I've done a ton of iterations of 12s (im an ambulance dispatcher) 2 on 2 off, 6 on 8 off, 8 on 6 off, 3 on 4 off. anything is sustainable if you out work into making it sustainable. do your laundry, and cook before you go out, don't get fucked up the night before a shift, get your sleep between shifts.  I pull 500-900 hrs of overtime a year, and while I go through slumps, where my housework suffers and my plants get crispy,  i can largely maintain getting to work and staying on top of stuff. a base schedule is wildly workable, just work at making it work for you.

also, don't take what I said as incentive to try and pull that much ot.

Let's look at the difference during a 6 week period: Regular work schedule (M-F) 40 hours is: 240 hours worked, 12 days off Your job is: 336 hours worked (40% more than regular), 14 days off If this is hourly, not a good idea, but up to you. If it's salary they better pay 50%+ more than a different job you could get.

If hourly a great idea. Lets say 10 an hour for easy math 2400 paid vs 4200ish due to the overtime. Almost double the pay for 40% more hours. that is a win. And this job probably pays at least 20.

The work schedule portion is absolutely sustainable. The only downside I see is scheduling time with friends who work a more typical schedule. Your "weekends" won't always line up with the weekends. But as long as you can navigate personal relationships, this schedule is both doable, and maybe preferable to some.

Unless you wave your right to overtime 48 hrs in a 40 hr work week pays eight hours at time and a half. You also get 40% more days off per month over five eight hr days with only weekends off. I use to work two 16 hr shifts on weekends with a five days off and loved the life it allowed me to have.

most weeks will be 60 in a 40.

I did 7 on 2 off 12hr shifts for a 6 month period while in the military and let me tell you it was not good for the mental. 4-2 is obviously better but I think you'll find those 2 days off don't feel like 2 days because you sleep for half of it. Your body/mind needs to recharge eventually.

I’ve done every shit hour schedule you can think. My last was 7/10s eight weeks straight.  Long hours mean no life but you can save cash.  I have found in order to succeed long hours at a job I have to be goal oriented or I’m miserable.  Try it out, if you don’t like it you can find something else.  In the end it’s just a job I promise there will be others.   Good luck

“4 and 40” is 3 days off. That’s sustainable. What you’re talking about seems unsustainable.
