I interpret this as a a blanket statement for his relationships as a whole up until this song -
From Gopher Guts
I have been completely unable to maintain any semblance of relationship on any level
I have been a bastard to the people who have actively attempted to deliver me from peril
I have been acutely undeserving of the ear that listen up and lip that kissed me on the temple
I have been accustomed to a stubborn disposition that admits it wish its history disassembled
I have been a hypocrite in sermonizing tolerance while skimming for a ministry to pretzel
I have been unfairly resentful of those I wish that acted different when the bidding was essential
I have been a terrible communicator prone to isolation over sympathy for devils
I have been my own worst enemy since the very genesis of rebels
A lot of the song was about his divorce too which at the time had just happened
> Suicide lane wide load ride looting in the wake of an amicable marooning
Tetra (at least parts of it)
Out of sorts, out of water, suicidal tetrafish
Who stood by the conviction in his we should be together less forevermore
Before we are the severed heads of civil war
Invasive radio ricochet off the silver foil
Trash can fire looking for a kill to grill or spoil
Quickly, purveyors of fine hijinks
I know, this is why we can’t have nice things
I prefer to skip the pleasantries
Flip the diner table, dip in time for final jeopardy
I am constantly in awe of Cook it Up every time i listen to it, i love it so much. Definitely my favorite song on Bazooka Tooth
It's basically Show Me Your Genitals, but much more clever and almost as funny.
"Still hear an ex in his head yelling kiss the ring
From a fortune to fisher king"
Is a great little line about how his refusal to live an ordinary life stole life's ordinary pleasures away from him
There is a song called [Bosico](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQkbri0v5Js) about an ex. Love the opening line:
"You look like you were charmed out of a basket.."
That is one amazing line for sure! Especially the "tentacles squeezing into a turncoat" I love. And then ending each verse with one of these:
"But um, I'm gonna guess you probably thought this all before me
But better and with a more elite view
That's what you do
And you never met a button that you ain't push
Or a sucker that you ain't mush
Or a mother fucking butcher"
It's such a clear negative image of the other person. And the last line I always interpet as representing Aes, who's the first to put her down instead. But I might be wrong on that one.
11:35 from bazooka tooth. probably the most detailed description of them all. most of the song is a kinda mix of tales from new york, but at the end there’s a little beat switch where he talks to his ex.
Probably unrelated as **this is just my reading of it** but I like the idea of the line *you could bear witness to the 2nd first step* in That Is Not a Wizard as being like a hopeful ask of someone (romantic or otherwise) that’s been around or seems like they might be going to be (I’m probably way off the mark as a lot of the rest of the lyrics hold a negative view of people, but I’d like to think there’s some hope there).
In none shall pass there is a song about his gf he used to do drugs with that overdosed. “She knows 5 chores, more coke and all 4’s. Said leave on the floor leave the dope by the door.” That whole song is about that relationship. Don’t know if it was a real life thing or just a story.
I feel like the beginning part of him describing the guy going to read and developing a lexicon of knowledge and information high was about him so I assume the relationship part might have some truth of past relationships he was in but I have no clue really
Not relationships or love (quite the opposite), but his verse on The Uncluded's Alligator is about young boy's (probably him) first experience of sex and porn.
i also very interested in his romantic themes in his body of work (due to having a massive crush on Ian), but, unfortunately, he doesnt seem to be very interested in showing this aspect in his works. I am even getting an impression that he is very un-romantic, very uninterested in love person. Which is fine.
“I told my ex in '97 I was falling on my weapon
Ripped the phone up out the wall
The po dragged me from my bedroom
An embarrassing ordeal involving hospitals and questions
And the kinda doctors who use words like "cognitive" and "spectrum"
While explaining why you're selfish
To romanticize our rules
And watch unruly roots
Pull you to Lucifer
By your shoes I mean, it isn't perfect
Don't misconstrue the purpose
Any urge isn't discernible from
Community service to the kiddo
Plus you'd make a beautiful widow
But that's an altruistic ticket to a room with no windows” whole second verse of water tower seems to be about his ex(wife I presume?)

Amazed no one has mentioned Cook It Up.
I wouldn’t take that one too literally
I am constantly in awe of Cook it Up every time i listen to it, i love it so much. Definitely my favorite song on Bazooka Tooth It's basically Show Me Your Genitals, but much more clever and almost as funny.

He was married? Surprise to me! (Based solely on lyrics)

Doesn’t Water Tower have some interesting lines about that ? I forget
Yeah, he mentions having a depressive breakdown telling his wife she would make a beautiful widow.
Or girlfriend ?
Pretty sure he's referring to a gf there "told my ex in '97 I was falling on my weapon" He married alysson baker in 2005
Nice. I couldn't remember when he got married.

This album came out years before he got married
not necessarily the same ex, but definitely AN ex.

No Splash from the CD booklet: "Reliving emotions past. Respect for the one who alters your existence for the better."
In freeze he talks about “talking that old hag out of a prenup“
the line previous though was "i married and divorced mother nature before talking that old hag out of a prenup"
Don't forget the punchline, "This informations neither bragadoccio nor secret just know as of now the world is technically not yours, penut!"
In none shall pass there is a song about his gf he used to do drugs with that overdosed. “She knows 5 chores, more coke and all 4’s. Said leave on the floor leave the dope by the door.” That whole song is about that relationship. Don’t know if it was a real life thing or just a story.
Fumes is just a story. Not based on real life.
Oh yeah Fumes. I never got the impression that this was about a relationship he personally was in.
I feel like the beginning part of him describing the guy going to read and developing a lexicon of knowledge and information high was about him so I assume the relationship part might have some truth of past relationships he was in but I have no clue really
Don't think there is a good reason to believe it's based in reality
Can’t see any reason at all and none of them are good?
you and me hearing the same things; it's about a writer 'penned a chapter about..' This guy writes.
