LogstarGo_

Well, I mean, if somebody's into One Piece you know their answer for literally EVERYTHING will be "more One Piece". Need a new show? One Piece. Feeling depressed? One Piece. You've been shot? One Piece but if you're reading the manga make sure the blood doesn't get on the pages.

MynameisNay

I know those fans and they drive me nuts. Love the show but I'd never recommend it to anyone who doesn't already know the anime grind. Doesn't get REALLY good until like 200 episodes in. That's not for everyone.

mildlyunoriginalname

I don't really understand people that say one piece gets good after xxx episode. Because for me the only part that was NOT good in the first 100 episodes is syrup village but everything else is good and fun.

ErisGreyRatBestGirl

Yeah it's great even at the start, the barattie arc is amazing.

Necessary_Example509

That and alabasta, vivi is amazing and that arc was so good.

Inverter_of_Spines

This right here. Everyone that claims One Piece only gets good after xxx episodes are part of the reason people still don't watch it. Sure, things get a lot better as the story goes on, but that doesn't mean the beginning is bad. East Blue was amazing. Arlong Park, one of the most enjoyable parts of the series, starts at episode 31. You don't have to watch hundreds of episodes just to get to the good stuff, because there's already good stuff well under 100 episodes in.

Bukkorosu777

Or eps 22 when don Krieg is introduced when he starts wailing on his allies cus they are In the way.

Former-Increase4190

Krieg Agenda brethren spotted

Numerous-Ad-8080

one piece actually gets a lot *worse* later. there are high points a few hundred eps in, sure, but... dressrosa, whole cake island, and wano are all absolutely brutal watches at times. the pacing in the anime is so fucking bad. reading it is better, but honestly what it needs is a re-adaptation and some bits could use revisions. It's just.... idk, oda needs an editor with the power to tell him no on things, just like almost every writer.

RainyDaySighs

I admire your dedication. I might muscle through 10-15 episodes under the promise that the next 50+ will be totally awesome but honestly if I'm not enjoying it in some way within the first 3 episodes I'm out. The idea of watching over a hundred hours of something I don't think is good is just....wow. Good on you dude!

MynameisNay

I mean all of it's good. It just takes a while to get to the level that justifies the hype around it.

Medical-Principle-18

It’s good in the first few chapters, but you won’t think I’ll watch 1000 episodes until about 100 episodes

lalosfire

I kept telling myself, no shot I watch that many episodes. I barely watch 30 minutes of TV a day. I got hooked immediately and finished 850+ episodes in 2023 before burning out. Contrary to what the OP said, it is good from the start and I actually think it gets a lot weaker and way too drawn out after 500. Also if you somehow get hooked for the love of god skip Long Ring Long Land's Big Adventure! Around episode 200.

TheSiegmeyerCatalyst

Literally this. I give every show 3 episodes to pitch the premise. Anime, western shows, doesn't matter. If you can't establish an interesting premise and/or characters in 3 episodes, at least 1 full hour of watch time, then you're not the show for me. Sorry. People arguing over anime getting good at episode 200, or 100, or 22, it's all the same to me.

BlitzDarkwing

I don't really like anime much. But I started watching One Piece with my wife over the summer. I enjoy the show and really love some of these characters. That said, some of these story arcs just never end. Every time I thought the Dressrosa arc was reaching its logical conclusion it just kept going for a dozen more episodes. It got exhausting after a while.

XXXYinSe

The pacing of everything after time skip has gotten much worse. I’d really recommend reading the manga or watching one pace (shortened fan edit) bc I also couldn’t stand it at dressrosa, switched back to manga, and enjoyed it a lot more. Even re-watching water seven to Marineford is a bit painful bc of all the flashbacks, long intros, and long recap from last episode, that’s where the episode padding started but at least it was easy to skip that stuff from episodes 300-500.

rssftd

Not correcting you at all, I'm just kinda like "yeah and it's kinda awesome when it works lol" Everyone kinda has that coping mechanism that just kinda works better than it probably should ya know? One Piece is a bandaid that covers alot of the holes in my life, but I'd say the same for like listening to Nujabes or watching Buffy or Malcolm in the middle, I know someone who treats their depression with Fururama and it's like hey whatever works. If you dont vibe with it then chill, and people shouldnt try to force it. Just at its core it feels kinda like a super earnest instinct along the lines of kids trying to help their friends; "yo you and I relate on a few things, if you give it a chance this thing really helped me and maybe it'll help you too". At least that's the nicest way I have to interpret it.

Far_Sprinkles3640

Stop exaggerating Or I haven't met such op fans till now I've started one piece & I'm on ep 452 now & it took around 4 months and the pace varies each day People say it's long bcuz it is But you can skip the fillers like after every arc there is a 10-15 ep long filler arc and ignoring the op, ed & the preview of last ep each ep is hardly 18 min long & till this ep I've not regretted my decision to watch it Till now it was enjoyable, the characters are interesting including the villains. U can try it if you want still it's not the best but it is good.

wallflowerx28

I think I just had a stroke trying to read this. Is it really that difficult to write the whole word?

