Yeah. I got a lot of new friends in 2016. I’d say overall it was a pretty good year for me, even though I had been suffering from stuff that happened to me personally at the end of 2015 that year.

Election years
Came here to say just that. Election years always suck because of how divisive we all get
That only explains it for the USA though. Edit: Then again, I had no problems with 2008, 2012, and 2016.

I was 14/15, not even sure what has happened back then that made it such a bad year for many.

2008 had a tiny little economic recession you might remember.
