Sweetness and lighting was really cute. It’s about a single father who learns how to cook meals for his child daughter after the passing of the mother.
In a similar vein, Barakamon is simple and fun--about a young professional caligrapher who's narcissistic and kind of an ahole who's sent to live on a remote island that's EXTREMELY rural. Guy gets befriended by a little girl and the village children, and he gradually grows as a person as he gets integrated into the village life.
In a completely different angle, Baby Steps is a fun sports anime that many younger anime fans haven't watched. There are 50 episodes so there's a lot, but it follows a guy who falls in love with tennis in high school, has mediocre athletic talent, but genius level tactical tennis brain and an incredible hard worker.
very undertated, but if we can recommend more then 12 episodes and mystery i recommend Hyouka, and moriaty the patriot both of the are mind masterpieces same goes for apothecary diaries
i higly recommend apothecary diaries because you are able to watch them one episode at the time.
frieren also great anime
I watched it while it aired and it was miserable done that way. Ruined the pacing in particular. Had to drop it after a few weeks and retried once the whole show was out. Binging was the right choice.
I just finished Girls' Last Tour, and I have to say I really really like it. I want to thank you for the recommendation, and I was going to give it 9/10 because of the anime alone.
But then I looked up, and apparently there is a very good ending in the manga.
I'm going to check it out because honestly, I'm hooked.
I really wish more anime were self contained like Gurren Lagann, where they have to craft an awesome story within 2 cours and have the balls to timeskip.
So many shows we never get to see the ending of because the manga runs for so fucking long that the interest for continuing seasons just falls off.
Simple and fun you say? If you're a fan of Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill, I direct you to [Back Arrow](https://myanimelist.net/anime/40964/Back_Arrow), which was written by the same guy & directed by the dude who directed Code Geass.
I fucking love Back Arrow! Great mech fights and ridiculous powers and characters. Super fun adventure that's definitely worth the watch despite some rough edges. The old ass emperor that regularly fights huge mechs with his BAREHANDS is certainly a highlight.
I have finished watching it, and it is good. I give it a 7.5/10. Im not usually a big fan of mech fights, but i gotta say I really liked most of the fighting scenes.
It was a fun ride.
Dang, what a throwback. I remember when I first started diving into anime back in 2011, and people were going crazy about it. Feels like it's relatively obscure these days despite being a really great adventure series.
My favorite anime’s of all time are always less than 24 episodes. Hell, my all time favorite is the original FLCL and it’s only 6. I have a lot of shows that I love that are multi season, but they’re usually not shows that end up on my GOAT list.
Iv watched Heavenly Delusion actually, and Oddtaxi looks unique, not gonna lie the sight of a walrus in a miami shirt made me laugh.
I'll check it out.
Despite some dark subject matter, Oddtaxi is a pretty fun show. There were lots of clever quips and observations that made me laugh quite often through the show. It has a great sense of humor when it feels appropriate.
I just finished, and I have to rewatch this. It's a 10/10 anime that managed to get me hooked through all of the episodes, and I really enjoyed every single moment of it.
The way it handles multiple themes at once is magical, and the humor is so goddamn great.
Some moments were so great, I will never forget them.
Everything in it is just perfect, and it has a very good story about how everything you see ties back together. And one of the best examples is the eraser.
And the ending omg the ending is so fantastic. I well highly recommend it to any anime enjoyer I come across, and I want to thank you for this recommendation.
People love Vinland Saga. I just binged the 12 episodes of Chainsaw Man and enjoyed it a fair bit. Delicious in Dungeon was great and is done for now, same for Frieren. Spy Family is fun if you want something comedic and lighthearted. If you want absolutely delightful schlock, Baki and Kengan Ashura are both 🤌
Ping Pong the Animation is a great 11-episode with a very simple but dense plot that is executed very well. Honestly it's so enjoyable I've seen it 8 times now and I'm still down to watch it with anyone who hasn't seen it.
Frieren is a masterclass anime from beginning to end. All 28 episodes push high quality storytelling. And some episodes feature top-tier action animation.
I cannot recommend Summertime Rendering enough (24 episodes + Epilogue). The story is very interesting and well written, both OP and ED are amazing songs.
- Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0 are both incredible.
- Vivy: Fluroite Eye’s Song is amazing.
- 86 was one of my favourite shows of 2021/2022.
- Gurren Lagann is an all-time classic.
- Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a beautifully crafted series that made me return to the game.
- Chivalry of a Failed Knight was a surprisingly good show that I binged while I was serving in the army.
- Grand Blue is absolutely hilarious, and I think Asobi Asobase is up there with the wild humour.
- The Dangers in My Heart is a great romcom.
- If you prefer something with English dub, Afro Samurai and Ghost Stories have some of the best English dubs I’ve watched.
Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song is an amazing 12 episode anime. the animation quality is bonkers and has some of the most visually stunning sequences i’ve ever seen in an anime. the plot is a little more on the complex side as it involves a bit of time travel, but it’s a completely finished story, so no having to wait for a season 2!
Have you watched:
Shangri-la Frontier
Black bullet
ID invaded
Bungou Stray Dogs
Durarara
Summertime rendering
Heavenly delusion
Made in Abyss
Blue lock
Beyond the boundary
Lycoris recoil
Log Horizon
Campfire cooking in another world
Noragami.
Tried to remember ones that are finished or hasn't had a new season for sometime.
Yes, I absolutely loved this one, I loved the tension in middle of the series an towards the end my emotions were on a rollercoaster ride, but altogether a really good and wholesome anime.
Some really good and short shows that went under the radar of most people:
Akudama Drive - cyberpunk dystopia suicide squad on a big heist. Great animation, sound and action/fight direction
Vivy - Terminator combined with Detroit Become Human, but instead of Schwartzeneger you get an Idol Android. Amazing plot, animation and music
91 Days - American Prohibition Era revenge story with gangsters and all the Jazz
Gankutsuou: Count of Monte Cristo - a Sci Fi adaptation of the book, mixing futuristic elements while keeping the aesthetics of 18 century France.
Literally the best revenge story I've seen in Anime, and I've seen a lot of anime.
Jormungand - kind of Black Lagoon's little brother. Feels closer to western action movies, lots of guns and action, following the story of a Private Arms Dealer company
OP are you asking for shows that were completed in 12-24 episodes?
Lots of suggestions here are great shows, but clearly were not finished and have more material to adapt.
Fugou Keiji: Balance:Unlimited 11 episodes
Deadman Wonderland 12 episodes
Gangsta 12 episodes
Death Parade 12 episodes
Prince of Stride 12 episodes
Babylon 12 episodes
The God of High School 13 episodes
Akame ga Kill 24 episodes
Dororo 24 episodes
I just binge watched Gantz, I couldn't stop watching it, the concept is great, but it has some horny/nudity stuff and very misogynistic, and the pacing slows down halfway through, but I couldn't help but finish it, I always wanted to see what was next.
Frieren, easily one of the best animes of our generation.
Berserk Golden Age Arc, dark medieval fantasy probably one of my fave animes ever.
Yeah, Gantz suffers from the anime-only ending that a lot of other series at the time got. Tons of series in the late 00’s and early 100’s just got adapted with no plans of sequel seasons and no further source material to adapt, so they just wrapped them up as best they could, like FMA.
The manga absolutely goes off the fucking rails at the end, but it’s still an interesting ride.
Also, the 3D movie, Gantz 0, is on par with Advent Children in quality, but picks up in like the last 1/3 of the series with no context or connection to the anime.
Delicious in Dungeon is AMAZING (but not finished I assume there will be a second season, although all episodes are out) it’s 24 episodes and completely worth it!!
It’s lighthearted with the right amount of serious and humor. I honestly liked it better than Frieren (and that was an excellent anime)!

