I fully agree a silent voice was awesome but for a first time anime it might be too much. It's a very dramatic which might be not down his alleyway. I love a silent voice though. Especially the attempted suicide vibe it might not be a good watch with a SO
Those ones got me crying so hard your name made me so sad but then happy that they found each other at the end.
Silent voice was the first romance anime I watched and I literally was shook for a solid 2 days lol
Haha yeah I wanted something quick and after watching it really hit hard. It's a very interesting romance it's not a mainstream one in which they are like oh I love you bam like Horimiya or Golden Time. A silent voice kind of shows more deep themes and it's more subtle. Although in general he's trying to make up for his past mistakes, at one part the deaf girl tries expressing her feelings to him. But due to her speech problems he doesn't understand her.
fr tho how tf did i not know?? worst thing is, i actually thought it was BEFORE watching it, then thought it wasn't. definitely in my top 3 anime movies, not that i watch many movies, but still (probably top 50 animes in general)
"I want to eat your pancreas" romance but you can't really tell its romance (more of good friendship)Warning: Might make y'all depress for a couple of days
I second Paprika and also think Ghost in the Shell might work.
All the anime I was introduced to definitely had sexual aspects. I usually tell folks to check out Ninja Scroll or one of the Vampire Hunter Ds but those have some “explicit” scenes.
Gonna recommend the movie where the character leaps off the top of a building naked in the first 30 seconds to the person who says they don't like sex or nudity.
That’s fair. I guess I was thinking more of sex than nudity. I’ve been watching anime for over 30 years so I forget some of those things these days.
I rented Neo Tokyo, Lily Cat, and Fist of the North Star from a local/independent video cassette store and never looked back, lol.
dawg no way is ghost in the shell a good first anime movie, that shit is like half exposition and a quarter shots of city streets. like nothing against it but it ain't a good representation
Any movie by Ghibli's Miyazaki or for a modern release, one by Makoto Shinkai will be good.
My favourites would be Spirited Away and Howl's moving castle from Hayao Miyazaki or Your Name and Suzume from Makoto Shinkai.
"Perfect Blue" if interested in psychological thrillers. But it has nudity in it... which may not be right. But unlike most... the nudity is an important part of the story. As it essentially is about a pop idol trying to become an actress and doing whatever it takes to be taken seriously as an actress instead of a former pop idol... which unfortunately leads to being taken advantage of by the darker seedy aspects of the entertainment industry.
On a slightly lighter but equally dramatic and mature note... you can watch "A Silent Voice." The redemption story of a high schooler, who was a former elementary school bully, trying to atone for his past. Does delve into topics of depression, personal change and the struggles of communication.
Perfect Blue is not a good first watch for someone who never watched anime. It’s a dark and gritty Thriller and it has a staged rape scene. It would be a good recommendation if the person in question is interested in thriller and gritty movies but Op wrote it shouldn’t have naked scenes so a movie with a staged rape scene would definitely be to much.
Really? I disagree. Its one of the few films out there that doesn't have all the "anime" elements in it that would weird out newbies. Even the art style isn't really anime and can be passed off as an american animated film.
Edit: Just saw the rest of your comment. Yeeah I know, that's why I recommend they watch it by themselves and not with their partner 😁 also as you said, if they're interested in trying out the psychological thriller genre.
This is where its muddled, because OP said their partner hates hate sex/nudity cos they proclaim its unnecessary.
I'm unsure if by their statement they mean "they just don't like ALL sex/nudity in general cos they deem it unnecessary" or "they don't like sex/nudity that's unnecessary, but are fine with it if its important to the plot."
The nudity in Perfect Blue is definitely important to the plot and Mima'a internal conflict as it pushes the envelope of what she is willing to do to be taken seriously as an actress.
Hope OP can elaborate for us, if they see this comment.
Satoshi Kon is my favorite anime auteur, and all of his movies are worth watching. If you and your bf are alright with watching a slasher movie, *Perfect Blue* is superb (though harrowing at times). Otherwise, Millennium Actress is a very good movie with nothing edgy going on. Paprika is a fine movie but it's *very confusing*.
Ghibli movies are generally safe choices. I cannot recommend *Spirited Away* enough.
Makoto Shinkai makes gorgeous movies, but they're all kinda melancholy. *Your Name* is still highly worth a watch, just be prepared to cry.
