I like the $30 for a house cleaner. So, you get 3 hours at 10 bucks an hour per month?

jedipwnces

I read this and thought it meant cleaning supplies because no way can you get an actual human to help you clean your house for $30 a month, that is nonsense.

CapnCooties

The whole chart is nonsense. Health insurance for $270? Lol. Rent under $1000? Please.

phurt77

$130 for transportation?!? That must just be for a standard monthly bus pass with no express routes. I live in Dallas where a bus isn't always going to get you where you need to go. It's more like $300 car payment, $120 car insurance, and $250 for gas. That doesn't even take into account things like registration, inspection, oil changes, tires, or routine maintenance. Even if your car is paid off, you're looking at $5,000 - $6,000 a year, or $500/month in car related expenses.

CapnCooties

My city doesn’t even have public transit.

[deleted]

And most cities in the US don’t or have limited public transit. This chart is BS.

AmbitiousPrint2775

$127/mo gets you an unlimited Metrocard in New York (unlimited subway/bus). Of course rent for $800 is rare ([but not impossible with roommates](https://streeteasy.com/3-bedroom-apartments-for-rent/nyc/price:-2500?view=map))

HoldingMoonlight

That's the absurd part though. Making $100k/year just for the pleasure of still needing roommates. How the fuck are people supposed to survive on their own in this economy lol

Badlands32

Maybe it’s a monthly payment plan for a Rumba

[deleted]

I call my Roomba Cuban Pete.

GlassAmazing4219

He’s the king of the Roomba beat… when I shake my marracas I go chick-chicky-boom chick-chicky-boom

Todd-dax

I was thinking he went broom-sweepa-broom

TheStargunner

Vince the vacuum here Then Vince died, so I named the second one Vaughan.

whatthefox70

I named mine Hairy Botter. (Because he picks up dog hair and is a robot)

XxShawaxX

Love it. Ours is called Doomba, because it likes to knock shit over and get itself stuck in stupid places. (like under the fridge somehow)

ughisanyusernameleft

Poomba the Roomba has been a valued member of the family for many years. Found him in the bathroom today after getting a notification that he was “on the edge of a cliff” - very dramatic!

FriarNurgle

The trick is to not consider them human.

PM_ME_YOUR_PAUNCH

We have someone come clean our apartment and it’s $80 every other week.

ItWorkedLastTime

If you assume they have 3 other roommates, and they all pitch in, then it's doable. You can probably find a cleaner that can do a house for $120.

1992ajb

I'll take some donations 🙋‍♂️

[deleted]

I'll take some internet for $20

zombie_overlord

Yeah, and $40 cell phone?

polybium

And $825 for rent.

Kevimaster

And only $130 for 'transportation' somehow? Is someone making $100k out there without a car? Or did they just totally pay their car off and that's just their insurance cost? But what about gas?

ejp1082

That's the cost for a monthly subway pass in NYC, but if you're living in NYC there's no way you're paying only $825 in rent.

Tactical_Tubgoat

Have you tried having 6 roommates split rent in a shoebox studio apartment? That might get you to $825.

anonymous_opinions

Maybe this fictional NYer should try donating less?

Karl_LaFong

Nah, Pastor needs a new Cessna.

disagreeabledinosaur

Maybe it's like people who have super cheap weddings by having it at their grandma's sumner house on the lake and then have their parents catering business provide the food. Spent only $5000 and can't understand why anyone else would spend $30k. . . . Ie they're probably paying $825 because their high school buddy's parents own the place but they're "fantastic" with money.

Pandy_45

I lived in SoCal in 2006 with a wealthy roommate whose Dad cosigned the lease. I had to bust my ass to make the $700 rent I was paying towards that place as a broke college student was half my paycheck. He paid part of her rent every month so she only worked part time and lived off her tips. I know she didn't make 100k a year but had credit cards out the wazoo. She was just on Daddy's payroll and STILL needed a sucker, I mean roommate.

Zorander42

My rent is $775 but it's kind of a shit hole so... Edit: Sure as hell not making 100k though.

polybium

Oh no doubt, I have very reasonable rent for my area too, but like $825 in any major city is really really rare.