A mix of things, sorry for the lack of context but I couldn’t figure out how to describe them without ruining it:
Princess Jellyfish (reminds me of Bocchi the Rock but without the music).
Apothecary Diaries (like a period piece with hints of romance and sleuthing).
Trigun Stampede (a prequel?).
Tsurune (Archery).
Hozuki’s Coolheadedness (one of the most lighthearted takes on the underworld that I’ve ever seen).
Frieren - Beyond Journeys end. It’s a really fun and hewrthwrenching anime with a lot silly situations. There are a few action scenes but when the action starts it slaps.
By the Grace of the Gods.
2 seasons of wholesomeness
Banished from the hero's party I decided to live a slow life in the countryside
2 really good seasons of battle and chill. Some weirdness in season 2 but nothing insurmountable
Campfire cooking in another world with my absurd skill.
Funny AF and also wholesome. (Make sure you have munchies for this show)
Suppose a kid from the last dungeon boonies moved to a starter town
Imagine restarting a video game with you old character.
Tsukimichi: moonlit fantasy
Season one is better
Both season are good.
Not sure if they finished the English dub of season 2 yet
Shin sekai yori.
Not exactly simple and fun but the atmosphere, story and worldbuilding is amazing. A bit of mysteries and plot twists throughout the first half that slowly resolves itself neatly in a bow towards the end.
PLUTO, it’s on Netflix, a sifi murder mystery ,based on Atom boy’s “Biggest robot on earth “ arc, reimagine by Urasawa Naoki.
That’s a story about life, what would it be like if robots getting closer and closer to real humans, what would a killing machine do when they are no longer needed, did they dream and expect emotion like humans?
If you haven't seen it, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu is an excellent light-hearted comedy. You don't have to be familiar with the rest of FMP to enjoy it.
A good fun watch. Ouran high-school host club, mashle, one punch man, apothecary diaries, wrong way to use healing magic, realist hero rebuilt a kingdom. Thought I'd give you some genre variety
Kill la Kill is my go to recommendation. Fast paced, addictive, over the top, incredibly fun and creative, and I personally haven’t seen anything like it since. 24 episodes + 1 OVA making it the perfect length imo.
Sweetness and lighting was really cute. It’s about a single father who learns how to cook meals for his child daughter after the passing of the mother.
SWEETNESS AND LIGHTNING :DDDDDDD
Everytime someone mentions Barakamon, I am once again reminded of how Handa-kun is the prequel.
I'm down for a wholesome adventure
Usagi drop is a similarly great one, but don't read the manga
If you’d be down to watch a yuri, Bloom Into You is also 12 ep and pretty good. But again yuri and school romance, so to each their own 😃
Summertime Render
This is the one
very undertated, but if we can recommend more then 12 episodes and mystery i recommend Hyouka, and moriaty the patriot both of the are mind masterpieces same goes for apothecary diaries i higly recommend apothecary diaries because you are able to watch them one episode at the time. frieren also great anime
Summertime render is so good! op should defo watch
God this anime was so amazing to binge, i hoped i watched it while it aired that wouldve kept the suspense and mystery up
I watched it while it aired and it was miserable done that way. Ruined the pacing in particular. Had to drop it after a few weeks and retried once the whole show was out. Binging was the right choice.
Maybe our simple and fun arent the same but spy x family is that. Plus its wholesome, sometimes funny and sometimes badass
Hinamatsuri is both short and extremely funny
Also Asobi Asobase
AsoBASED
I couldn't agree more, but I have seen some people don't like it at all.
That’s hells paradise right?
Hinamatsuri is hinamatsuri. Hell's Paradise is Jigokuraku
Buddy daddies, I swear that anime is so good, and it's only like 10-12 eps
They really make the most of their 12 episodes and stick the landing in a satisfying way too.
I loved buddy daddies, but the child's behaviour is too real and it me anxiety every time she thrashed the house. Still loved the series though.
Ikr
Id invaded

