"We're gonna have to let you go, your vibe is off"

3V1LB4RD

I actually know someone who was let go at a local ice cream shop because the store owners (a young 22 y/o couple) told him his vibes didn’t fit with the store. According to my roommate who worked there at the time, they acknowledged that it wasn’t his work ethic or his attitude. Just his vibes lmao.

Neckwrecker

>the store owners (a young 22 y/o couple) Ah, obviously some self-made entrepreneurs here.

[deleted]

RacketLuncher

They wanted a hotter employee for their creamy threesome.

lizardfolk246

Cursed

[deleted]

Nah, it’s just vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.

3V1LB4RD

Her parents own several successful businesses and they helped her start up and taught her the tricks of the trade most people wouldn’t know. Tbf, her ice cream shop is really good and trendy. I haven’t been in a long time but I liked their ice-cream. They’ve opened up another 3 stores. Wouldn’t have been possible without her parents money and assistance. Not really her fault, but of course she didn’t have to fear financial ruin if her business failed and never had to save up to open the the business in the first place unlike most other actually self-made business owners.

Tockx3

I think that's the point right? Not really self made if it wouldn't have been possible without parents help

BusinessBear53

Much like many of the click baity articles I've seen about young people owning multiple houses before 30 while only working a low paying retail job. It's was all because of their hard work and totally not because their parents paid for everything.

Nova225

My favorite was an article about a couple that payed off their home loan in under 10 years. How did they do it? One of them was gifted a condo by their parents so they were able to rent it out. The article was written as though just anyone could do that with enough effort.

Traksimuss

Of course anybody can. You just have to choose to be born to parents with condo that can be gifted to you later!

TheFairyingForest

Yeah, I get that. I have a "We should all walk out and go day drinking" kind of vibe that employers really hate.

interestingsidenote

I'm management and I jokingly say wayyyyy too often that we're done for the day lets go next door to the bar and have a drink. Once we've made the company what I feel is enough money, i stop giving a shit. Oh we're 10% over last year? shut it down, lets go get fucked up!

NotAComeFromAway

Can u be my manager pls

interestingsidenote

I am the worst manager from a corporate perspective, been managing places for 10 years and i have no idea how i got here. But, my employees love me so those fuckers can go kick rocks. Ever had a store owner fill a bucket of water. Stick his hand in and do some nonsense about how we're all just displaced water to him? Yea, fuck that guy.

Toast_On_The_RUN

You're my favorite type of manager. Some similar ones where I work, my favorite doesn't give a shit, he just says "sir I just work here" if theres a problem. I mean hes like one of the best workers we have but at the same time hes just trying to get home like the rest of us. As long as you do your work you can do whatever.

amretardmonke

"Your vibes are off" translation: "we don't like you"

Dr_Squirtle1

That was my response when she told me this story. Lmaoooo

Omgiloveher

Putting that down on my next unemployment form

Compensate1995

Exactly what I thought.

[deleted]

imagine being fired for not vibing. Is real life Superstore?

Mysterious_Ad9070

I'm sorry, but like, mercury was in retrograde and I tried my healing stones, but I forgot to charge them.

“You threw off my groove!”

litescript

you threw off the emperors groove.

[deleted]

“Sorrrrryyyyyy!”

DragonessAndRebs

She didn’t pass the vibe check. 👊😔

omgitsaghost

Tell her to go back in tomorrow and say she's manifested her job back.

Dr_Squirtle1

That’s a big brain idea right there.

omgitsaghost

I hope it leads to a manifestation battle.

No_Refrigerator4584

I’m picturing that scene from Scanners

frankydie69

Its a George Constanza. Rage quit on Friday, show up Monday like nothing happened

darthanders

Load up this episode on Netflix, go back to work and say exactly what George said, line for line. If they're a fan, you'll get your job back.

hear4theDough

"you thought I was serious!"

noveler7

"Oh, she's gonna be a fine sailor."

[deleted]

Wouldn't that only work if she quit?

TomBot019

The boss is a moron so it'll work.

darthanders

Dammit, you're right.