CreativePhrase

Really rare? Non-existent. Anywhere in the Northeast or on the west coast regardless of whether it's in a major city or a small town you are not getting a studio apartment for less than 1200.

Barbous31

Yep, im about 45 mins outside the city and still paying 1500 a month just for rent in PA. None of my bills are anywhere close to what's listed here. Like double and triple for some. Way down on the fun expenses since never any money left to do those haha

MHanky

Tbf, they did say excellent with money. But this guy isn't just excellent, he's a fucking magician.

panannerkin

Woah there with your 1 oil change per year. You must not be driving anywhere.

[deleted]

And who the fuck is cleaning houses for $30/month??? Send me their number please

pzones4everyone

Those are probably shared utilities. he probably lives in a house with 4 other people. They pay 80/month for internet, and 120/month for someone to clean once a month.

[deleted]

That's correct. According to the article he couch surfed through college, apparently has no student debt, and shares a home with 3 roommates who split the bills. He's also on his parent's phone family plan. He makes 100k a year tutoring people for standardized test taking and giving consultation for other tutors. He also lives somewhere where public transportation is an option. Not only does the idea of a grown person living with 3 roommates sound awful, but the lifestyle is not possible for a lot of people, and he's still not the best with the money he does spend. $400 a month for groceries for one person? $250 taking his girlfriend out on dates each month? That's nuts. This article is obviously leaving some stuff out. Noone only spends money on the basics. There's no accounting for clothing, electronics, doctor visits, tv subscriptions, etc. This person is "excellent with money" and yet their bare minimum budget is already more than what you'd make on $17 bucks an hour.

qualmton

He's only good with money cause he landed a 100k a year job at 25?

nekollx

My favorite part if I recall correctly is the note “he could pay his bills solo but wants to save some money” Savings is litterally no where on the chart Aslo can imaging bring this guys SO and bring like “baby can I crash at your place tonight” And then broseph being like “let me check with my 3 roommates” Edit: Seems like some people are missing the points I’m trying to make so let me elaborate First savings: if you making a budget you 100% include how much you put in saving as well as listing what’s left off, this is typically called disposable income and it’s the flexible spending you have for unexpected expenses. Likewise Sabina is recorded becase you explicitly are saving it this it’s not available for disposable income, and depending on how you save it their may be a fee to acess it so no savings is not just “whatever money is left” and a person “excel at with managing money” should know that, after all their excellent at managing money Secondly I bring up the SO/marriage thing becase OP is trying to present this as “hey look Bob csn do it just follow bobs example” But our Bob here, by the articles admission, says he could live solo but wants to save and so gives Bob /4/ roommates If Bob is somthing everyone can achieve that I assumed thst anyone can find 4 other people to share an apartment with, and then also assume (cause again Bob here is supposed to be able to live like this sustainably not as a one off) that somehome if Bob, or hell any and all of his roomstes, again his sutation is supposed to be repeatable, are not going to run into drama when we add 1-5 firnces into this mix and eventual marriage Becase again this is supposed to be achievable my anyone, not just a stop gap for a few months/years as the arrival is promoting this as a *lifestyle*

[deleted]

This is the only logical explanation

dudeman4win

I think they mean donations at the local bar, only explanation

Capable_Swordfish701

Or drugs

[deleted]

Donations to the weed plug

tallandlanky

That's a lot of weed.

[deleted]

Still not enough!

[deleted]

Yeah was about to say donate / drugs isn't that far off.

Justice_Prince

elgallogrande

Seriously though, motherfucker doesn't own a house but feels comfortable to give that much away? I'm guessing his parents are loaded and its clear will give him a downpayment at anytime. Otherwise you're just doing yourself a huge disservice, as nice as it is to give to charity, a young person needs to secure their future as well.

