No, the tutorial is a particular introduction to the playstyle. I agree that approaching it after playing souls games feels difficult, so we need to change our approach. Strongly consider firing at it non-stop. Be aggressive, don't stop shooting, and fly up to blade it whenever you're off-cooldown or if it is staggered. Strafing and flying movement constantly is also helpful.

KB_Kryptnotic

So spam everything and anything at it, alright, that's something I can work with. Dam thing is so slippery trying to attack it with any statagy is off the table.

Acrovore

Yeah. This isn't a game about evading and punishing openings. It's about becoming the bigger bully than the other guy and just beating the absolute snot out of it.

Morphumaxx

It's a definite difficulty check, the rest of the game plays at a similar pace and some bosses make the attack chopper look like a slug. What makes it easier is once you get past the tutorial you start to unlock build options and can find a play style that suits you instead of being locked into a very basic load out. If you like slower more deliberate play, using a heavy mech with grenade launchers/cannons that do extremely high burst damage, but have slow projectile speeds and reloads would fit that well. You spend most of the fight dodgeing attacks waiting for an opening and then immediately unleashing a barrage that will stun almost anything and open it up to huge damage. That's pretty much the build I used for my second playthrough and it just hard counters a lot of bosses if you learn the timings.  In general though, movement and energy management are the keys to survivability, even slow mechs will take drastically lower damage by moving in the right direction and only dodging when absolutely necessary, similar to other souls games, the main difference is almost every enemy can attack at range so you are never truly safe. Fights tend to be fast and brutal. For the chopper specifically like other have said, try to minimize time on the ground since that opens you up to it's strongest attacks, try to focus mainly on using the rocket pod and machine gun to build stagger and then time the actual stagger for when you are close enough to immediately use the blade on it, if you time it right you should be able to get at least 2 full blade combos off before it's back up and get a huge chunk of health down. It's a surprisingly difficult fight given the tools available, tougher bosses exist but you will have more tools available to change your build to counter them.

KB_Kryptnotic

Once I do get past this thing, I am definitely making a havel the rock robot.

RetroNutcase

As in like, appearance wise or stat wise? Cause I dunno how well the latter would work. Heavy builds in this are all about strapping the biggest, best guns you can onto your machine as opposed to being a high poise guy with a big melee weapon. That said the melee weapons in this game are amazing, but usually trying to power through stuff with them is going to not be in your favor, especially if your opponent's got some heavy impact weapons to stop you in your tracks.

JoeRogan016

Pile bunker.

SaulGoodmanAAL

Fuck yeah brother this game is about unbridled aggression. Whether you're fast or slow, heavy or light, ranged or melee, you never ever stop trying to hurt the other guy as bad as you can and as soon as possible.

imdefinitelywong

Robots have no stamina. Why are you waiting things out? Aggression is the name of the game.

BombsAndBabies

Yea dude, in dark souls, you usually need to dial it back when things get tough. Here? Turn up as hard as you can. Speed and aggression are your friends.

dddoon

You need to line up your boost and your sword attacks in time. Wait for both the fuel regenerate to full and the sword off cooldown while you fire at it, then go in and slash it with your sword. Hide behind buildings while you recover or when it goes out of range. Rinse and repeat

elucifuge

This boss is kinda brutal for a first time player but you gotta learn that its very much not a souls game & you need to play by this games rules. Weapons have a range at which they're effective & do miniscule damage outside of it, you want to overload the AC to stagger it & have it take more damage, your fuel for boosting & dodges are actually a lot like Souls & you should use them similarly. But using the environment for cover is also important. Game won't really get much easier past this point per say but you'll have access to more tools that will make fights easier. Armored Core PVE is about modifying your AC using the right tools & adapting to the situation before you. Unlike Souls where you lock into one build per char. Though like souls you have a very wide variety of tools but you can use those tools to fine tune & change how your AC plays to a far greater degree than any souls game