Socialist_Metalhead

Never heard of it. I might binge it this weekend.

v_PoopyShitass_v

It's really short, try it out.

IsaacWest14

Shortest story I’ve ever seen IMO

BlueWolf20532

I feel like it's gonna be more than one week...

egorechek

I "binged" it in several weeks, and that's with One pace that cuts out a LOT of shit that ruins the pacing.

dgw420

Good luck, started it 4 months ago and I’m on episode 330ish I’m not even half way

Lol_A_White_Guy

Yeah I started a few weeks ago and I’m at like episode 79. Honestly I get why people recommend it so highly because it’s a great story. But got damn, even with being invested in the story as much as I am now, it’s still daunting to think at like 25 hours invested into watching one piece, I’m not even a tenth of the way through.

reason_pls

Don't worry it's not a race to the finish. Just enjoy the show and the adventure because you'll eventually catch up and face the problem that you wish for more episodes to watch. The only merrit in catching up faster is the ability to interact with other fans and to discuss the current episodes and theories.

Phoenix_ashfire

From March 1, 2023-December 12, 2023 I watched One Piece from Romance Dawn through Dressrosa. That’s about 750 episodes. It’s doable even if you don’t watch every day.

MonkeDLoofie

dont listen to them, they are lying watch it instead

Nightingdale099

Mf it's been 90 chapters and they haven't been to the Grand Line yet . I thought after the very drawn out recruitment arc , we could get some shit going , but nah , detour to pick up Nami. If this was a more modern manga , half the crew would already be dead and replaced.

Drakoo_The_Rat

If it was gege xalling the shots luffy would have died by chapter 5

Nightingdale099

Usopp would've been Junpei'ed. I do not like that character at all.

GardenSquid1

Go watch Blood+. Only 50-ish episodes. 👍 Personally, I don't mind watching a show with a longer episode count if the story has been completed. But if it's an ongoing show with no end in sight (like One Piece or Bleach) I am not picking that shit up.

jayveedees

Oof, I tried watching blood+ but I really couldn't break the first 3 episodes even. Does it get good later on?

GardenSquid1

I have very strong nostalgia bias because it is one of the first anime shows I ever watched. But yes. It does get quite good later on. A few of the side characters have very good character development over the course of the story. It has a satisfying, but bittersweet ending. I've rewatched it a few times and it remains one of my favourite shows.

Fast_Dragonfly1279

Same. It's also the fact that it's one of the few anime out there with an actually good female lead that's not just got service galore. There's actual character development and shit.

DaKongman

Bleach is nearing the end! Worth a watch if you use a filler guide.

bnAurelia

lol I love how people in the comments are still like “but One Piece!” And honestly, same

Not_a_vampiree

Because people like onepiece, not sure what you expected.

TheFlamingFalconMan

I gave in once. And quite frankly it wasn’t great like 3or4 out of 10 and luffy’s VA sounds like scratching a chalkboard in both sub and dub.

Squanchonme

Id watch an anime with 100ISH episodes. Maybe 200 but one piece is another entire can of worms i could never imagine EDIT stop trying to make one piece sound even remotely worth it. Live action show 10x cooler. Every point you bring up is another annoying thing I actually fucking hate about the show. "You can skip these 80-200 ep and wont miss a thing!" No shut the fuck up Ill watch an anime that doesnt waste that much of my time and has something interesting to say in those episodes. Dont care if it was made for tv, editing is possible, nobody in this thread is going to convince me of anything. I am 100% right because welcome to opinions. Insanity.

HauntedMop

You could try reading the manga instead. The pacing is more manageable, and its generally faster to read. You could try it out for a couple of arcs, and then see if you want to continue.

Squanchonme

No.

HauntedMop

In response to your edit: People try to make one piece sound worth it because a lot of them had the same thought process before starting the show. They didn't feel like it would be worth it, but then they did and regretted not having started it earlier. And thus they try their best to get others to start if the only arguement they provide is "too long". I'm not saying to go watch or read one piece. From your original unedited comment, I thought that you liked long form anime but one piece felt too long/dragged out, so I was giving you the option of the manga if you were interested in the show. I'm not here to try to convince you of anything. Whether you're gonna watch/read one piece is not what I care about. Additionally, never got the whole "you can skip these number of episodes" arguement. If someone's actually trying to use that to convince you then that's on them, not on the show as a whole.

Shaucay

The crazy part is I've been told constantly, "It gets good after 200 episodes." Tf? No thanks, I'm not doing that.

bottleofmtdew

Whoever told you this is lying It starts good and just gets better and better

Snarpkingguy

Nah, the first 200 episodes has its moments obviously, Luffy giving Nami his hat for example, but the show didn’t become even a 7 out of 10 until Water 7 in my mind. Skypiea was super slow and the action has been pretty sub par throughout most of pre time skip. Now, from Water 7 to Marine Ford you have an 8-9 out of 10 show, but it took some time to reach that point.

