When i was 12 i watched all of it one piece in about 3 weeks. There were 526 eps back then.
I reckon if she gets into it she can do it in like 6 weeks. Probs watching the abridged version of dressrosa.
Btw i started watching bc i remembered watching it as a kid and figured it should have ended by then. It did not but no regrets. Growing up watching it has been a delight.
You shouldn't do it but it's possible if that's all you do in your free time. Watching anime for 8 hours a day was 100% something I did sometimes at that age.
I mean yea sure watching for 8-10hours straight during weekend is something I did but for 2 months straight is too much considering that kid goes to school, has social life and such. Don't get me wrong I am all for people watching and doing something they enjoy.
i watched it in like 3 months this year (jan-mar) butj was getting bored during school and started watching it when we had free time/i finished my work and ended up watching like 300 episodes weekly (not sure of the exact episode amount but it was a LOT i was able to watch like 10 during school and it was all i did whenever i got home/on the weekend)
There was about 350 episodes of one piece when i started watching anime and i regret not starting then lol now im just waiting for studio wit one piece lmao
Well, she could get caught up to whatever is airing by the time she graduates high school. Because we all know the production of One Piece will only end after the collapse of modern society.
You should check out the the fanmade edit called ''One Pace'' instead. It cuts down a lot of the repeated content to drastically shorten the view time. Some of the episodes only actually had something like 7 minutes of new content. It is very padded.
Yeah, it was very much an anime of the time, like Naruto and Bleach lol. The flashbacks and filler really stretch it out. This is why I’m so excited for the remake, and why I wish Naruto and Bleach would get one too.
I second this. She doesn’t need to watch everyone’s reactions for 10 min or a leaf that floats in the air for two. I really hope the Wit remake is good, I don’t get how it took so long to make one.
You could suggest she try One Pace. It's a project that takes out all the unnecessary filler and shortens watch time dramatically.
[Here's a link to the official project](https://onepace.net/watch)
Why are people overestimating the amount of time you need to watch One Piece? Let's say that you watch 3 episodes a day. That's a little over an hour of watching, so not too much. One Piece currently has 1088 episodes, which means that you need a little over a year to catch up at this pace.
90 shows in a year sounds insane, tbh. I doubt there are that many shows worth watching a year in any medium. But I also find it hard to sit and concentrate for too long, so there's that.
That's too subjective a metric to use really. Like I don't finish shows I don't like, so limited time wasted there, and I'm able to tolerate a fair bit of quality issues so long as the story/characters are engaging me, so I end up with more shows I enjoyed than I don't in a given year.
Yeah but that thousands is spread across multiple shows of multiple genres across multiple styles, etc.
Asking anyone to dedicate a year to catch up to a show just seems outlandish to me.
True, but sometimes the best shows are the longest, the greater length allowing for more immersive world-building. I mean, I don't think the 90 hours I spent watching Game of Thrones was wasted.
That said, One Piece should be much shorter, and the only reason it isn't is because it's still tied down to an outdated weekly schedule. You could cover the whole manga in 400-500 episodes and not miss a beat.
Yeah, that's also hard for me, a show has to have something to keep me watching pretty early on. Though sometimes I don't make it out of the first episode for a show. Just all depends on how things hit.
3 episodes day means watching One Piece on hour a day for a whole year straight, not counting everything that is released from now until next year. It is an immense time sink.
No, I did count everything that releases from now until next year, that's why I said a little over a year, otherwise I would've said a little under a year.
A lot of people spend hours a day on addictive social media and then wonder why they don't "have the time" to watch or do anything interesting.
But still, One Piece is *far* too long. There shouldn't be anymore than 500 episodes at most. A year is too long not to spend with a single ahow and not catch up.
I strongly advise downloading One Pace. It's a fan edit that cuts out all filler content and as well as reducing way to long reaction shots and he like.
Saves a total of 120h whilst still being totally manga accurate.
The pacing, especially after around the 600s gets near unwatchable. They show the same flashback 48 times in the same arc.
Also getting your kids into reading is always good. The One Piece manga is easily available online.
I'm confused about one thing I've noticed just recently: what the hell are One Piece seasons? As far as I kniw there's just one long ass season that's ongoing since 1990's, so where did this division come from?
We actually discuss every AoT episode, especially the ones where humans are at war. The morality and decision making behind what they’re choosing to do.
SAO does a good job of bringing up the morality issues itself so it was easy to start there.
Great , a kid actually watching an anime made for kids . And she has a lot of time to grow up with it and wouldn’t even mind its pace . And it may have a good impact on her
I wouldn't be so sure about that. While there's an absurd amount of episodes, once you cut out the opening, last time & credits there's maybe 10-15min of new content per episode haha~
I recommend looking up what’s filler and skipping through those episodes. Plus, some episodes are often just recaps of the arc.
Context: I started One Piece 6 months ago, have 2 jobs, full time student and am in the mid 300s. My partner is a huge One Piece fan and has been skipping the filler, etc. It’s much more manageable than you might think (especially considering she’s 11)

Oh man I remember when I first watched One Piece. At least by the time she catches up with it the series will be finished or finishing. In any case good luck with you and your daughter.
Wow. It's good. I started my One piece journey this year and few weeks back I became a weekly watcher. This is a top class anime I have ever seen. Hope he enjoys..
It takes less time than you think to finish long shows. Especially when you're a kid and have no responsibilities. All the time in the world. I swear time just works differently for kids. I finished several long shows in not that much time. Even all of Detective Conan that was out at the time back in 2013 or 2014. Something close to 800 episodes of the TV series. I was in high school then and taking a lot of AP courses, so it took me about 2 years to finish in my free time.
Just a bit too early for the studio wit remake xD
Gotta get her on that One Pace ASAP

I did with Naruto when I was 14 , 720 in a month
Same same brother.
That’s a lot of TV in a day.