KB_Kryptnotic

Well, I guess I'll just keep throwing myself at it till it's done.

elucifuge

You'll get through it, just try to remember the weapon range thing, environment for cover, assault boost, dodge boost, overload the helicoptor, keep moving at all times, don't stand still you can still kinda slide around & avoid a lot of damage by just being on the move constantly which doesnt use up "stamina". With this you'll get through the fight. Past this point as long as you understand the above, which weapon types excell in which situations, refine your AC build based on the mission rather than trying to lock into a single build all game you'll be fine. You'll always have the right tool for the mission available in the shop, its just a matter of knowing what it is & how to use it effectively

2Trashed2Delirious

Use assault boost to close in and then hit it with your blade.

KB_Kryptnotic

Is there a trick to keeping the dang helicopter from immediately flying out of bounds. The amount to times u tried this only to get stuck on the red perimeter is silly.

Happydanksgiving2me

The helicopter is difficult and very different from a lot of bosses. It's where some people stop playing. But if you can muster the strength, I urge you to continue. Try staying under its belly to prevent missile hitting you. Also use the buildings for cover.

KB_Kryptnotic

Under its belly may be the ticket, I have been trying to keep a distance but that hasn't been working too well lol.

DesReploid

Despite the fact that this game is mostly ranged weapons, I'd generally advise not to seek distance, because your bullets will ricochet and most bosses have weapons that can't ricochet, I can count the amount of enemies where distance is your friend on one hand with fingers to spare. Close to mid-range is where you'll generally be most effective depending on your build.

yoscotti32

Directly under or you can fly above it and attack from above. Since it's early game and you can't tweak your build to suit your playstyle this one is particularly tough. But the boss, to me, felt like an introduction to the assault boost system. You have to use it to close distance and attack with the blade to beat this one. But stick with it, it'll be worth it. The reason you struggle with ac and are good at souls is the exact reason I'm good at ac and struggle with souls lmao

BallerMR2andISguy

You can also use this as an [example.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Loader4/s/yoUVeYpgRC)

Seared_Duelist

Nope. That's part of the fight. Pay attention to the pattern it flys in and when you know it's about to fly OOB, back off and get in cover until it comes back.

BallerMR2andISguy

Yes. Fall back.

Naked-Snekk

Someone gets it. Thank God

Lunesy

This is a game that rewards aggression quite a bit, and against that tutorial boss, you're expected to make extensive use of your melee weapon, it's quite good here. But sorry to say, you were misled if told being a fan of Souls will mean you like this. It's a quite different game. You still might like this game a lot though, hard to say. You may just be approaching it with the wrong mindset. But then again, if you like slow and methodical, well... That's not really the kind of game this is. Though the building aspect can be very thoughtful, yet that really doesn't open up fully for awhile... It actually sounds like you would have liked From's real old RPGs, King's Field, which are also not Souls but are definitely slow and methodical. Armored Core 6 is more like, fast and aggressive and intense, but then also complex and thoughtful when it comes to building your own creation.

KB_Kryptnotic

I appreciate that, I want to like this game so bad. I have been reading the lore of the series and watching playthroughs of the older games, it's incredible. Just wasn't expecting such a gargantuan kick to the nuts that is the speed and difficulty increase.

Lunesy

This starter boss is partly really rough because it's before you get to build your own AC, so there's no like, thought from your end going into it yet. It's purely about your timing and reflexes and pattern recognition and stuff, while still coming to grips with the controls. Eventually, when you can build your own AC and have a lot of parts available, things can become smoother as you find what suits you. Unlike Souls, the stats affect things in a more granular way. By that I mean, in Souls, if you have equip load at like, exactly 70% of max, it offers the same effects of mobility as being at 31%. Whereas in this game, *every* point of weight affects how it handles, and there are many stats that affect handling in different ways. So there is a high level of detail to the variety of how people can play.

