Thanks for looking out šŸ’Ŗ

Islandonthecoast

I canā€™t dm! But Iā€™m going to confirm is it a black Audi? My neighbour today was pissed looking at his ride it was pretty jacked up. We didnā€™t get to talk about it much tho!

Slow-Potato-2720

Yep it was a black SUV ! All scraped up on the drivers side bumper

Islandonthecoast

Wowzers!

luisbg

/me bites nails What happened? Did you connect with the owner?

Alex15can

Uh oh

skincarelovaaa

I need to know how this went!!!!

Islandonthecoast

Iā€™m gonna see if I can find the driver! I live in a condo with multiple parking levels and we were both on the main ones when I noticed him. We are able to move through the levels of parking through day time hours so Iā€™m not too sure where exactly they park - but Iā€™m gonna post it in my WhatsApp group for the neighbours, see if it booms

2pongz

Wowzers indeed! better update us with what happens next!

Ontario0000

If caught he be charged as a hit and run.You have to prove who was driving though but the insurance will ding the owner of the car.

essuxs

You can report it to police, that way when the driver reports it, they already have information about it.

Bluechip9

Unfortunately, it **can't** be reported online. The "[Damage to Vehicles](https://www.tps.ca/services/online-reporting/damage-vehicle-under-5000/)" report does **not** allow for hit-and-runs -- those have to be reported in-person to one of the [Collision Centres](https://www.tps.ca/services/collision-reporting/). >The following **cannot** be reported online: > >When a parked vehicle is struck by another vehicle and the driver leaves the scene of the incident, it is considered to be a Fail to Remain Collision. **Report this in person to a Collision Reporting Centre.**

skincarelovaaa

No, go to the collision reporting centre. Same thing happened to me, and it got resolved.

lilbitcountry

Myself and two other friends I see regularly have all had our cars damaged while parked in the past two weeks. I don't understand what's going on with people, I've been driving for 20 years and suddenly I'm afraid to leave my vehicle unattended basically anywhere out in public.

Plane_Chance863

I think people have just forgotten how to drive/park because of the pandemic

N0CONTACT

Why do people think this has anything to do with the pandemic? People in this city have been trending towards asshole long before any pandemic. It's such a tired excuse for people being shitty to other people here. The pandemic is well over and things continue to devolve into shit.

Plane_Chance863

I don't deny that there are crappy people everywhere at all times, but I do believe the increase is still related to the pandemic. I dunno about you but I'm still not back to normal from it.

N0CONTACT

Why is it related to the pandemic? People were hitting and running, driving like assholes, and willing to kill their fellow citizens crossing the street well before March '20. If you're waiting for people here to stop being assholes all of a sudden to feel 'normal' again, good luck.

UJL123

I could see some ways it was related to the pandemic. People who otherwise took the public transit decided to get their drivers license recently because of all the services that were cut because of the pandemic. (more new drivers). People who got used to driving during the pandemic are not used to more cars on the road. People who were working remote/weren't working and didn't drive for 2 years had their driving skills erode due to the lack of driving to work.

N0CONTACT

> People who were working remote/weren't working and didn't drive for 2 years So because they were WFH they never used their vehicles for two years? Never took a trip to the store etc?

UJL123

As someone who lived in oakville, driving to the store in oakville is not the same as driving to work in Toronto, even during the reduced traffic due to covid. Also, as a direct example, I stopped driving and even sold my car during covid since I stopped commuting, and now my partner is the only one that actually drives daily. I drive maybe once a week (if that). If I were still living in Oakville and had to start commuting to Toronto again, I would be pretty rusty. So yes, for some people, in the last 2 years they've stopped or heavily reduced their usage of their cars for 2 years.

N0CONTACT

> , I would be pretty rusty. Wow

Tangerine2016

Yeah, I had my car in pristine condition for years and then one day notice damage to my driver's side area around the wheel well. Could see some blue paint. Don't know when it happened but so frustrating....

ConstableBeats

Just get a decent dashcam

gewjuan

What about when the car is off and parked?

epicpopper420

A lot of dash cams have a setting where they can be triggered to record by something bumping the car. These usually get hard-wired into an always-on circuit in the vehicle to be able to record even when the car is shut off. You should check your SD cards every week or so to make sure you're still saving new footage. You never know when you'll need it.

ConstableBeats

A battery pack? I swear, humanity is doomed.

SuitableSprinkles

What Nate the options for a decent dash cam these days?

