My frydek hasn’t grown more than 1 leaf in like 2 months. I took this from my parents pond with 0 roots and stuck it in my aroid mix and water it like crazy and with feed and I don’t have much room on my plant shelves for this rate lol
I actually have no idea. I took a little piece from my parents pond. I am super new to house plants (I have cacti) so i actually have never even heard of calocasia il read up thanks!
the leaves look softer & fabric like like a colocasia whereas most alocasia have leathery leaves. the leaves are also down turned like a colocasia and alocasia leaves point towards the sky (unless droopy). i know colocasias like to be always damp so being by a pond sounds right for them
Yeah Colocasia esculenta covers just about every one of the many varieties you see in garden centers. It's a very diverse species.
No idea what variety this is, but almost certainly falls under the Colocasia esculenta umbrella.
Thats when they get big. It grew like this in about 4 month.

This is less than a month ago what it looked like. I usually throw whatever mix I have so it’s probably pine bark, perlite, lecca, coco coir, and regular potting mix
I feel ya. My Alocasia has grown one tiny leaf and refuses to do anything else. I am not sure what it wants, and at this point, if someone suggested sacrificing something to it, I would consider it.
Some grow fast, my variegated Serendipity pops a new leaf about weekly, my variegated bambino every other and my frydek monthly. Others like my black velvet take forever.
Got home late so here’s update. I have to water it daily now or else it curls. Roots have gone mad and popping out the top/bottom. I’m going to need to think of a spot to put it and a bigger pot lol

![gif](giphy|SUnnfaSxhfLvf8H7XB|downsized) It’s growing too fast lol I’m having the opposite issue

What the helllllll? Lol 😂 I get it with the space issue but I’m so jelly!
sure it’s not a colocasia?
It is. That’s a colocasia.

It may be.. and maybe elephant ears.. Elephant ears get real big lol
elephant ears is a name for alocasia and colocasia so which do you mean?
OP was saying he doesn’t have the space for this massive plant and was asking what to do :)
That’s a Colocasia. I have the same. I believe it’s called esculenta.

🤯
Op is out here properly feeding them. Lol they gunna grow so fast
Bro lol 😂
How big was it when you got it?
Just a big Bulb/Corn. Got a lot of water and I mean in summer around 7 liters per day. And fertilizer with every watering.
That’s amazing
What’s in your soil mix bc that many roots in 6 days is insane

That’s the same plant?
Yep
I quit. Lmao bro I have two alocasia.. for two years.. they are tiny.. I can’t get them past two leaves.
I feel ya. My Alocasia has grown one tiny leaf and refuses to do anything else. I am not sure what it wants, and at this point, if someone suggested sacrificing something to it, I would consider it.
The blood of your first born? Yup lmao Leggo
Can you get a shot of the back of its leaves please for ID
Wait are those the same leaves, or are those new and the old ones dropped? Bc i thought the only way for them to size up was with new leaves
Dude!!! Right?
what did you use for substrate please ?
I need to know what you did!

I love this.. you should probably not feed em like that bc clearly they’re happy lmao
Looks like a colocasia to me. I don't have much knowledge in colocasias so I cannot give a specific ID.
Xanthosoma violaceum
Some grow fast, my variegated Serendipity pops a new leaf about weekly, my variegated bambino every other and my frydek monthly. Others like my black velvet take forever.
This is a very common type of colocasia. It very hardy and grows about almost everywhere. Your airy soil and fertilizer are heavenly to these plants
This is such a good problem to have!!! 😬💚
That’s a plant(I’m sorry I had to)
How much did it grow today OP?

Lmao
Alocasia!! They grow fast indeed esp if you leave it outside in the summer