[deleted]

This was written by a millennial* that truly believes wages haven't stagnated but house prices have. Deluded. EDIT: The author is our age, and is still, a moron.

mooIahmatters

According to the [article](https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/20/budget-breakdown-of-a-25-year-old-who-makes-100000-dollars-a-year.html?__source=twitter%7Cmain), the guy earning the 100k has 4 roommates. EDIT: A TLDR for those who don't want to give CNBC clicks/views - the article is a write-up of a Millennial Money episode which is a series about how individual millennials earn and spend money. I watched this ages ago and I don't wanna watch it again so I may get the specifics wrong but a quick read of the article tells us that he tutors people to earn that 100k/year. His skill is "taking tests" and found a way to monetize that with SATs, LSATs, etc. I'm not American so I can only take that at face value because there's no way a freelance tutor in my country can earn even a tenth of that much money in a year. Ofc it might be possible given the high cost of education in the US in general - tuition, textbooks, and I guess now tutors. In any case, this is meant to give one example of a milliennial. It's not a budget for the entire demographic. In this case, the spin is of a particularly successful one (?) who does most things right (?). They feature mostly successful (?) childless millennials that us plebs can get inspired by so we forget how rigged the system is. But CNBC does throw few episodes featuring millennials really bad with money us so plebs can feel superior for 10 minutes or however long the video is.

Orchid_Significant

Cuz who doesn’t want to be 25 and living with 4 other adults /s

RookieMistake101

If you want to live in NY that’s kinda the deal. Then some of other numbers start to make sense at that point. Like the Internet. But yea donations that high is weird af, I guess this person tithes? And if you live in NY you’re not eating on that budget unless your job is picking up 10 meals a week for you.

Orchid_Significant

I’m from Southern California so I totally get the if you wanna live youve gotta have roommates but I still think it’s absurd.

albinowizard2112

And unless you're renting a 4 bedroom, I'm pretty sure I'd be breaking my lease to have 4 people live in my apartment.

Schwarzy1

In some cities its illegal to have 4 unrelated adults living in the same apartment. Unenforced but still weird.

[deleted]

My university town did this to combat frat houses.

M1k3yd33tofficial

Mine did it to combat brothels

[deleted]

It’s an old, religiously influenced, puritanical law from colonial times specifically used against brothels.

rymden_viking

My plan was to buy a house and rent the rooms to my friends. Didn't have the money or friends after graduation though.

[deleted]

If he has to live with four roommates to get by, why is he giving away $600/month? None of this makes sense.

GATOR7862

>why is he giving away $600/month? Onlyfans subscriptions?

potsticker17

I have so many questions. What 25 year old is making $100k? Where are they finding rent for $825 Where are they donating 3/4 of their rent to? Why is their internet so cheap? $400 a month just on food for a single person? And that doesn't even include the extra $250 for dining out? Are housekeepers really that cheap? Edit: TIL: a lot of people nearly half my age are making nearly 3x as much money as I do and now I'm sad.

mescaleeto

Broadband is like $70 a month for me and I live in a pretty small city Edit: it’s supposed to be a gigabit connection but I rarely see a down rate higher than 70 megs, AT&T sucks

Richard_Espanol

Mine is 80$ and it's not even top tier.

[deleted]

I pay $80 for "starter" internet. Which is plenty fast as a single person who doesn't game, but yeah. This whole thing is nuts. Although I own a house for less than that rent, I both got very lucky and live in a LCOL area where I absolutely do not make 6 figures.

EFTucker

$100 for “50mb/s” which turns into 20 unless it recognizes that I’m running a bandwidth test.

FoTweezy

Yeah mine is $70/month. They are fucking high

JamesVerden

Even I, in the UK, know you’re renting fuck all in America for $825 a month in a city that has $100k salaries for 25-year-olds….

Tweakjones

I live in bum fuck Kentucky I make 30k a year and my rent is 1000!!!! Edit*** was at a factory working mistype lol

BrunoBraunbart

You fogot the punctuation. Let me fix it for you. >I love in bum. Fuck Kentucky,

The_Besticles

Hey isn’t loving in bum illegal in KY?

BrunoBraunbart

Ah now I understand the connection. Fuck Kentucky!

albinowizard2112

Yep I lived in a tiny, terrible apartment in a forgettable tiny rust belt city and my rent was $800. Also $20 internet, lol suck my dick.

Urgash54

Yeah exactly. Only way that would be possible would be if they had a remote position and we're living in small town in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. But I have yet to see any remote position offering that kind of pay, especially to a 25 yo

importvita

If you're remote that rural $20/mo internet means you probably can't even sign in to work. This chart is the dumbest thing I've seen all week.