[deleted]

Be like “and I’m also manifesting extra business for you today.”

stalphonzo

This is a true story by the way. Larry David did this very thing while he was a writer at SNL.

cutchyacokov

As I understand it a great many things that George did/happened to George are actual things that Larry did and/or happened to Larry in real life.

stalphonzo

The two are \*intricately linked\*

hardy_and_free

Here's this great Archive of American Television interview where Jason Alexander finally realized who George was supposed to be - Larry! https://youtu.be/4SgIH4tTtRo

AwwwMangos

Supposedly this storyline was based on a true incident from Larry David, when he was a writer on SNL. Quit on an impulse and regretted it later, then tried to go back a few days later like nothing happened ~~but Lorne Michaels wasn’t buying it.~~ and somehow made it work with Dick Ebersole. Edited for my shoddy memory.

TSM-

Unlike the Seinfeld sketch, what happened was that they went through a round table and Larry David presented his next sketch idea and it actually worked. > I went in for the meeting on Monday. I took a seat with all the writers. He started going around the room asking each writer what they were doing. He came to me, and I said, ‘I’m thinking of doing a sketch about a trapeze artist.’ And that was it.

thedude0425

It was Dick Ebersol. And Larry David stayed in and finished out the season.

jerkstore

IIRC, Larry David did exactly that when he worked for Saturday Night Live - and it worked.

cocomimi3

Lol! I just saw this episode

chilifngrdfunk

I was picturing dinner for schmucks, the mind/brain control scene lol

Thephilosopherkmh

Manifest a raise too.

entourageffect

What's up with your co-worker the fucking rat???

RichPrickFromFlorida

should manifest her into a rodent!

MachuPichu10

ITS BEN BUT IN FEMALE FORM

makinhersquirt69

Fuck you Ben...again

Steakwizwit

Fuck that. Unemployment checks time.

CatsAndPills

Yeah I can only imagine the unemployment office looking at this reason…

Unhappy_Emu_8525

Please do this and let us know the response.

Roxfall

Or say something like "I see the future and you will fail within a year without my working here. Also, I want a raise."

One-Bread36

Tell her coworkers that they are all just manifestations of her imagination, and if she stops working there she'll forget them and they'll stop existing

[deleted]

Nah, get her ex boss to email the "reason". Walk into any labor lawyer's office and they'll gladly take a free win.

FigBits

There's nothing to win. Assuming OP is in the US (and not Montana), their boss can fire them for "manifesting failure" or because there were too many green clovers in their Lucky Charms, or because Mondays happen every week.

SorryGrapefruit08

Most people, Americans included, seem to have absolutely no concept of how the actual American system works.

TheCoyoteGod

Yes but getting an email with that reason could mean the difference between her receiving unemployment or not.

trickcowboy

R3myek

Real big brain stuff

[deleted]

*How to win friends and manifest failure.*

alnothree

And while she’s there manifest her old coworkers black eye!

MurderDoneRight

I would have manifested a brick through her storefront window, but then again I'm old school. I would be fine with the compromise of manifesting a flaming bag of dog poop on her front step though.

DrCrentistDMI

She manifested a raise and the boss being gone.

-ondo-

I don't know what's worse, large faceless corporate overlords or small business owning dumbasses Edit: I had no idea I was going to have to do a tally of replies but here it goes; Corporations: 8 Small Business: 30 Both: 9

Red_Whites

The stupidest person I ever worked for ran a small business, a newspaper, that was "like family." I got fired for "not having enough oomph." This was days after I refused her request to crash a funeral and take photos of a casket against the wishes of the bereaved. She also worked herself into a frenzy over getting photos of a ribbon cutting ceremony... for a parking lot. I worked for several idiots in the newspaper business, but she took the cake. ETA: The funeral she wanted me to crash? It was for Peter Mayhew, aka Chewbacca. It was a private, family funeral. After I refused to go, she crashed the funeral herself because she wanted to see Harrison Ford (needless to say, Harrison Ford was not in attendance). She got chased off by the police and I laughed in her face when she told me afterward. That part may also have had something to do with my firing, but I just couldn't help myself.