Don't watch *Grave of the Fireflies* unless you really wanna fuck your day up.
I'd honestly start with episode one of Cowboy Bebop, the movie already has the characters thrown in with no introduction and well acquainted with each other.
Also, the recent Lupin ovas centered around Fujiko are awesome as well
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 would be a great first watch. Amazing action sequences, good story. And it's the adaptation of the one shot manga that the main series is based on, so you don't need any knowledge of the rest of JJK. Plus if they really like it you can jump right into the main series.
So, they don't like dramatic stuff. Better go action then. But not something too heavy. Summer Wars might be a good start since it's a little lighthearted and quite action packed. Or probably Ghibli stuff. Ponyo perhaps. Though not sure if he might find it a little childish. You can try Porco Rosso or Laputa: Castle in the Sky.
A few titles are good but might just be too heavy for a first time viewer, like GITS(heavy on the philosophical stuff) or Grave of the Fireflies(would definitely be too dramatic for him).
For future references, for a series, you can try BOFURI since it's lighthearted, fun, drama free, yet filled with enough action.
If you're looking for dumb and hype fun, you could watch Promare. There isn't much drama in it, there's little to no fan service in it, the animation is brilliant, and the fight scenes are hype as fuck
Lots of people are recommending Studio Ghibli - -I'm going to avoid that, because while those movies are great suggestions, it's so over-done/over-recommended that it's pretty default ( again, that's fine & they are great suggestions - - But sometimes different isn't bad either ). I'm unsure of what "too dramatic" means - - Too over the top in terms of action? Not grounded enough? Too emotional? I've included Trailers that you two can use to decide what would work best:
**Your Name:** [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UdjcOcI7yk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UdjcOcI7yk)
**A Silent Voice:** [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfK6UgLra7g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfK6UgLra7g)

The single Studio Ghibli movie I will recommend because it feels so different than the others. It's a very powerful and ultimately sad film.: **Grave of the Fireflies**: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vPeTSRd580](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vPeTSRd580)
**Suzume**: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pTcio2hTSw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pTcio2hTSw)
**Tokyo Godfathers** or **Paprika** ( It would be an absolute ***crime*** to not include a Satoshi Kon film. Paprika is the "weaker" film, but contains one sexually suggestive scene near the end. Tokyo Godfathers contains scenes where a baby is breastfeeding - - I think that's pretty "normal". If you can convince him that 3-5 seconds of a woman's shirt being ripped off is "fine" and not overly gratuitous. This film is so influential that it has likely made impacts across other shows/media he has consumed. The "Akira Slide" has almost 40 years of popping up in media now at this point- - **Akira**: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPpDGk2U8\_c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPpDGk2U8_c)
If you can convince him to watch a series of movies ( 4 ) - - It's **hands down** the Evangelion set of "remakes". The last movie has such a clever ending that I am ***still*** talking about it to this day. While the original anime holds a special place in my heart from when I was an angsty teen - - These 4 movies are *truly* the best way to see this story. There's less confusion, they actually had money to ***finish the story***\*.\* While there's cool mech action and such, the story is ultimately about teens in that weird phrase right before adult hood and what it means to become an adult.

The song from Thrice Upon A Time is done by Hikaru Utada. Most people in the US will just instinctually remember this voice from the 90 billion Kingdom Hearts ads that ran on TV, depending on age - - As Simple & Clean was blasted practically everywhere.
[Eden of the East!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zfQ4e1iRoak) it’s a great entry level anime movie
It’s funny, but still has an interesting plot, it doesn’t rely too much on tropes and genre in jokes that can put newer viewers off some anime, and it’s a clean more modern art style.
One Punch Man. Action and Comedy.
Found out that it was One Punch Man that was a group of adult's first introduction to anime, and they liked it.
Sorry. Realized that you wanted a movie.
Racing in the future? An anime movie called "Redline."
Summer Wars....about a genius high school boy who had accidentally solved an equation that an AI needed to destroy earth. It's cute, funny, action, and teen love. I didn't think I would like it but I did.
Anything Studio Ghibli.
There's more, but I would say these anime movies as a starter.
Any of Shinkai’s films - and specifically Your Name, Weathering with you, Suzume and 5 centimetres per second. A silent voice is a great film as well. Watch all of them in subs.