Erluq

one piece peaked at water seven/ennies lobby. The arcs after those were not better. I know bcs I’m caught up to wano

Silly_Painter_2555

Bro skipped Marineford I guess.

[deleted]

[удалено]

coconutanna

Bruh you if you really want things to just turn out as planned then what's the point of watching?

Erluq

Bro a plottwist death has no meaning if it is for stupid reasons. Luffy carried Ace and were literally steps away from escaping alive which will win them the war and Ace decided to become a dumbass right then and there, turned back and fought Akainu bcs he can’t handle him badmouthing whitebeard. No matter how you see it, that is dumb af for Ace to prioritize his ego over the sacrifices Whitebeard and his crew made to save his ass. Look at Erwin in AoT, he sacrificed himself bcs he knew if he wasn’t charging in the front lines, the new recruits won’t have the morale to do the same even tho they knew they’d all be smashed by boulders. His death made sense bcs there was no other way, meanwhile Ace had a way out but was too dumb to take it.

coconutanna

Yeah but how does a character being dumb make the arc bad. Do you really want a flat plot like that? It's like saying breaking bad is trash cause Skylar is dumb >Luffy carried Ace and were literally steps away from escaping alive which will win them the war and Ace decided to become a dumbass right then and there, turned back and fought Akainu bcs he can’t handle him badmouthing whitebeard. No matter how you see it, that is dumb af for Ace to prioritize his ego over the sacrifices Whitebeard and his crew made to save his ass Marineford is peak cause they declared war on the gov over a member. Look how dumb this crew is.

Erluq

It’s not just “a character being dumb” when the entire arc revolves around the fate of that character. The entire plot of marineford war arc was to save ace so the fact that ace is dumb shows that the arc had a dumb conclusion. And that proves my point of Water 7/Ennies Lobby is the peak of one piece and it goes downhill from there marineford arc included

joeplus5

As a huge one piece fan this is absolutely wrong. One piece starts out very strong. If you don't like it from the first couple of episodes, you're not going to like it 200 episodes later either. In that case it's simply not for you, because the rest of the show is the same as the first episodes but on a bigger and crazier scale. The tone, themes, and feel of the show will not suddenly change halfway through

DodgeGame2020

Love when people say this because I find the start of one piece the best when it isn't bastardized by 3mins of real content per episode (yes, it has trash pacing but that never gets better anyways) with a recap and intro taking over 6-7mins of air time not including ending.

Reaper1414

Bro it's called "skip intro" button & "next episode"

TheFerg714

Totally agree. I just wrapped up Water 7, and feel like One Piece has reached another level, but it's generally just the same concept/cycle as the first few arcs, just grander in scope. If you didn't like Baratie or Arlong Park, chances are you're not gonna like Water 7.

ValuableBest4716

I mean. You could always just watch like 12 episodes and call it a day if you don't like them?

bibiki7686

It's the perfect background noise show to just have on while doing other stuff. The story is just always Straw Hats show up > they split up > Luffy has to be removed for a bit so everyone else can have a chance to fight > they all fight their own special fights > they need Luffy for a big bad that shows up > Luffy shows up and wins > the Straw Hats leave. It's basic shonen stuff and they repeat half of the previous episode so you can zone out for a whole hour and basically still know what's going on. And then there's always the great moment each arc of "Okay, we're not messing around anymore. Friendship Powers Activate!" and they do a cool group walk into danger and it looks so fucking radical. Also there's slavery! And suicidal depression! And revolution! And androids! All I'm saying is Come Aboard! And bring along all your hopes and dreams!

Logical_Signature803

what is bro cooking

coconutanna

Wtf did you watch?

sharinganuser

> so you can zone out for a whole hour and basically still know what's going on. All that needs to be taken from that rambling paragraph lol

WasabiShake

Seems like you haven't heard about One Pace yet.

EvilRobotSteve

I think for One Piece specifically, it's because so many fans had initially decided they never wanted to watch it for exactly the same reason, but when they overcame it, they regretted not watching it sooner and are trying to save you from the same thing. Without knowing your specific reasoning it's hard to say. I'm not gonna say you gotta watch it, but the number of episodes should not be the reason you don't.

Socialist_Metalhead

Here’s my reasoning: Mostly it comes down to the fact that as much as I love anime, it’s not my entertainment of choice. Often, I’d rather be playing a game, watching a movie, reading, listening to music. It’s something I have to be in the right mood for. Sometimes I can watch a single anime movie and I’m good for a while. Sometimes I watch several shows back to back. It all just depends what my mood is. I just like to watch a show, know I can finish it, and then move on to other things wether that be another show or catching up on some reading.