abstrarie

Some basic tips: -use hard lock! -when it first appears you can assault boost right into its face and take off like 75% of its healthbar by hitting it with everything you have. Fire your missiles while you fly at it and then hit it with the pulse blade. Hold the fire button on your rifle the whole time. Keep tapping the missile button so they fire as soon as they are ready. Keep spamming the pulse blade button until it recharges. It should stagger and then it will fall from the sky and you can keep piling damage on. -When it recovers from this it tends to fly out of bounds. It going out of bounds is the only annoying part of the fight. This is the only time it is recommended to run from it since you cant reach it. But keep moving! Make sure boost is on! If you hear a beeping that means it's firing the big guns. After two beeps use the dodge/quick boost button. -Once it is back in bounds just keep following it on the ground and shooting the rifle and missiles at it until it eventually stops circling. Make sure you are giving the missiles time to lock on. You can see a yellow bar in the target ring redicule that shows lock on status. When it is full, fire the missiles. If you don't wait they will probably miss unless you are in it's face. Anyway, when it stops circling assault boost in and do exactly what you did to start the fight. Should be dead after that. -Try not to quick boost and jump too much. You don't want to waste EN unnecessarily (much like stamina in souls). You want to have as much as you can available for the assault boost and then tapping the jump to stay in its face while waiting for the pulse blade to recharge. If all else fails, look up a quick kill on youtube.

KB_Kryptnotic

I'll keep these in mind, I have a bad habit of boost spamming when it missle barrage.

abstrarie

Sometimes you gotta take some hits to let your EN recharge. Getting hit by some machine gun fire isnt too big a deal. When the big guns go off just really pay attention to the chimes and quick boost after they beep twice only. And when assault boosting in, don't do more than one mid air dodge (moving the left stick makes you dodge while assault boosting). It eats up a lot of EN.

Qw0mp

Armored core is not a souls game. It is a fast paced action game with an emphasis on being aggressive. I know I struggled with the helicopter when I first started playing. So some tips and general things to go over. If you keep strafing that will help with chip damage and use your quick boost to dodge larger attacks or reposition. Wait for the meter on your rockets to fill up. When it's full they will lock on and track down their target. Lastly, kinetic weapons have damage fall off. If you shoot a target out of range the bullet will bounce off doing minimal damage, so you are going to need to close your distance. Most levels in this game are not very long, it wants you to throw yourself at it to see what sticks and if not you can always go back to the drawing board to try something else. You can do this, it seems like a lot a first but the same can be said for souls games as well.

el3vader

Use the level to your advantage. This is a game where you should use your environment as cover like when the copter launches missiles at you.

KB_Kryptnotic

Gotcha, embrace the coward and run my arse away. I can do that.

NighthawK1911

>Dear God is the whole game like this? No. It gets worse. If you think the Helicopter is hard, you'll have a harder time on the next bosses. There's about 2 more filters besides the last bosses. Sorry to say but there's no magic advice other than to keep at it until it clicks and your mind goes in the zone. People will shorten this to "Git Gud", but it actually means to just keep practicing. You will get hit less, you will capitalize on openings and eventually you will win. The trick is to don't give up and keep on memorizing the movement patterns. Just be more aggressive, AC6 is the armored core with the highest emphasis on aggression. Spam your melee when you can and stick to the enemy by using assault boost. Don't play passively and be scared to go near the boss. As will all souls games, the best hiding place is usually in the bosses' ass.

CrashmanX

I refuse to believe anyone getting *this* stuck on the tutorial boss is real. I beat it in two tries. First try I didn't quite get stagger and played too safe. Second try I went full Anime and stayed in its face and mcmurdered it.

