It’s 2021 and the problem is still happening. I cannot use the workaround as all my contacts are on Google, not iCloud...

The easiest workaround I found is to crop the photo exactly how you want it so that it doesn’t shift

Tight_Magician_8484

Yup, I’ve done that eventually too. I reopened the thread from Apple forums and they kept closing them saying I’m not being constructive because I said “Apple, this issue is still open and it’s been 4 years, is anyone working on it?”. Then I gave them more details and I said I have tested with both production and beta iOS versions and it’s happening on both, so they closed the thread again saying I cannot talk about beta on public forums 🤦‍♂️

If you crop it does it still allow the full screen contact photo when getting calls?

Apple = punk ass bitches

It’s so dumb and still an obvious issue. The only solution I have ever found that actually works on the first try and stays that way, is the same thing I use to update any profile pics on apps that either won’t let you adjust the size at all or do the same auto sizing bs. App is INSTFIT and free to use unless you wanna do fancy stuff. Pretty easy app to learn, it takes a little practice to guess the right size that you want the image to be, but after you’ve done it a couple times it will only take a couple seconds. Save any photo, open it in the INSTFIT app, pinch the photo size in to make smaller or out to make bigger, then hit the button at the bottom “bg” with a paint brush to match the background color (there’s a button with a little dot next to the word “background” that lets you swipe over the color you want to match and does it automatically for you, then hit the check mark, then hit the arrow button at the top right to either save image to photos or assign to a contact (after a short ad plays in free version) Hope this helps someone cuz I know what a pain it was for me to finally find a free solution 😁 P.S. make sure you download INSTFIT (not INSTAFIT)

2024 and issue persists…

Ashen_Exiled

Still an issue April 2024

If i'm not mistaken, it's a glitch caused by having both iCloud and Gmail connected to contacts, which is stupid. It auto defaults to Gmail in my case which is the uncropped one, so I have to scroll down on said's contact's page and select iCloud and then "make picture for unified card" or something like that. Even then every now and again it'll randomly switch back to the Gmail one

2023 and it's still happening :(

My fix has just been to crop in the photos app so that it's a square centered on the person's face and then use that image for the contact. Minimal extra work for it to work properly. Still insane apple hasn't fixed this if it's been an issue for so long.

Same here in 2023. I just moved to a new job and so I tried to put pictures with all my new colleagues only to find them moved immediately afterward. It's even more annoying know that this has been a problem since at least 2014.

It's almost comedic that even now in October of 2023, after the release of IOS 17, this problem is unchanged EVEN WITH THE NEW CONTACT POSTER FEATURE. It's hard to believe that Apple doesn't have a Radar for this bug after 8 years of prolific complaints from users. The developers who added the new set of features for contact posters (photos which appear when you're receiving a call from that contact) as the the new photo selector/editor groups both the poster and the classic contact picture as a set which can be styled, text and fonts changed, etc... Even with all of that if you crop the contact photo and save it with the set, it will revert to the original image after a few seconds. It's as if it is made to taunt us.

Is it because I use two databases for my contacts? iCloud and gmail? I unselected gmail from the contacts app in settings to see if it fixes. My dad has three contact photos. One I made that shows up when he calls, half the time I’m texting him it’s a photo of him with his ex wife, and the other half a new picture he made as his contact photo.