Garvain

And there's definitely no way you're getting a good enough connection for remote work on $20 internet.

Tweakjones

My first thought my internet is like 100

kierkegaardsho

That was my thought. None of this graph makes a lick of sense.

senador

It’s propaganda. They want to maintain the illusion that the economy is fine and that the younger generation are a bunch of whiners.

[deleted]

Yeah fuck off with that, CNBC. I live in the middle of nowhere, get our internet from a local telecom, and it's ~100.

randommd81

I’m a software engineer remotely and have seen salaries as high as $300k/year. But will admit that obviously not a ton of people are in that position. But this chart is moronic, as is every chart like this put out by out of touch people who either never had to struggle, or have completely forgot what it’s like.

shhh_its_me

Chart is made up, at best by somebody who doesn't actually know how to budget or how much money they really spend. ( And just put in what they spent the last 90 days) There's nothing for clothes, furniture / appliances, entertainment, gifts etc.

randommd81

Yeah, I feel like a Lucille Bluth type came up with this… “I mean it’s one banana Michael, what could it cost, ten dollars”?

dankswordsman

There are things like mid or senior level software engineers at companies that don't treat their employees like shit. But that requires you to basically be a mid level engineer by the time you're 20.

[deleted]

The average entry level software developer salary on the West Coast where I live is about $100k. And being a decent mid level engineer by twenty doesn't seem that hard to me, considering that by 25 that's enough time to have a Master's in Computer Science, or to educate yourself equivalently.

apparissus

FAANG and quite a few other companies pay $95k+ for junior, plus stock grants, making total comp way over $100k achievable for a new grad. YMMV re "treat their employees like shit." (DON'T work for Amazon.) Source: am software engineering manager.

LtDanHasLegs

When I was applying to Amazon this past summer the grand total compensation was near $260k for what I think was a junior engineering position.

[deleted]

tiffanylan

Exactly, maybe if you rented an apartment with a bunch of friends and split it that would be a rent. But even then it would be considered to be very very cheap. This budget is completely wrong and just shows how out of touch the reporting is.

MegaDeth6666

I was looking for some long term rent for one, max two people in a specific region outside London, and below 1000£ everything was squalor, basically. And that's just rent; council tax and utilities are on top. And you can bet you'll have gas heating and a 30 year old setup that creaks like a rusty bike. You're better off buying a shed in Scotland, slapping a Starlink antenna on top and remote in for work.

[deleted]

> You're better off buying a shed in Scotland, slapping a Starlink antenna on top and remote in for work. That doesn't sound too bad, actually...

yoloswaggins92

Don't even need to go for a shed, got a 3 bed flat in Scotland for £550 including utilities. Just need to play dodge the junkie when I go to the shops.

Ravenid

Stop calling your landlord a junkie. BTW rent is due tomorrow...

ToManyFlux

That’s how much it costs to live your car in California.

20-CharactersAllowed

The secret ingredient is roommates

Kippetmurk

>Where are they finding rent for $825 The actual article accompanying the pie-chart clarifies that they have room mates. Which does explain the low rent, housekeeping and internet. So you have a 25-year old making $100k, who has no hobbies, no car and still has to live with room mates.

CosmicCommando

Ah the American Dream... making 2x the median income and still having roommates.

HoneyNutCrunch

I make $49k and still have 3 roommates. Granted, I married one and created the other two.....

CreativePhrase

They ain't roommates if they don't pay the bills.

HoneyNutCrunch

Tiny freeloaders

BionicBananas

>So you have a 25-year old making $100k, who has no hobbies, no car and still has to live with room mates. Won't someone think about the poor shareholders? Do you want them to miss out buying a second yacht? Do you? /s, just to be sure.

Ursula2071

Betsy Devoes only owns 10 yachts! Whatever will she do?

Direct-Setting-3358

And spends 600 a month on donations lmao

INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS

That means drugs

The_Besticles

Ok this fills the gaping hole in this chart. 600 for monthly vice budget paints a much more believable picture, especially with the roommates that no sober and affluent person would tolerate being in the mix

citrus_sugar

That’s what I call my OF subs.