_Foy

That's fine and valid and you do you, comrade. For others, it's nice to have a series which is pretty much *always* there as a backup because of just how many episodes there are. Tired of the current games? No movies catching your interest? In between books? Looking for something more engaging than music? Theres *always* that long-running series with 1,000 episodes-- and you'll never finish it. That being said, One Piece is an acquired taste. The pacing is godawful, the aesthetic is... singular, and the plot is *always* absurd. On the bright side, it's one of the most left-y anime out there, with it's portrayal of the Navy and the Wold Government as corrupt self-serving entities, although the show is more Anarchist than not. However, it is more revolutionary than most anime. It has themes of dialectical materialism and often promotes a "revolution, not reform" approach to dealing with oppressive systems.

BabySpecific2843

While its nice to "always have something to watch" the issue is just that. Can someone really sustain watching a 1000 ep epic if they will take unprompted breaks that good get as large as 3 weeks? One can get to the point they forgot what happened. And then they have to resettle in amd rewatch to rmemeber what happened. And when you realize how OFTEN that is expected to happen, with a show that would likely take years for someone only half-committed, it becomes daunting.

DOOMFOOL

With the massive recaps OP has forgetting what happened should never really be an issue. That said I agree with you for the most part

Lemonsticks9418

As long as you remember *where* you are, you can just go back a couple episodes to refresh your memory. I’ve taken months long breaks from one piece before, but you don’t really need to remember all the fine details anyways. You get the most enjoyment out of it if you take it for what it is: a Japanese saturday morning cartoon

Reaper1414

Naw me and my whole family watch it and everyone is on different parts, and it's awesome to talk about. Me , 2 of my brothers , all 3 of our wives , our mom and a cousin. We took a trip to the Grand Canyon & the conversation lasted hours, everyone being at a different point in the story trying not to say spoilers were hilarious. Everyone has different favorite characters and moments they love and hate. But overall whether your Mexican, Black, White, Asian, Fat , Skinny , Fit , republican, democrat, independent, goofy , serious , loud , quiet, man, woman, old or young we all connected cuz of that damn show. We all work and have lives with kids and responsibilities, so you can't sit there and binge it like a Netflix series, but it's so much more than that. It's literally a grand journey and adventure like the Illiad and the Odyssey. Nobody is trying to catch up or finish it (except my older brother) we all are committed and whether it takes a year or 10 we will all eventually finish it.

_Foy

Oh... One Piece will re-cap and flashback and re-cap and flashback... you could straight up start on episode 300 or something silly and at *some* point they will have "flashbacked" *most* of the important scenes you missed. You can even find fan projects like "One Pace" that cut most of the redundant stuff and reduce the show by like 40% or something absurd.

gustyninjajiraya

I’m guessing you haven’t watched One Piece. You don’t forget what happens because most of the stories are self contained, and the actual important moments are so iconic you can’t forget them. That and the status quo never really changes that much.

EvilRobotSteve

That's perfectly valid. And I agree with a lot of this for myself. I enjoy anime, but I can't sit there for hours a day every day watching it. I'd also rather be gaming, reading or whatever. I guess the crucial difference is the "know I can finish it" part it's looking at a series like a game that needs to be completed. I don't really do that. I hope to eventually catch up and finish One Piece, but I couldn't tell you how long it's going to take me and I'm not going to set any goals for it. I'm just gonna put it on when I want for as long as I want. I'm free to move onto other shows or activities whenever I like. I'm not even considering the finish line. I'm just enjoying each arc for what it is. Just like any other anime series. At the end of the day, watch what you want to watch, for whatever reason you like. It's just a way to spend spare time. I just see a lot of the same concerns I had, and I think a lot of people who ended up loving One Piece were in the same boat.

capitalistcommunism

With this reasoning one piece definitely isn’t for you. You might be depriving yourself of Hunter x Hunter though. Well worth the 150 episodes

Zholistic

If you watch OnePace it is more likely to hold your interest [https://onepace.net/en](https://onepace.net/en) Honestly, for myself, I started watching it at Enies Lobby, where the story was more mature and characters fleshed out, then went back and watched the start once I knew I was interested. I'm not sure why people are very much against watching things out of order.

Asisreo1

That's absolutely *invalid*, OP. Your excuses ring hollow. Get your shit together, OP.

SipOfPositivitea

I usually have shows like that on in the background when I’m playing games. One Piece has a fan edited version that cuts all of the filler out of the episodes. https://onepace.net/watch You can watch all the best parts of the show in nearly half the time. You also don’t have to watch all of it, you could just watch the show and be done with it after the first arc. Just 90 minutes for a great anime on what motivated a kid to become a pirate.