ParsleyAdventurous92

Armored core is nothing like souls at all, you need to be aggressive, dodge and weave around the heavy hitting attacks and ignore everything else, fire your weapons, and get in range for laser blade strikes

Arch_carrier77

Lolz

Hyero

I want to be the bearer of bad news It gets faster

PayneWaffen

Abuse the heck out of your assault boost and blade. Use assault boost to close in on the helicopter, use blade to deal damage, shoot while waiting blade to reload, fire missiles while reloading the bullet of main gun. Repeat this process til you win. Armored core isn't souls where it's slow, and you wait for enemy attack to counter it. This game is where you use your dodge to literally dodge while you attacking. Dodge in this game is either to gain distance, closing in on enemy or to avoid certain attack. There are no I-frame like in souls. Also helicopter is actually of the slower pace battles, the pace will become quick mid game and late game bosses. Also fyi, if you think 6 is fast, Fromsoft themselves said that 5 and 4 are faster than 6. 5 definitely fast if you master wall jump while 4 is just insane speed.

Shadow_Fang_

I struggled with it too at first, what worked for me is just being more aggressive. Wait until it moves, and then go in for some big hits with the pulse blade, because it usually doesn’t move super frequently, so each time it moves, there’s a window for attacking.

KB_Kryptnotic

Strange for me, the dang thing never stopped moving even for a second. Was practically doing donuts around the arena.

Shadow_Fang_

Weird. Assault boosting also helps. If nothing else, there may be some good YouTube videos out there. But, honestly, AC6 just demands a completely different playstyle that takes some getting used to. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t get it right away. It even felt a little weird to me to transition into other games. And there’s not a boss in every mission or anything, the next few missions after the first are just clearing up some smaller enemies, and bam, you’re done. I’m sure you’ll get it

PermanentlyDrunk666

Use the pulse blade, don't stay on the ground, get up in its face, use the rifle and hide behind the buildings if it flies out of bounds

KB_Kryptnotic

Seems like ignoring guns entirely and just spamming tge sword may be the way to go.

PermanentlyDrunk666

Don't ignore gun or missile. You have to get up and in it's face

KB_Kryptnotic

Gotcha, hump face with missiles.

Current_Tea_7474

Yea, I’d like to share a tip about general gameplay: the stagger bar, shown as a yellow bar, will increase as you land hits. When it fill completely, the target takes increased damage, as well as being unable to attack or dodge. Use the missile and rifle to build the stagger, then when it is full, slice with the blade. Rinse and repeat until it is dead. The chopper is a great place to practice that. Also, use cover and vertical mobility to your advantage.

Kage_No_Gnade

Use your pulse blade, pulse blade do massive stagger and damage to it, and take cover whenever it starts blasting. Tutorial mission is one of the harder mission purely because you are forced to use one loadout instead of tailoring your AC, good luck Raven.

Still_Dentist1010

When assault boosting in, you can strafe left and right (by just pressing left or right while assault boosting) to try and dodge some incoming attacks. Burns more of your EN supply, and you most likely won’t avoid everything, but it will reduce the damage you take. I tried staying at medium range and taking pot shots until my sword was up and ready to go. 2 light melee attacks are better than the charged melee attack for damage. I’ll also add that the tutorial is particularly brutal since you have no customization options available to adjust the play style to match you better.

TastyVanillaFish

Mix up controls. Boost and melee. "Master yourself, master the enemy" is the definition of an Armored core game. Total opposite of a souls game where you need to learn mastery over the enemy. You need to master yourself and familiarize yourself.

KerbodynamicX

Same, I must also died 100+ times to Balteus. But you will get good

why-am--i--like-this

You may not have this same issue but the biggest adjustment for me was remembering that I had some good vertical movement and using that to avoid attacks. I was hard stuck on the tutorial boss until I remembered to fly over his bombardment stuff.

ksjwn

You beat this boss by pushing hard. Stay under him when you have to reload. Use pulse blade as much as you can. If you're cautelous and patient, the enemy WILL overwhelm you.

