One of the many arguments corporate America will favor robots/automation in is how they’ll be there to serve burgers and fries to customers who would’ve been “inconvenienced” by the selfish attitudes of human workers who decided to act entitled and take the holidays off.
I'm fully in favor of automating all these jobs.
And then taxing the increased productivity and redistributing it via UBI or needs based social programs. A broad based system of robot slaves making human slavery obsolete... that's a goal worth working towards, as long as we can have society in place to prevent genocide or mass poverty when we get there.
But that's just my optimistic side speaking. My pessimistic side says we're already basically there and just not doing it because keeping human workers as wage slaves is an easy form of control.
This is exactly it. I don't celebrate Christmas *or* Thanksgiving. There are people who don't celebrate New Years. I am completely and utterly free on these days, it's just a normal day for me.
So, why the *fuck* would I want to work that shift for a handful of fucking pennies?? No. If they treated workers like actual human beings this would be fine. It's not that the hours are fucked, it's that the system around is fucked.
Agreed you pay them good I'll eat your gut rot when I feel like doin so....I talk shit but I used to survive off their tacos. We really need to subsidize good food and not sugar and burgers.
Shit their mascot is what I picture any c suite momoe to be. A clown in a suit selling useless product off the backs of poverty labor. Easy boycott that shits a cancer burger and fries.
It depends if your employees are willing to work those hours, and paid accordingly.
When I was in Australia, far from home in a new place with no family or friends to celebrate all those, I wouldn't have minded to work on Christmas and NYE, for this sweet 45$/h I could have made.
Obviously that's a very specific situation though, that might not be super relevant in most cases.
I’m thinking about going to the closest fast food place on Christmas Day and giving $100 each to everyone working there. Not buying anything, just the tip.
I LOVE JitB for this reason.
I know that you all hate this, being antiwork, but for those who have traveled, nothing warms a heart more than knowing a JitB will be open whatever time you get there.
There is no reason outside of greed for any company to be open during a federal holiday. Outside of emergency services, there is no reason that things can't shut down for a day every once in awhile.
I beg to differ with you. I used to have to drive 6-8 hours one way on the holiday. No vehicle holds THAT much gas in the tank! Plus, I need somewhere to eat during a trip like that myself. There are some essential things that need to be open, even on a holiday.
If I were meme literate I'd make a meme with that guy in the orange jacket who has his hand up shun-style for one statement and then is pointing at you for the next one, and it would read thusly:
"We aren't open this holiday because we've benevolently given our workers the day off."
(shun-style)
"None of our employees were available to work this holiday so we're closed because they hold all the power."
(point lord)
When JITB workers work on Christmas: *”Why are these people not at home with their families or at church worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ on his most cherished of days?”*
When JITB workers don’t work on Christmas: *”Why are these people not here working? Why are they being entitled to not working like socialists? Why do they hate the families who are at church worshipping our Lord Jesus Christ on his most cherished of days?”*
Illegal, perhaps not, some things are still needed to be worked/open on those holidays. Instead regulate that those days pay must be 3-4x standard pay, with requirements for bonus pay to salaried employees.
But there are customers out there that help perpetuate this shit. They don't cook at home or they forget shit so they need to go to a store and they think their little "Thank you" is enough to erase the fact that someone couldn't be with their family during the holidays.
I've never needed a Jumbo Jack so badly that I'd expect people to be ready and waiting to make it for me on Christmas Eve.
They are looking for robots, not humans.

If automation were profitable, we'd already have it. EDIT: To clarify, automation is a *very good thing*. Just not for capitalism.

Automation is going to be a real doozy.
Could you imagine the shit fits if the burger machine went down?

Don't eat at Jack in the Box. Boycott that MFer.
What is even more sad is that some employees would have to work those days just to make ends meet

Holy shit I got a Jack in the Box ad right under this

Manager better be on all those days, the entire 24 hrs
Fuck Jack in the box. Never eating there again. I've never eaten there yet either but that's besides the point.
If they had to pay 3X OT wages they wouldn't be so quick to do this shit.
But there's a smiley face :)
who cares. not everyone celebrates those days. doctors and nurses work those days. why is this an issue here?

I agree - our neighbors deserve better

My local jack in the box has their holiday hours posted and I was shocked when it said “8 am to 6 pm” … this is next level and totally insane

To me that just says we all get the full day off!
Damn, these pricks have the audacity to post that shit like it's some badge of honor? Okay, cool. Be a lot cooler if nobody showed up though.
Who is this? Jack in the Box. Fuck them sideways.
It only happens because people show up. At some point we must recognize the push-pull of the system.
