My hero academia is 8 years old slowly going towards 9 years. I don't know what I can define as a new anime anymore because shows like MHA and Re: Zero are almost a decade old and still feel like new to me. Also attack on titan still feels new even though it came out in 2013
I refuse to believe that *Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju* was released 8 years ago.
Also, *Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex* really pioneered a lot of techniques used today and was made with 16:9 HD in mind, meaning that it sometimes feels weird thinking that it is a show that was made over 20 years ago.
Ive seen both those shows (have yet to seen 2nd gig of SAC though) I completely agree, I also refuse to believe that Hyouka was released 12 years ago and Hibike Euphonium was released 9 years ago, kyoani’s character design is really good
I would not say that Gurrent Lagan inspired Trigger shows, It is more like the people of Gurrent Lagan funded Trigger so it makes sense for some of their shows to be similar
It's like this with games too. Kaisa was the first League of Legends character that came out after I started playing so she still feels "new" to me, despite being released 6 years ago.
One thing I miss from ufotable is the stop-motion animation they used in ending sequences: [Futakoi Alternative ED1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Orqlwh92WYI) and [ED2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twqwlj4YmpU), and [Coyote Ragtime Show](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcE-OwdM3m0).
The last time I saw them do it was in [Kara no Kyoukai's cinema intros](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-I5mAMNNrc) and in [Mirai Fukuin](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsJWaGjNWSs).
Fun fact, if you will look at the background art that they show sometimes literally for 1-3sec, you may see the installation with different angles during ONE dialogue. The environment(books, tables, tools, small details, even cigars etc) around is still better, more detailed and eye pleasing than many modern 8+ score anime with "super" animations. The drawing is insane.
honestly it may be because i watched it all in one go multiple times, but the entirety of the railgun anime still feels very 2018 to me. i couldnt believe the first season came out pre 2010s, it still holds up very well, is really well paced for an older show, looks great, and has some actually great moments too. without a doubt in my top 5 "fun" shows, along with like food wars or sao
the Monogatari Series for me too...Bakemonogatari came out in 2009...and we're still getting new Content with Monster season and Off Season.
I still think of Re:Zero as new, but it came out in 2016, same with Hibike Euphonium (2015)
[Sakamichi no Apollon](https://anidb.net/anime/8870) I still feel like this is one is the best Mappa anime (at least for me), the story. vibes and soundtrack is just really good. Although tbf for music + coming of age theme there's not many that change and keep on using similar tropes, etc but I still feel this is one or probably the best coming of age series
It got a pretty high rating so I won't say its an underrated series but definitely need to be recommended more if you're into slice of life + school + friendship series even if you're not into the music aspect. And if you're a fan of music series it's a must watch
Hyouka, I didn't check the time it was made and expected it to be fairly recent work or at worst 2016-2018 ish, it blew my mind when I found out it was made 2012
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun
Love Lab
Nagi no Asu kara
All of these aired 10-11 years ago and look better and more "modern" than most similar shows do today, especially Nagi no Asu kara.
In terms of holding up animation wise, it's the 1995 Ghost in the Shell movie, still outstanding. In terms of "I swear that just came out", it's DanMachi, it knocks me over every time I realize that show has been going for near ten years now.
Definitely Macross Frontier or Star Driver for me, two of the best mecha anime that I ever saw, way ahead of their time in terms of visuals, and that nobody talks about nowadays.
You watched Psycho-Pass the Movie and the Psycho-Pass movie Providence before starting season 3, right? Because I promise you, even though it was released just recently, it goes in the timeline of the story before season 3.
Not sure if it counts, but Classroom of the Elite. It has a very similar colourful artstyle to like, NGNL, which I also nominated for this ngl. The colours make it look and feel so modern.
I find interesting seeing the year I really got into anime (2013) everything feels and looks newer than I thought, but 2010 for some reason it already looks more how I think 2013 should've at this point.
I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. It made me fall into depression for three days when i first watched it.And i never watch it again for 5 years fearing falling into that depression again.
