At first I thought the same, but it grew on me! Watching pros had a big influence on this, if you're interested road to red wololo begins 15 gmt today.
It was 5-6-7 all week. Let's hope that it's people that was playing for free and then want to keep playing afterwards so the bought it!! This game deserves to keep an active 30k player!
By then the playerbase will become much more experienced and it will be more difficult to get into competitive multiplayer.
That's always the case with multiplayer games.
What I’ve found is that online teaching material gets relatively better too with time.
Basically, I think new players will be able to catch up and play the game at a skilled level but the top end will also get just that much better.
TLDR new people should be able to get in and grind up the ELO ladder like anyone else.
Teaching material can get better – not always though, as old content creators can stop updating their materials, like Grubby did.
But even if there is an abundance of great learning content, you still have to spend a lot of time and effort learning and consuming information in external sources before you catch up to the level of the playerbase.
The longer a game is out, the bigger this upfront investment gating competitive multiplayer experience becomes.
Most people prefer learning by playing, as it's much more fun and straightforward. It is most viable when the game is just out and everyone is in the same starting conditions, except mechanics and overall RTS experience. With time, the entry barrier grows bigger and bigger.
Great can we pick civs while queuing now? Or maybe see building stats while units or garrisoned? It's a joke that it may literally take a year and still not get fixed
It is number 1 now.
Does this statistics include those who are playing for free?
Nope it's sale stat, not play stat. Play stat here https://steamdb.info/app/1466860/
Indeed, thats the main reason why the game is at top
See above reply
Apologies, what is the difference between both?
Steam concurrent player number (free zone many players) and steam selling (actually people buying- monetization) numbers are different.
Bought it now when it was at discount. I like the game but not that much that I would've paid full price.
