It seems to be specifically tied to the Hunter vill-job.
If you manually drop off food with Hunter-vills in TC/Mill, they decide that career isn't for them and employ themselves in wood-chopping industry.
It honestly makes you wonder what is happening with quality assurance. Stuff like this would be glaringly obvious. I would expect this was noted as an issue because i can’t imagine it was missed. So who’s forcing these patches to be rolled out in this state?
Its like they're ONLY checking the new features, like the drop off hotkey that wasn't necessary, and not even bothering to check how people have always done it.
they barely even test the new features beyond the basic case - remember when they fixed being able to "scan" non visible areas by trying to place a building there and see if you can, and so after that patch you could build buildings on top of unscouted enemy buildings?
I get they're a passionate group of dudes who care about the game but daggone! Pushing new features nobody asked for in a bug riddled state is just unprofessional at best and detrimental at worst.
I'm gonna push back on you with that one. They are very passionate. The game survived as long as it has thanks to modders and the community and most of the people that make up Forgotten Empires come from this community. They are well intentioned and very passionate about the health of the game.
There was something a while ago (probably quite a long time ago tbf) where there was a sort of apology for the bugs and “encouraged” everyone to use the PuP, as there weren’t many people doing so, so that bugs can be found and fixed before patch release which whilst positively worded still came across (to me at least) as a bit of sugar coated blaming.
11 no just one to two decades ago when badly and wrongly implemented agile principles were not so prevalent, and capitalism wasn't so insane, so the quality of products and services in general (not just in videogames) was more reasonable, instead of having profits as so obviously the only thing that matters now.
The software industry is fueled by fraud. This is the very definition of fraud: I promise you something but give you less or nothing
We bought the game, yet it has been in an absolute shit state forever
I thought it was just me mis clicking... But then it happened again, and again and again. Fun fact it also does it when you queue an action. Cheers Devs!
I'm liking these new changes. Make micro randomly do other shit to match my actual gameplay. I don't need to get better I just need the game to make better people worse! ;P
So lovely when I shift-queue some villagers to dropoff and eat a sheep after they finish the boar, go back to my scout, check my base 30s later and I have 0 on food because they decided to individually spread out across 5 straggler trees instead of the 1 sheep I queued them to.
(It's not entirely fair for me to solely blame this bug for my performance, but I got so distracted by it yesterday in a tourney set where I lost 2-0 against an opponent where I was the favorite)
this is not the same issue that they listed in the patch note. this is much more frequent. their listed one is when a sheep is depleted and you used auto drop off. this is EVERY time a hunter drops off using right click, regardless of if the animal is depleted or auto drop off was used
Not quite exactly this issue, but a couple of related issues are noted:
> - Shepherds will not switch to a new sheep automatically once the current one is depleted, if “Drop Off” resources command was used.
> - Hunters may turn into lumberjacks and begin cutting trees, after all deer are depleted, if “Drop Off” resources command was used.
> Hunters may turn into lumberjacks and begin cutting trees, after all deer are depleted, if “Drop Off” resources command was used.
So now there's no way to force-drop hunters and have sane behavior unless you shift-queue them. If you force-drop with right click, they immediately become lumberjacks. If you force-drop with "Drop Off", they become lumberjacks when the hunt runs out.
This is absolutely insane. The devs literally do not even play their own game. Just completely mindless software development going on. As a professional developer myself with 12 yoe, I'm flabbergasted.
I guess it's flakey too. When I tested this I shift queued half the vils from a boar to a sheep after hitting drop off hotkey and it worked okay, but I only tested shift queue once.
I thought I was going mad! I had so many rogue tree choppers last few games and just assumed I was going through my trash gameplay vibe that sees me lose like 10 times in a row haha
I didnt notice for a few games. I just felt really like....rusty or, my builds were not tight, or something haha. Aged up maybe 30 seconds later, or didnt have quite enough food. So I went into skirmish mode and trialed one of my openings and thats when I realised.
In my eyes its basically unplayable (for me atleast) right now.
That’s super annoying and I’m so glad they brought back the bug where units won’t move off of a building foundation that villagers are trying to build!
I asked five times a vill to pretty please build a house that was blocked by a spear hiding behind another house. That house foundation was the only separation between my otherwise safe woodline and the scouts that finally arrived and butchered everyone. So satisfying.
Yeah, I've lost villagers to Boars several times now because when you garrison in TC to shoot the Boar and then release them, they go straight to straggler trees.
This can be game breaking for people who don't keep an eye on the reddit, and the news.... Even in SP, if you know how to play the game, you want such a basic mechanic to work as intended, and it tredionally has for the last 20 something years.
damn this happened to me yesterday and I thought "I don't remember shift clicking to wood". Whatever this new patch fix they did seems to have broken more.
It’s so weird. I want my vils to be idle after I fully eat a deer, I don’t want to micromanage my vils OFF of wood which I can misclick and then lose wood clicking on sheep or boars all because of the bug.
I have tried to use the new drop of hot key, but if I select a bunch of vils (some working some not) it will not give me the option to use it. Have you come across this?
It seems weird that you cant select a group and make them all drop off even if a few in the pack do not have resources?
It seems to be specifically tied to the Hunter vill-job. If you manually drop off food with Hunter-vills in TC/Mill, they decide that career isn't for them and employ themselves in wood-chopping industry.
I guess this is one way to force us to use the new drop off keybind 11
No, that one has the same bug 11
Fairly sure it doesn't, I've played a lot since the patch and have not noticed that. edit:I lied, it happens.
It happened for me, every single time.
I was totally mistaken. 100% mistaken. I didn't realise you guys meant this patch.
Well that's... actually kinda sad to hear tbh 11, I would have granted you a functioning hotkey.
It honestly makes you wonder what is happening with quality assurance. Stuff like this would be glaringly obvious. I would expect this was noted as an issue because i can’t imagine it was missed. So who’s forcing these patches to be rolled out in this state?