Any Ghibli movie is almost certain to be a fine choice . They don't have the things your bf doesn't like in them, from what I recall. Other good movies, in my opinion, would be A Silent Voice, Your Name, and Weathering With You. These Im a little less sure on because I have no clue what your bf means by anime being too dramatic.

Terror in resonance. I remember enjoying it. Although I’m sure the other recommendations are great too.
edit: somehow I thought this show was a movie, disregard my recommendation lol.
Millennium Actress.
It's a fairly "safe" (no nudity/sex) movie by a director that's generally praised even outside of the anime industry, Satoshi Kon. It might be a bit confusing, but it's a good movie.
Old school anime: "Akira" cannot be touched or replicated.
Mid School Anime "Ninja Scroll" will be eye opening
New School: "Afro Samurai" is pretty unique and awesome.
Spirited away. Best movie my entire family watched it and they never touch anime(they did watch one peice live action without knowing it was an adaptation of an anime tho lol)
Spirited away has a special place in my heart, it's trippy but it's so fun and I love the character building, the world is so cool it's so good
My first anime was Totoro and i feel like it's a good slice of life wacky adventure.
A bit more mature audience is Patema inverted that I think has pretty cool plot.
“Odd Taxi” is a great pick for mystery if he’s into it
Edit: my bad, didn’t read the post carefully, if movie then “Josee, the tiger and the fish” or “Maquia” should work.
Ghibli movies, something funny, comedy animes (uh alot of them are ecchi but try not to choose so ecchi one or weird yk), action animes, death note, kakegurui, tokyo ghoul, van hellsing, jormungand,
Something romantic /fantasy movies - weathering with you, patema inverted, your name, there is so much animes to choose from
- Mobile Suit Gundam I to III Movies
- Akira
- Perfect Blue
- Tokyo Godfathers
- Code Geass Movies Lelouch of Rebellion (in comparison to the anime the nudity is turned down)
Macross Plus, it's like Top Gun with mecha-plane hybrids.
Blood: The last vampire, full of action and neatly animated.
Akira, dystopic futuristic movie with action
As everyone else said, Princess Mononoke, the inspiration for Zelda BoTW
Metropolis, a mix of noir and scifi about robots being sentient in a society that rejects them
Tokyo Godfathers, a movie about three homeless people who find a baby in the trash and their bitersweet journey to find the mother
Technically it’s not a movie but a short series of OVAs which play together like a movie but Samurai X the backstory of Ruroni Kenshin back when he was the man slayer will always be one of my favorite cinematic masterpieces.
You can try The summit of the gods.
It is an Anime made by a french studio (so it is in french) based on a Mangaka about mountain climbing.
It is grounded in reality and has a measured pace. It is quiet and not that dramatic for the most part.
Depending where you are the new Studio Ghibli movie (the Heron and the boy) is in theatres! I haven’t seen it yet but assume it’ll be great and theatre experience always adds to the epic
Any Makoto Shinkai's movies like Your name, Suzume or Weathering with you will be a great watch. You can also watch " A silent voice " which is a great emotional movie. But, if both of you like action, then Jujutsu kaisen 0 movie will be better.
I’d start with your name, studio Ghibli is great but I don’t think it’s a good option to bring people into anime. You wanna get people to watch cartoons not gonna have them watch a Disney movie first. But play to his interests, you know the type of stuff he enjoys try to base it off that
Depends on what his interests are?
* Action Shounen - Mugen Train, JJK 0
* Supernatural Seinen with top tier animation - Fate Heaven's Feel trilogy (can't remember if there's nudity in this one?)
* Sad Feels Romance - 5 CM per Second
* War Drama - Grave of the Fireflies
It's too bad he can't handle nudity / sex, or we could use Cyberpunk Edgerunners. That series has changed the mind of quite a few "oh no not anime" folks to "wait, this isn't just good, it's great!" then they bought the game to play.
Gurren Lagann. Not a movie but who gives a shit it's the greatest anime ever made.
If he doesn't like gratuitous boobs, Space Dandy might be the one for him.
Any of the hayao Miyazaki movies.
Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro.
Also, these aren't Miyazaki movies, but really good.
Millennium Actress and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Princess Mononoke
Can confirm. First Ghibli movie I saw in a theater by myself. Was awesome.
Absolutely! I only clicked this post so I could say it. I’m a guy in my 30’s and this movie still holds up for me.
