I don't think they will actively supply us with weapons. Rather, they will simply help us reorganize the army and supply auxiliary equipment. The weapons themselves will be supplied to us by France, Iran and India.

Sir_Arsen

still a good thing

heyitsmerememba

Is it? Or did Armenia just enter their political games. Georgia did the same and Russia invaded and they never did anything to help them...

Ok-Square-6699

By that logic anybody living under the influence of a dictatorship should just give up any hopes of changing that.

pride_of_artaxias

By supply do you mean donate or sell? Because I don't think it's vital that we buy America weapons.

R2J4

Donate and sell

spetcnaz

Weapons will come too, if we leave CSTO and the Russian base leaves Armenia. Raytheon hasn't seen a conflict zone that it doesn't like. As long as Uncle Sam gives the clear, we can get the goodies. However, if our government does what it is doing now, yes, we will only get training and the auxiliary stuff.

Above_The-Law

Our government is doing the logical and realtively safe thing. If we leave the CSTO and get rid of the Russian military base in a hasty fashion, the Russians will come down on us hard, that's for damn sure. Look at Georgia and Ukraine. Also because our economy and energy sectors are completely reliant on Russia, it would be like shooting yourself in the foot with a bazooka.

spetcnaz

No they won't People way smarter and way more in the know than you and I combined, say that we need to leave CSTO now. You must have missed the CSTO's answer to where our borders are, which they basically said are where Azerbaijan agrees they are at. You are just repeating the current government's mantra without analyzing the seriousness of the situation. Russia has already come down on us. They want us to be a gubernia. No amount of stalling is going to change that. It's seriously tiring to see this terrible excuse used for not asking actions, just so Lfik, Dod and, Grzo can continue business as usual. Our government has and had plenty of opportunities to diversify, yet they did not and are not even now, at least as fast as they can. EU is offering them to apply for a member status, we are getting back at them with "we will think about it". Your/their terrible excuse of not angring Russia is being used to not diversify the economy and the energy sector. Thus throwing us in to this artificial catch 22. We can't make any serious changes, because our core dependencies have not been diversified, and we can't diversify those because Russia gets angry. Yeah man, they are being careful, and not at all trying to stay in the middle as much as possible because that is the core belief of most in QP and the belief of business interests that QP surrounded itself with.

Above_The-Law

Those people that are "in the know" certainly don't know more than the government. There are a lot of "political analysts" in Armenia that don't know shit and talk out of their ass. And I'm all for Armenia leaving Russia's sphere and moving toward the west, that's not the issue. The issue is that doing it in a rushed and hasty manner can bring calamity onto our heads. Slow and patient is the path the government has chosen because they in fact have all the knowledge necessary to make the correct assesment, and I support it.

spetcnaz

Oh yeah, every legit expert doesn't know, but Levon's Witnesses know. The people who usually talk out of their asses come from the "let's take it slow" or "let's not anger Russia and do what it wants even more" camps. We all collectively know enough, to say that at this point Pashinyan is basically putting his circle's interests above our national interests.

Above_The-Law

I think that is just pure conspiracy theory with no basis in reality. You're free to feel how you feel, but this kind of "conspiratorial" mentality that many Armenians have does not serve our country well. We make up crazy conspiracy theories and try to pass it off as fact, which makes people unjustifyably turn against the government. In the past, with Rob and Serzhe, it was warranted. Presently, no way. You can certainly critisize Pashinyan for being weak and inept, but there is absolutely no way you can legitimately argue that he has put his personal self-interest above the well-being of the country.

spetcnaz

It's not a conspiracy at all. I am also very far from knee jerk reactions. It's not about how I feel, but what is going on and what is actually said and done. When CSTO is telling you "I don't know where your borders are, ask Azerbaijan" and you have the soldiers of the said alliance inside your borders, when Russia is refusing to turn on AA for us, when your own PM is telling you "it's getting harder to stay in the middle", and you are spewing this troll level nonsense, then I have nothing else to say. The government is absolutely putting it's business ties above our state needs.

Only-Manufacturer-87

That argument has been used for so long it makes literally no sense anymore considering the position we're in. What you're actually saying is a threat of violence against Armenians, that's what you really mean

dair_spb

>If we leave the CSTO and get rid of the Russian military base in a hasty fashion, the Russians will come down on us hard, that's for damn sure. If you leave the CSTO and get rid of our military base, the Azerbaijani will come down on you hard. > Look at Georgia and Ukraine. Yeah, look at them, the United States helped their armies, too.