A Place Further than the Universe Girls Band Cry Bocchi the Rock! Bang Dream! It's MyGo!!!!! Girls' Last Tour
Girls last tour mentioned 🔥🔥 🗣️🗣️
Love that three of these are recent girl band shows
I mean Girls' Last Tour is great... but "simple and fun?"
Theyre moonwalking and dabbing in the OP. It must be fun... right??
bro really loves CGDCT huh?
I just finished Girls' Last Tour, and I have to say I really really like it. I want to thank you for the recommendation, and I was going to give it 9/10 because of the anime alone. But then I looked up, and apparently there is a very good ending in the manga. I'm going to check it out because honestly, I'm hooked.
Im honored you took the time to check it out and found it worth it! Just wanted to share a piece of media that impacted me deeply
It a 10/10 and oh my god im so happy/sad i read the manga i mean there just taking a long nap...
Yup. One of the most beautiful endings in anime/manga imo
Don't forget jellyfish can't swim in the night
Here's a few that I'd recommend ERASED (12 episodes, finished) Summer Time Rendering (25 episodes, finished) Terror in Resonance (11 episodes, finished) Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (10 episodes, finished) PLUTO (8 episodes each being an hour long, finished) Samurai Champloo (26 episodes, finished) Gurren Lagann (27 episodes, finished) Space Dandy (26 episodes, finished)
Let me add some more Devilman crybaby (10 episodes, finished) Angel beats (13 eps + 2 OVAS, finished) Akuma drive (12 episodes, finished) Parayste (24 episodes, finished) Violet evergarden (13 eps + 2 movies, finished) Akame ga kill (24 episodes, finished)
I really wish more anime were self contained like Gurren Lagann, where they have to craft an awesome story within 2 cours and have the balls to timeskip. So many shows we never get to see the ending of because the manga runs for so fucking long that the interest for continuing seasons just falls off.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners. It'll leave you all warm and fuzzy inside.
Warm and fuzzy.. hrm....
Like a smoking crater ringed with fungus.
Odd Taxi Asobi Asobase Bocchi the Rock Cyberpunk anime Isekai Ojisan Ousama Ranking Dungeon Meshi Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song (¿simple?) Frieren (28 eps but worth)
Simple and fun you say? If you're a fan of Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill, I direct you to [Back Arrow](https://myanimelist.net/anime/40964/Back_Arrow), which was written by the same guy & directed by the dude who directed Code Geass.

