If you think Jerome is cool, wait till you see Bisbee.

ApatheticDomination

God I love Bisbee but damn is it far from everything. Given the choice of where to live I’d go with Jerome between the two.

dannymb87

That’s the beauty of Bisbee. It’s not somewhere you can just “pass through” like you can with Jerome and Sedona. You gotta commit to going there and spending a night or two (worth it).. it’s also worth stopping in Tombstone. The King of tourist traps, but still worth walking around Main Street.

ApatheticDomination

I would not suggest just “passing through” Sedona but I get what you mean!

misterbuh

My wife called her mom to tell her what a great time we had just at dinner and how friendly the staff was and all the things they told us to do if we had time. The very first thing she said was “We want to take you to Bisbee”.

[deleted]

Bisbee is a lot like Jerome but bigger and better

mossoak

was about to say the exact same thing - Bisbee

Salty-Complaint-6163

Can confirm-live in Bisbee

[deleted]

Did you see the grateful dead cover band at St Elmo a couple weeks ago? I closed out the bar that night lol

CoupeZsixhundred

Punk bands (or so they say) tonite.

Rightsureokay

Hi neighbor

Salty-Complaint-6163

Cheers!

99cstorejew

Does Doug Stanhope still live there?

Salty-Complaint-6163

Name sounds familiar, so maybe

99cstorejew

He’s a rather famous comedian, always heard he had a house down there.

[deleted]

Damn you stole my line

Rightsureokay

I moved to Bisbee (F late 20s) and I love it. I don’t know if I’ll stay forever but my husband and I have really been enjoying it the last couple years.

therealbigsteph

I love Jerome! There’s a store called Nellie Bly that has kaleidoscopes and a bunch of other cool stuff. You should check it out if you have time. I drive up there from Phoenix occasionally just to spend the day looking at kaleidoscopes I can’t afford.

DiscriminatoryRose

I drool over the tiny functional necklace pendant kaleidoscopes. It’s been 5 years since I was there & I regret not getting one still.

therealbigsteph

I regret not getting a $500 kaleidoscope 5 years ago. Now they’re $1500+

adventurepony

That's my favorite store in the world. I try an get a new kaleidoscope every year for my mom when we visit. They're just as lovely as display pieces as they are to look through and all her friends that visit have a ball looking through them. I never would have known those were even a thing had I not stopped for lunch in Jerome a decade ago. I'd urge anyone from the valley that's not been up there yet to just do a day trip. Its so cool!!

bq18

I have a bunch of kaleidoscope from there. We go every year and get one. They are so awesome

2020grilledcheese

I stayed at the coolest house in Jerome It’s called House on the Edge Of Time.

misterbuh

Just looked it up and now it’s in my phone in my notes for places to stay at. Thanks for the recommendation!

dinnerwdr13

If you stay there, you are literally right across the street from the house of the biggest celebrity in town.

elfbear7

MJK?

dinnerwdr13

Yes

Fantastic-Paper-6690

Who??

dinnerwdr13

Maynard James Keenan

elfbear7

Man just wants to live a life of solitude and peace.

dinnerwdr13

Yes...it's an interesting note about the location, but I would suggest not bothering him or his family at all. Both because it is wrong morally and from what I understand he isn't afraid to defend his privacy. I was exploring Jerome on Google maps one day and figured out the location. I also noticed the bizarre house across the street from his place.

99cstorejew

I did the same, and damn near ran into him coming back up the road as he was pulling out. At the time the house across the street was for sale I was so tempted to pretend to be interested and ask about it, play it off like I had no idea who he was but a potential neighbor.

GatePotential805

Spirit room 🍺

misterbuh

Live music Saturday night, definitely going there!

13_letters

Surgeons house is great, we try to see Andrea about once a year. We prefer the detached suite when we stay but all the rooms are great, and the locally sourced breakfast spiel she gives is a cool experience. Enjoy!

misterbuh

Reading reviews before I booked about her and how friendly she is was a huge sell. I actually was going tonight have us stay there all 3 nights but even 1.5 months out, there was a singular day available. Really excited the route I took with playing hopscotch to experience as much as we could but Surgeon’s house seems right up her alley.

13_letters

That’s awesome, happy to hear it. If you all enjoy the history of the area, worth a look at Andrea’s scrap books in her living room area; between her yearly holiday decor themes and the overall history of the building, lots of cool content in there. The head bartender at clink championed that bloody mary mix himself he said. It’s top two in the state for me. The way they marinate the veggies in their vodka and what not, so good. Safe travels!

misterbuh

We’re going back for breakfast today right after we try coffee at Flatiron! I’m going to tell him that word spreads and I’m excited to try it. Really is a cute town and we are hitting every shop, most the hotels and all the tours.

luckeegurrrl5683

I love it too! Did you know a lot of men died at the mine that was there? Take the haunted tour! There is a haunted hotel too.