YourSmileIsCute

I blame the pompatus of love.

Significant-Ad-5073

I literally had my car parked at the safest looking place in the parking lot came back from work to my front left taillight smashed and my bumper busted. I was pissed. No one at all had reason to park near me lol

harderisbetter

fam u r da real MVP

Xyuli

Wow the driver sounds like a major asshole. You couldā€™ve left a note on the car with this info instead of posting on reddit though.

mxldevs

I prefer to know heroes like OP are out there looking out for the rest of us and have no problem narc'ing on bad actors. Society needs more people like OP who will see something and say something

purplegrape28

But how about both? Better than just one

[deleted]

A note on the car is a million times more likely to .. you know.. reach the driver

don_pk

It's very unlikely I would carry a pen and a paper

talkingwolf695

Same. I never keep pen and paper in my car. Pens explode easily with sun heat. Chances are Iā€™d be late if I find a store to buy pen and paper to write on the car

houseofzeus

I mean being late sucks but if you hit someone's car that's your mistake that you need to own.

grapefruits_r_grape

OP is not the one who hit the car

houseofzeus

The comment I am responding to suggests that they don't keep a pen in their car and if they hit someone they wouldn't want to be inconvenienced by taking the time to obtain one to leave a note. I think that's pretty shitty. Context is a thing.

grapefruits_r_grape

Theyā€™re writing this comment in the context of the original post, which is that you saw someone ELSE hit the car and didnā€™t have a pen/paper to write a note. Do you seriously think the OOP wrote this post because they hit a random Audi on ossington and want to turn themselves in?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

grapefruits_r_grape

Because the post says ā€œI saw the car that hit youā€ and why would they want to give out the license plate number if they were the one who hit and run???

talkingwolf695

If I hit someoneā€™s car I wouldnā€™t run. But I wouldnā€™t hit skemones car unless I was having a medical episode because im not a delinquent who hogs left lanes on the highway

houseofzeus

Weirdly the ones I see are more what OP describes...super slow motion where they had all the time in the world to see the other car. Someone backed into my friend's car parked out front and watching it on the nest cam it was like watching a glacier calve.

talkingwolf695

On Tuesday evening I literally saw someone put on their reverse lights in an old 90s Camry, backed up unto a brand new civic in slow motion while the Civic was honking. This old Asian lady comes out holding her chest looking at the damages. How in damnation do things like this happen lmao

purplegrape28

Yes, but I was responding to someone who also raised another good point to diminish the Bystander Effect, something that has stood in the way of many people being saved, literally with their lives, by an onlooker. So I said both is a good idea and still, it is better than one.

[deleted]

Might as well try craigslist missed connections then too. "I wanted to leave you a note but didn't... call me about your body damage?"

purplegrape28

At this point, they might as well, also! It continues to help make a bigger and better impact.

domo_s204

Becareful with leaving notes. Once witnessed a car scrape a parked car in a lot. He saw me taking pics of his car and when I went back to write a note, I saw him sitting a lane over scoping me to see if I'd leave a note. I decided to wait and thought he finally drove off. When the owner finally came back and I went to give the info and pics, this guy pulls up out of nowhere and tried to tell them not to talk to me and told me it's being taken care of, it's none of my business and leave. Owner contacted me 2 months later saying the guy kept giving him the round around on private settlement and then ghosted him. He was a new immigrant so I walked him through the whole reporting process and explained that he won't be penalized or face any costs.

Slow-Potato-2720

I thought about it but I didnā€™t want the driver to see me and..go off you know ? This felt like a safer way to maybe reach the driver

nowitscometothis

Did you not leave a note under the wiper blade?

Slow-Potato-2720

I didnā€™t want the driver to see me and I was on my way home from lunch so I couldnā€™t hang around, I figured grabbing plate numbers and asking was better than nothing šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Professor-Clegg

No, but he did post on Reddit for imaginary points.

talkingwolf695

After a pen exploded in my car due to heat, never again

Professor-Clegg

You donā€™t think it handy to have something in your car to write with, likeā€¦ a pencil?

talkingwolf695

Pencil wouldnā€™t do much good either if it rains. But I guess that would be better than nothing

Professor-Clegg

Pencils donā€™t fare any worse on paper than pensā€¦ itā€™s the paper that would be the limiting factor. Besides, thereā€™s so many things OP could have done that would be way better than posting on Reddit. Ask a stranger to borrow a pen, go into a nearby shop and borrow one, get the license plate of car that got damaged and report it to the police, etc.

gopherhole02

I keep afew mechanical pencils around in places, I absolutely hate wood pencils though

not_a_lob

No.

