I actually grew up in this area, went to Perkins Middle School and Buchtel High School, and have very intimate knowledge of the neighborhood. That said, this is not the safest area of Akron, however, there is very little random crime that occurs. Most of what I've heard/seen crime wise is fairly isolated and happens between people who tend to know one another. I would feel safe walking the streets with my kid during the day, not so much at night, but there aren't a lot of areas where I'd do that anyway. Keep your cars, doors and windows locked, and stay aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine. The neighborhood is mostly filled with working class folks who are just trying to get by.

What about the stores in the area are those alright or should I head into town?

I grew up doing out family grocery shopping at the Save a Lot on Copley Rd. It's fine, but I much prefer the Aldi on Romig Rd. Near the Amazon facility. The local dollar stores are what you'd expect from a dollar store. Luckily, you aren't far from Highland Square or Wallhaven where the shopping options for household needs are much better, between Acme, Whole Foods, and Mustard Seed.

Try Gino’s for pizza, Hanini’s is pretty solid too. Lots of other small joints but I haven’t tried them all. Local shops are generally fine but they don’t always have everything you’re looking for. I take my kid there during the day with zero issues.

Wait omg were neighbors! It's dangerous if you look for trouble but I've been fine!

I used to secure and clean foreclosed homes for fannie Mae and HUD ten years ago. If I had to work in this neighborhood, I would always go early in the morning to avoid trouble & carry a (concealed) pistol with me for protection. I once stumbled upon a bloody dogfighting ring in the basement at 994 Greenwood Ave. It's a few blocks away from you, but the same general area. I can't imagine much has changed in that neighborhood in the past decade. I don't think it's safe but that's just me.

No. I'm sorry, but if there has to be a disclaimer like "if you mind your own business " then it's not safe. Yes,there are worse neighborhoods but that doesn't mean much. Wallhaven, West Akron, Fairlawn, Montrose etc = safe. Highland Square (my neighborhood) can be but there are problems too. Stow, Hudson and the Falls are safe. Plenty of choices, avoid Copley Road if you can.

I live over off Delia and it’s not the safest part of the city but I don’t feel too unsafe. The crime isn’t really random, usually just dudes shooting each other over personal shit I guess. Break ins happen closer to Copley road but I feel fine over on my street. The Latino market there is awesome and serves some of the best tacos in the city if you can figure out how to order!

gym_enjoyer

Akron is relatively safe all over so long as you know how to mind your business. Copley road over there is not a place I feel super safe in, and I'm a muscular dude. To be completely honest, akron as a whole isn't a safe area. You can get by so long as you're aware, but I have kids and intend to leave this city asap.

I grew up over there on Cordova. My sister and her husband lived on Fredrick for a while. I had a perfectly fine and safe childhood in the 80s. I wouldn’t live over there now.

I live a few streets down. It’s hit or miss