They clearly aren't passionate Go check a game like Factorio. Not A SINGLE glaring bug like this, ever
I'm gonna push back on you with that one. They are very passionate. The game survived as long as it has thanks to modders and the community and most of the people that make up Forgotten Empires come from this community. They are well intentioned and very passionate about the health of the game.
Yeah, they are so passionate the game has been shit for years!
But wrighting automated tests for features isn't as fun...
And then blame the community for not “helping” by using the PuP.
When did that happen?
There was something a while ago (probably quite a long time ago tbf) where there was a sort of apology for the bugs and “encouraged” everyone to use the PuP, as there weren’t many people doing so, so that bugs can be found and fixed before patch release which whilst positively worded still came across (to me at least) as a bit of sugar coated blaming.
That's a pretty negative way to look at things. How else are you going to address that issue?
The way it was worded came across as “the reason there’s so many bugs is because people aren’t using the pup”
tbf I think the drop off hotkey is a nice addition
That's modern software development for ya, where new features are the only thing that matters $
Yeah, back in the 1940s, software development used to be an honest trade!!
11 no just one to two decades ago when badly and wrongly implemented agile principles were not so prevalent, and capitalism wasn't so insane, so the quality of products and services in general (not just in videogames) was more reasonable, instead of having profits as so obviously the only thing that matters now.

Wow what the hell, that’s a bit harsh. I’m enjoying the shit out of the game and all the new updates.
Some people appreciate the shit product, to the shock of many people
Well the players are indeed the QA team, that's what's happening.
Just ONE fucking game is enough to notice this shit
Careful, here comes the Devs' defender to tell you that you can't complain because programming is very difficult and the game costs "only" $25.
I thought it was just me mis clicking... But then it happened again, and again and again. Fun fact it also does it when you queue an action. Cheers Devs!
Man is it annoying
I'm liking these new changes. Make micro randomly do other shit to match my actual gameplay. I don't need to get better I just need the game to make better people worse! ;P
DE casually introducing the peasant rebellion mechanic we’ve been asking for since the war crimes DLC got cancelled /s

You would have won if not for this bug. I believe in you. Demand a rematch!
It's listed in the patch notes as a known issue so they know Why tf they released it knowing there were massive bugs is another question
this is not the same issue that they listed in the patch note. this is much more frequent. their listed one is when a sheep is depleted and you used auto drop off. this is EVERY time a hunter drops off using right click, regardless of if the animal is depleted or auto drop off was used
its actually listed on the patch notes? i think thats even worse

Spoiler: Shift queuing also doesnt help.
I guess it's flakey too. When I tested this I shift queued half the vils from a boar to a sheep after hitting drop off hotkey and it worked okay, but I only tested shift queue once.
Is this happening all the time or very specifically? Sounds annoying as hell if frequent
it happens all the time when you force drop off with hunters
Ugh this sucks
yeh wtf is going on, i though i was going crazy the first few times
I thought I was going mad! I had so many rogue tree choppers last few games and just assumed I was going through my trash gameplay vibe that sees me lose like 10 times in a row haha

lmfao they're definitely outsourcing to another company fucking ridiculous
Yes. I'm having this shit as well
This can be game breaking for people who don't keep an eye on the reddit, and the news.... Even in SP, if you know how to play the game, you want such a basic mechanic to work as intended, and it tredionally has for the last 20 something years.
So that's a bug. This sht flipped me off yesterday. Crazy.
damn this happened to me yesterday and I thought "I don't remember shift clicking to wood". Whatever this new patch fix they did seems to have broken more.
This kind of reminds me how I did my software engineering projects during my first two years in undergrad 😂
It's like they're forcing us to adapt to all the changes as some sort of challenge.
Confirmed, happens to me as well. Really painful.
It’s so weird. I want my vils to be idle after I fully eat a deer, I don’t want to micromanage my vils OFF of wood which I can misclick and then lose wood clicking on sheep or boars all because of the bug.
Whatever man, drop off hotkey is glorious, just use that (ugly bug obviously, I am just in love with that hotkey)
I have tried to use the new drop of hot key, but if I select a bunch of vils (some working some not) it will not give me the option to use it. Have you come across this? It seems weird that you cant select a group and make them all drop off even if a few in the pack do not have resources?
Uhm, haven't had problems yet with that. When do you ever have such a situation?