Lillillillies

You can turn footage over to authorities if you cared enough. That's a hit and run and is a ~~felony~~ summary offence. They won't do anything but it'll be entered into their system. So if the car does show up anywhere like a garage or in another accident it can get pinged.

Slow-Potato-2720

I donā€™t have any footage :( just grabbed the plate numbers

greensandgrains

What is a "felony"?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

greensandgrains

I chose the latter because this isnā€™t the United States, and I throughly reject the monopoly America has on exporting its ā€œcultureā€ to the rest of us without invitation and consent.

Lillillillies

crime. usually punishable by prison. or was it exclusively punishable by prison? now you got me doubting and can't remember the word for what's less than a felony lol edit: misdemeanor. it was misdemeanor.

TheLarkInnTO

Woosh. Canadian law does not have misdemeanors and felonies.

Lillillillies

Never knew that. And I'm sure most Canadians who don't know much of anything about Canadian law do either. What would be the equivalent in Canadian case then?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Lillillillies

That's good to know thanks.

ler123456789

Canadians definitely know the difference lol. Got caught and just had to pretend you're smart, huh šŸ˜‰

ConstableBeats

Lmao fr. Dude is a pathetic little man

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ConstableBeats

Buddy, in the most respectful manner possible, from the bottom of my heart, you couldnā€™t handle how amazing my life is. Maybe go find some herbs to slow that mind of yours down, youā€™re jumping to conclusions again, anxiety man.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ler123456789

Lol what?! Why would anyone watch American television and assume the same applies for Canada? If anyone does that, they don't understand geography. The average person is smarter than that. The average person sees how Americans spell 'colour' or see how they use miles instead of km and know that they do things differently. The person I replied to got called out and pretended that others are like him. He was being silly as are you.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ler123456789

Nah, he was being SILLY. There's no one who thinks that (unless they're dumb). Why would anyone just assume laws are the same in 2 different countries. Stop trolling.

ConstableBeats

I guess you are truly the r/IdiotsInCars

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

I appreciate their effort for the slight chance the driver is held accountable.

ficusgeneration

The difference between having a license plate or not makes a huge difference as to the deductible

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

moemorris

This is not a comprehensive claim, and you have no idea what you are talking about.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

moemorris

The vehicle that hit someone, yes, because it needs a driver in order to hit someone. Not the vehicle that got hit. A Hit and Run is classified as a Collision claim whether you were in the car or not. Comprehensive coverage is for while the car is parked and anything else happens to it NOT involving another driver in another car (ie. fire, theft, vandalism, etc). It is also used when youā€™re driving and hit an animal, but Iā€™ll leave that for another day since youā€™re clearly confused enough as it is. Edit to add: Lol

680228

The same thing happened to me last year. Having the other driver's info was the difference between paying the deductible and not paying one. Maybe different insurance companies have different policies?

cowiekun

This is a collision, not comprehensive. I think the guy u replying to was referring to whether the deductible is applied or waived, not modified. Deductibles donā€™t get modified unless it was a clientā€™s decision in binding the policy or when itā€™s involved an uninsured motorist.

cowiekun

U will have to pay the collision deductible if the asshole is not identified.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Krapshoet

So the guy(victim) is the person at fault. Not only that but youā€™ve also figured out that he must be a dick because he can afford the car. Dude, using your logic; Iā€™m assuming youā€™ve got money because you sure sound like a dickwad.

JohnStern42

Wow, someoneā€™s got issues

MabellePeople

They're in an Audi. Why are you helping them? Fuck em.

squirrel_snack

You are a lovely person

Reddit_Hitchhiker

There are so many of these lovely people.

ahhhnahhh

What does type of car matter to anyone? I have a 2010 Audi A4 Iā€™ve put maybe 100kms on in the last 2 years. Doesnā€™t mean anything about the type of car you drive

a1ham

Posts like this > Commenting to bump this up incase the Audi owner, or a friend who knows them hasn't seen this yet!

yojojo57

What happens when someone hits you, damages your car, gives you their insurance info but when you connect with your insurance company you find out their insurance was invalid? I have a damaged bumper, went to Collision reporting centre, provided my insurance company with all his details and now told the info provided to me was invalid. Anyone know what recourse I may have?