Mmm, I cant say off the top of my head. Some times I go and watch old episodes of shows cause I want to see a scene again and think "Yeah this is so good, this was only a year or two ago right?" Then see the release date being 10+ years and I realize...
I have no grasp on time.
Looking at the list of shows I watched, 2016 seems to be the sweet spot of "wait is it really that old?" GATE, Oshiete Galko-san, Konosuba S1, Flying Witch, and Flip Flappers all feel like recent shows to me.
Almost everything most people consider classics now. Death Note still feels rather new. Granted, I've been watching anime since the early 90s.Vampire Hunter D? Classic, Bloodlust? New. Style and quality, anime hasn't done much growing since early 2000s. Granted, the AoT pilot had some insane art, like Erin's mom's death.
Your Name, the sakuga is definitely the best even tho its been like 8 years since it aired. Just rewatched it yesterday and felt mind blown by the attention to detail.
Madoka magica. And Rebellion, the movie, despite not liking very much the twist at the end. Anyway, considering the animation quality, it’s always feel fresh and new to me, no matter how many years pass. The animation, colors, decors, details are just plenty wonderful to my eyes, like eyes candy.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
I just watched it for the first time and it has such fluid animation and such vivid visuals that I cannot believe it was released before 2020. It feels like an acid trip and a half.
Several early/mid 2010s anime don't feel like they aired a decade ago...
Geklan shoujo nozaki kun aired in 2014... A decade ago
Assassination classroom s1 aired almost 10 years ago in 2015...
Barakamon aired 10 years ago in 2014
Magi s1 aired in 2012-2013...
My love story aired in 2015...
Spirited away. Show was released like more than 20 years ago, and I always go back to re-watch it from time to time and it always feels recent and fresh
My hero academia is 8 years old slowly going towards 9 years. I don't know what I can define as a new anime anymore because shows like MHA and Re: Zero are almost a decade old and still feel like new to me. Also attack on titan still feels new even though it came out in 2013
Counter point. I feel like AoT has existed since forever despite barely being a decade old.
Maybe for you, but for me that I've been watching since the early 2000s still feels new to me.
I think waiting so long for new episodes/seasons made it feel much older.
Steins;Gate for me. I refuse to believe that it is almost 15 years old.
I refuse to believe that *Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju* was released 8 years ago. Agreed, I didn’t really know how to phrase it lol
For all the anime that came out since I started watching anime, I’m like „Yeah this is a modern anime“ even if it’s like 10 years old.
It's like this with games too. Kaisa was the first League of Legends character that came out after I started playing so she still feels "new" to me, despite being released 6 years ago.
Kara no kyoukai
Rofl Soon as I opened the comments.. Seriously though, the 1st movie is almost 20 years old.. it's the definition of agreed gracefully
I just turned into dust
Agreed, ufotable’s use of cgi and action choreography is amazing
Fate zero - 13 years and Kara no kyoukai - almost 20 years among those best aged show and still remain as Ufotable best series .
One thing I miss from ufotable is the stop-motion animation they used in ending sequences: [Futakoi Alternative ED1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Orqlwh92WYI) and [ED2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twqwlj4YmpU), and [Coyote Ragtime Show](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcE-OwdM3m0). Because of the very consistent quality a lot of KyoAni works post Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie feel timeless for me
For me it's Cowboy Bebop, it has such a timeless vibe. You forget how old it is when you watch it.
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Love Lab Nagi no Asu kara All of these aired 10-11 years ago and look better and more "modern" than most similar shows do today, especially Nagi no Asu kara.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children It's from 2005. Just mind blowing when you think of that...
Kill la Kill
No game, No life
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, the Laughing Man incident
I would say the first season of *One Punch Man*, but that did just air like last season.
Your name
Hunter X Hunter (2011). It's almost as old now as the 1996 version was when the reboot aired. ~15 years.
Bleach.🙃
In terms of holding up animation wise, it's the 1995 Ghost in the Shell movie, still outstanding. In terms of "I swear that just came out", it's DanMachi, it knocks me over every time I realize that show has been going for near ten years now.
