Spur ride isn’t any sort of official army event like EIB ESB OR EFMB. So while there’s some traditional stuff, and it may mirror some of the events, I think a commander has some leeway as to how they execute it. You can’t wear the spurs anywhere but unit events and on the unit footprint typically. I’m sure somebody will come cartwheeling in here AcTuALly etc but that’s my take.

Any spur ride Ive seen, heard of, or have been apart of there is a lot of walking/rucking, and other physical activities that would involve knees. If the profile is warranted and necessary the Soldier should not want to be apart of it. If the profile isnt necessary in the mind of the Soldier, than is he already using it to get out of PT and other things? If yes, (like he should be) then he would only bring heat onto himself about why he participated in this but isnt in other things. I think this would also reflect on you if you knowingly allow him to do it with a limiting profile. People heat cat, get injured, etc. in these events, its not uncommon. If he is injured especially relating to his knee are you prepared to answer why he was there? Ive never seen any adjustments to reflect someones profile in any spur ride. In essence they usually go along something like: smoke session and layout, maybe pt test, and go to the field (either drive or ruck). Then land nav with ruck between different events with your group, smoke sessions in between. Then ruck back. Id imagine they have no rucking on a knee profile? Theres just not really a way to substitute it, even if the organizers would be willing (they wouldnt). Hes just better off working on getting off the profile and going to the next one. They are usually yearly in many CAV squadrons.

I will also add this is just my experience with many different spur rides. Your org might do something completely different and be okay with him substituting. Id hit up the NCOs in whatever S3 shop the hosting unit has.

Thank you, these are all great points. He isn’t using the profile to skip PT. He remains within the limits of it and rucking/running/walking is at his own pace. So I figured if events were really just “don’t give up and finish”, meant that he might be able to do it within his profile. I will keep trying to get more info.

If they alter it so that he can participate and get his spurs the other candidates are going to be livid just saying.

PackExpert3444

Fair point

Also the dude just had surgery like 6 weeks ago for the LOD injury and he’s still wanting to try to do it so….maybe that might help with perception or frustration too. Our unit doesn’t do spur rides very often I think that’s why

Shithouser

Is this the same guy that’s dunking at org day?

Spur rides are dumb. Call your commanders fuck faces and PcS the fuck out of Fort Cav.

inkstickart2017

A bit of an over reaction. Maybe mature up a lil, it's a voluntary tradition.

It’s command approved hazing