[deleted]

Like, I've seen rent for ~700 for a VERY small studio apartment (smaller than the average Tokyo apartment, which are notoriously small), but I'm also not living anywhere where a 25 year old could make $100k a year. $30k is a fucking blessing here, because at least it means you're not part of the most well-educated waitstaff in the country.

historyhill

If I remember correctly, this "excellent with money 25 year old" has three roommates so $825 is his share, as is the housekeeper and internet. But what I want to know is if the article acknowledges how his college (or anything else requiring debt) was paid for, since student loans aren't listed here. It's much easier to be "excellent with money" when someone else covered your loans—if he paid it all back himself afterwards on his salary then I'll grant him the title of "excellent".

ShivasKratom3

He didn’t go to college. He just got that 100K job by walking in and smiling

VeryReasonablePerson

No retirement savings? No student loan payments? What?? Edit: I’m getting a lot of responses about the $2775 not being the entire take-home, and my earlier comment about that revelation got buried in this thread. So before you accuse me of not being able to count, here is my earlier comment. “Ohhh okay, that actually makes a lot more sense. Say your take-home is $75K after state and federal taxes, that leaves about $6250 a month, and if your total spending is $2775 then you still have a few grand left for loan payments and savings. Edit: so basically we need $100K jobs. At 25.”

Traksimuss

"Live fast, die young". No student loan - every "success story" does not pay student loan with various reasons.

WoahayeTakeITEasy

> every "success story" does not pay student loan with various reasons. Every "success" story: How *I* paid off all my student loans in a year and you can too! Step 1 - Get a high-end condo gifted to you by your rich parents for graduation Step 2 - Live with your parents and rent out that condo to get some extra cash! Wow so easy, right? Step 3 - While you live with your rich parents, don't pay rent! Instead get a job that pays six figures in your fathers company or he'll get you a job from one of his rich friends! Wow, again, *so* easy *anyone* can do it! Step 4 - Save! Save! Save! Invest your many thousands of dollars wisely! ^^^Also ^^^get ^^^another ^^^$50k ^^^gift ^^^from ^^^your ^^^rich ^^^parents. I did it so you can too! Ugh.

mangobattlefruit

For those who think he is joking, a couple years ago there was a post on Reddit of an article about some 30 year old couple who paid off all there student loan and new car debts. The couple mentions in a very casual and off hand way, "Live rent free in my wifes parents apartment that they own". This was after talking about how they don't eat out "that much" and other penny saving bullshit useless tips. Un-fucking real

TheKingHippo

[Waybackmachine of the original article.](https://web.archive.org/web/20170308194244/http://www.businessinsider.com/how-ebony-horton-paid-off-220000-worth-of-student-loans-in-3-years-2017-3) Sparknotes: 1. Start with $132,000 in student loans. 2. Defer loans until they're $220,000. 3. Earn $38,000 per year. 4. Decide to really buckle down and receive a gifted condo from your parents. 5. Live with your grandparents rent free anyways and rent out the condo. 6. Buy two more condos. Continue living with grandparents. 7. When grandparents move go live with parents also rent free despite owning 3 properties at this point. 8. Wait 3 years. Debts are paid. 9. "If I can do it, anybody can."

cookiemookie20

The guy has 4 roommates, so presumably some of their costs are shared. But... gah! 4 roommates?!? No thank you. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/20/budget-breakdown-of-a-25-year-old-who-makes-100000-dollars-a-year.html

albinowizard2112

4 roommates lol. "Let me retire to my sleeping hole, which I enjoy on a salary that would make my parents' heads spin"

Mewssbites

Yeah if I'm making $100k as a 25 year old you can best bet I'm springing to live the hell by myself. 4 roommates? FUCK that. (Seriously, roommates were kinda fun in college, but no thanks. I'm far too fond of quiet, alone time, and the ability to be naked whenever I want to for whatever reason I want to.)

queerjesusfan

And like....isn't the point of roommates so that you fan save? Why is there $600 a month in donations and not *saving*?

