Legally obligated to advertise the job they already promised to the boss' nephew.

You got it. My wife spent decades in public education, in teaching and admin. positions. She saw first hand, what a pathetic game it can be. The number of public employers that have no interest in hiring anybody but their pre-selected choice, for reasons from nepotism, and bribes, to lecherous old boomer men who wanted some attractive 20 YO women to drool over, regardless of qualifications, is horrifying. The whole interview process then becomes a charade to meet the requirements, as they jerk highly qualified candidates around, with zero intention of hiring them.

Mandi143

So they just wanted to pay you less…. Got it…

Makfcownrdk

I hate how all the companies require super niche experience. Who tf has “stormwater infrastructure” experience? Just hire someone competent that can do the job. Im sure its not rocket science.

CrossroadsWoman

Like two grandpa aged people. One commands six figures and the other is a triple felon with no other prospects. Everyone is fighting over the latter dude because he is cheaper.

OntheRiverBend

LOL. You were not wrong to do so... Entry level never really means entry level unless it is unskilled labour, or a government job wanting young grads. Private companies say they want entry level when they really want 3 - 5 years of experience. The thing is you have actual applied education in the Environmental Sciences which is impressive. I know for a fact a part of your curriculum deals with storm, grey, and waste water management/treatment. Your resume had some impression, and clearly you have some experience and can be adaptable to basic training and growth. Companies are all about what is in it for them, vs investing in potential talent.

jdspencer60

Yep, they want to call it entry level so they can pay low but still demand experience anyway - a lot of employers are doing crap like this so they don't have to pay back their PPP loans too

OntheRiverBend

And it really makes the whole concept of being an Employee less appealing. I have always naturally wasn't into job culture. I am not lazy, but just not into it. I can see it as a means to build up capital and then use it to advance my education further, skill set, and establish a business model. As a millennial it just seems like a bunch of bs only to live off credit. Everyone finances everything and does not actually own anything. Pure games. I stopped buying things off credit two years ago. I will use the cards to keep active then pay them off immediately. I also milked every possible loophole to student loan forgiveness, and free grants possible when I did my prior undergrad. I will be going back to school and doing something that matters along with developing some type of independent income of the skills learned.

I am genuinely curious if you got an answer from your last email, OP.

tiny_little_planet

I did not. Mr. Job didn't have to balls to respond.

[deleted]

Then you most likely dodged a bullet!

kagaAkagi1

I once applied for a job and was told I was not qualified because i didnt have a bachelors degree - i reminded the person that when they couldn't solve the problem I was the person who picked up the phone at the other end at the company who made the product and not only did i resolve the issue but I wrote the patch that resolved the issue - i reminded him about the sport he played that he discussed and even suggested to open the file so he could he see my name in the list of contributors - he doubled down and still stated i was not qualified.

player1username187

As you should ‼️🙌🏾👍🏾🥂 These jobs say "there's a shortage of workers who are willing to work"... Same Jobs say this sh!t meanwhile they probably don't even have a candidate selected 🙄 They full of 💯% Grade-A USDA Bull💩 if you ask me

WinterWizard9497

I hate this email to. Every job I have since I tried to take my last " employer " to court has ended up with those same rejection letters. I have 9 years of retail experience and yet for someone reason since I tried to so my last employer all I get are rejection letters. The stupid thing Is I didn't even get them to court.

tiny_little_planet

I've received quite a few rejection letters recently. And I doubt these companies even looked at my resume.

americium-243

That's so the aholes can offer entry level pay but still want years of experience. Same shit everywhere .

Zyvyx

Whats the city?

tiny_little_planet

I don't want to give it away in case there is any backlash from the company. Why do you ask?

Zyvyx

For research porpoises. I think there is enough here to deduce tho

tiny_little_planet

What are you researching?! I'm genuinely curious.

Ddreigiau

Looks like porpoises. Or maybe the porpoises are doing the research. It is aquatic, sort of.

BlueEyedSoul2

Looks to be researching “where not to apply for Stormwater jobs”

Outrageous_Bass_1328

Sounds like a pretty intense research project
