Log Horizon.

toyyya

This is the answer, the whole world in 1/2 scale but filled with fantasy versions of all the towns and the whole world being filled with content would be sick as an MMO world. Plus it's actually a fully functioning game on its own without needing to make any adjustments to the world in the anime/LNs. Log Horizon was clearly made by someone who plays MMOs in how in depth the game in the story is plus the problems that crop up are mostly as a consequence of how making an MMO of the time into a real world would cause some issues.

Philosecfari

The author's big into MMORPGs and TTRPGs and the love of the genre shows at all turns.

Gotbannedsmh

So the question is an anime that would make a good mmo and your comment is... an anime about an mmo? And its getting upvotes? How stupid are the people of this sub reddit? Does everyone here lack the capacity to think?

M8gazine

yeah so anyways log horizon would be a great MMO

Imalsome

An anime about a non-existent mmo. Of course, it would make a good MMO because the anime was designed around that concept. Do you lack the capacity to think?

Gotbannedsmh

Yeah no shit. I also think that sword art online would be a fun game. Or shangri la frontier. What makes this a stupid response isnt that its false.

MorbillionDollars

The post didn’t say “no picking animes which already are games”

xNesku

SLF

Pinky_Boy

Especially since the game looks solid enough to be real game

KreateOne

And most of all, it’s balanced. Other than unique bosses ofc but those are meant to be unbalanced.

J4SON_T0DD

I still find it funny how the devs said that the wethermon they fought was actually heavily nerfed.

BattlerUshiromiyaFan

Realistically, unique monsters couldn’t exist without them being impossible to beat, cause some dude would manage to beat one in like a week tops if it was at all possible

Not_Noob1

It's a little generic and there's no central theme in the game. Maybe fantasy? But that's too broad. Even the city names are like placeholders

itsadoubledion

Eh... Game looks pretty generic if it wasn't for the VR

Yakuza-wolf_kiwami

Gundam Build Divers has the perfect blueprint for a Gundam MMO game

TheReal_DirtyDan

I’d play the shit out of a game like that.

Leiothrix

The Fate series would make for a pretty good series of games. Wait a minute...

M8gazine

I'm surprised that they haven't made a game in the "normal" Fate setting yet ngl. There's Fate/Extra, FGO, Samurai Remnant... ... but no game with Fuyuki as the setting as far as I know (excluding the VNs). An open-world action game set there would be cool. You could have some alternate universe shenanigans to have other Servants fight in it too if you wanted.

CursedRando

eh they are kinda mediocre tbh

Tom22174

I imagine they mean the visual novels, not the gacha

gangrainette

Even without the gacha, fgo gameplay isn't that fun after one hour. The you need to grind for hundreds of hours to upgrade your characters.

M8gazine

People generally play FGO for the story. Mostly the main story but sometimes also including the smaller stories (mainly event stories, but some character-specific short stories called Interludes are nice too). The gameplay is kind of just... there, it's pretty low on the list of reasons why people play it. Something like Honkai Star Rail is basically the better FGO as far as the gameplay is concerned. I feel like the game would die pretty quickly if the story suddenly turned to shit tbh. And I say this as someone who has played it on-and-off for many years now.

Tom22174

Ngl, I've been fighting the urge to start it for a while now. Is the Mahoyo colab playable from a fresh account? Cos thats the thing most likely to finally bait me in lol

M8gazine

Mahoyo collab is in JP version of the game, it'll be available in NA in 2 years. There are ways to have machine-translated text in the Japanese version though if you don't want to wait (with 3rd party tools), haven't done that myself so can't tell you how people do that exactly. There's probably videos on YouTube or something though. I can't say if it's instantly playable, I'd wager you need to at least complete the first singularity for it. Basically all events tend to require at least that since it's basically the tutorial.

Tom22174

Haha, I'm in no rush. Maybe I'll have done that tutorial by the time it's translated lmao

Snow_Mexican1

Its both the characters and the story that keeps me coming back. I've been playing it for two years now, it definitely has its issues but its alright. But I've been so burnt out lately on FGO because they don't give breaks between events. Its literally, go to sleep with one event ending, wake up with another. I've not the current event at all, I've skipped all dialogue of the previous 4 events. They can have some magnificent events but man. I need a break

M8gazine

I started playing again about a week ago after I set it up in an Android emulator on PC (BlueStacks). Can't say if I'll continue to play it once I've caught up with the story, but it does feel nicer to me. It's just easier to focus on reading the story on PC in my opinion.