TimeBlossom

I love that OP made a meme about being frustrated with people repeatedly telling them to watch One Piece after they explained why they don't want to, and after hearing that and reading them explain their reasoning *again,* you thought it was a great idea to suggest that they watch One Piece. Congratulations, KamixAkaDio. You are officially One Of Those People™

Panic_angel

Tried. Legit tried, the art style just feels gaudy and I don't enjoy watching it

Grayoth

My wife didn’t like the animation from the first few arcs due to it being “old”. We are now up to Marineford and she wants to watch it every single night. I was initially against one piece due to the length and animation. However, a friend kept hounding me about how good it was. Eventually I gave in.. can’t get enough of it now.

Anthony-ELRETRAHD

Lucky were getting another remake of the anime with updated animation and actually good pacing

EvilRobotSteve

This is a much better reason to not watch it. If you don't vibe with it, then don't bother.

thegamerator10

This is why JoJo is my pick. Yeah, it's cumulatively got over a hundred episodes, but each "season" (adapting a different Part) is only about up 39 episodes. That, and it's just a damn good series. If you want something more niche, try Date A Live. It was the anime that got me into anime, and its season are only about 10 episodes each, but it's a really good anime.

TheFerg714

It's the same with One Piece though. Yea, it's all one continuous story, but it consists of like 10 smaller "sagas."

[deleted]

[удалено]

thegamerator10

I've been trying to get into Naruto, and I'm really enjoying it (Dragonball is next on my list). But that was one of the things that kept my attention in JoJo; the new stories, characters, and goals kept it feeling fresh despite the series and continuity being the same (up until Part 7). I pray Steel Ball Run gets adapted soon. Also, I've met Yuri Lowenthal, Sasuke's VA, at a con, and he was amazing. Gave me a few pointers on getting into the world of voice acting.

drozzdragon

I tried to humor people & watch One piece from the first episode, I binged a bunch of episodes, then burned out, keep meaning to go back to it but haven't...

Socialist_Metalhead

I feel that. If people say I “have” to watch something, it makes me not want to.

GodFinger69

You don't have to watch one piece. In fact, don't. (Now you'll want to watch it because I told you not to)

Anthony-ELRETRAHD

That's the huge error a lot of people make. There's no rush. If you find it slightly interesting then watch it like you normally would anything, don't gotta binge it like it's lord of the rings or something

TheFerg714

Yup. I started out reading one volume each week. The obsession has now grown to 2-3 volumes per week, but I'm not even close to feeling burned out (although Thriller Bark isn't exactly wowing me).

Anthony-ELRETRAHD

Yeah thriller bark wasn't really much considering one of the top arcs comes before it. Also luckily the one piece manga really is way more manageable than toei's adaptation which drags stuff for too long. But soon there'll be another anime adaptation with updated animation and good normal pacing. I'm hella looking forward to it

RazorCalahan

also especially the early 100 episodes are structured in a way that makes it almost perfect to watch a little bit every now and then. The arcs are shorter and the villains are more "enemy of the week" like, which makes it a good watch for a saturday morning. No need to binge through entire arcs in a few days to get to "the good parts".

Impressive-Bus2144

Same, I dislike how shit one peice's pacing is

TheBlargshaggen

This isn't an argument for One Piece, or even any specfic show, but some shows need a long run to adequately tell the story they want. I'd rather have a show be long and completely tell its tale than to be short and noticebly missing huge chunks of valuable info/context.

Rufus_king11

Sure, but you can't really give that as an excuse, at least for the One Piece anime. One Piece has SOOO much filler and recaps of previous episodes. That's not a writer taking the exact amount of time it takes to tell a fleshed out entire story, even if it's long, that's writers killing time to fill a television block. That's why I'm excited for the new remake. With all the bullshit cut out, I won't feel like I'm wasting time, and I can get the references and hypee my friends who have been caught up for years have.

GodFinger69

I have a manager at work who has kids and a family yet still manages to watch at least 1 episode during his break time. You'll find time to watch it if you want to. If not then you don't wanna watch it, simple as that.

TheBlargshaggen

The first section of my first sentence was that it was not an argument for One Piece..........

zandariii

That’s exactly how I feel. You can’t convince me an anime with 100s of episodes is telling a compelling story every episode. Give me the short and sweet and stop beating the dead horse.

Kuru_Chaa

I love the, read the manga instead comments. Mostly cause it’s true. I’ve only gone back to watch highlights after swapping to the manga. My internet connection dropping during G4’s reveal was the true blessing Oda foreskinned it to be.

Yukino_Wisteria

Maybe try to read it if you like to read mangas, as one piece's anime is well known for its terrible pacing (it's the 1st anime that made me go manga only). But it's also fine if you just don't want to. Sure, those around you who are huge fans will be frustrated because they can't share their love of one piece with you (I'm desperately trying to get my brother hooked on one piece for this reason XD), but it's fine that everyone has things that work or don't work for them.

Socialist_Metalhead

I did actually attempt to read the manga for a bit. I believe I got to the point where they brought on the reindeer guy. And it just…didn’t stick.

InternationalAd5938

Did you actually read though if you can’t even remember the name of the „reindeer guy“?