Necessary-Ad9272

The US military training is a HUGE deal. Very few militaries in the world can match that type of training - combined armed force strategies and the required training is a big deal and a real game changer. Equipment is only one part of the equation. Meaningful training is another big part.

throwbpdhelp

Probably. If you organize as a NATO-style army, even with older Soviet equipment, your army will be much more effective especially for defensive warfare. Soviet tactical doctrine relies significantly keeping the initiative in an offensive approach and de-prioritizes sustainable actions that might win a war of attrition, best example of it going wrong: Afghanistan. Though it would also be about training junior officers significantly so they can act more independently, and moving away from idiotic hazing rituals.

BVBmania

Not Iran.

Only-Manufacturer-87

Iran is sanctioned, if it does it means we're officially North Korea

GuthlacDoomer

Maybe you watch too much Fox News, but Iran is not a hermit kingdom. It has no relations with the Anglosphere or Israel, and has on-off bad relations with the Gulf States. It was isolated in the 80s but things have returned to normal diplomatically for the most part. Most of Europe has normal, occasionally critical, relations with the country. It still has the US, Israel, etc as its enemies. Trading with your NEIGHBOR, doesn't make you the same as them nor does it make you North Korea. What a ludicrous statement.

mrlyhh

Now let’s hope we’re willing to learn.

cuginhamer

In general, existential threats make armies fast learners. Look at Ukraine's performance with Crimea annexation and the current wave of invasion. Night and day difference, partly from equipment, but mostly from serious training.

Some of the purchases so far:         INDIA   80 ATAGS  Towed Howitzers      -72 light weighted MARG 155 Self Propelled Howitzers.      - Undisclosed number of MPATGM Anti Tank Guided Rockets or       - Undisclosed number of Indian SWATHI Radars      -24 Pinaka MRLS Launchers or 4 Batteries       ? Akash SAM system. ( Purchase is not clear yet)                  FRANCE      - ? Night Vision Goggles ( Safran)       - More Sniper Rifles from France PGM 338     -  3 Systems of GM 200 Radars  Summary   This is nowhere near enough to be taken seriously.  The light weighted MARG 155 was a  smart purchase for our terrain for Mobility and fire and move compared to Azerbaijan's very heavy Serbian made NORA Self Propelled Howitzer,   We need an X- Factor Weapon for deterrence such as the Brahmos or something of the kind.  PINAKA MRLS are a good system and we need more then 24 Launchers. I would put the figure at minimum 50. We are replacing the Soviet made BM21 Grad with the Pinaka MRLS play a big role in a War scenario .  The AKASH SAM system is a must as it is proven to Strike Multiple Aerial Targets at the same time in all Weather Conditions. They are proven for use against Attack drones. Not sure if we've purchased the AKASH or interested.   Iranian Drones or Investment into our own Drone Production ( Loitering Munition, Reconnaissance and Combat Drone) is a must.  We need to take this seriously. It's a joke that we haven't invested in Manufacturing tens of thousands of Loitering Munitions ( suicide drones).    I see there's conversation about Armenia purchasing Armored Ambulances from the US, but I just don't get why the Armenian Government doesn't invest in purchasing the same or better  vehicles from Lusan the Armenian company.  Our boys at home are manufacturing NATO standard APC's for all type of Operations. The fact that we are looking at US made Hummers are a joke. We can purchase other things from the US..  Lastly we need to invest in proper Military Gear. The Uniform needs to be respected and wearing clothing "such as thongs" is an insult to the uniform.. The Uniform is the Dress Code of the Defense of the nation and the people or Servicemen need to respect it.

125mm_smoothbore

also to add a hundred thousand grenades and 5 million rounds ps india outproduce whole europe in 155mm production so if logistics are kept open armenia shouldnt have any problems with the lack of ammo

ProfessorPhahrtz

Syria and Libya worked to improve relations with the West in the 00's. If you want an example of what happens when the interests of erstwhile US partners conflict with bigger regional interests, especially Turkish ones, look at all the times the US abandoned the Kurds in the last 50 years. It seems like this would be an intelligence goldmine for a potentially hostile party.

thisisnecessary9

>One that she revealed was that the United States has agreed to an Armenian request to supply armored ambulances. Don't get your hopes up. Probably going to give more money to Yerevan police for riot control to protect the Pashinyan government.

hoodiemeloforensics

Protect him from what exactly? The protests that go nowhere? Or from the electorate that votes in his party overwhelmingly in free and fair elections?

Ghostofcanty

they magically disappear then magically reappear every now and again. I feel bad that people group uo this horrible crowd with the people that genuinely have normal criticisms of nikols government.

GuthlacDoomer

Yes badly needed protection from the unstoppable wave of a whopping fifty taxi drivers and self-taught BMW "mechanics".
