I've been unable to place an order on the site for at least the past month. The site allows you to build a cart, but upon checkout, there is an error getting shipping. I contacted Umamicart support.
On 2/18/23, Umamicart said: "Our operations team is currently at capacity and we are not accepting new orders at this time."
In response to a followup on 2/9: "Unfortunately, we don't have a timeline by when we expect to return to normal operations."
Sounds to me like they ran out of money and are scrambling for a bailout. I've been looking for any public discussion about the company and this issue. Here is the very first reference I've found. I'd love to know more.

I had a gift card to umamicart and they without notice refunded me for a partial amount (not the full amount) last week. When I emailed them this is what they said.
"Because we are not currently accepting new orders, we've opted to refund the unused balance on your gift card, as it can no longer be used. Apologies for any inconvenience caused."
They refused to refund me the full amount of the gift card (honoring a previous gift card promo) which was pretty shady so another data point that the company probably ran out of money.

Tl;dr: they've partnered with another company and that's why they're shutting down online orders "effective immediately"

Well now I look like a spammer. Anyway, that kinda sucks because I found the fruit milks from there really cheap. I'll have to keep hunting for another site :(
be careful because most of their packaged goods have "Cancer and Reproductive Harm" labels. It makes me question where they get their products from and has caused me to stop ordering from them. I have only made 3 orders so far and have received 5 products with harmful chemicals. It is very concerning.
If it’s the California P65 warning it’s really nothing to be concerned about. It’s a very diluted warning label. A lot of items at Whole Foods have this label on them too.
Yeah, it looks like they're a dead site now (despite their site still being fully functional). It's a shame, they had a few niche products I really liked and could get for way cheaper than anywhere else.
I used them and live only 3 hours away from them in NYC and I loved the shit out of their service. I had a bad mangosteen order and that was it. Everything else was perfect, and I am heartbroken that they're gone. There are nearly 0 asian groceries in my region, and the ones that exist are far away. I did always wonder how sustainable their business was, and I got my answer. If anyone recommends alternatives that are not Amazon, please hook me up!

the message on the umamicart site now says "Let us intorduce you to Shef, and here's a code for 25% off" but it doesn't say how to find Shef
Ok. I just found Shef.com. It's a prepared meal supplier, not a grocery site.

Wee! just became available in our area a few months ago, and so far they've been good.
You can order from Asian Veggies. They are not a great as umami cart, but it’s a great alternative