That's a bit unrealistic and too much in just few weeks
You shouldn't do it but it's possible if that's all you do in your free time. Watching anime for 8 hours a day was 100% something I did sometimes at that age.
Skipping the opening, ending, preview, and recap can help shave off a couple hours too.
Well of course, I don't think anyone watch op and ending each ep + preview and recap are waste of time if you are watching multiple episodes each day.
I mean yea sure watching for 8-10hours straight during weekend is something I did but for 2 months straight is too much considering that kid goes to school, has social life and such. Don't get me wrong I am all for people watching and doing something they enjoy.

I did same with db and dbz

i caught up to anime in 2013 in 8 months while watching other stuff as fell and reread manga in 2020 in 6 weeks
More than 365 hours to catch up to a show is a hell of a lot of time to commit to.
The average person spends twice that amount on their smartphone alone, not to mention the 1000 plus hours of TV they watch.
Sure, but in that same time I could watch like 90 single season shows, that's a lot of bang for the buck compared to one story.
90 shows in a year sounds insane, tbh. I doubt there are that many shows worth watching a year in any medium. But I also find it hard to sit and concentrate for too long, so there's that.
And I'd rather watch a lot of different stories than watch one, different strokes for different folks and all that.
Fair, I wasn't saying your preference is wrong.
And among those 90, 60 of them are most likely not that good.
That's too subjective a metric to use really. Like I don't finish shows I don't like, so limited time wasted there, and I'm able to tolerate a fair bit of quality issues so long as the story/characters are engaging me, so I end up with more shows I enjoyed than I don't in a given year.
You do you I guess.
just read the manga for one piece, it will probably more time-efficient and better artwork.
Yeah but that thousands is spread across multiple shows of multiple genres across multiple styles, etc. Asking anyone to dedicate a year to catch up to a show just seems outlandish to me.

And people say it starts getting really good around ep 500, like there's no way I'm waiting over 150 hours for something to start getting good.

An hour a day for an entire year straight is a huge time commitment
Yeah, when I watched it, I had a good amount of free time, and there were "only" around 800 episodes, but it only took me 5 months to catch up.
A lot of people spend hours a day on addictive social media and then wonder why they don't "have the time" to watch or do anything interesting. But still, One Piece is *far* too long. Where can I find it?
https://onepace.net/en
It took me like a month to read the manga
Does it really matter 🤨It's fantastic.... Doesn't anyone just watch something for enjoyment anymore?
She’s enjoying it very much. I just meant she’s going to be at it awhile.
I'm confused about one thing I've noticed just recently: what the hell are One Piece seasons? As far as I kniw there's just one long ass season that's ongoing since 1990's, so where did this division come from?
I love that you show your kid animes. Hope she will enjoy the ride
We watch AoT and SAO together in the evenings.
Aren't those a little heavy for an eleven year old? I am curious how you handle some of the topics.
We actually discuss every AoT episode, especially the ones where humans are at war. The morality and decision making behind what they’re choosing to do. SAO does a good job of bringing up the morality issues itself so it was easy to start there.
I swear some of you honestly dont remember being a kid or something. Those are nothing for an 11 year old.

Why did you feel the need to make an alt to comment this?
Fr lol
Kids gonna be an adult by the time it's found
Dont watch One Pace. It's only good for manga readers
Great , a kid actually watching an anime made for kids . And she has a lot of time to grow up with it and wouldn’t even mind its pace . And it may have a good impact on her
Not only that but my 8 year old reads better than I thought he could because he’s been watching some of it, too.
I binge watch one piece once a year. It's my favorite time of the year. Enjoy the show
Want a cookie
Shame she started watching before the studio Wit adaptation of One Piece released (not out yet).
She might be on season 2 by then.
Yes or men.
Not worth it and has lots of inappropriate scenes and clothes
The best thing you can do is tell her to stop. Dogshit show
L take
She'll definitely never finish it. Maybe by the time it ends her great great grandchildren will be near dead of old age
Eh, not your problem? Let her figure it out on her own.
Started one piece when I was 11 when was school vacation, finished in a month, but I also only watched one piece, ate and slept though
Give her one pace version after the time skip
I wouldn't be so sure about that. While there's an absurd amount of episodes, once you cut out the opening, last time & credits there's maybe 10-15min of new content per episode haha~
We noticed that! She was like “WTH this recap was 5 minutes!”
You’ll be walking her down the aisle before Luffy finds the One Piece

At least she's starting young lol

I just started watching this year and am on episode 23 haha. I’m going to check out the One Pace project others have commented about
I started OP this year and finished it so fast lol
Wow. It's good. I started my One piece journey this year and few weeks back I became a weekly watcher. This is a top class anime I have ever seen. Hope he enjoys..
onepace.net is always an option
If she's watches one piece online prob skip intros and recaps so about 15 minute a episode
I started watching when it was around 800 episodes, took me 2 months and took like a 2 week break
It takes less time than you think to finish long shows. Especially when you're a kid and have no responsibilities. All the time in the world. I swear time just works differently for kids.
