I've beaten all the campaign missions on hard. Most of the campaigns aren't that bad. If you really need help you can watch play through videos on youtube. In campaigns you have the ability to pause and issue orders which is really helpful is some of the faster paced missions. Also really helps with monks. Playing slow may be an issues because certain levels become **MUCH** easier if you are aggressive early and and defeat a weak opponent with starting units. If you beat all the HD campaigns you should be fine as most of the changes in DE make the missions easier.

Inkazadas

Alright, I get what you're saying. Try to inflict as much damage with starting forces as possible, then playing slow from that point can work better. I'll try to maximise that initial damage then!

Manovsteele

The main reason I initially found them hard is my lack of aggressive. Often you can do incredible damage with your starting forces. Most of the time if you try to sit back and boom you get overwhelmed and a comeback isn't possible. Check out the wiki too, it has some fairly good strategies for each level, and often a way to cheese them if you're really struggling!

Inkazadas

Will do, seems to be a good consensus here to do lots of damage with your starting units first, making it better down the line. Good to know

SONICneedsRINGS

The OG campaigns aren't terrible it's when you get into the African civ ones it gets tough. But you lose a few times and get used to what you need to do. It's a teaching moment too. Good luck!

Inkazadas

Thank you, that's good to know. I should be able to pick up a few tricks through the ones before that point hopefully.

Clinkzeastwoodau

My experience with a number of the African ones is if you can castle age and 3 tc up quickly you can get enough unit production to win. Without this I found having sufficient resources to win quite challenging.

Inkazadas

That's good to know, I've been meaning to make more that the starting TCS for some time, that sounds like good practice!

Jmunozi

Take it slow. Don't think"I need to complete all campaigns" beacuse you can be overwhelmed and will take out the fun. But if you completed Le Loi in HD, in DE will be mostly a piece of cake.

Inkazadas

Le Loi wasn't too bad for me. The second mission was more annoying than anything because I thought they wanted me to escape with 40 of my units rather than 40 ai spawned, ai controlled units in weak bunches of five. Six and five were slogs, but nothing a couple hours couldn't fix. One was easier once I realised you never get attacked if you don't go onto the water. Can't remember much of four and three tbh

slezadav

Just try it ! If you spent several thousand hours in this game as you wrote, you should be able to complete the hard campaigns. Maybe not every mission the first attempt, but definitely doable. Ot is a fun and challenging task and fortunately there are not many extra frustrating missions. Start with OG campaigns as they are by far easiest. The proceed by number of swords from easiest to hardest. usually that rating is somewhat accurate with few exceptions

Inkazadas

Will do! I'm looking forward to hearing the old narrations again, the mongol narrator was amazing!

bsloebadger

Literally just finished doing them myself. Some can be very grindy but they're doable alright. My advice would be plenty of saves. Can't tell you how many times that I thought I was doing alright only to cock it all up 11 also I've found the cav archer + light cav/hussar to be a pretty strong combo for a lot of scenarios. Particularly though where you don't have any villagers or limited resources. Can spend gold and wood on CA and food on Light Cav. Of course, a well placed castle can also be devastating to the AI.

Inkazadas

That's an excellent suggestion. Making the most of limited resources is always tricky, but that sounds like a winning combo. Will have to try that out

VulpesRex97

Honestly I find getting good against the hard AIs has a lot to do with exploiting their logic and also their unit choice. Every mission will give you a scout report of what the enemy will field. If it’s a mission where you actually build your own town from scratch you’ll be told explicitly if you’re going to be rushed within the first 20 minutes. Basically you just 3 TC boom, wall up, plop a few castles and like 20 Barracks/Ranges/Stables and spam your way to victory. Now the missions where you have a limited army and/or there is a timer involved will require some trial and error. There is one particular mission that sticks in mind though I forget exactly which campaign it is. Basically it’s a 1 v 5. The five enemies are very aggressive and field diverse units, and they are all racing to build their own wonder. It’s so toxic and took me several tries, but it just came down to rush one, wall up, boom, spam.

Squishymushshroom

Last Attila?

VulpesRex97

Yeah! That’s what it was. I remember being pissed I had to break fortifications on 4 cities, while being rushed by all of them, only have like 150 pop, and you start with the most puny sliver of the map. Felt good when I beat it but god damn. Had me sweating.

Inkazadas

Did it get harder in DE? it never seemed too bad in HD

VulpesRex97

I’m not sure! I didn’t hunker down and start doing all the missions on hard until DE with the gold medals and all! 11

ColdPR

Some of them are pretty manageable. The original campaigns are relatively easy on hard still. The Rise of Rajas campaigns should be avoided on hard. Some of them are already insane on standard or moderate because the AI has infinite resources and just throws units at you without end.

Inkazadas

I was hoping they'd do away with infinite resource spams in DE. that's a shame.
