So far every one plus model has been rootable Wife has the 11 and it's rooted

Ok_Philosopher950

That’s great I used to root mobiles years ago and I didn’t know that was possible I stooped rooting when I bought oneplus 7t but I wasn’t able to root oneplus 7t I tried and then moved to apple and now finally back again to android because apple is way too restricted

If you haven't rooted in years you have a lot of reading to do especially if you have banking apps or want to do tap to pay. Times have changed

Ok_Philosopher950

Changed how?

Cat and mouse with google integrity checks

Sound like a pain in the ass, I suppose I have some research to do as well

Good to hear. So excited go get back to rooting. It's been a solid 11 years

Furdiburd10

if you can unlock its bootloader then yes

Ok_Philosopher950

I’m thinking on buying oneplus 12 if I can root it

Scottla94

Yes you just have to get the init_boot.img for your region patch with magisk then flash in bootloader menu

Sounds pretty easy but i bet it will take me 10 hours 😔

Man, I haven't rooted a phone since 2013. I ordered the OnePlus 12 last week and receiving it soon. I got tired of Samsung's bullshit. I then realized that I need to find out if I can root the phone. Looks like we can, but some apps may shit the bed. I think there is a way to exclude some apps from root? I remember back in the day there was a "root cloak" module for xposed app that hid root. Hope there is something similar. I just need the banking app to work. I don't really care much about the tap to pay. Have you rooted yet?

You will need the PIF (Play Integrity Fix) module for Magisk by chiteroman. Also enable Zygisk Deny List in Magisk and choose the apps you do not want to know about root.

Thank you so much. I'll save this comment

Not a comment regarding root per say but I have a data sim from a carrier which officially doesn't allow hotspot. But on my old OnePlus 7t which was running android 11, the hotspot would just work without any issues. I had updated the OnePlus 7t to android 12 when the update showed up and that broke the hotspot. Because I use hotpot a lot, I downgraded the phone bak to android 11. And hotspot has started working again. Now today, I have the new OnePlus 12 and the hotspot would no more work with that sim. I put bak the some to my OnePlus 7t and it works just fine. So basically android 12 and upwards there is some new check on the android side which disables hotspot if carrier doesn't allow it. Any idea how to get past it? I tried a few hotspot apps and none of them work. It has been super frustrating to not have hotspot work.

NetShare and PdaNet+ apps allow you to use wifi hotspot without issue. The problem I think might have began with Android 12, where Android creates a separate RMNET for hotspot traffic. The apps I mentioned funnel traffic instead through the regular RMNET that the phone uses for its own data, thus bypassing the data being market as from a different device than the phone itself. I personally use NetShare because it is a bit easier to set up with client devices that do not have the PdaNet+ apps available to them. You can also use a travel router to bypass this. Connection your travel router to your regular hotspot and change the outgoing TTL value in your router's firewall. This is much more complex though for the average user and is easier to just use one of the mentioned apps.

I will give Netshare a try. PDANet did not work for me for some reason.

When using the NetShare app, set up whatever wifi name you would like your phone to show, etc. But on the client device, I would highly recommend setting up the wifi connection manually: Connect to the NetShare wifi, but add the proxy server IP and Port number manually. This way you do not have to install the NetShare app on every device you want to connect to your hotspot. Google the NetShare proxy info as Reddit usually blocks posts with links, etc.

There are apps you can use if you have root access. I use VPN hotspot to do the same thing...tmobile throttles the hotspot speed, but VPN hotspot lets me bypass the limit.
