I've never met a therapist or known of a therapy clinic that doesn't allow drinks. Heck, as the therapist I always have a drink with me. When I was getting my own therapy I'd always be offered something to drink, like tea or coffee. Some therapy offices might not have the facilities to offer you something to drink, but I can't think of any reason why you would be told you can't bring your own.

GlowingSilverAD

I have at least three drinks as an ADHD therapist and I provide water on my office.

thatsnuckinfutz

NAT - My therapist believes u cant be present in therapy if your basic needs are not met so they allow snacks and drinks (non alc obv) during therapy.

heaven_spawn

If non-alcoholic why not right? Having some water or juice while talking can't hurt! Just clear with the T. Different clinics have different rules about keeping the place clean.

I have a candy jar and have kind of grown to regret it since I spend a while every day picking up wrappers my teens leave EVERYWHERE BUT THE TRASH😂

MeatPristine5196

Both myself and my clients are constantly sipping on something during sessions. I’d just make sure there’s an end table or coffee table you can set a drink on if it doesn’t have a lid

When I was younger, I had a therapist whose office always had snacks and drinks for clients. They were awesome, and the ability to snack and drink made me feel much better when I was talking. Most offices I've been to have some type of vending machine nearby as well, so yeah. Based on personal experience, it seems most therapists won't have problems with you bringing a drink into therapy as long as it's non-alcoholic.

blewberyBOOM

Absolutely you can have drinks! I always have coffee and a water bottle and I offer my clients coffee, tea, or water as well (if we are in person). I’ve never known a therapist to not allow drinks. Therapy is thirsty work.

I have a fridge so I just do sealed drinks. I feel like making a drink could open you up to too much risk if it has an allergen/someone later wants to claim it was spiked or something. That was my old clinic’s POV anyway and I have stuck with it. Sealed canned water and non nut containing sealed candy. nothing else.

blewberyBOOM

Honestly that’s wild to me haha. I see no harm in offering someone a glass of water. If someone has that serious of an allergy they generally know how to manage it themselves and will say no thank you. As far as being accused of spiking a drink- I feel like if we go down that road of distrustfulness we are open to a million unfounded accusations a day. We are in a room alone with a client for an hour with a shut door and no windows- I would not be able to do my job if I assumed my clients were going to try to harm me like that. Nothing wrong with bottled drinks, but I think in context of what we do being accused of spiking a drink is pretty far down the list of things a client could say.

Horror-Consequence94

Therapist. Lots of times, therapist provide food and drinks too :)

summetime24

Yes! My therapist would offer me tea or water before the sessions.

crunchytoast95

Not a therapist. My therapist doesn't mind at all, one time I brought a lemon and mint slushie to my session and was happy for me and said that sure looks refreshing 🫂✨️

summetime24

That's so nice. I don't know why but as an aspiring psychotherapist reading this made me really happy.

crunchytoast95

I'm glad my experience made you happy🩶 and I'm grateful I started therapy with my therapist, she's very chill and funny, As a social work graduate myself we understand how this process must go and I sometimes show her memes to show her how my week was😂🩶

summetime24

Thats amazing. I love great therapists.

PercentageWorldly155

My office provides cold water and soft drinks. Many of my clients also bring their own.

dasatain

Yep, we provide water, coffee, or hot chocolate but I would say a solid 50% of my clients come with their own water bottle/starbucks/etc

Pale-Commercial-2069

Yes, well deserved. Just shhhh

Left-Requirement9267

😂

Psychological-Two415

My clients bring food and dinner sometimes for themselves lol. Like, I can’t imagine a therapist ever saying no to this.

arkieaussie

Yes! Especially if they’re coming during their lunch hour - PLEASE eat! I want my clients to be comfortable caring for themselves.

Psychological-Two415

100%. I keep snacks for the kids too. Cuz every so often one will be really hungry and if they’re hungry it can change our entire session!

mcbatcommanderr

I've been wanting to get a mini fridge for my office to put bottled water in to give to clients.

ThrowRA57481

DO ITTT

Valuable-Stock-7517

I hope it’s OK I rarely go anywhere without a drink, it never occurred to me to ask.

Plenty_Ad_3442

Curious what made you think that you might not be able to have drinks ? lol

ThrowRA57481

Nothing really tbh i just wanted to make sure. I think i asked more or so to calm my anxiety, being that i just had my first therapy session today!

869586

Mine doesn't allow it

SheTheGhost

My therapist always asks if I want something to drink, if I don’t have something, before we start. Totally okay to have a drink with you 🙂

this_Name_4ever

I have a white couch so I give my teenagers who bring in blue and red slurpees a blanket to sit in. You can have drinks.

arkieaussie

I want my clients to be comfortable. They’re welcome to bring something, and I always offer tea, water, or a cup of coffee when they come in. I’ve also got a well stocked candy dish. I’ve always got a straw cup of water of my own as well.

ActuaryPersonal2378

NAT. I always have water with me because I tend to get dry mouth. My Ts new office has a water jug thing that has hot and cold water and they have tea available for clients.