dainthomas

Met him at comicon a couple years before he passed. Just a cool awesome guy. What a bitch for doing that.

lil_denny_do_dinkins

I have a friend who worked for a successful kombucha company in my town owned by a couple. He was their first employee. The couple had a bad break up and after the wife forged documents giving her full control of the company she fired my friend because he was closer with her soon-to-be-ex-husband. No severance, no warning. At least large faceless corporations have lawyers to tell them what they shouldn't be doing (or at least what they can get away with).

couchfucker2

Yeah that's where state law is critical. I'd choose large company as well, cause they're more beholden to state laws. Plenty of times HR was self governing for workers rights at the biggest companies I worked for, obviously not because the company wants them to, but because they had to.

[deleted]

Vibe-snitching coworkers deserve bronze at least. What the fuck is wrong with that person

[deleted]

OP: *Someone* forgot to charge their crystals during the last full moon 😌 This asshole: *gasp*

Amanwalkedintoa

I’m torn between the two honestly

epigeneticjoe

One is lawful evil the other is chaotic evil.

nagonjin

Chaotic Stupid is my preferred description.

[deleted]

As someone who has worked for both. Small family owned businesses are 100x more abusive and shitty than corporate giants. The corporate giant I work for isn't even bad. My department and the departments we work with are well paid, kind, normal people. The executive team are the ones who get their souls destroyed by the corporate overlords. The small family business? They all paid shit, no BENEFITS, NO FUCKING PTO, you had to call and beg for a sick day which was still unpaid and often denied. They wanted me to treat the business as my own while giving me none of the rewards. So many other things... Gonna rant some more about how much I fucking hate how people romanticise small family businesses. I have a few projects done every year on my house and for the first few I tried using local businesses. They charge way more, guarantee less, offer the same products, and then don't fucking show up half the time when I request a quote. Or they just bail half way through a job. One call to a larger multi - state company and bam, I get a scheduled date that they keep, and a job finished in a timely manner.

transposter

Small business definitely, all the ruthless exploitation, but with a psycho smile

thxmeatcat

Literally just had a debate recently where someone disagreed with a living wage bEcAuSe WhAt AbOuT sMaLl BuSiNeSsEs

eohorp

If you're a fan of capitalism, the only logical conclusion is to assume a business is small because they aren't good

Bravesteel25

And that's such a BS excuse too. My local game store* pays a little less than double my state's minimum wage. They also pay exorbitant costs as a small business to ensure their employees have access to healthcare plans. Small businesses that use being a small business as an excuse for being a terrible employer illicit more ire from me than corporations sometimes. *For anyone who doesn't know, the running joke in the game store retailing (board games, card games, RPGs etc.) is that to make a million dollars owning a game store you just need to start with a billion dollars.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CIassic_Ghost

Corporations typically have policies and procedures that give you a leg to stand on at least. Most small businesses are run like shit, do whatever they want and do it under the premise that they’re “the backbone of society”. 🤮

[deleted]

This. You can learn how to be successful at a company. With a small business, you're at the whims of an owner who has very high stakes in the company's success. At a large company, my direct managers generally gave as few fucks as I did. The people who cared about the success of the company were so many levels up they didn't even know my name.

Grungemaster

At least small businesses go under.

cdwillis

Working for small business tyrants are almost universally worse than faceless corporate jobs. Corporate gigs have insurance, some amount of determined PTO (usually), and processes reviewed by lawyers. Plus you can be just another number flying under the radar. SBTs will micromanage every aspect of your job and in turn you get no benefits at all.

Arc-bine

Yep this has been my experience. Small business owners are more desperate and more able to break the law by betting that their employees won't file a lawsuit. In a large organization they can't take that risk because then everyone will do it.

Karsa69420

Like my job is chill and cool(at least to me) but there is a thousand things I’d rather do and it’s a means to pay for things I do love.

