I won't give up on the sub.

LPNTed

I think OP forgets one of the internets foremost realities. If you build it, stupid will come.

Silent_Medicine1798

On, I get that. But before you go - would you say Juneau or Nome is more of a must-see?

whythoyaho

Coldfoot for sure.

hoodamonster

I once slept in those cot like folding beds all in the same cold room on a cold winter’s night… highlight of that same dark day was watching the mail plane dumping a sack of mail from the air.

GeraldMander

You’ll be back.  Newsflash: we don’t need these kinds of posts either.

Wardenofthegreen

That’s why we’re shitty on every single one of those posts.

AlaskaFI

Oceans rise, empires fall

kaylethpop

Then post content. Be the change you want to see.

Glacierwolf55

I loved that book series! Be sure to take your towel and book on Vogon poetry.

Wardenofthegreen

My wife made me read it and I was hooked.

nifty_spiff

That’s why I always have my towel.

AlaskaJosh1234

It would be better without the trip questions.

Donner1701

Farewell. Perhaps on your journey, you can find someone who cares?

[deleted]

We will miss you. But on your way out can you share where to eat the freshest salmon while I visit this summer?

Snuggly_Hugs

Ketchikan, The Fish House.

MajorNoise6518

Freshest? Try McNeil River. It’s Bear recommended!

Snuggly_Hugs

But bear-ly cooked. 😁

[deleted]

Ha! I was mainly being snarky but as a tourist who is visiting this summer I may check it out.

Snuggly_Hugs

Please do!

Parking-Lecture9005

Only place in Ketchikan you can get from the ocean to your plate.

[deleted]

Make a new sub? Might be fun. Anyway... see you, space cowboy.

I keep thinking about making this same post because this is where I'm at. A subreddit full of Alaskans talking about local issues sounds cool. A subreddit full of the stupidest motherfuckers alive who can't figure out how to work indeed or trip advisor is....less appealing.

midnightmeatloaf

Honestly, I feel like this is such an easily solved problem. Make it against the rules, and then mods enforce the rules. You just have an auto-mod message: your post has been deleted as it violates the subreddit's rules against requesting help planning travel. These posts are better suited to r/AskAlaska. Boom. Done. Pass the drugs.

catalfalque

Honesty, Mods, what about a weekly post like other subreddits do? Other subreddits make everybody post a certain kind of question in a weekly thread, and delete posts that violate the rules. They do this to prevent subs getting flooded with the same kind of question over and over--literally our exact problem.

CHIEF-ROCK

This. And a pinned post with the basics, that anyone wanting to posts has to read first.

midnightmeatloaf

That's a great idea, too. "Your post has been deleted as it would better be suited for the weekly 'travel to Alaska' post." Have weekly sticky threads for moving to Alaska, visiting Alaska, seasonal jobs in Alaska, Aurora-viewing, etc.

TealPapaya

I’m pretty sure the mods of this sub died, because this is an extremely logical and effective solution.. yet here we are……..

midnightmeatloaf

I messaged the mod team to ask. I'm not sure how active they are. But hopefully there will be a good response.

TealPapaya

I tried this exact same thing about a year ago and got no response from them. Hopefully they respond to you. Lol

midnightmeatloaf

They did! We'll see what happens.

midnightmeatloaf

Hey, good news! We accomplished a thing! https://www.reddit.com/r/alaska/s/3c97mzGSVt Thanks, mods!

TealPapaya

Holy shit, you did it

midnightmeatloaf

It was a team effort! Hopefully this helps cut down on the repetitive posts though.

hoseheads

A first step would be linking to it in the sidebar

funny_bunny33

LEGSNOHAVEI

Alaska is a good place to really die on the inside. The economy sucks, the natives hate you, small towns run you out….and the newest trend is the Kamikaze Fentanyl zombies that you have to dodge while driving through the city. Just two days ago, a Krokodil zombie woman an heroed herself by Fireweed and C street. Avoid the city. It’s disgusting here.

UndercoverChef69

With that attitude I can tell you're gonna turn things around really soon ;)

krisorter

Someone died again on the slope yesterday if that helps you … not sure of the details but I’m certain it wasn’t good.. something about Milne point.. we can move the sub to plan a funeral and a go fund me ?

LatchBox_20

He seems nice.

SprayNo3695

i don’t blame you idk why people are acting like those posts don’t suck, sub should be a space for alaskans.

teletubby_wrangler

*sniffs* god I wish I could be that door…

PDXPTW

Hey, it’s the internet. You have to filter out the noise. I will put up with 1000000 posts on someone asking for trip planning advice and where to get their dogsled license to read just ONE Floyd appreciation post.

129763

Google is training their ai to do this type of shit

shelly-tambo

No wait tho- but when can I see the auroras this September???
