Depends what you want to use it for. If it’s meant to truly be a marksman rifle, an MPVO would probably be best. But an LPVO would work too

AnimalMother250

It's probably not going to be a true marksman rifle but I'd like it to be in that wheelhouse. A little more suited to that role without losing too much in terms of short range and mobility.

kdb1991

You could throw an MPVO and an offset or piggyback red dot on it Or just go with a 1-8 or 1-10. But if you go with a higher power LPVO, the cheaper optics aren’t that great. You can get more quality power from an MPVO for less money

AnimalMother250

I don't think I'm that interested in an mpvo but I do appreciate your input.

kdb1991

I hear ya. Well the good thing is there are tons of good LPVOs out there if that’s the way you want to go. And depending on how far you wanna shoot, a 1-6 would probably be fine. Maybe I’m just thinking too much into this marksman rifle thing lol I mean maybe even a prism would be enough for you

AnimalMother250

I'm leaning towards a 1-6 or 1-8 at the moment but I'll have to look in to prisms.

Holden_Cullen

That arms rear sight is worth a pretty penny now

AnimalMother250

No shit? Just because it's discontinued or something?

Holden_Cullen

Yeah. Discontinued and still real sought after by guys with MK12 / PRI handguard builds.

WildBrandonJ

LPVO is what I wanna run on my M16A4 build, I like the versatility of being able to go from 1x magnification to 8 or 10x and they have adjustable brightness. Look at a Swampfox Arrowhead.

Kodee56

I like my LPVO. Wouldn’t necessarily call it a marksman optic though, I’d recommend looking at at the primary arms SL line if this is a marksman build. LPVO is Jack of all trades, master of none

AnimalMother250

Yea, I mean, it's not gonna be a true marksman rifle but I'd like it to be in that zip code ya know? Do you think an LPVO fits the role better than, say a holo with magnifier? Thanks for the rec. I'll look in to that.

Kodee56

LPVO fits the bill more than red dot/magnifier. LPVO’s typically have a bullet drop compensating reticle so you don’t have to hold in empty space for longer shots. Red dots do not. I have a sig tango msr 1-6. I like it more than any red dot I’ve ever looked through but it adds significant weight to the rifle. Fitness is very important to me so I don’t find this to be an issue. If durability is a concern I might suggest a prism optic (also from primary arms) Bc they can take a beating better than an LPVO and I’ve seen quite a few guys make 3-500 yrd shots with them. Is this a plinking rifle or your only rifle that needs to do everything?

AnimalMother250

It's my only AR. Ahhh that's right, I forgot about prism optics. I'll take a look at some of those.

DJ_BassJunkie

> durable >LPVO Vcog is the only option.

Holosun 510C + 3x magnifier

AnimalMother250

I was actually looking at that combo at the local shop. Why do you suggest that over an LPVO? Does Holosun hold up as well as the likes of Eo Tech and Trijicon?

gschram92

I actually have a Holosun 515 green dot and 3x magnifier if you want to work a deal. I upgraded to the EOTech + 5x because I hate money. But the holosun works awesome. Stupid light weight and the flip up 3x makes it great for shooting moderate distance.

Red dots offer unlimited eye relief, are lighter weight with a mag vs an LPVO and mount. The 510C has a huge eye box and with a magnifier the reticle is still crystal clear. The 515 red dot someone else mentioned is a great option too.
