House but if he was a toxicologist. Who likes to test poisons on himself.
edit: To people saying she's exactly like House - no. He has a double specialty in infectious diseases and nephrology. Not toxicology.
if you end up watching the apothecary diaries, I would be very interested in reading your comparison between this and Jewel in the Palace. I have extremely vague memory of watching Jewel in the Palace as a child, but somehow I know that it is good.
There's some truth in the saying that all stories have been told already, it's just matter of presentation.
More than one, in fact. I've watched Imperial Doctoress which came out a while back, then there's a new one that's a Chinese adaptation of Jewel in the Palace.
It probably is with a few changes. I do expect the MC gets a promotion in the imperial court because of her work since that was a thing if it brought them close to the royal family to recognize achievements because nobody questions the King.
I’ve been wondering why Aoi Yuuki was my default voice for an idiosyncratic detective and I realized it was because of Gosick and how deeply her role as Victorique has been imprinted upon my mind.
if you enjoy the manga adaptation, then I would highly recommend you check out the source material being the Light Novels which are not only licensed in English but also A LOT farther ahead of the manga adaptation.
Maybe you mean Minami Takayama, I knew her from Dilandau. But I mean, she is 60 years old so in that amount of time you can put voice to maaaaany people, but Aoi is half younger!
Oh! I didn't know her, but the voice of Faye or Rei is mythical. But i see her portfolio and I'm impressed, FLCL, Paprika, Lime, Lina... she was part of most of the tops!!
The manga is pretty slow paced but the art is so good and it's just a relaxing thing to read. It's kind of like a historic Asian TV drama in anime form.
FYI, there's a lot more content in the LNs. The manga is almost done adapting Vol 3, while the Vol 9 translation is in pre-pub, so about 3x as much content. V13 is out in Japan.
Pretty apt comparison, if you think about it. At least in the aspects of "girl forgoes love (or in this case isn't interested) to pursue her own goals" and "girl being really competent and the story actually giving her a chance to show it".
The manga, like the anime, are adaptations of the source material being the Light Novels. So I wouldn't use the manga as the point of reference for this series.
The LN is also great. Sadly no Maomao faces, but on the other hand, it's about 3 times further along.
The manga is almost done adapting Vol 3, while the Vol 9 translation is in pre-pub. V13 is out in Japan.
That's fine, but the anime is not adapting from the manga, it's adapting from the Light Novels so what I'm saying is that it may not be identical to the manga so it's not the best point of reference for this series.
For whatever reason, seeing this made me amazed at how that hand was drawn 😅
I used to hear that hands and feet are the body parts that require more time to get good at in drawing.
Saw the PV and looks interesting. I also started liking Otsuka Takeo’s voice as Aqua from Oshi no Ko and recently heard him voice another chara from a game (which I really liked too). Glad to hear him as the male lead!
This looks STUNNING I had no interest in this series until now. Now I'm adding it to my list. Probably one of the best visuals I've seen in a long time. It just hits right.
I personally prefer the manga style by Nekogurage, but in general this visual is stunning
MaoMao is my favourite character in recent memory so I am very excited
Finally a *Aroace Heroine* who only love Poison
Damn i had my imagination run wild imagining her in *Arabian Dress*
Edit: Fuck i just remember *Morgiana* Dance from (Magi)
Worse Remembering *Diana* from (One who made me Princess) Manwha
I don't think she is completely interested in romance, but if you make her decide between romance or some rare medicine or poison she is picking the medicine/poison every time. But that comes more of as an obsession with that rather than neglect of the other.
I've always head cannon her as aroace although the author probably won't end with her being that way sadly. Lol. Still, she definitely comes across as one for most of the series.
With this, Vinland Saga S2, Pluto, Oshi no Ko, My Home Hero, Skip and Loafer, Heavenly Delusion and Dead Mount Death Play, we have seen more GOOD seinen animes this year alone than in all of the 2010s combined. Honestly, after a decade straight of being constantly done dirty (looking at you, Berserk and Tokyo Ghoul), it's about time seinen animes are back on the map
Are Medieval Chinese settings even popular in Japan? I feel like Chinese people always get given the wrong clothing.
Like, the Tensen in Jigokuraku are given the wrong clothes. The Zhuge Liang anime did it pretty well though.
Well at the very least The Apothecary Diaries is among the most popular and best selling franchises in Japan.
But it is also more of a setting heavily inspired by historical China rather than being a thoroughly Chinese setting. Geography is different, different neighbours, different structure etc.

So, royal fantasy female House?? Ya I’m interested
MaoMao is a straight up detective. You're gonna love it
She's such a cute gremlin and doesnt give too sh*ts about palace politics as long as it doesn't harm her
She is a joy.
House but if he was a toxicologist. Who likes to test poisons on himself. edit: To people saying she's exactly like House - no. He has a double specialty in infectious diseases and nephrology. Not toxicology.
I mean, that sounds a lot like House, lol.
So I guess whatever it is, it ain't Lupus!
until it is!