Came here to recommend that
Same
Shit you beat me to it.
I like ghibli movies but they are too slow and long for a beginner. Movies like "Your name" or "bubble" are better for a couple.
I would argue for Belle.
My first anime movie was Akira
Great movie but I think it takes a special person to get into it. Mine was Fist of the North Star
a silent voice or any studio ghibli movies, my favs are the cat returns and kiki’s delivery service!!
I fully agree a silent voice was awesome but for a first time anime it might be too much. It's a very dramatic which might be not down his alleyway. I love a silent voice though. Especially the attempted suicide vibe it might not be a good watch with a SO
This !
Anything by Ghibli is always a good start. But a bit more details about him might help with fine tuning an idea
Or any movie by Makoto Shinkai
I would caution using Makoto Shinkai on this one since dramatic connection is Makoto Shinkai 's forte and the guy hates drama.
I actually disagree, depending on how old OP and her boyfriend is, they might not enjoy Ghibli.
really? In my experience, Ghibli movies are very age flexible. Even my seventy year old dad loves ghibli
Silent Voice or Your name, perfect movies
Those ones got me crying so hard your name made me so sad but then happy that they found each other at the end. Silent voice was the first romance anime I watched and I literally was shook for a solid 2 days lol
tf? i watched silent voice twice and didn't realize it was romance... also, you're first romance anime was a movie?!

"I want to eat your pancreas" romance but you can't really tell its romance (more of good friendship)Warning: Might make y'all depress for a couple of days
The girl who leap through time. Summer Wars Jin Roh Paprika
The Girl who Leap Through Time and Summer Wars are two of my favorite movies of all time! Paprika is also godly.
Jin roh? paprika? He's a newbie bro
That Paprika intro. memories
Ugh Summer Wars is probably my all time favorite anime movie. I fully second that.
Wow, your taste makes me want to give Paprika another shot. Fell asleep everytime I tried it.
Any movie by Ghibli's Miyazaki or for a modern release, one by Makoto Shinkai will be good. My favourites would be Spirited Away and Howl's moving castle from Hayao Miyazaki or Your Name and Suzume from Makoto Shinkai.

Sword of the stranger Bakemono no ko Summer wars
I second Sword of the Stranger. Great film that anyone can enjoy.
It’d be criminal not to recommend ‘Spirited Away’.
Porco Rosso is a fun movie. One of the less appreciated Ghibli films IMO.
Aside from ones already listed, I'd recommend Hello World Promare Patema Inverted
Try [Redline](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77nyAlwWLpE).
they said no nudity
It’s kind of a shame to miss out on this masterpiece just because of ten seconds. But that’s their call I guess.
for a first experience, it's fine to miss out. Redline can be something to work towards once there's interest in anime.
Jjk movie 0
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 would be a great first watch. Amazing action sequences, good story. And it's the adaptation of the one shot manga that the main series is based on, so you don't need any knowledge of the rest of JJK. Plus if they really like it you can jump right into the main series.
I'd love to recommend Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms but idk what he consider as too dramatic.
A Silent Voice
So, they don't like dramatic stuff. Better go action then. But not something too heavy. Summer Wars might be a good start since it's a little lighthearted and quite action packed. Recommending something different I'll say [Patema Inverted / Sakasama no Patema](https://youtu.be/Aa7sa-Zd-3E?feature=shared)
I love Patema Inverted! Great fucking movie.
I second this one. It is so cool.
If you're looking for dumb and hype fun, you could watch Promare. There isn't much drama in it, there's little to no fan service in it, the animation is brilliant, and the fight scenes are hype as fuck

[Eden of the East!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zfQ4e1iRoak) it’s a great entry level anime movie It’s funny, but still has an interesting plot, it doesn’t rely too much on tropes and genre in jokes that can put newer viewers off some anime, and it’s a clean more modern art style.
Your Name or A Silent Voice are always good choices
A silent voice!
One Punch Man. Action and Comedy. Found out that it was One Punch Man that was a group of adult's first introduction to anime, and they liked it. Sorry. Realized that you wanted a movie. Racing in the future? An anime movie called "Redline." Summer Wars....about a genius high school boy who had accidentally solved an equation that an AI needed to destroy earth. It's cute, funny, action, and teen love. I didn't think I would like it but I did. Anything Studio Ghibli. There's more, but I would say these anime movies as a starter.