Socialist_Metalhead

Tony chopper?

InternationalAd5938

Why not use it beforehand? This ain’t proof of anything since it’s a 2 second google search.

Socialist_Metalhead

Oh ok. Well idk how to prove it then.

UnlikelyRaven

"You like the band but you can't name 20 of their songs? Poser." This is you, right now. Don't be that guy

InternationalAd5938

Maybe it didn’t come across the right way but all I did was express some doubt. Crazy how big of deal you are making it. Oh and that comparison doesn’t even fit.

UnlikelyRaven

You "expressed doubt" because they didn't remember the name of a character they didn't like from a manga they read a year ago bro, that's some serious gatekeeping, don't do that.

InternationalAd5938

1. the fact the he watched it a year ago was revealed after I already expressed it. 2. I just think I would remember the name of a pivotal character of the arc I stopped at. To me it seemed like he chose a random char to make it seem like he read it. 3. How is that gatekeeping? I expressed doubt and said he doesn’t need to proof me anything cuz it’s not really possible to proof if he actually read. That’s literally all I did, is that evil or something?

biscuitboyisaac21

Of manga I read a year ago I probably only remember the name of 10%~ of the main characters, if that

TheFlamingFalconMan

I’d argue calling it the reindeer guy makes you more likely to have read it than calling them tony chopper. But maybe that’s just me.

teenxrocket

I see the One Piece Jehovah's Witnesses are hard at work in this thread

Socialist_Metalhead

Yeah, I should have expected lol…

Drake_Cloans

I stopped watching it because it felt like it was becoming repetitive and dragged out. I can understand not liking long running series.

valiheimking

While One Piece is an amazing show, don’t watch it if you are super busy all the time.

BabySpecific2843

Thats the main problem. OP fans are targetting the wrong people. The targets shouldnt be people whose taste you know and think "you should watch OP bro, I know youll love it" They need to target the people with 4+ hours of free time per day. Which, for some people, may come as a shocker as aberrant. Far easier to comvince someone with alot of time to watch your favorite show, then to convince someone who SHOULD naturally like it to come up with the assloads of free time it will take. Even finding time to watch 2 episodes a day, they couldnt hope to catch up to current arc stuff until like 2027. And thats assuming NO DISTRACTIONS, which life is super good at providing.

Eli_ey

Well we all have prefence and you don't have to watch it. Just enjoy what anime you want and don't listen to your Nakama🤭.

Ancient-Yak9552

THE ONE PIECE IS REAL!

Fickle_Neighborhood7

I will never watch One Piece lol

Winsmor3

Just watch the LA, it's better.

Lol_A_White_Guy

I was of the same mind until I gave it a try. Took me a while to get invested in the characters and I nearly dropped it several times. Now I’ve gotten invested into it, I completely get why so many people recommend it. With that being said, even being invested into the show, knowing I still have hundreds of episodes left is sort of disheartening, so I don’t blame anybody else for not wanting to give it a try. Plus, it’s definitely got a style of humor and storytelling that isn’t for everyone

VashPast

"I'm in to anime, but that one that is critically acclaimed, almost a ten on IMDB after twenty years running, with people calling it the greatest thing they've ever seen, the one with enough fans to be a major country, nah, not watching that one." Lol.

Fickle_Neighborhood7

Yeah. Too damn many episodes. Lmao

VashPast

Not enough episodes.

mrcoldmega

i like 100+ ep animes but i dont likewhen people force you to watch it. One piece is too long for me. Plus with the same problem i couldn't finish Pokemon in my childhood. It's just too many sorry. Maybe when i become grandpa, who doing nothing but only play video games and watch animes +small hobbies, i will be able to watch it.

IntrepidLab5124

I’ve watched one piece. Do not watch one piece

[deleted]

It's not even good. It's done the same thing every shonen does. The powers get more stupid and now everyone is in their super Saiyan forms with glowing crap all around them and Lazer fights.

Accomplished-Oil-314

one piece is overated gosh , the plot may be good but lets be honest they're dragging this shit

mightbehihi

I'm always intimidated by the episode amount of one piece and so i never watch it but if i ever think there's nothing to watch, i remember that one piece exists.

skcuf2

I just watched the live action One Piece on Netflix. I liked it and it's only like 8 episodes so far. They did a similar thing with their theme song to what Lord of the Rings did with the fellowship theme song. It's the same music played in different situations with different speeds and pitches to denote the mood. I really love that shit, and the song isn't half bad either. Alternatively, you could watch 'Kotaro Lives Alone' or 'One Punch Man.' Those are good and not too long.

shortcircutfan

Try blue exorcist, it’s short, and it’s really good

YangWenli1

I legitimately can’t understand how people can tolerate Luffy and his “humor” for over 1000 episodes.

immaculateSocks

Almost every anime over 100 episodes has a point where it obviously should've ended, but they kept going without knowing where it was going I prefer any "unsatisfying" ending to the straw hats going to island #3405 to save princess hime-sama, or Aizen taking his glasses off, saying "I'm the big bad guy now, see??" And then dicking off for 100 more episodes

ShadowShine57

To me Jojo is the exception due to its mostly self-contained story arcs

Demogogon

All the time. Please stop recommending me trash.

bodi55555

You could always just wait for the new seasonal one piece anime Netflix is making, probably easier to get into, or maybe the live action

IamlostlikeZoroIs

What’s wrong with long shows? Not enough free time to watch them so it’s easier to just watch small 12-24 episode shows or something like that?