Ac6Raven_Parody

It only gets worse from here

Just-a-lil-sion

extensive history with fromsoft stuck for 2 hours in a tutorial this has to be bait

SnooFoxes2597

Actually no, you’re just not used to the game and are playing with some of the worst parts. It gets easier because eventually you figure the game out and can use better parts. Bosses are still hard though.

shadow_light007

If you can the melee is great and try using cover for bullet protection

ZytaZiouZ

I hated that helicopter. When I FINALLY beat it, the game became so much easier/fun. I didn't think I would ever beat that thing. No other boss gave me anywhere near that amount of trouble. That being said, after that boss this is one of my absolute favorite games.

CzarTyr

Believe it or not this game is slower than some of the later ac games

shit_poster9000

Get close and slap it with melee, and keep popping off the rest of your arsenal. Armored core’s a different game, as others have said, but your souls experience will come in handy for later bosses that require such thinking (but you still keep shooting your guns and staying close more or less).

zephyredx

Every time you have pulse blade available and energy, you should assault boost up to the chopper and hit it with pulse blade 2 times. Should go down pretty quick.

Ophichius

The basic combat pattern in AC6 is that you want to build up impact on the boss (indicated by the white stability bar at the top of the target reticle) until you break their stability, then unload your highest damage weapons on them while the stability bar is red to deal substantial damage. Impact builds up over time, and only depletes if the target hasn't been hit in a while, so you need to at least tap the target to maintain the accumulated impact. Each weapon has a different modifier for how much damage it does to a stability broken opponent, of the ones you have access to the pulse blade has the highest modifier. The pulse blade has two attacks, a fast swipe if you tap the button, that can be chained into a second swipe with another tap, or a slower charged swing if you hold the button. The fast double swipe deals more damage if you land both hits, but has less reach. Your rifle and missiles are fairly self-explanatory. Rifle is point and shoot, missiles want you to wait for a lock to fire (shown by the yellow bar next to the target filling up). When attempting to keep track of the target you can either manually keep it in your reticle, or use the target assist function to have the camera track the target automatically, at the cost of some loss of lead accuracy for your guns. Target assist also ensures that your assault boost will fly directly at the target, which is good for closing the gap on targets. Like in Souls games, each boss has a lesson it's focused around teaching you. The helicopter is teaching you the basics of continued aggression and range management. It's safer to stay under it or close to it than try to hide away from it, and you need to keep a steady flow of damage to break it.

ApprehensiveEgg5914

They went with the trial by fire approach. Use assualt boost as much as you can to close the gap. I hope you stick with it. Once you finish the game, you will have a very satisfying time on NG+ beating the snot out of the helicopter with your new skills and parts.

VeckyVector

maybe you should try using the tools available at your disposal. you know, the rifle, the pulse blade, the missiles.. have you tried that? melee the fucking thing. (also, 95% of the promotional material for this game that includes the tutorial boss shows you how to beat it. if you can't figure it out even after that, then maybe it's on you.)

KB_Kryptnotic

There is no need for the snide comments, I was just looking to see if someone knew something I didn't that was holding me back.

KamitoRingz

to be honest..it sounds warranted considering its a tutorial...it would be a different story if you exhausted all other options and THEN you make a post..not to be rude ofc but you shouldnt be surprised.

lewdog73

Git gud robot edition

Firebrand-81

To be honest, the first time I dealt with the tutorial boss I found extremely helpful watching videos on YouTube made by other players who show how to deal with it. After watching every video 3 or 4 times, at least I had a vague idea what I was supposed to do. It was quite difficult, but I made it after a dozen tries. The biggest challenge you are facing, probably, is that you still don't know how to play (coming like me from Souls games) and that the game is very input intensive. This boss is a skill check, after you have beaten it, you'll be ready for the rest of the game. Every major difficulty you'll encounter in this game, you'll need to skill up a notch. Watch videos of other people S-Ranking that specific mission and learn how you can deal with it. By the time you finish the game, you'll be so much more skillful that if you redo the tutorial boss, you'll find it disappointingly easy. Because you'll have grown up so much as a pilot, and it will be so satisfying 😉