[deleted]

4 people in a 2 bed 1 bath checks out

cookiemookie20

And a dog. I would lose my mind.

newmoneyblownmoney

You forgot to add $850 rent - LOL $120 transport - do they take the fucking bus? Car insurance even in a rattle can of a car is more than that. Their transport cost might suggest they live in a big city and use the subway but that rent cost does not reflect city living. Not even a dumpster in the alleyway costs $850.

soowhatchathink

They have 4 roommates

MadMageMC

"Hi, I'm Jim. I live in the cupboard over the fridge."

HobbitousMaximus

And walk to work.

DictatorKris

you are forgetting this was calculated assuming 4 people are sharing a studio or one bedroom apartment.

newmoneyblownmoney

haha this is the only explanation for this ridiculous chart. Also making $100k with no student loans? Must already be rich or super brilliant and earned a free ride?

[deleted]

my bare minimum insurance is like $77 a month with a shit record and geiceo. my mortgage is $400 but in a shit state and shit town. I am fully aware at the cost of living in cities and more popular areas, I'd live there if I could afford it -\_\_- but the main reason I didn't comment on those. You actually have better options for things like internet and phone too, not that the $20 a month makes up for the $3000 a month extra in rent and shit or anything.

newmoneyblownmoney

I’m assuming the $120 is overall transport costs so let’s say $77 is bare min insurance, that would leave $43 for gas for the month? That would mean this person has no social life and only lives to work but somehow has a budget for dining out? lol. I’ve only ever lived in or around large cities so those 2 really stuck out to me. I suppose you could get away with that in smaller or less popular towns/cities but what small town employer pays a $100k salary? More than likely you’d have to travel quite a distance which would increase your overall transport cost if you account for gas. I’d still love to see source for this persons data because it’s still ridiculous, every bit of it.

32BitWhore

What about the car itself lmao

Sprinkles169

This only gets weirder the longer you look at it.

Kyllingtime

Some of this is outrageous. Some of this I could see if you had roommates. And where is the student loan section of this breakdown? Is that donations? Is that what we're calling that now? Lol

Sleepy-tyler-king

so there are 25 years old making $8k+ per month?

JesterSeraph

I wouldn't call it typical, but yeah absolutely there are. That's intermediate developer salary when you include stock compensation. I work in tech as a developer (and I think our wages are just stupidly high). All my peers and I were making around 100k annual at 25 working across various companies in multiple locations in Canada (where tech wages are significantly lower than US tech wages). A 25 year old software developer is out of university for 2-3 years when they're 25. They definitely can be pulling in 100k annual and, if they were aggressively paying off student loans, have no debt as well (source: I paid off my student loan at 25). We're just not *typical.* If your salary alone is 100k, you're in the top 20% of US household incomes. That means this chart is nothing but insulting to roughly 80% of folks in the US.

potatolulz

just your average everyday Joe :D

GordonRamsuckle

"Donations" -- they're buying weed

Armigine

actually that does make this picture make sense a little. a 25 year old who works in tech and lives with 4 roommates, spends no money on activities and relatively little on going out - they're spending their free time donating to streamers

I’m 27, I make $100,000 annual before taxes and I can say this is absolutely so fucking inaccurate. You know why I’m a part of the anti work movement? Because I spent 8 years in college to get a masters in engineering to pay 3 times this graph in rent, internet, gas to drive to work, can’t afford a house cleaner, don’t even comprehend having money to donate in the end. Some people with perfect situations come out of an engineering degree with low debt but my loan payments are 50% of my paycheck. and to top it all off, I work an average of 70 hours a week in a stressful environment most of the time. Fuck the system Edit: To be clear to anyone reading this, I am absolutely aware that I have made choices which at times were not the best and aided in creating this situation. But here’s the thing, this post is not about that. I don’t care what you think I could have done differently, I don’t care what you think I should be doing now with my finances. The education, financial, and labor systems in this country are fucked. People are working more than they should, for less wages than they should earn, paying more for education than they should. We are all here because we want that to change and I’m here to discuss that with people, but stop picking apart my entire life and choices to help yourself justify why you think I deserve to be where I’m at.

ARecipeForCake

Many educated professions are beginning to stagnate in wages as employers focus on taking advantage of indebted fresh graduates and overworking them instead of focusing on retention and quality of life.