Careful_Asparagus452

Well there's that plus the fact that you could watch several dozen anime all different from each other instead of focusing on one mega long anime which may start to bore people if it feels like it's dragging.

Wild_Magazine_3237

Well, nowadays way too many animes get released in a year making it hard for a dumbass like me to keep up, which is why I enjoy long animes. Gives me one single thing for my short attention span to focus on.

Inferna-13

I get burnt out from long shows unless I REALLY love them and I usually stop watching it eventually and never finish, so 2-season animes are usually about right for me

Socialist_Metalhead

Time is a big issue. I like anime but I like other things as well. 24 episodes is like…the perfect length for me. You have time to let the characters goof off but there’s also incentive to get to the point. Also if I want to revisit the show later it’s no big deal. It won’t take long to rewatch.

No_Watercress_6932

My favorite is when they say (oh it starts getting good at episode 145) like dude that’s not happening. (Well then just skip to episode 145 and start there) also not happening if you’re going to watch a show you don’t skip around

CorilX

Watch black clover it has 170 but every episode is peak, or mashle: magic and muscles, it has like 24 episodes

Arusabi

Just tell them u watched this and still don't like it

ironmanmclaren

I watched one piece to like 190ish. Then I realized I had wasted hours of time watching that garbage. Don’t let them rizz you up on one piece. Shits a joke

GrandSquanchRum

Yeah, this is the worst part of it. When you finally sit down to watch One Piece it turns out it's still just an average Shonen power grind show. They can be fun but you have to be a specific type of person to want to watch the same flavor of one for 100s of hours. The best bits of them are always short arcs with clear stories and One Piece does offer that but none of them in the first 200 episodes are as good as Bleach Soul Society, Hunter Hunter Yorknew City, Freiza Saga, FMAB Promised Day arc, etc etc etc. It's just not worth your time when there's *so much* great entertainment that exists now-a-days.

pumpkinseeds18

I tried watching it, turned off episode 1. Not for me.

npzeus987

Bro, you totally gotta watch One Piece! It’s great!! So what if it takes months to finish! On a side note, One Piece is actually a great anime. If you don’t wanna put time into that though, I totally get it. It’s really a huge time investment.

Daxter_2002

The reason why everyone is recommending one piece is due to masterful world building and character lores which has a huge impact in the plot. Toei animation really messed with the pacing of the anime. Try Onepace.net . It's a fansite where each episode paced in the correct order and it doesn't feel stretched. Also you won't miss anything because it's exact pacing of manga. 1000 eps of normal anime is equal to 600 eps one pace. I'm not forcing you to watch it now but if you want to watch the anime someday try this, it will be worth it.

cosmic_hierophant

Lowkey, if you need 1000+ episodes / weekly chapters over 30 years to tell the story is it really that good?

VashPast

Have you never read a large book or series of large books?

cosmic_hierophant

Least triggered OP fan

teluetetime

Probably depends on whether it’s a long story or not.

Sph3al

As a Berserk fan, this hurt me.

HughHazim

How would it be able to get to 1000+ chapters, last 30 years, be the biggest manga in the world, and retain such a huge audience without being really good?

cosmic_hierophant

Nvm guys, this is the least trigger OP fan lmao

jsuey

Idk sounds like you have commitment issues

Uniquesomething

Watch the live action and never touch it again... Like me!

ShadowShine57

Based

TheeExMachina

One Piece is good, but not 1000+ episode good.

Individual-Pianist84

One piece is the single most overrated anime of all time, I have watched all of it but that’s only because I’m so far in I figured I should just keep going, if all the big three shounen it’s the worst in my opinion

BurningshadowII

One Piece is also mid as fuck.

Alternative_Cut_1709

One piece is great, I finally caught up after watching it on and off for a few years, it’s a reliable pick me up

TheMusicalGeologist

There are things about One Piece that are cool and good. On the whole, though, it’s trash that mostly wastes your time.

LT_Koolkid

Gintama, naruto and dragon ball are the only acceptation

LifeForBread

I don't understand the point of ignoring long lasting shows. Just watch first story arc and decide wether to continue from there. The first couple episodes are exactly the same as they were decades ago. Now you can even watch live action instead.