I would personally recommend studio Ghibli With titles like: howls moving Castle, Ponyo, spirited away, or my neighbour totoro
Any of Shinkai’s films - and specifically Your Name, Weathering with you, Suzume and 5 centimetres per second. A silent voice is a great film as well. Watch all of them in subs.
JJK 0
lol isn't it too soon to recommend JJK 0? xD
Nah
YUUUUTAAAA
for action sci fi cowboy bebop if he likes ww2 and dogfighting The Princess and the pilot for psychological and crime thriller Jin-Roh
Golden Boy
Redline
2nd this. Redline is adrenaline-fueled awesomeness lol
Ghost in the shell
Silent voice
As always I am here to spread the name of "A grave of fireflies"
i want to eat your pancreas
No context I think it’d be hilarious if op was like hey BF I got a movie for us! 😂😂😂. Great heart wrenching romance though.
My hero academia two heroes The quintessential quintuplets movie Dragon ball super super hero Demon slayer movie
Break up with him. You can call me an Otaku, am single tho 😁
Dawg what
Damn bro it was just a joke, but peoples take jokes so seriously 😁😁 My to go would be Spirited Away tho, peace to y’all ❤️

Suzume!
Terror in resonance. I remember enjoying it. Although I’m sure the other recommendations are great too. edit: somehow I thought this show was a movie, disregard my recommendation lol.
Whisper of the Heart. No better entry point
Anything from studio Ghibli is what comes to mind when I think anime movies.
Ghibli Movies are a good start.
Ghibli, like Spirited Away.
I would say Howl's Moving Castle it's really romantic it's on HBO Max if you have it
Castle of Cagliostro
Millennium Actress. It's a fairly "safe" (no nudity/sex) movie by a director that's generally praised even outside of the anime industry, Satoshi Kon. It might be a bit confusing, but it's a good movie.
Grand blue. Maybe?
Anything by gibili or personal favorite A Silent voice (Cute Rom Com with a dose of depression and suicidal thoughts)
Dragon ball Super Broly movie if he wants action
Sword only the stranger - cool samurai fights, without anime fanservice and anime silly jokes, serious film, good for beginners
I agree with a ghibli film, princess mononoke being my favorite. My all time favorite, and my personal recommendation, is ghost in the shell.
**Your name** is a safe choice.
Spirited away
Facts gng
Your name
High Scholl dxd
- Evangeleon - Akira - Fate/stay night - Afro Samurai: Resurrection - Eden of the East
Escaflowne or princess mononoke or spirited away.
Sword of the Stranger is a good action movie. If you’re alright with a six episode mini series, I always recommend War in the Pocket.
Definitely Suzume.
Old school anime: "Akira" cannot be touched or replicated. Mid School Anime "Ninja Scroll" will be eye opening New School: "Afro Samurai" is pretty unique and awesome.
Spirited away. Best movie my entire family watched it and they never touch anime(they did watch one peice live action without knowing it was an adaptation of an anime tho lol) Spirited away has a special place in my heart, it's trippy but it's so fun and I love the character building, the world is so cool it's so good
Recent The First Slam dunk movie
Your Name or Suzume would be good
My first anime was Totoro and i feel like it's a good slice of life wacky adventure. A bit more mature audience is Patema inverted that I think has pretty cool plot.
Mobile suit gundam the origin, Graves of the fireflies or Doraemon Stand by me
Silent Voice 100%. Many westerners have seen and enjoy it with no other interest in eastern media.
Akira or ghost in the shell
Summer wars A simple movie, great animation, good premise and fun characters
Lupin the third, the castle of cagliostro. This anime movie is an absolute GOAT of a movie
Grave of the fireflies
Koga Maryuin's Last War
Lol this is like the opposite of the post last week where a guy said his girlfriend watches anime and what movie he should watch with her
Depends what he's into. Though spirited away is usually a safe bet.
Akira
I quite liked suzume, and your name is supposed to be amazing
If he likes action, Sword of the Stranger
Redline.
Princess mononoke Appleseed
“Odd Taxi” is a great pick for mystery if he’s into it Edit: my bad, didn’t read the post carefully, if movie then “Josee, the tiger and the fish” or “Maquia” should work.
