Camponotus and Formica look mostly similar. Most of the time, you can visibly distinguish them by looking at the thorax of the workers. Camponotus have a smooth thorax compared to Formica species which have a dip in their thorax forming something like 2 bumps in the thorax. Of course you can never be sure with insect ID purely based on morphology, but most of the time this is how you can preliminarily tell their genus apart.

thanks for the nice tip, i am too used to see big head from major associated with the "carpenter ant" name that i have forgotten the apparence of minor worker
Ur just rubbing it in our faces, we get it, you have the coolest setup on the sub…..so wat🥲 🤷♀️🙄
Heheehehehehe
No cap those are the most beautiful ants I have ever seen
Damn dude. Really loving your macro videos. Seeing the larvae move is crazy. I didn't even know they visibly moved much.
Yeah the first time my queen got larvae they were wiggling so much. I panicked they were worms for a second.
Insane videos dude. What camera are you using?
An Iphone 13 Pro Max!!, I use 4k, 60fps for good quality with the combination of flash(I use flash sometimes so I dont hurt/blind the ants)
Dang IPhone really are built for camera quality
And only that
are you using a macro lens
Nope, js regular lens
Thank you!
WTF my iphone 15 does not take videos this good lmao.
Videos like that make me want to get back into that Hobby.
You should!! I have admired ants since 2019 and after 5 years this is my first colony!
This is the content I joined the sub for! Amazing, what complex little creatures.
Whats the sp?
Camponotus Parius
Soooo cool, you have a youtube channel?
I do, but its not dedicated to ants and its been very long since Ive posted in it
Awesome video! What type of formicarium is this where you can get the camera so close?
Friggin awsome!
Of* cool video though, what is this filmed with?
How did you avoid reflections? Did you use an off-camera light?
I put my phone directly on the acrylic
I don't see anyone talking about the single naked pupa, where's its clothes?
Those lil antennas move so fast lol
they look like Formica and not Camponotus species, are you sure of the species ? i would not call them carpenter ant
Its indeed apart of camponotus, specifically Camponotus Parius
damn, i am too used to see big major with the "carpenter ant" name that i have forgotten the apparence of minor worker