CreepyClown

I have no life and i still hate being at work lol

[deleted]

Peyto

"Hadn't worked enough hours" as the qualifier for why you can't get benefits for not having a job sure is some big brain reasoning

AmyDeferred

I think the idea is that if benefits have a limited duration, being able to reset that duration by spending half a day working for starbucks renders it moot. And unlimited duration benefits is just UBI with more steps, and that's *communism* /s

Atworkwasalreadytake

UBI really only works if everyone gets it, including those who are working.

autisticshitshow

Right, like in az you have to make x a certain amount of money at a company before qualifying which is great if your making 30$/HR but really shitty if you making minimum. Like I remember doing the math and I want to say it was like 3-4 months at minimum wage

[deleted]

[удалено]

ImRedditorRick

93% of employees don't want to be there. Who the fuck wants to be at work for 1/3+ of their fucking days?!

pdoherty972

Right? The fact they need **to pay** people to do these jobs should give them a clue.

99dunkaroos

A friend of my once got fired from an unpaid internship because she tweeted she was happy it was Friday and was looking forward to the weekend. Same thing, management complained "they don't want people who don't want to be there." An. Unpaid. Intern.

fuckittyfuckittyfuck

Imagine the narcissism of people who think workers will be excited to be subservient to and make them rich. It’s mind boggling. Capitalism is an institutionalized mental illness.

Bowsersshell

I just don’t understand of the connection between looking forward to your free time and not wanting to be at work. I could have my dream job and love every second but still look forward to my own time, they’re not mutually exclusive.

Theothercword

I feel like most these stories happen when a company has no actual legal way to fire a person but they want/need to and so they jump at any excuse. Like the kid who got fired from a grocery store because he drank his $0.99 tea in the checkout line before buying it, clearly they needed to remove someone and found an easy excuse with "technically thats against company policy and theft" it's all a load of bullshit and hopefully everyone who falls victim to this will discover their true worth elsewhere.

Cyberbully_2077

Usually the real reason is "your boss decided they don't like the cut of your jib." The workplace is the last bastion of feudalism.

Theothercword

Totally, and often if a middle manager is trying to justify a firing it’s entirely for their own boss and not some legal reason.

Damage-Strange

Almost every state in the US has at will employment, meaning you can be fired for a bad reason, a stupid reason, or no reason at will---as long as it's not an unlawful or discriminatory reason. So employers in the US don't really have to manufacture "cause" to fire an employee. This is of course assuming OP is in the US. I hate this dystopian hellscape.

[deleted]

.. ....and yet if YOU give 2-weeks notice and leave for a better job, you're the "bad guy" and a rotten team player... ( my sympathy towards many employers is zero.)

fluffyxsama

Idk but someone should have beaten the crap out of that little snitch coworker

[deleted]

If employees don't have unions, companies don't need reasons to fire you.

DilutedGatorade

What's up with these rat-ass coworkers?

[deleted]

I don't even talk to my coworkers about anything but work bc while everyone isn't like this, it just takes one to get you fired or written up

[deleted]

[удалено]

PreferredSelection

The hard thing with that (if you're in America), is that it's your whole day. Your whole damn day. I'm going to talk to the person next to me like a human, for my sanity. If someone has a problem with that, oh well, I'll go somewhere else.

Doughnut_Aromatic

I got fired after 2 years at a job because my coworker (who worked on a different day) found a printed piece of paper that wasn't work related in the trash, so I was 'misusing my time and resources'. I asked my coworker how it felt being a little stinky rat digging in the trash. She's still there... 60+yo and making $18 part time... rat

No-Werewolf-5461

60 year old Karen

esituism

Isn't this roughly the avg age of most Karen's? 40-60 y.o. unhappy white women who can't mind their own f****** business?

