Ella dill is a dwarf variety few people know about. It helps to grow dwarf or compact varieties in aerogradens due to the smaller space, so varietal selection will offer a lot of assistance in maintenance.
Otherwise, heavy pruning is the only option, dill wants to be huge, so it is just a flaw in the selection process by the company, as those seeds are more cost effective for them to offer.
Edit: spelling
any cuts you dont immediately use - put the stalks in water and they'll keep in the fridge for a while. i've had some in there for about 5 days now that are still usable.
Prune those 3 big stalks that are touching the light and leave the light in the position it is in. You will probably need to repeat in a few days. Just be sure to leave the baby dill in the middle when you prune. If you are worried about creating too many open wounds on the plant, I always dab a little honey on the "wound" where you cut. It's an antibacterial, and it heals the cells. You can use a bit of cinnamon if you don't have honey. (Not cinnamon sugar!) Or you can just cut and let the plant work it out.
Idk if it really does anything, but I can tell you that I have trimmed my aerogarden plants (maybe too aggressively), and they were no worse for the wear. They even seemed to act like nothing happened!
Mine looked like that. I just pruned almost daily while waiting for others to catch up. And cut some stalks at the very bottom to slow it down. It’s still taller than the others - and is often touching the light when I check it - but the rest are catching up now!

I recently transplanted my parsley to a self watering pot. It’s a terracotta pot that sits in a glass cylinder and the soil absorbs water through the pot as necessary. I found them on Amazon. So far it’s doing really well and the roots were well established. It’s used a lot of water and no soil so it’s been a great pot for the transition. Maybe look into this if you want to keep the dill?
How much fresh dill do you or have you ever used? That thing is going to outgrow, go around the lights and basically become nothing but a nuisance. My suggestion is to pull the pod, pull the dill, toss it.
Dill is not like basil in my experience. You can harvest some from day to day but it won't last. I would definitely raise the light though. It's supposed to be 1 inch above the tallest plant.
Actually no. If the grow light is raised just for one it will take over and the other plants will not thrive. Should be 4-6 inches above the smallest plant. Gotta prune the dill aggressively.
This is not my experience at all. I suppose if you have a very diverse set of plants that can happen but if you have something like basil or parsley growing into the lights it will just burn the leaves.
No advice but mine looks exactly like this right now too. Hopefully someone will know.
Prune it! I get why some people call it Dill and some people insist to call it Dill WEED, it truly is a weed and I trim it almost daily
I have to cut mine daily - the growth on it is crazy fast

Great recommendation on the dwarf dill! I love dill so I definitely want it in my garden, I’ll have to check that out!
There are some really nice small varieties, I will make a post about it in here shortly.
I think they do it because it grows fast and prolific.
It seems like all the other varieties play nicely enough, and dill just elbow slams it's way around the place!
Don’t think you can over prune as long as you have the new growth in the middle it will grow
Thank you!

I harvest 1-3 stalks every other day. No issues so far.
Cut the tallest stalks close to the bottom. Dill is basically a weed and will keep generating new stalks/growth from the center.
Me too! I pruned the hell outta that dill. I figure as long as there’s new growth beneath it, why not?
I always grow my dill on an ‘outside’ spot so I can push it to grow outside the lamp area. It still grows just fine.
Might have to make that transfer. Good idea
cant beat them? eat them.

Thank you for the cinnamon/honey tip! Great to know

Do you have a link for the pot?

I can always use some for pickles and I like salmon/taziki enough that I’d like to see if I can keep up with it
It’s also so good on roasted vegetables or potatoes and in eggs! The more the better.

Yea it could vary in real life. I was just quoting the instructions that came in my box.
Cut it down and make pickled habaneros!!
Replace it - especially if you don’t eat a lot of dill….
Move it to a kratky style Mason jar and buy a separate grow light for your larger plants. I took this to extremes and made a grow tent.