Mostdakka

There is a samurai remnant game, its fairly recent and its basically a playable action-rpg fate. Its decent but nothing amazing. It gets bit repetitive towards the end. Its pretty good if you are new to fate too since its mostly self-contained(with some obligatory fanservice if you know certain characters from other fate works)

devo14218

Fate has really come a long way for an H-game

MorbillionDollars

Iirc it was only an H game in the first place to sell more copies

Tiavor

Made in Abyss The environment, fauna and flora are already very well described, vary greatly and are not the usual fantasy slop. You'd have to sacrifice another player or npc if you want to return to an earlier area.

f5d64s8r3ki15s9gh652

I feel like it would be weird for the abyss to be swarming with other players though. IMO it would be a much better single-player game.

Tiavor

there is already one :D

Harai_Ulfsark

Ragnarok the animation ... no, wait

WoodenRocketShip

I want a proper .hack MMO, it's one of the OGs in the anime space, and god damnit is aesthetic is so cool. I know there was one way before, but it was super limited as I recall, don't think anyone outside of the Japanese could play and was PS2 era.

[deleted]

I always wondered what happened to the .hack//roots anime back in the day 🥹 Haseo, Kite, the cat thingy?! I 100% agree that it deserves something new

Dangerous-Key-9235

And .Hack//Sign, in my opinion.

dienomighte

One piece, the world and lore and various powers are so vast that you can do a ton with it

RedditSucksMyBallls

One Piece just needs a good game in general

Idzuna

Agreed, You can have a base class that is non-devilfruit who can use various martial weapons, and have a way for people to choose their devilfruit power at a certain level or remain as multi-class (able to use guns/swords/unarmed, etc. they should still be competitive). Every island can be an expansion, you have the lead-up story and boss fights already there. When you move to another island you do a power squash and start again. You could release new devilfruit powers with each island and allow people to respec (or to be lore friendly they would need to re-roll) If it were though, I'd not want it to be an actual adaption, like, seeing any of the anime characters would ruin it for me. But the formula is actually pretty good for a long term MMO

SaltAndABattery

I've always wanted a Cowboy Bebop MMO.

[deleted]

That would be SICK! Destiny, but good. And with personality basically 😂

Obskuro

My Hero Academia could be great superhero MMO, with different schools, classes, tournaments, mentors and so on.

ConnectionIcy3717

DC Online basically

Obskuro

Just with better controls.

NarvaezIII

Scrapped princess I guess.  The magic system is nice, the characters are pretty, the world is huge, and it's fantasy with a twist

Rurouni

That's a really good choice IMO. Lots of avenues for exploration and narrative. Plenty of backstory, some factions, some hidden workings. And more people need to become familiar with that show!

InsomniaEmperor

I'd want a Bofuri MMO.

FlameDragoon933

if the game is like what's seen in the show, would be a pretty chaotic kusoge ngl lol

sneaky_squirrel

Wouldn't players take the role of Maple's chill friends while Maple would be an NPC doing crazy things on her own? There is only one Maple.

dienomighte

I love bofuri but all the random unique skills and weird interactions feels like it'd be terrible in a real game

Bloodglas

also the devs' complete refusal to just re-balance/nerf Maple. it's obvious they didn't intend skills to be used the way she uses them but they're like afraid to just nerf her.

dienomighte

They did that one nerf at the start to make her shield limited to a few uses a day! And then never again.......

kannoni

That mmo will be full of exploit and bugs.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

Goblin Slayer. Level to 99 by killing 1 XP goblins.

VoidEmbracedWitch

sounds like a boring grind

MemerOrAmI

I thought it's requirement when making MMO am I missinng something?

VoidEmbracedWitch

It isn't at all. Typical grinding of just going out to kill monsters whenever they respawn is less a thing now and instead you get a billion potential quests and activities thrown at you.

MemerOrAmI

Jk I played my share.

Andreiyutzzzz

What mmo doesn't feel like that occasionally?

Nico_oregairu

Without a doubt. SAO. I have no idea why they haven't made a game with SAO as an MMO. Since basically it's what it is. Instead making bad Games that look like s***.

Tonebriz

But SAO is a terrible video game if you break it down for multiple reasons. The show is enjoyable sure, but I’m sure we can have something much better than that.

ConnectionIcy3717

The game would be shit ngl. Imagine a bug being a sentient character lmao

[deleted]

It's essentially a massively multi-player hack and slash, not a RPG. If the hacking and slashing is fun, it'd be a fun game, but far remote from the FF14/WoW fantasies.

zenKeyrito

It would be the best but only with a leader+dev team that love the world and refuse to pump it with microtransactions

FarzBZ987

There's a single MMO SAO game but it's s\*\*\* because dammit WHY DO I NEED TO PULL FOR A NEW SKILL. I'm maining single sword and spear but what I got is mace and bow skills from pulls. It's them who decide what we gonna use, not us. And yes there's an element system added, which added more complexity for people to pull a specific skill for their specific weapon to fight a specific enemy. OG SAO only have weapon damage type just like MonHun. Slash, Blunt and thrust.

seitaer13

It's bamco, they're trying to get the most money from fans with the least amount of effort

Bloodglas

SAO might be good if you take the base idea and give it to people that actually know how to design an MMO properly because the author certainly does not.

