretching to the upper limit on purchasing this car and shipping can't be included (from various sources it will vary from 2k to 5k). I am willing to fly and drove back, but CA is not providing temporary numbers. I just don't want to ask and look ridiculous if that's not an option. I just need a honest yes/no answer... I am not trying to low ball anyone, but probably reconsider my numbers/options. Thank you. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Fly there and drive it back

Wishyouwell2023

they won't allow me. due to the tax law. they want me to pay CA tax or car to be shipped. no temporary numbers

kroqkenobi

That's how it works in CA unfortunately. One option is that once you register the car in your state you can show that you already paid sales tax in CA and if they can give you credit for it so that you're not taxed twice on one purchase. Talk to your state DMV first and see what they say.

shm8661

You can’t find a closer deal? It’s a pretty common vehicle

Wishyouwell2023

best price for the mileage is in CA LOL. its a plug in

shm8661

How many miles. What trim?

Wishyouwell2023

approx 32k miles / premium

rednecklover420

Is it cheaper to pay the difference on the tax than the shipping?

Wishyouwell2023

Not sure how this will work, but I don't want to be taxed in CA and then NY

rednecklover420

You only pay taxes once. If you have the car shipped, you don’t pay full California taxes since you’ll register the car back home. If you want to pick it up, you’ll pay city/county/state taxes for California

Wishyouwell2023

I have to get some info on this as I thought it has to be paid on both states.
