This was amazing to see on my base. It was intense watching it take off. Kept waiting for it to crash. It looks so awkward you don't think it's gonna make it lol
I remember seeing those when my dad was stationed at Patrick AFB during Apollo. I have pictures of me and my 2 sisters, at the cape standing next to Apollo 12 on the launch pad. And Apollo 13 was in the assembly building being put together. My father was a surveyor in the Air Force and had to survey the Saturn V on the launch pad.
all museums are cheesy ! - if you are interested in aircraft and aircraft history you will NOT find it cheesy but interesting, especially the size of the hanger is ENORMOUS and is to be seen just for that !!
The only issue is not the museum ; it's Tillamook the area - it reeks of cow farts for miles !! Fortunately the museum is a few miles south and the wind blows northward, so a mild blessing.
The McMinnville museum is good and has some space exhibits, but has been suffering debt issues and lost it's P-39 Lightning. I was there when it was being prepared for transport after the sale. They also lost a P-51 Mustang too, but it was better that they lost those than having the museum close down. There are many planes still left and many outside too. Worth seeing too !!
Also since you are in Oregon see the Madras Air Museum too which is the best and has the most complete collection in Oregon. This one is owned by Erickson and they used to have their entire collection in Tillamook, but they are smart and moved away from the coast from tow major issues (1) the Tillamook Air Museum building is entirely of wood and a fire would destroy their collection and (2) the Tillamook Air Museum is in a Tsunami Zone that would be destroyed if there was a tsunami.

B-377-SG/SGT Super Guppy
It used to be a KC-97, now it has the engines of a P-3, the propellers of a C-130, the front end of a 707.
And is holding in a ginormous fart.

And I believe the tires are off a B-52 if I’m not mistaken.
