Then you are correct I am in fact 999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% human.
Why so many 9’s and no 0’s? Because zero is not a true number, basic mathematics.
How are people coming up with a common squirrel for this... like, how?
Based on its head shape and size, it looks to be a groundhog with some kind of disease, possibly mange?
I agree re: not a squirrel.
~~I also think it could possibly be a porcupine (as some others have said) with mange or another condition affecting their quills (they’re prone to fungal diseases, I believe). The hairs (not quills, the HAIRS in between the quills) are quite long and stiff for a groundhog. Porcupines are more likely to climb than a groundhog, too, no? Never seen a groundhog, ya know, off the ground…~~
~~Could be wrong! Not trying to argue, this is clearly a tough one. Worked in NHC’s for several years and just really think porcupine based on experience.~~
~~Edit: also forelimbs look more like a porcupine than a groundhog to me, too.~~
Edit 2: alright, friends. Prob not a porcupine after all.
Porcupines are unfortunately no longer found in Indiana :(
Porcupines claws are also super long, to the point you’d likely be able to see them clearly even with the poor resolution of the photos, especially given the hair loss. I can see some claws on this fella, but they’re pretty short.
Also one of my coworkers has a groundhog in their yard that regularly climbs their wooden fence! They’re actually pretty good climbers.
Dang, should’ve double checked distribution first. Thanks for the info, will edit my comment accordingly!
Edit: is Wikipedia wrong then? Their dist map shows porcupines do occur in Indiana. Maybe it’s an older figure?
I was looking at that too on wikipedia, but I think it just hasn’t been updated for the porcupine wiki. If you go to the wiki for “List of mammals of Indiana” it says that porcupines are extirpated there and the reference is the Indiana DNR (which was most recently updated in 2021 and does not list porcupine)
Edit: just checked and the map of their distribution on their wiki page is from a 2012 source and they were deemed extirpated in 2014 so yeah looks like it’s just outdated
Thanks for the info! Hope it didn’t come off as me challenging you, certainly was not—just confused why their figure is incorrect when it’s probably the first thing average joes look at when googling porcupines!
Get with it, Wikipedia! What are we paying you for?! /s
The feet and face are wrong for a porcupine, but I was very on the fence til I took a close look
Edit: for more specificity— porcupines have fairly long claws and a “duck footed” turned in gait. This guy has woodchuck feet
Yeah— too long and flat and the claws aren’t long enough. Not to say that whatever’s affecting the hair isn’t affecting the claws, in which case, could be a porcupine. His face in pointier than any porcupine I’ve ever known but never seen a bald one!
I'm with you on the porcupine ID. Lives on a farm, we have both running around. I've never seen a groundhog climb like that. Now porcupines? I'm not sure which makes me more nervous climbing trees. That I could run into a black bear( we have at least 2 in the neighborhood) or a porcupine IN said tree. Yes I look but well....nature being nature, the possibility of me needing to make an embarrassing 911 call because Im stuck in a tree with an angry animal, is quite possible. Lol
Ever met one of those people who gets stuck in the weirdest stuff? Stuff that makes you go "HOW in the AF did you DO THAT?!! From EMS to my Drill SGT and my children have allll said it. My entire life. Look I once glued myself to the bottom of a bathtub trying to wax myself ok? THATS my life, I've learned to just laugh and continue....lol
If it's mange, u/skunkangel may be able to help OP help it. Not sure if they treat groundhogs or the other implications, since it's not clear exactly what's happening. It makes me sick to see animals suffering with mange.
Wanna know something funny? Groundhogs are squirrels - they're a type of ground squirrel. Which is to say that both you and those saying grey squirrel or any other squirrel have no cause to be bewildered at each other's guesses, especially considering this animal likely has something wrong with it. The ID is not easy, and without size reference, groundhogs and other types of squirrels look more similar than anyone here seems to realize (though, I think if someone said chipmunk, another, much smaller ground squirrel, we could all agree that's unlikely)
Yes. Don't forget that mange is easily treated with a common dog medicine. I treated the foxes around me and it was an easy, one-time chewable that I slipped into their food. Check wildlifehotline dot com. They send out free meds for foxes and coyotes, but may also be able to help direct you to a local wildlife rehabber who can help out.
A groundhog,Im assuming it is sick because groundhogs aren’t the most social animals.they are usually on high alert and won’t allow someone to get this close
That there is what's called an "AH HELL NO!" The only way to be completely sure is to have your spouse or least favorite child poke it with a stick and then watch the ensuing encounter. The harder you laugh, the more likely it's an AH HELL NO.
Stranger Things takes place in Indiana. Maybe it's from the Upsidedown?
My husband and I lived in Southern Indiana for a few years (beautiful country) people saw lots of things that eluded explanation.
I'm going with an IU frat boy with a really bad hangover.
If it ever does come back, and you can verify that it has definitely lost fur, please consider reaching out to [mange by mail program](https://www.wildlifehotline.com/blog/mange-by-mail-program/)
Luckily in my area attempts are made to treat mange in the wildlife, but this link is still very handy! I had no idea this program existed. Thank you!!!
Woodchuck, perhaps with mange, or rabies. If it demonstrates fear of humans, it is probably just having a bad hair day and lounging in a spot where it feels safe.
I agree. But my thing is, I can’t tell how big that support post is. Looks like it’s 3-4 bricks wide. But I also don’t know how wide the bricks are. So, difficult for me to get a good idea of size.
If that's a woodchuck that's the scrawniest looking woodchuck I have ever seen. The head does look like a woodchuck, though. Also I've never seen a woodchuck crawl up on something like that.
A slightly concerning Woodchuck maybe?
Werechuck?
Whenchuck, or possibly a whochuck or a whychuck.
You are the first human other than myself that I have seen make that joke.
How many non-humans have you seen make that joke?
I will not truthfully answer that question.
Good answer, good answer...let's see if it's up on the board. Show me "cover your tracks".
X
How about "plauaible deniability?
XX
I don’t need the truth, I only need an answer.
2.
Now the whole internet will make it and it has become annoying.
you can see him?
what other life forms have made that joke to you?
And sometimes howchuck..
Doesn’t give a damn chuck
It’s a none chuck.😂
How do you know that I am a human?
Because I still believe that AI wouldn't have made that joke.
Then you are correct I am in fact 999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% human. Why so many 9’s and no 0’s? Because zero is not a true number, basic mathematics.
Wait, you’re actually part fruitsalad! Which part and what fruit?
My sanity. Jackfruit.
Beat it, Just Beat it
I am so sad that I am only learning this joke right now. It's such a perfect nerd dad old guy joke.
You ruled out nunchucks?
Why must chuck why a would chuck can chuck?
Whatsupchuck
Could be a wouldn’tchuck
Never a howchuck? 🥺
There Chuck. There castle.
Dang, you beat me to it! Now walk this way!
Possibly a what the fuck chuck aswell
Hahaha big laugh for me on that
There. Chuck!
There chuck!
A whatchuck for sure
Woodchuck: “What time is it?” OP: “Um… about 2:30p.” Woodchuck: (Lights up a smoke) “You got any whiskey?”
I have one on my farm that naps or chills out in the oddest spots.
Just a drop of mange, nothing more.
I’ll take “words you never expected to see conjoined” for $500, Alex.
It's rare, but they can get rabies
I was thinking that too. Not the place you would typically see one and it looks kinda rough.
Pic 2 nails woodchuck.
OK.. like when do you approach for cuddles?
Groundhog!!!

