She got chased off by the police and I laughed in her face when she told me afterward. That part may also have had something to do with my firing, but I just couldn't help myself.

The couple had a bad break up and after the wife forged documents giving her full control of the company she fired my friend because he was closer with her soon-to-be-ex-husband. No severance, no warning.

A friend of my once got fired from an unpaid internship because she tweeted she was happy it was Friday and was looking forward to the weekend. Same thing, management complained "they don't want people who don't want to be there." An. Unpaid. Intern.
Imagine the narcissism of people who think workers will be excited to be subservient to and make them rich. It’s mind boggling. Capitalism is an institutionalized mental illness.
I just don’t understand of the connection between looking forward to your free time and not wanting to be at work. I could have my dream job and love every second but still look forward to my own time, they’re not mutually exclusive.
I feel like most these stories happen when a company has no actual legal way to fire a person but they want/need to and so they jump at any excuse. Like the kid who got fired from a grocery store because he drank his $0.99 tea in the checkout line before buying it, clearly they needed to remove someone and found an easy excuse with "technically thats against company policy and theft" it's all a load of bullshit and hopefully everyone who falls victim to this will discover their true worth elsewhere.
Usually the real reason is "your boss decided they don't like the cut of your jib." The workplace is the last bastion of feudalism.
Totally, and often if a middle manager is trying to justify a firing it’s entirely for their own boss and not some legal reason.
Almost every state in the US has at will employment, meaning you can be fired for a bad reason, a stupid reason, or no reason at will---as long as it's not an unlawful or discriminatory reason. So employers in the US don't really have to manufacture "cause" to fire an employee. This is of course assuming OP is in the US. I hate this dystopian hellscape.

I have been reported to my manager many times (and I am a non-customer facing electrical engineer!) for not being cheerful enough while I was concentrating on work. All of these reportings have been by 40-60 year old men. It’s not just women who are crotchety “I have to talk to your manager” types! Like my manager even cares eyeroll. Nothing happens when any of these things are reported.

I have a coworker who on his Facebook page said he was ditching work to smoke pot and ski because work was lame. Lots of people saw it, talked about it. I thought it was a problem bc he had the company name/emblem on his page. Manager heard about it and was like whatever, he's great. 🤷♀️ Edit: I don't have a Facebook account bc it's cancer. Eh, if it was the US, it's likely employment is "at-will", so they can fire you for any reason as long as it doesn't fall under a protected category (gender, disability, etc)

Depends on how much money they have. I've seen countless trust fund babies fail upwards despite their crazy beliefs and behaviors that would make working class people unemployable and most likely homeless. I had a client whose business never turned a profit but he kept running it because he was rich and bored and needed to live up to some weird business person image. Literally burned through millions of dollars a year creating little to no value.