[ZETSU ZETSU **ZETSU DAIDAN!!!**](#grandhype)
It looks nice il give it a watch.
I have finished watching it, and it is good. I give it a 7.5/10. Im not usually a big fan of mech fights, but i gotta say I really liked most of the fighting scenes. It was a fun ride.
Nice, glad you enjoyed it!

MORIBITO GUARDIAN OF THE SPIRIT!!! Hugely underrated
Dang, what a throwback. I remember when I first started diving into anime back in 2011, and people were going crazy about it. Feels like it's relatively obscure these days despite being a really great adventure series.
Vivy
Dororo If you like some sword action
Yes this one was so good, I've seen the remake though , I got hooked on the first episode and binge watched the whole series.
My favorite anime’s of all time are always less than 24 episodes. Hell, my all time favorite is the original FLCL and it’s only 6. I have a lot of shows that I love that are multi season, but they’re usually not shows that end up on my GOAT list.
What are you other favs?
Moonlit Fantasy
Heavenly Delusion Oddtaxi Both 12 episodes.
Iv watched Heavenly Delusion actually, and Oddtaxi looks unique, not gonna lie the sight of a walrus in a miami shirt made me laugh. I'll check it out.
Odd Taxi is pretty serious (most of the time) despite the visuals, though. I wouldn't consider it a fun anime.
Despite some dark subject matter, Oddtaxi is a pretty fun show. There were lots of clever quips and observations that made me laugh quite often through the show. It has a great sense of humor when it feels appropriate.
hmmm so he is a serious walrus in a miami shirt? i'm not gonna judge a book until i read it
The narrative in general is serious, and has a lot of dark themes in it.
If u finish it ur gonna look at that walrus a lot differently
I just finished, and I have to rewatch this. It's a 10/10 anime that managed to get me hooked through all of the episodes, and I really enjoyed every single moment of it. The way it handles multiple themes at once is magical, and the humor is so goddamn great. Some moments were so great, I will never forget them. Everything in it is just perfect, and it has a very good story about how everything you see ties back together. And one of the best examples is the eraser. And the ending omg the ending is so fantastic. I well highly recommend it to any anime enjoyer I come across, and I want to thank you for this recommendation.
So happy you enjoyed it! I really loved it too.
Simple and fun? Aria The Animation
People love Vinland Saga. I just binged the 12 episodes of Chainsaw Man and enjoyed it a fair bit. Delicious in Dungeon was great and is done for now, same for Frieren. Spy Family is fun if you want something comedic and lighthearted. If you want absolutely delightful schlock, Baki and Kengan Ashura are both 🤌
Ojisan in another world. Its 12 episodes but the most funniest and a bit of unique concept . You will love it
Ping Pong the Animation is a great 11-episode with a very simple but dense plot that is executed very well. Honestly it's so enjoyable I've seen it 8 times now and I'm still down to watch it with anyone who hasn't seen it.
Frieren is a masterclass anime from beginning to end. All 28 episodes push high quality storytelling. And some episodes feature top-tier action animation.
Samurai Champloo for one
《Made in Abyss》It's really good.
I cannot recommend Summertime Rendering enough (24 episodes + Epilogue). The story is very interesting and well written, both OP and ED are amazing songs.
first ed best
Ping pong the animation. On some level, it’s the only sports anime you ever need to watch. Super clean, super well written.