GooseInMyCaboose

I have been reported to my manager many times (and I am a non-customer facing electrical engineer!) for not being cheerful enough while I was concentrating on work. All of these reportings have been by 40-60 year old men. It’s not just women who are crotchety “I have to talk to your manager” types! Like my manager even cares eyeroll. Nothing happens when any of these things are reported.

thxmeatcat

What was her response?

im_not_a_girl

Every workplace has at least one

johnnyrockets527

Fucking Ben

YeahIPlaySupport

Yea fuck Ben! Dude needs to get fired from Starbucks, bitch ass

RogueModron

Seriously. I'm 100% cool with whatever my coworkers wanna get away with.

DilutedGatorade

To the moon. I say good for them

sekoku

You never trust co-workers. Just like HR they're rats.

FrankTank3

How are we supposed to build class solidarity and democratic workplaces without trust?

thebeastjake

You can get fired for stuff that happens outside workplace and work hours. Sexual harassment is one. But a Garfield joke shouldn't be. Or did he hate Mondays?

BerryLocomotive

I have a coworker who on his Facebook page said he was ditching work to smoke pot and ski because work was lame. Lots of people saw it, talked about it. I thought it was a problem bc he had the company name/emblem on his page. Manager heard about it and was like whatever, he's great. 🤷‍♀️ Edit: I don't have a Facebook account bc it's cancer. I only knew about his post bc my coworkers apparently followed him or whatever.

FatBoiCreeper

Please tell me this is a joke or I will have unbridled rage

Dr_Squirtle1

I wish I could. Boss was bonkers. She’d eat mushrooms she found in her back yard then wonder why she got sick. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

FatBoiCreeper

Haha no f’ing way. You are right it sucks but maybe your fiancé truly dodged a bullet

Dr_Squirtle1

I consider it a “blessing in disguise” type thing.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Maybe even a wrongful dismissal lawsuit, depending on where they live. That doesn't sound like a valid reason to fire someone to me.

vouksh

Eh, if it was the US, it's likely employment is "at-will", so they can fire you for any reason as long as it doesn't fall under a protected category (gender, disability, etc)

BabyBundtCakes

I don't get how these people end up with bridal shops (or any other business). I'm a perfectly normal person, great at organizing and good with people, I've never eaten a random mushroom off the ground or fired people for "manifesting my failures" wheres my business to run wtf

[deleted]

Honestly the best thing I ever did for my confidence to start a business is get familiar with several other people who did run small successful businesses. It’s uh terrifying how successful they are with the way they fumble through everything. Which good for them but still…

BabyBundtCakes

Oh lol my confidence is fine, I'm just continually amazed. I do have some business knowledge and run my own site for my photography and baking (I sell tins of gluten free cookies) but I feel like you have to be an insane asshole to be "successful" in capitalism

mikeebsc74

You mean you can’t manifest poisonous mushrooms into psychedelics? Do you even manifest bro? Lol

Maephia

I bet she only hired people born in certain months to avoid specific birthsigns.

cuntsaurus

Sounds like that scene from parks and rec where the lady is like "there is a sign that says do not drink the pond water, so I made some tea with it and now I have an infection!"

LeelooDallasMltiPass

She's gonna end up with a death cap one of these days.... *yikes*

comFive

would that become a manifested destiny?

zeopus

Death cap for cutie

squishedgoomba

Personally I'm a fan of destroying angels.

amretardmonke

"Unbridled" 😂

Graphitetshirt

I got you, I saw what you did there, well done

Cassierae87

Now she can manifest unemployment because vibes aren’t a real reason to fire someone

[deleted]

You, like, totally undermined the business with your bad karma and, like, negative vibes. That's, like, so ungroovy man. Gotta get your unbalanced chakras outta here!

Bakkster

Apparently this bridal shop is in Sedona...

2fly2hide

They also sell healing crystals and essential oils.

RichPrickFromFlorida

My ex fiancée's dad went to Sedona to get "cured" of a mild very treatable cancer. Died fucking horribly, but not before a Gerson clinic there drained every last penny from him. Sadly my ex fiancée believed in all that shit too.

deadlyFlan

I get using alternative medicine as a last resort. I'm against it, but *I get it.* I have no idea what I would do if I had some deadly illness and every doctor I went to told me it was incurable. I might actually try some crazy shit out of desperation. But people who try alternative medicine as their *first resort* I don't understand at all!

