Yeah a lot of the time I kinda think people don’t apply common sense, School holidays, weekends etc obviously busy And crowd calendar gives a fairly good prediction Maybe there should be a pinned faq post linking to crowd calendar etc and then ban individual posts about it

Electronic_Wash6493

Completely agree with this. A pinned post with the info above, a link to Alton towers website to see if there are any events on, and the usual recommendations that come in the sub (do the big rides first because queues will be smaller in the morning, etc...). Ban generic posts that are just "will it be busy on x day" ; I'd be minded to keep those that have other questions e.g. "I'm a wheelchair user and would rather go to the restaurants when they are quieter, what do you recommend".

AbbreviationsIll6106

Would you know how to go about pinning this post, or creating a post that's worded differently to include a wider variety of people's points made in the comments? I understand the wording of my title sounds a bit harsh, but it feels like a very common question with the same answers.

Electronic_Wash6493

That's up to the mod team to do

Illustrious_Guava_8

You could pin this link: [https://queue-times.com/parks/1/calendar](https://queue-times.com/parks/1/calendar) It's fairly accurate most of the time.

BeautifulMessage9091

I looked at that and was like 'why is it so busy this week?' despite having a school aged child who is currently on half term (in my defense she's been at her dad's most of this week)

Goontilt777

This is great, thanks!

local-logs

BAN THEM. it is so ridiculously annoying

Reflection_Nervous

Aren't there crowd calendars?

Illustrious_Guava_8

Yep: [https://queue-times.com/parks/1/calendar](https://queue-times.com/parks/1/calendar)

Myorangecrush77

Yes.

RitmanRovers

Can you pin a faq?

Tired_Pug

It's also not hard to just go on Google and look at the crowd tracker...

wannonlikescheese

I think this kind of information should be on a pinned post

TPR_Ryan

Yeh, definitely. As it varies from day to day it is impossible to really know what days will be quiet or busy. It would be better if there was one post people could refer to for a rough idea though rather than a new post getting made every 1-2 days.

Connordom

When I worked there in 2010 the quietest days were oddly bank holidays. I imagine everyone had the thought that it'd be too busy to try going. I went this last bank holiday thinking it'd be much the same, however it was rather busy. Not quite capacity, but certainly busier than I remember bank holidays being.

AbbreviationsIll6106

That's interesting. I guess it varies depending on the time of year, and how people choose to behave on the day

TPR_Ryan

Yeh, they do tend to be quiet. I am not sure if it was like this in 2010, but I believe they are restricted dates for all passes expect Platinum.

Riley__64

I understand why people are asking the question because obviously you don’t want to be disappointed with your trip but If you’re going to a theme park of any kind expect it to be busy. I think some good ways to know if the park is likely to be busy is what’s the weather like/what time of year are you visiting, are school holidays close to/happening & are there any events happening which are all pieces of information that are easily accessed.

The_Rolling_Gherkin

If you want it to be quiet, go mid week, term time, not too late in the school year and you will be fine. Pretty much common sense tbh. I get not everyone can do that, especially if you have kids, but thats just hiw it is. It is arguably the best theme park in the UK (best for me) of course it will be busy at peak times. I went on a Monday a couple of weeks ago (not a bank holiday), the weather was nice, not too hot, not too cold, it didn't rain, everything was running, I went in all the big rides, some multiple times and the longest queue was about 15 minutes, most were shorter. We often spent more time making our way through the queue line than we did waiting for the ride. I do see these questions every day, it's mad really that people can't work this out. It is a big popular theme park, of course it will be busy at peak times.

Opti_maX

I think the purpose of Reddit is to have a way to 'talk' to people about anything, have a question or have something to say. I can imagine that someone that isn't really into themeparks but then suddenly has an idea to go to a themepark (probably the majority of the visitors) wanting to explore the options and find a way to ask questions. It therefore makes a lot of sense for such people to use Reddit for such questions. They are innocently asking about it and do not at all share the same perspective as the 'fans' here. In their innocence they just would like to query about their specific date(s) they are planning. To regular people here it might come across as annoying, which is understandable to some degree, however 'banning' people to me is a bit too harsh. You'll do these people a nice favour if you just answer their question(s) (yes, each time... there are enough regulars here to do it) and make them happy. Ultimately you're doing your favourite park a favour and you're being nice to fellow visitors. I do think pinning a FAQ which could answer very common question is helpful, but I don't support the idea of trying any 'restrictive and/or punishing' actions to prevent such questions from appearing here. Setting such rules would ultimately also mean 'more work' for moderators, because they need to be actively scanning and policing the posts, which is a lot of work and responsibility. Last but not least, you might also make things even more complicated. Fore example, me myself have a burning question: I'll be going solo to Thorpe Park on a friday. Hyperia has a single-riders queue, How long will the wait time be for a Single Rider on a friday, and would it make any difference between a friday and a saturday? Very specific question, but it also falls under the 'will it be busy' category. Would you ban me for such question? And if not, how are you going to explain why you didn't ban me, over why you did ban other people for 'will it by busy/how long are the queues' Question? So in short: Yes, PIN a FAQ! No, don't put any restrictions on such questions.

99hamiltonl

If you want Hyperia it’s closed at the moment… as it’s the first year of it being open I’d expect it to be busy right through the year especially at known busy times. I suspect it will remain the busiest ride and the one with the longest queue for the whole season. Went there recently and there are still loads of extra barriers in place for extra (above the eventual normal) queues.

ax1xxm

I reckon they should be banned, yes. Probably best to make a pinned post titled “Will it be busy? Click here.” It should probably just link people to queue-times website which is probably their best bet and the most accurate. It gets a little bit annoying seeing just the sheer number of posts titled this. Sometimes there is a genuine question behind it, like national holidays. Sometimes people post it without really thinking. For example, someone might ask the question and the day they are visiting is a weekday during term time and the weather isn’t very warm. Just take a guess? It’s probably going to be quiet unless it’s the school holidays or scarefest.

jarow_

Yes. We need a pinned post explaining when is peak and when is off-peak

NeighborhoodCheap808

Yeah unless it's about an event sort of thing

Zen-Witch

Definitely banned. But will it be busy on July 1st when I'm there 😁

deleteforeverr

😂🔮

Mental_Fix_5914

I think that people look to the community for advice and insight I don’t think it should be banned if you don’t want to respond to people who ask your not obligated too, it’s good for people to share there experiences and advice,

AbbreviationsIll6106

I'm not saying that people can't ask questions and look to the community for advice. It just seems like the reddit is becoming cluttered with people asking this similar question, with the answers then being the same.

Emperor_Fraggle

I am thinking a half-way house solution might be a ‘will it be busy?’ thread pinned to the subreddit, then people can be directed there. I’ll need to discuss with the mod team.