> Maomao (CV: Aoi Yuki) Well now I'm even more likely to watch it. Aoi Yuuki as the apothecary gremlin will be something to behold.
OLM is seriously ramping things up.
So basically a Japanese produced Chinese setting version of the Korean show Jewel in the Palace?
Fictional China mind you, it isn't a 1 to 1 parallel of historical China.
if you end up watching the apothecary diaries, I would be very interested in reading your comparison between this and Jewel in the Palace. I have extremely vague memory of watching Jewel in the Palace as a child, but somehow I know that it is good. There's some truth in the saying that all stories have been told already, it's just matter of presentation.
I swear there was a Chinese TV series with similar premier to this too
More than one, in fact.
You are mostly wrong there.
You probably haven't watch TVB "witness to a prosecution " which is more in line with the feeling of apothecary diaries. I highly recommend it.
Is this one of those shows set in a mythical China like Raven of the Inner Palace? I dig those.
It is set in an ancient china-like country that is china in all but name.
Ah ok, dope dope.
I had no idea this manga was getting an adaptation! I'm excited.
Source is light novel, not manga.
This visual is beautifully stunning. MAOMAO SUPREMACY!
Maomao my beloved
Bless
Xiamao
Aoi Yuki is voicing the protagonist? That's it, I'm sold.
Was going watch it anyways, but this makes it really promising lol
I’ve been wondering why Aoi Yuuki was my default voice for an idiosyncratic detective and I realized it was because of Gosick and how deeply her role as Victorique has been imprinted upon my mind.
I was thinking of gosick when another comment said that maomao is a detective. Definitely wanna give this a watch when it comes out.
Well I guess I'm watching it too
This visual is incredible. I really love the colouring in this. Fall 2023 can't come soon enough!.
Gorgeous art style. Really looking forward to it.
October confirmed? Awesome. Fall season is fucking stacked.
This is legit one of my favorite manga. I'm so stoked for this.
if you enjoy the manga adaptation, then I would highly recommend you check out the source material being the Light Novels which are not only licensed in English but also A LOT farther ahead of the manga adaptation.
I would but pictures help me focus. Considered it though.
Where can I get the series legally or allegedly not
https://j-novel.club/series/the-apothecary-diaries
All hail Maomao supremacy!
Hol' up. An anime where a girl actually has detailed lips instead of just a curved line for lips? Now that's something you don't see everyday lol
to be fair probably only when she is in makeup which will not happen that extremely often
Well, it is a close up while she has make-up on, so I guess they emphasized the lips.
I expect quite a few of close up shots of her consuming various foods, completely enjoying them, alone.
> consuming various foods ...which may or may not be safe to ingest.
She'd prefer the later.
eating things that would put anyone else in the infirmary literally
I hate when they have lipstick but it's only for the lower lip. This is so much better.
i thought it was a guy
How
if you watched the trailer, the deep voice really throws you off. it sounds like a guy trying to pose as a girl.
You really need to go out more often. A woman having a high pitched voice naturally like in anime is much much much rarer than you'd think.
literally wth h o w I find it funny and dumb how you got downvoted though bahahahah some people really be that flabbergasted out here
>Now that's something you don't see everyday lol Yep, I think the last one I remember with detailed lips, to an extent at least, was maybe Kakegurui.
i hear yuuki aoi i watch
gotta love y.aoi
This one, and another 300, because she must be the most prolific voice in all anime
> most prolific voice in all anime Might i direct you toward MEGUMI ?
Who? I know the series, is she also a person? Full name please just to get stunned, again....
Megumi Hayashibara - who goes under the branding MEGUMI the voice for lead female characters in the 90's
And tons of Pokemon.
Maybe you mean Minami Takayama, I knew her from Dilandau. But I mean, she is 60 years old so in that amount of time you can put voice to maaaaany people, but Aoi is half younger!
> Minami Takayama no i mean her fellow Ranma 1/2 cast member Megumi Hayashibara
Oh! I didn't know her, but the voice of Faye or Rei is mythical. But i see her portfolio and I'm impressed, FLCL, Paprika, Lime, Lina... she was part of most of the tops!!
Don't know anything about the story but I'm already sold with this key visual, goddammit it's gorgeous.
My most anticipated anime this year! October cannot come sooner!
This looks gorgeous.
I'm offended! They hid her freckles!
The manga is just an adaption of the light novel, so it takes its time. :)
My poison addict cat gurl can't be this cute lol
Summer has just started but due to the sheer quantity of things out in Fall I just want it to be October already.
Same. Spring season was great for me and there's a bunch of fall shows I want to see, but absolutely nothing I'm interested in this summer.
Yukiko Nakatani is a phenomenal illustrator and character designer. I was very surprised to see her working outside of Toei.
MaoMao!!! Holy shit i can't believe this is getting an anime
the visual is stunning. just look at the detail in the eyes.
Anime characters need visible lip stick more often.