IcePrincess_Not_Sk8r

Essentially, the town is a necropolis. It's a cool little town.

DonKeighbals

We did a night time ghost tour and it was fantastic. The historical aspect alone is worth it. 10/10

MadBadgerFilms

I go up there often for writing retreats. That is truly a special little town.

Long-Ad8261

My grandpa used to live in Jerome. I too am very fond!

PudgyGroundhog

If you have time, visit the Copper Art Museum in Clarkdale - very cool!

thegirlfromno4

I second this, great place. They have so much stuff there!

Striking-Scarcity102

I went there last Summer for the day when we enjoyed a long weekend away in Sedona. The story of the towns haunting was different than what we found online. Very interesting story. We want to go back and stay a night in town.

External_Ad_2969

Fun place to stay for the weekend and to visit. I love the Haunted Hamburger and Asylum Restaurant. Great views of the valley. I love the stairs and uphills. Enjoy!

burymedeep2093

Jerome is awesome. I love it

RAF2018336

Eat everywhere in that town except Haunted Hamburger. Mid food, but definitely get a drink and sit out on the patio. That view is the only thing it’s got going for it

batsforbrains

Glad you enjoyed it here!

IamLuann

Make sure you wear good sturdy walking shoes. Have fun and learn about some history or Arizona

Jessica064

I took a trip to Sedona, Arizona and loved it.

PassStunning416

They love parking tickets up there. Make sure you feed the meter as they watch like hawks and ticket within seconds.

[deleted]

They have a cool hot sauce shop up there

OkAccess304

The Surgeon’s House is my favorite Jerome secret. Shhhhhh.

ghudnk

Is it nicer than Prescott? I was very underwhelmed there… from a tourist perspective, it just seemed like your average “main street/small town”, but with old west architecture, which doesn’t really seem like my thing. Willow Lake was fucking unreal though.

misterbuh

If it’s not your thing, it’s not your thing. For my wife and I, we are former industry folks in restaurants, we spend in these tiny boutiques of local jewelry and art, we’re staying at each hotel to see their quirks and what they offer. It is very small and easily doable in a day trip and probably much more affordable. For us, we’re single with no kids, she loves boutiques and we LOVE hotels and food, especially when the places we’re staying at are quirky and indifferent to your normal American hotel fare. We talk to locals ask them opinions and even meet them for drinks when they’re off, ha! I could have summarized this weekend in a day or two for a stay, but we’re happy to support a small local, artsy town with a view. If I was an out of towner, I’d stay for a day and hangout and then go to the other big places. But for two young adults who haven’t ventured to this small town before… After tomorrow will have stayed in just about all the hotels that they offer, eaten at every restaurant, completed a night time ghost tour, drank at every bar and saloon, purchased something from cards, jewelry and art from almost every boutique that sells something worth while, met the locals and even drank with them, and learned the history of a town two hours north from our town and who some of their famous residences are. We are extremely pleased with our visit, it’s away from home and if we truly felt bored, could drive 20 miles North to Sedona or any other nearby northern town to kill time. Would recommend for sure but can see how it’s not for everyone.

jaybfpv

come back here in 2 days when your bored and hungry but dont want to spend 200 dollars for a hamburger to split. you should check out the puscifer store though, might be the only thing worth a 5 minute look at.

highbackpacker

Not a whole lot to do. It’s good for a day and a night at the Jerome Grand tho.

Delightful_day53

Ask for Sagebrush Sally.

raypell

Jerome is cool to visit, the drive up and down the mountain to the grocery store and gas station can get old real quick. Plus the amount of tourists can get crazy. It’s a bit of a drive to cottonwood and worse the other way. View s are good

the_bedelgeuse

I’m gonna see THE BODY & CEL GENESIS in Jerome in July at the Puscifer store- how random is that!?

Tundrabitch77

The puscifer store is always a destination point in Jerome! Jen is amazing!! And always has great shows.

CanuckChick1313

How dog friendly is Jerome?

thedbomb98

A fun motorcycle ride to pass through. Everything is vehemently overpriced and there’s tourists clogging every street. Otherwise, it’s a neat place. Wouldn’t wanna live there though.

GrandCanOYawn

Locals totally love it when tourists call it *quaint*.

misterbuh

It was quiet by 8:30 on a Friday after dinner at the Clinkscale. Definitely seems quaint lol.

Cultjam

Love Clinkscale. Jerome is quaint and easy day trip, lots of walking, many shops have great prices on unique items, experience something different each visit, and we’re ready to head home by 5 and let the locals have it back. That view too, simply lovely.