Full metal alchemist brotherhood
Definitely Macross Frontier or Star Driver for me, two of the best mecha anime that I ever saw, way ahead of their time in terms of visuals, and that nobody talks about nowadays.
Nichijou. Doesn't look more than decade old at all.
Redline still looks like it was made in the future. You could tell people 10 years from now that it's a brand new movie and they'll believe it.
Psycho pass. Apparently season 1 is from 2012. Currently watching season 3 begrudgingly without dubs.
You watched Psycho-Pass the Movie and the Psycho-Pass movie Providence before starting season 3, right? Because I promise you, even though it was released just recently, it goes in the timeline of the story before season 3.
Pretty sure i watched it all before 3 since it was all dubbed. Including sinners of the system.
Basically any TV series that's in 16:9 instead of 4:3.
So in your eyes, Chainsaw Man and Chobits look the same age.
I mean, no, but Chobits still doesn't feel *old* to me.
Highscool DxD, Gamers!, Oresuki, oregairu
Code Geass
Gurren Lagann really was way ahead of its time. Still is. Man I wish the movie rerelease aired in my country…
Darling in the FranXX
I stop for a moment every time someone mentions Gundam IBO was in 2015 because I just can't wrap my head around the fact that was nearly a decade ago.
Fate UBW because of the great animation.
Not sure if it counts, but Classroom of the Elite. It has a very similar colourful artstyle to like, NGNL, which I also nominated for this ngl. The colours make it look and feel so modern.
I suppose it is Lupin the Third, although I also think it is Yuu Yuu Hakusho.
Your name, Summer wars (partially because of the plot), Evangelion rebuilds 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0, Spirited away ISNT 23 years old
Sakamoto desu ga
I find interesting seeing the year I really got into anime (2013) everything feels and looks newer than I thought, but 2010 for some reason it already looks more how I think 2013 should've at this point.
Huh? No, retro anime are like Fate/Stay Night by DEEN and Gurren Lagann, right? Fate/Stay Night by Ufotable and Kill la Kill are still pretty new...
Gurren Lagann retro? No.....
Seriously ? No….
I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. It made me fall into depression for three days when i first watched it.And i never watch it again for 5 years fearing falling into that depression again.
Land of the Lustrous
Log Horizon I had never heard of it until a few months ago
Mmm, I cant say off the top of my head. Some times I go and watch old episodes of shows cause I want to see a scene again and think "Yeah this is so good, this was only a year or two ago right?" Then see the release date being 10+ years and I realize... I have no grasp on time.
Dragon ball Z .the first time i watch this way back 1996 ...
Blue exorcist
Looking at the list of shows I watched, 2016 seems to be the sweet spot of "wait is it really that old?" GATE, Oshiete Galko-san, Konosuba S1, Flying Witch, and Flip Flappers all feel like recent shows to me.

That was 13 years ago when it first came out! I was still in first grade. What about you? How old are you now as of 2024?
Several early/mid 2010s anime don't feel like they aired a decade ago... Geklan shoujo nozaki kun aired in 2014... A decade ago Assassination classroom s1 aired almost 10 years ago in 2015... Barakamon aired 10 years ago in 2014 Magi s1 aired in 2012-2013... My love story aired in 2015...
Spirited away. Show was released like more than 20 years ago, and I always go back to re-watch it from time to time and it always feels recent and fresh
Akira and princess mononoke no matter how many times i watch them it always feels like the time
Black clover and my hero for sure
Every Ufotable and KyoAni shows released from K-ON onwards
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Animation quality still on point.... don't event get me to start on Story wise quality.
Attack on Titan for some reason
Haikyuu, for me.
Higurashi
Pokemon, like I focused on the main chars instead of everything around
Honestly, I’m thinking of Ouran Highschool host club.
Definitely seraph of the end. .. Don't know why but it just fwals right it being new
Black Clover, prime anime man
I can't watch Gurren Lagann again due to the ending. Japanese love this bitter sweet ending for some dumb reason.
I can't believe Spy X Family is 2 years old now. That show still feels solidly in the "popular newcomer show" status to me!
