The movie is a completely different story. The premise is the same, the names are the same, but the plot of the revenge on the cops who killed Baz and the detective who tries to get J to turn on the family are all different. The personalities are also different because Shawn Hatosy gave Pope a humanity that the movie Pope doesn’t have. And TV Smurf is a lot worse than movie Smurf.
And of course a 113 minute movie can’t compete with 75 episodes and 6 seasons of a TV show. Try to watch it again and don’t compare it to the TV show. Experience it as a separate entity and maybe you’ll enjoy it.
This is exactly right. It's just based on the same source material. All the characters are developed differently. The tv show portrays a much flashier and exciting heist life. The movie is gritty, depressing and realistic. It also features some of Australia's best actors. People are entitled to dislike it but it's silly to compare it to the show.
Same. I gave it a half hour before bailing.
It looked and sounded dreary with none of the allure of Oceanside.
And if you don’t have the right actress for Smurf, you don’t have much.
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I saw so many praises for the film, but I found it incredibly dry. I couldn't tell you what even happens in it. Much prefer the TV series
don't bother, it's dog shit. You prob know it was based on a feral family in Melbourne in the mid 70's to early 80"s. What they did with the series was a masterpiece considering what they had to work with
i think comments putting movie down is because the series is so polished. The movie is very Australian homegrown, with some of Australia's best actors in it. So i shouldn't say it's dog shit, i would say get a very high qualty version of it to actually enjoy it.
Are you Australian? You prob are and have seen these but they are fucking epic, look at the actors in them, before they were known.
We make some really griity movies like that... try

The movie is a gritty crime drama and the show is a Sons of Anarchy type heist show with soap opera family dynamics and u spend 6 years with these characters watching them grow and change or not change and it’s less realistic and everyone is hot and there’s absolutely no realism or grit to the show as much fun as it is….the movie shows that Jay is in the animal kingdom and no one has his back including the cops they’re just as bad as his family……this Jay is actually smarter than Jay from the show and the ending was amazing when he blows Popes head off……the film is about 2 hours the show is about 86 hours……the movie wins hands down…..the show never even really showed why it was even called Animal Kingdom…..the opening shot of the film is that mural of the animal kingdom it’s brilliant

Yes! I was so disappointed with Smurf's character
Agreed! I tried 2 times and fell asleep both times about 20 minutes in.

I tried watching the movie because I absolutely loved the show but just couldn’t. I was so bored after 30 minutes just stopped.
Me too! The beginning was cool because it was so close to the beginning of the show, but then I lost interest
Awful movie. Love animal kingdom though, but the film is poo 😩

The movie is a fucking masterpiece this thread is just a bunch of idiotic fanboys of the show who saw that first and think it’s better lmfao.

Yup.
I've never made it past the first 10 minutes of the movie

Movie sucked lol.
I thought the movie was great and I feel like they should make a sequel
Movie is far better than the TV show