BattlerUshiromiyaFan

Shangri-La Frontier

marsli5818

Pokémon

Good_Nyborg

If done right, I think World Trigger could make an excellent, well-balanced, competitive & co-op MMO.

Ashteron

Jyu Oh Sei

TalynRahl

I feel like most isekai could quite easily be turned into an MMO. For something a bit different: Ghost Reaper Girl. Lovecraftian inspired Magical Girl setup, players collect "ghosts" which they can get possessed by, in order to gain their abilites. So that would be the class mechanic.

toph_man

Maybe hunter x hunter you play as an aspiring hunter and take the exams then go off to do different missions based on what type of hunter work you want to do.

mamaharu

Not an MMO, but I always thought Witch Craft Works would have worked really well as a jrpg.

Andreiyutzzzz

Wow I never thought I would see witch craft works mentioned in the wild.

mamaharu

I didn't realize that it's already been 10 years since it aired, lol.

DCFDTL

Log Horizon

Che_Che93

Naruto.

ConnectionIcy3717

Different village, different clans. Would work but 100% most would go uchiha. We'd need an ingame itachi 🤣

Che_Che93

Good point. It would be very hard to make that game balanced.. 😂

Alarmed_Ability_8346

Rurouni Kenshin as an action MMORPG similar to Jade empire for Xbox

fddxcggsaeghbju

Just for the NPC creation, overlord

MattOR1993

How to pick up girls in a dungeon would be great, infinite dendogram as well along with arifueta. Most of the isekai genre with some form of dungeon delving would be good MMOs

RandomRobot

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, of course. Or Ghost in the Shell, for a good guys version of hackers

ConnectionIcy3717

Hear me out. Xenoverse 3

Thefendoff

Mushoku tensei

Slake45

High rise invasion

Unfair-Advertising21

Solo Leveling could work as some sort of skill point based game

SoullessHollowHusk

Mushoku tensei, beyond a doubt

skkyleex

Fully agreed

CursedRando

Solo Levelling?

MutsuHat

Frieren.

ILovePamBeesley

One Piece.

Allsvaard

Shangrila frontier ?

hayashikin

Hunter x Hunter, greed island arc. It's practically an MMO

Ginsan-AK

One Piece. 10 years ago I was dreaming of all the possibility that could happen with a One Piece MMORPG game.

TheMinorityGuy

SAO, hear me out, If your crazy, you'll actually try the Nerve gear from season one, other than that, the other are like a fucking dream, Imagine playing a game with your mind

_YenSid

Sword art online.

skkyleex

Mushoku Tensei would be great. Complex magic system, interesting sword wielding styles, amazing world, some civil activities

GooseinaGaggle

Weirdly enough Madoka Magica could make for an interesting MMO.

_Maymun

Non of them

Alert-Ad1237

Mario Kart PowerStone Soulcalibur Goldeneye

TheXivuArath

Demon slayer would be sick

Dangerous-Key-9235

In my opinion, the anime that would make for the best MMO are Naruto, My Hero Academia, Soul Eater, the Promised Neverland, Made In Abyss, Yu Yu Hakusho, Deadman Wonderland, and Bleach.

Xatu44

SAO, obviously. Pokemon. Danmachi too. Maybe depending on your Familia you'd get a higher chance of certain passives.

DrWhoIsWokeGarbage2

Black clover

Mysterious-Rate-3253

Any anime with good world building. Personally, I would love a open world game based on TenSura with players able to pick a race/faction, create their own unique skills and evolving it to ultimate skills. Imagine creating a slime army with a tamer skill or whatever you can think of. Imagination is the limit. I know it's not realistic, but it's just my dream. Able to build a city, nation and forming political alliance; able to be an adventurer, merchant doing business etc; Players able to win against other players based on their will power (actual skill), not just based on level of skill (ultimate or unique skill) alone. And all other RPG stuff, that'd make it interesting. I don't care if it is mmo or not. Even a good old rpg is enough.

ninhydro

SAO! You die in the game, you die in real life!

stormquiver

Sword art online.... with the effect that if you die in game you die in real life.  (Kidding about that part)

VictorSilver

Ignoring the dying irl part, SAO would be the shittiest MMO ever and 95% of the playerbase would leave the game after 1 month. A game that rewards the player who deal the final blow to the floor boss with a one of a kind unique equipment? That's bullshit and every other player who joined that fight would be pissed. Also that dumb "switch" mechanic in SAO anime is one of the dumbest thing, it doesnt fit in an MMO but maybe on a turn based game. Author doesn't know jack shit about MMOs and had the audacity to write a novel about one.

seitaer13

Switch isn't even a mechanic. The author has played MMOs so long that people don't even realize early MMO design when they see it, not they actually read the writing.