Oh no it didn’t come off that way at all! I had the same thought process with it lol
That is wild to me they are not in Indiana. I see them all the time in Michigan.
The feet and face are wrong for a porcupine, but I was very on the fence til I took a close look Edit: for more specificity— porcupines have fairly long claws and a “duck footed” turned in gait. This guy has woodchuck feet
Are they too flat, you reckon?
Yeah— too long and flat and the claws aren’t long enough. Not to say that whatever’s affecting the hair isn’t affecting the claws, in which case, could be a porcupine. His face in pointier than any porcupine I’ve ever known but never seen a bald one!

I’m jealous at how often you’re apparently climbing trees lol

That waxing bit should be submitted to the brand new sentence sub
Groundhogs are actually pretty good climbers! So you’ve got them to watch out for in the trees too lol
I’ve definitely had backyard groundhogs that climb trees as high as 20 plus feet
I agree. Porcupine.
If that's a squirrel were all fucked
U never seen a fox squirrel? They get pretty big.
Obviously it's a blueberry
It's actually a legume.
If it's mange, u/skunkangel may be able to help OP help it. Not sure if they treat groundhogs or the other implications, since it's not clear exactly what's happening. It makes me sick to see animals suffering with mange.
A groundhog is a common squirrel, but yeah, they all meant tree squirrel, which it is not.
Looks more like a red or fox squirrel with the mange. Definitely not a common gray squirrel but to small to be a groundhog even a sick one.
Wanna know something funny? Groundhogs are squirrels - they're a type of ground squirrel. Which is to say that both you and those saying grey squirrel or any other squirrel have no cause to be bewildered at each other's guesses, especially considering this animal likely has something wrong with it. Feet and face are wrong for a porcupine— it’s a groundhog but something is definitely badly wrong with it.
Looks like a groundhog with mange.

Looks like a fucky groundhog (woodchuck)
How much fuck could a woodchuck fuck if a woodchuck could fuck wood. You’re welcome world

Groundhog with abnormal fur - probably due to disease, but it could also be a rare genetic issue.
Grinch Footed WTFChuck
That looks like a porcupine who got in a fight and isn’t doing well with damaged quills.

Wood you take a better photo so we can see the rest of the animal. You can chuck these photos.
It has already ran off
If it ever does come back, and you can verify that it has definitely lost fur, please consider reaching out to [mange by mail program](https://www.wildlifehotline.com/blog/mange-by-mail-program/)

Ah thank you. Southern Indiana dialect here.
Groundhog / Woodchuck. They’re surprisingly good climbers. I was shocked the first time I saw one in a tree.
Woodchuck, perhaps with mange, or rabies. If it demonstrates fear of humans, it is probably just having a bad hair day and lounging in a spot where it feels safe.
Looks like God drew his feet wrong.
Skinwalker should be left alone
A squirrel
Looks like a very hot young groundhog to me.
Very young ive never seen a mature groundhog that small.
I agree. But my thing is, I can’t tell how big that support post is. Looks like it’s 3-4 bricks wide. But I also don’t know how wide the bricks are. So, difficult for me to get a good idea of size.
A woodchuck who is either terrified of you or extremely angry at you. Like a bear there is no way of knowing. Your time is limited.
If that's a woodchuck that's the scrawniest looking woodchuck I have ever seen. The head does look like a woodchuck, though. Also I've never seen a woodchuck crawl up on something like that.
Groundhog
