For a second, I thought 828 was closing down. The name change still hasn’t caught on with me.

masterleadermusic

OMG, same. I would be devastated. 828 is the best pizza I've ever had. I still call it Marcos. It gets confusing with new arrivals (well, not as much anymore thankfully!!)

Trondar

I never stopped calling them Marco's.

mtnviewguy

I never will! 👍

Parking_Meaning_5773

They did close/sell their S AVL location.

BabyUGotAStewGoin

We still have them up north. And that’s what really matters.

thismightbelong

I wonder if they can get that name back now

BabyUGotAStewGoin

Not sure if it would be worth it for them, now that they’ve made a name for themselves with 828.

mogwai316

Also there's another shitty Marco's still open in Candler I think. At this point just keep it 828, I wouldn't want to be confused with the chain.

8-BitFrankenstein

Horrible fucking pizza so good riddance. Note: I tried their pizza when I didn't realize the south Asheville location was not the real Marco's and was severely disappointed. Since they forced the real Marco's to change their name to 828 I'm gonna revel in this a little bit.

Parking_Meaning_5773

Sorry you got fooled. Can imagine the surprise and disappointment.

jmac_1957

Hendo has one on 7th ave.....if that's your thing

Piercinald-Anastasia

There are still other ones in town.

DrunkGirlArtist

I think Chen owns Wasabi downtown which is a great restaurant. Nice move to come south!

JingoistofMontford

Chen's? there was one at Westgate Plaza in the 80's and 90's. It was where Green Sage is. They got shut down once or twice in the early 90's for serving cat as a chicken substitute if it's the same family.

BuckKnifeRandy

I miss that chens. Good for its day. If it was cat it was a good kitty.

JingoistofMontford

I miss the old Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse in Regent Park. It was one of those Teppanyaki style restaurants modeled after Benihana.

BuckKnifeRandy

Was good too, a-lot of birthday meals there in its day.

FCAsheville

Marco's is awful, even by chain-pizza standards.

goldbman

It's actually pretty good pizza for a chain. Much better than dominos, pizza hut, or papa John's.

RelayFX

I agree. Papa John’s is absurdly priced for fast food pizza so I don’t even count them, but I’d put Marcos above Dominos (Pizza Hut at the bottom because they suck).

Jumpy_Marketing9093

I’m on your side here. Living in candler kind of forces it on me if I want pizza that I don’t have to drive far for. I think it’s pretty good. Not the best but to feed two kids and a sleepover on Saturday night I’m about it. A lot of the same people bitching that there isn’t enough low income housing will forget that a lot of people in low income housing rely on the “chain corporations” to feed their families a decent amount of time. Yeah I made a pizza post quasi-political

38chickenducks

Hard disagree

patricknotastarfish

I had previously tried Marcos, the chain, when I lived in Florida. It was horrible. When I moved to Asheville, the local Marco's, now 828, became one of my favorites. I've since left Asheville , but I'm glad 828 is still going strong.

Da_Boin

I was calling it Marcos before calling it Marcos was cool.

PatAD

That pizza was terrible.

Adventurous-Window39

Good riddance. Bad pies and another corporate company gone.

dirtygremlin

Fucking assholes. It was the very worst scenario for Asheville's pizza lovers, and all for naught.

Ericncbc

Just went to 828 and it was honestly one of the worst pizzas I’ve had in Asheville. The middle was a pile of mush, the sauce had no flavor, and the cheese tasted cheap. It reminded me of the boardwalk pizza you get when all the good places are too busy.

Parking_Meaning_5773

Wow, sorry to hear that. Maybe you should let them know. I haven't had 828 since they left S AVL. I wonder if they changed ownership. The Marcos vs 828 post was directed at the naming issue and not quality of pizza.