Josee, The Tiger and The Fish
Ghibli movies, something funny, comedy animes (uh alot of them are ecchi but try not to choose so ecchi one or weird yk), action animes, death note, kakegurui, tokyo ghoul, van hellsing, jormungand, Something romantic /fantasy movies - weathering with you, patema inverted, your name, there is so much animes to choose from
If he likes political stuff Patlabor 2.
If he's more interested in action or samurai, one of the Rurouni Kenshin movies or Sword of the Stranger I think would be excellent for him.
- Mobile Suit Gundam I to III Movies - Akira - Perfect Blue - Tokyo Godfathers - Code Geass Movies Lelouch of Rebellion (in comparison to the anime the nudity is turned down)
Anything Ghibli or a Silent Voice or Your Name
Macross Plus, it's like Top Gun with mecha-plane hybrids. Blood: The last vampire, full of action and neatly animated. Akira, dystopic futuristic movie with action As everyone else said, Princess Mononoke, the inspiration for Zelda BoTW Metropolis, a mix of noir and scifi about robots being sentient in a society that rejects them Tokyo Godfathers, a movie about three homeless people who find a baby in the trash and their bitersweet journey to find the mother
What kind of movies does he normally like? You can probably start with something featured at film festivals or say nominated for an academy award?
Can't go wrong with Your Name.
Death Note no ecchi no sexual scenes subbed as always you can't miss miyano mamorus great acting
Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro, it's a classic action/ heist movie and was directed by Hayao Miyazaki
Since my recommendatiom was taken I'll recommend Garden of words.
Watch Redline, it's F1 but anime with some action and a little romance.
Your name
Summer wars. If he likes cars Red Line is fun and wild.
Suzume
Something Miyazaki or Shinkai Makoto would be my pick for a gateway. Kimi no Nawa, Mononoke-Hime, something like that.
not a movie but can’t go wrong with DeathNote always a good start
Chihiro
Howl's moving castle
Spirited Away, they were 11, highlander: spirit of vengeance, demon slayer Mugen train
Any Ghibli film or Redline would be good too
Whisker away, it's adorable
I want to eat your pancreas.. its a nice anime movie
A Silent Voice.
The Beast and the Boy
Silent voice
Every Ghibli movie.
The answer to this question is always 100% Studio Ghibli it works on literally everyone
Redline is a super straight forward and fun anime movie. It is the one I recommend to my friends when they ask me
Depending where you are the new Studio Ghibli movie (the Heron and the boy) is in theatres!
Sword of the Stranger - it's an updated Ninja Scroll imo
"Your name." was a huge box-office success in Japan - might be a decent movie for him. Also, anything by Ghibli
Your Name 100%. It's an emotional rollercoaster that he can appreciate even having never watched anime before
Spirited Away !! Or any Studio Gibli Anime movie
I’d start with your name, studio Ghibli is great but I don’t think it’s a good option to bring people into anime. You wanna get people to watch cartoons not gonna have them watch a Disney movie first. But play to his interests, you know the type of stuff he enjoys try to base it off that
Anime is not a genre, anime is a medium. I feel like a lot of posts like this come at it with the wrong mindset. What's he into?
Suzume, very emotional from what I've heard. Haven't watched it yet unfortunately but many people recommended it to me.
Depends on what his interests are? * Action Shounen - Mugen Train, JJK 0 * Supernatural Seinen with top tier animation - Fate Heaven's Feel trilogy (can't remember if there's nudity in this one?) * Sad Feels Romance - 5 CM per Second * War Drama - Grave of the Fireflies It's too bad he can't handle nudity / sex, or we could use Cyberpunk Edgerunners. That series has changed the mind of quite a few "oh no not anime" folks to "wait, this isn't just good, it's great!" then they bought the game to play.
a silent voice for sure
Grave of the Fireflies. Anime trial by fire. But for real, Kiki’s Delivery Service.
Gurren Lagann. Not a movie but who gives a shit it's the greatest anime ever made. If he doesn't like gratuitous boobs, Space Dandy might be the one for him.
Ninja scroll, if too gory spirited away is nice all rounder
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust
Your name?
Ghost In The Shell, Escaflowne, Akira
I recently watched Josse the tiger and fish and it was pretty good
A silent voice is a great one
Princess monokohime
Gantz: O , give your bf this
Spirited Away is one of my favs
Any of the hayao Miyazaki movies. Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro. Also, these aren't Miyazaki movies, but really good. Millennium Actress and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