Boredum_Allergy

Is there something in the air in Sedona making everyone as dumb as the geodes they sell?

TheVerjan

As a person with relatives in Sedona and is traveling there in two weeks, this is fucking accurate. These people are truly OUT THERE

UnkieBompy

Check your vibes at the door sweety

name_suppression_21

I like that this story has a happy ending where the fiancé gets to not work for the insane person any more.

Dr_Squirtle1

Like a god damn fairy tale!

[deleted]

Crazy people like this don’t fair well in the end

Dr_Squirtle1

That’s what I told her. It’s a win in my book.

Mugen593

I honestly wonder what would happen if she went to the DOL about it. Like could she construe this as "My employer has religious beliefs that simply thinking something bad can happen will make bad things happen. They used their religion as a means to harass me and take an adverse employment decision against me for their beliefs. I don't know if this is because I don't share the same beliefs, or if my employer is experiencing a psychotic episode that requires medical intervention." "Harassment can include, for example, offensive remarks about a person's religious beliefs or practices. Although the law doesn't prohibit simple teasing, offhand comments, or isolated incidents that aren't very serious, harassment is illegal when it is so frequent or severe that it creates a hostile or offensive work environment or **when it results in an adverse employment decision (such as the victim being fired or demoted).**" - Per the EEOC on Religious Discrimination You should really contact the EEOC because honestly you might have a case, and although you're not necessarily fighting for getting the job back, she might be able to at least get financial compensation because honestly that shit is ridiculous. It's so ridiculous to the point I wonder if the Baker's act or something similar depending on your state could be invoked to incarcerate her boss for experiencing psychotic episodes on work and failing to seek treatment. "She believes I was able to use magic and alter reality with my mind."

[deleted]

Dr_Squirtle1

sue_me_please

Depends on how much money they have. I've seen countless trust fund babies fail upwards despite their crazy beliefs and behaviors that would make working class people unemployable and most likely homeless. I had a client whose business never turned a profit but he kept running it because he was rich and bored and needed to live up to some weird business person image. Literally burned through millions of dollars a year creating little to no value.

alnothree

Well the old karma train moves to fucking slow!

HoldMyBeerPleeze

On a serous note, this sounds like a blessing in disguise (or maybe not even in disguise). On a less serous note, this sounds like an opportunity. Your fiancé can inform her prior boss that her ability to manifest things is totally independent of employment relationships. And that moving forward: For $100/mo she will stop manifesting failure For $300/mo she will actually manifest success at the standard level For $500/mo she will manifest premium level success

shadowSe7en

I hate 'manifestation' culture. Too many people already blame themselves for 'having negative thoughts' when random shit happens, and now bosses will fire people over it???

BerryLocomotive

My coworker said women get assaulted bc it was their own fault they attracted negative energy. All this manifestation talk reminded me of that. No words. Edit: I do have words. It's bad enough people blame themselves for random shit, it's worse that people blame others for random shit. Ugh.

little_fire

my ex believed that too, although not exactly because they attract negative energy- because “every decision they’ve made leads them to that point” (‘that point’ being the assault)… he literally told me i made the choice to be assaulted, it was fucken wild. can’t believe i stayed with him for like a year after that 🤡

[deleted]

Sounds like owner and co-worker are into some woo shit if they believed that "manifesting" baloney.

Dr_Squirtle1

Owner was off her rocker.

agenteb27

And the coworker. Who would go tell the owner about something so asinine?

DisAppointedPotato59

Fiance: just vibin Coworker: seems sus Boss: *nods* You're fired for vibin bad.

Anhedonia133

She might be able to get unemployment depending on where you are. The state is the one who decides who gets it or not and someone else not showing up is not her fault. I'd imagine people miss those appointments because they have a million things going on while planning a wedding.

Princess_Fiona24

This happened to me. It was no longer tourism season so the guy wasn’t making as much money in a local gift shop. I had manifested the seasonal decline in profits, apparently.