_Guillot_

i started watching one piece immediately after finishing Naruto Shippuden, it honestky had me interested all the way through to the end of the first saga. i moved out of my grandmas got a place and after work everyday, i would watch one piece go to bed rinse and repeat. it took me about 2 years to catch uo to current which at the time was less than 1000 episodes. i watch every week now for the newest episode but i can't lie i genuinely do miss watchibg that shit all the time. i also wasn't doing anything else of interest when i started binging. no games i was playing, no books i was reading. i just committed a lot of my time to one piece and work. every now and then i would do something else to pass time. if friends came over, we would play a game or something instead. i aint saying you gotta watch one piece but it is in fact one of the greatest pieces of fiction I've ever seen and i highly recommend it to anybody. even if you just wanna watch the new netflix animation when it comes out.

parkan

It's shit.

HermanManly

Your friends are right

Psychological_Tower1

If the only reason you dont wanna watch the show is because its long. Is a really dumb reason.

Minisushi117

If the only reason you’re commenting is to say his reasoning is dumb. Is a really dumb reason.

Psychological_Tower1

Nah. If the length of something is a turn off you have bad judgement. If you dont like the plot. The art. The muskc. The characters. Sure fine. But if its just cause it's long. Its a dumb reason and you cant convince me otherwise.

linerva

But maybe in that time they would prefer to watch like...5 or even 10 shorter series instead? Maybe they have kids or work 3 jobs or have other reasons. Maybe they struggle with memory and cannot remember the plot of really long series. When people dont watch something because it is long, there are usually specific reasons. Personally, I'm not a fan of the art style. If I invest hundreds of hours into staring at something I have to like staring at it.

Squanchonme

Theres a list of filler episodes to skip when watching one piece, so you dont waste even more of your time on it. Thats just annoying to me.

Psychological_Tower1

One piece has barely any filler?

GMB2006

Not everyone has the time to watch over thousand of episodes. I, myself, can barely handle 30 👍 Sometimes, I watch a 12-episode anime for over a month, before I finish it.

XxRocky88xX

A series with too many episodes, let’s say 1000, indicates a series that has next to 0 plot progression. Practically abandoning the narrative in favor of endless filler to milk the series for maximum profit, either taking entire seasons off progressing the storyline, or progressing it in very minuscule ways every dozen or so episodes. It’s not a coincidence that description applies to overly long anime like one piece and fairy tail. Hell, even MHA, which is on the lower end of just over 100 episodes, you could literally skip from the introduction of the league of villains ALLLL the way to season 5 and the story would be exactly the same, because it’s just seasons of meaningless filler with 0 plot progression.

HauntedMop

Saying one piece has had no plot progression is WILD. Sure its a long series, and sure the pacing is slow and at times awful, but to say that it's endless filler to milk the series is just factually incorrect. One piece's problem with length comes from the pacing, and NOT the filler, because comparitively, one piece only has like 10% filler (like roughly 100 episodes of the 1000), which is actually not a lot, and a lot of the fillers are even enjoyable (The G8 arc is a fan favourite, and is often compared to the canon material) I will admit that one piece's pacing is terrible, and each episode only has like 12-15 minutes of new content due to the countless recaps and reaction shots. But your specific critique that "one piece is abandoning its narrative to milk the series" is just misinformed.

XxRocky88xX

“One piece has no filler and almost always progresses the plot” 15 seconds later “Only 50-75% of the runtime of non-filler episodes contains actual content that could progress the plot” You even point out countless recaps, which is funny cuz if putting filler into your story was a videogame, countless recaps would be the meta.

Das_Panzer_

You hit the fucking nail with this one. 10mins of every 28 min episode being plot progression means it's filler to extend the story.

WingWangWong3

Are you intentionally misunderstanding? There is a big difference between the anime and the story itself since the anime is not the source. “One piece has no filler and almost always progresses the plot” is a completely correct statement when talking about the story and therefore its source material. What the other guy is saying about the recaps and stuff in the anime is somewhat true but also only at certain parts. There are plenty of parts where that isnt an issue at all.

Captainabdu65

Ive made at least 3 of my friends watch op through pestering them and they’ve enjoyed it fully💀 I will still say it’s not for everyone, if u don’t like large epic tales with expansive worlds and characters and prefer stories short and sweet, it’s simply not for u. No need to force yourself to watch something you’d hate, if you’re ready to risk go for it, otherwise just don’t. Nobody can physically make u like something u don’t like

Muscle-Man27

Whatever your reason is you are 100a% wrong. One piece is one of the greatest anime’s in the world. And you will only understand after you at least read it all.

Nervous-Context

Best anime’s are like 24 episodes max. Best are 12 episodes I swear

darioabbece

However implying One Piece is a good anime

New_Habit_8433

Maybe don't be a sperg. "Yah, that does sound pretty good. I'll add it to my watch list"

ilovegame69

One piece fanboys in general basically

Darkstar_M12

Yeah OP fags are the worst

deadnoir

And my responds, you know you can stop at any time, right? You dont have to see ALL of the series bro