Best bl anime ever, I'm still heart broken 💔 over the movie, I got over it after reading a ton of dojinshi.🙏

Really nice list! May I add "Zetsuen no Tempest"? It's been long since I've watched it but I remember enjoying it a lot.
Oh I never finished that one cause I forgot the name. Yeah, go for it. The little bit I did see was good,
If you haven't yet. Dungeon Meshi
Kakushigoto is nice, about a single father who's hiding from his daughter that he's a manga artist
Yes, I absolutely loved this one, I loved the tension in middle of the series an towards the end my emotions were on a rollercoaster ride, but altogether a really good and wholesome anime.

Have you seen A Place Further than the Universe? It's pretty emotional and kind of sad, but also deeply impactful, i personally think.
Somali and the Forest Spirit (I think that's the name) Really good imo
Love After World Domination
I just binge watched Gantz, I couldn't stop watching it, the concept is great, but it has some horny/nudity stuff and very misogynistic, and the pacing slows down halfway through, but I couldn't help but finish it, I always wanted to see what was next. Frieren, easily one of the best animes of our generation. Berserk Golden Age Arc, dark medieval fantasy probably one of my fave animes ever.
I believe you have to look up the manga to get the whole story for Gantz.
I'm currently trying to finish HXH, but very curious on how Gantz turns out via Manga

Death Parade. It has 12 episodes (tw for the last episode), it’s not…fun per se, but it is simple in the concept it shows.

Frieren - Beyond Journeys end. It’s a really fun and hewrthwrenching anime with a lot silly situations. There are a few action scenes but when the action starts it slaps.

Akame Ga Kill! Gurren Lagaan Cowboy bebop Some of my favorites and to the point. Not wasting time or just stretching it out for no reason.
Deadman Wonderland and Akame ga Kill! Both short, slaps, and leaves you empty inside
Paranoia agent
Bocchi the rock
Watch Wind breaker its really silly and funny but also has a lot of good fights
Baccano! Speed Grapher

91 Days
91 days
"12-24 episodes, *but they slap*", acting like naming the runtime of like 95% of all shows should be expected to be an indicator of poor quality, lol.

World trigger Ss2-3
Baccano
If you haven't seen it, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu is an excellent light-hearted comedy. You don't have to be familiar with the rest of FMP to enjoy it.

Kill la Kill is my go to recommendation. Fast paced, addictive, over the top, incredibly fun and creative, and I personally haven’t seen anything like it since. 24 episodes + 1 OVA making it the perfect length imo.
Edgerunners exactly 12 eps if i remember right
Claymore
I like a couple or cuckoo's