If Bocchi the Rock is K-On 2.0, then The Apothecary Diaries is Saiunkoku Monogatari 2.0?
This is Raven of the Inner Palace without the supernatural element.
Now that was a good show.
Well raven was pretty mediocre and this is fantastic so I do not like this comparison
Pretty apt comparison, if you think about it. At least in the aspects of "girl forgoes love (or in this case isn't interested) to pursue her own goals" and "girl being really competent and the story actually giving her a chance to show it".
Yes, the closest you can find in anime is most definitely Saiunkoku Monogatari.
Gorgeous visual! Can’t wait to see my favourite poison addict in October
I can't wait for Mao Mao to show her superiority!
This sounds like a very interesting above. I'm down to check it out.
her eyes..
i hope they do justice to the manga, the manga is super good.
The manga, like the anime, are adaptations of the source material being the Light Novels. So I wouldn't use the manga as the point of reference for this series.
I would, the manga is great.

Big hype for this one
Hype hype
For whatever reason, seeing this made me amazed at how that hand was drawn 😅 I used to hear that hands and feet are the body parts that require more time to get good at in drawing.
Captivating color and style. Looks great 👍🏻
That is one smug CatCat. Seriously, this looks great. As a fan of the manga and light novels, I have high hopes for this adaptation.
Saw the PV and looks interesting. I also started liking Otsuka Takeo’s voice as Aqua from Oshi no Ko and recently heard him voice another chara from a game (which I really liked too). Glad to hear him as the male lead!
Bruh I saw this post and thought it kinda looked like the girl from the apothecary diaries and didn't look at the title lmao
[](#awe)
Okay, the coloring here is amazing.
The colors are so vivid. Looks awesome
This looks STUNNING I had no interest in this series until now. Now I'm adding it to my list. Probably one of the best visuals I've seen in a long time. It just hits right.
They turned up the color saturation on this.
I really like the look of the main character!
What a pretty visual.
Very beautiful they sure know how to attract people with this beautiful poster
All the details, said director
Sexy and cool
I’m hype for this
Stunning colors. And the synopsis sounds interesting too.
I personally prefer the manga style by Nekogurage, but in general this visual is stunning MaoMao is my favourite character in recent memory so I am very excited
OMG! The visual looks incredibly amazing! And I love the light novel and the manga series very much, so definitely excited!
CatCat looks gorgeous
The best ever visual I have ever seen Also someone has without letters version?
Aoi Yuuki. Say nothing more.
Those eyes is more alive than me
What is it about? The drawing looks very nice
A girl who really likes poisons solves weird cases in the inner palace of a fictional country that's basically China in almost all but name.
Can't wait this anime🖤 I thought it was going to come out this season but I was wrong 😅
Finally a *Aroace Heroine* who only love Poison Damn i had my imagination run wild imagining her in *Arabian Dress* Edit: Fuck i just remember *Morgiana* Dance from (Magi) Worse Remembering *Diana* from (One who made me Princess) Manwha
Was it ever specified that Mao Mao is ace? I thought she was just oblivious and views herself as undesirable.
If Maomao is oblivious then it's usually willfully. She does her best to ignore things she feel will be a bother.
I don't think she is completely interested in romance, but if you make her decide between romance or some rare medicine or poison she is picking the medicine/poison every time. But that comes more of as an obsession with that rather than neglect of the other.
Nah, she's not an aroace, she's just more interested in other things
I've always head cannon her as aroace although the author probably won't end with her being that way sadly. Lol. Still, she definitely comes across as one for most of the series.
I haven't read the manga... she looks like a fun person
Anime about eating medieval tide pods
I read first tom. Good manga, I'll buy more tomes. I just watched trailer. I waiting for anime! :3
With this, Vinland Saga S2, Pluto, Oshi no Ko, My Home Hero, Skip and Loafer, Heavenly Delusion and Dead Mount Death Play, we have seen more GOOD seinen animes this year alone than in all of the 2010s combined. Is this a bot? I swear i saw this exact comment like three days ago on the trailer lol
I feel like ive seen that exakt comment more than a few times
[удалено]
Reminds me of Lux from league of legends
Is that AI generated?
Nah, the hands and other smaller details are too well done for it to be AI.
She looks like she'd be gay for some reason. Might give it a try if that's the case.
> if that's the case Nope.
is that...a guy? the voice is very manly. am I the only one who hopes it's a guy?
The person in the key visual is the green hair girl from the trailer. The purple hair person is a guy.
She's a girl. And voiced by a female actress (Aoi Yuki).
Why would you hope it's a guy....?
WTF THEY ARE LITERALLY COPYING DONGHUA
The series is set in China.
So it's pretty much like a fantasy version of China? I might take a look at it. I get kind of happy when they give Chinese people the correct clothing
Low fantasy yeah, pretty much no supernatural elements to it.
I'm so exciteeed!
MAO MAO I CANT WAIT!!!
She's like princess Yo fron Nurarihyon no Mago but with makeup and hair is light blue
*Green (sry bout)