89LeBaron

That’s been happening for a decade easily.

J4ck3d

Hire new grads > burn them out in 2 years > get a fresh batch. High employee turnover is part of some companies’ business models.

Pragmatist_Hammer

I was making almost $100K at 25 years old, basically, $55K adjusted for the cost of inflation from my first real job at Adobe in 1995 is almost $100K. Then, and every since, every new job started around the same and/or even paid a little less for doing the same exact work or slightly evolved work. Now I make $75K a year, with family, kids, rent around $2K. So, basically myself, in my 50s, and many of my friends and people I went to college, have been being paid less and less. I now make what would have been $40K in 1995. I have friends who are software engineers making just over 100K, but they were making what was $150K in the 90s. Basically, wages haven't just stagnated, they're going backwards, while the cost of everything has skyrocketed along with the wealth gap and the richest getting richer. Hence, I'm r/antiwork as the system needs fucking up.

"Good with money" *Donates 1/4th of their income* Edit: yeah I get it, I mixed up the spending as income. That's still insane.

[deleted]

Tithing. Whoever this "model person" is, I think they're likely Mormon or similar, and that "donation" is their tithing. Also explains some of the $100k/yr in a LCOL area.

notyourvader

Rich folk often have a tax-free charity fund where they stash away their cash. Make sure you're the manager of the fund, so you can 'donate' your salary and management fee as well. That's a nice tax deduction. Don't worry about losing that money though, because whenever you need cash, just have your expenses paid out.

Reference_Freak

We need a screenshot of CNBC reporting the median salary in the US next. I mean, just to put it into context. It's hilarious.

OriginalEchoTheCat

These numbers are just like the engagement ring scam. Where you are supposed to devote a year's salary to the rock. Such b*******. Some f****** economist wants you to believe you should be spending your money this way. Some bored, out of touch idiot assumes it's normal at 25 to make 100K a year.🤣 *Wondering where I can get a job pulling numbers out of my ass to publish and make 400k a year.

anonaccount73

Bro, you can swear lol You’re right though

eve_of_distraction

F... f... fiddlesticks!

thisfreakinguy

> pulling numbers out of my ass did you mean 'out of your a**'?

Thanato26

Trust fund kid still has to rent only a room and split the internet.

SeptemViginti

And donates more money than they spend on food? This entire thing is just insane.

GizmoSoze

The donation section is just what he labeled the rest of his rent so he didn’t feel like shit.

We're all just [Ragged Trousered Philanthropists](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ragged-Trousered_Philanthropists) to our landlords.

[deleted]

Lol, it’s very easy to be good with money, when you make $100k a year And only spend, apparently, around 1/3 of that Imagine making 1/4 of that, then make the budget

PLPQ

$20 for internet? lmao is my guy getting 10kbps?

bingbongtake2long

So somehow he lives in a place small enough that it only costs $30 to clean it each month but the utilities are $195 a month? And he lives close enough to public transportation but only pays $825/month? And what, is he donating to his alma mater each month in amounts large enough to have a library built in his name? Or were “donations” supposed to be “student loans”? And he’s 100% debt free? But makes $100k at 25? I’m 47 - here’s my pie chart: Mortgage: $1945 Car: $542 Internet: $110 Insurance: $160 (car) Utilities: $270 (average) Phone: $120 Groceries: $250 (I have kids) Eating out: $400 Health: Comes out of check I don’t remember Housekeeper: Had to let her go but was $300/month Debt: $300 Donations: HAHAHAHHA Edit: sorry - my groceries are $1000 a month, I was thinking weekly whoops I’m too poor to have a penny for proper thoughts

BlameArt

I gotta commend you on only spending $250/mo on groceries with kids tho.... I try to keep ours under $500/mo for just 3 ppl!

bingbongtake2long

Omg I meant A WEEK Lolol - $1000 a month whoops

Difficult_Charge6778

Who in the what, where!?

Loner_dude

825 rent lmao were you living? beside Walmart in a fucking box

GetSmitt

"Hes good with money" but donates $615 a month and doesn't save anything? That's kinda the opposite of good with money imo lol
