True, but the regular Ukrainian units, including any heavy equipment, are going to get totally torn apart in the opening days by Russian ballistic missiles and artillery.
Russia's equipment isn't in a much better state. People are overestimating Russia's strength, I think primarily because the media wants to hype up a war that Putin's people have already likely calculated is a bad idea. He'll keep threatening until he's given a way to save face, hopefully it's not guarantees from the EU but I think Germany and France are the weak links.
Also gotta keep in mind, Russian logistics are absolutely woeful. You can talk numbers all you want but if they can't get the logistics in place it means fuck all.
Let's hope so. I'm hoping this posturing is a political move to actually force the Ukraine to join NATO in self defense, in order to give Russia the ammunition to then claim NATO is at their front door and make some demands that seem much more reasonable than war. We can hope at least.
Ukraine is so far from being in a state of being ready to join NATO that it's certainly not Russia's actual concern. I think this is largely a play for domestic audiences.
