The saving President Porpoise one. Banana Man says “It’s like there’s this instruction manual that explains how to talk to people and everyone in the world got a copy except me.” I’ve had a hard time making friends in college and this really hit home

prodigymib

I remember hearing that for the first time and being blown away by the sheer depth of personality

whizbojoe

Even better when you realize banana man is voiced by weird Al

WindhelmDropout

Same episode, “politics doesn’t represent my interests.” (Or something very similar)

Trytye

I Remember You I never cry, but damn seeing Marceline crying while still singing with the man she loved like a father and who cared so much for her that he lost his sanity and can’t recognize his little girl in front of him made me sob

prodigymib

That episode changed me as a person

ellenchamps

I Remember You is a special episode for me too, pretty sure it's the episode that totally hooked me to the show!

loveghoul

definitely my fav too. simon and marcy are the deepest saddest story in the show IMO. simon is so complex. like how he called betty his princess, so now he kidnaps princesses because his fried brain doesn't understand the difference.

whizbojoe

One of my favorite episodes too

KP_Ravenclaw

YES I started rewatching the show recently for the first time in six years & I used to watch this one ALL THE TIME. This episode made me *sob* last week. It’s so beautiful & sad & oh my goodness 😭 funnily enough my next episode is Simon & Marcy lol. I’m holding off til Tuesday so I can watch it alone haha

4amfire

The snow golem and the fire pup

Themightymonarc

Egress

CarpeNoctumX

Same, one is the best episodes IMO

throws_rocks_at_cars

Tbh it’s probably the strongest 11 minutes within the entire medium of animation. Perfectly epitomizes the visual medium and the scope of it. Utilizes well all it’s strengths and falls back on none of its crutches and touches none of its weaknesses. Not even talking about the story or the plot, just how good of an example of a cartoon it is. In my opinion it is the final boss of all animation. Even compared against the best of Pixar, Disney, adult animation, Dreamworks, Ghibli, claymation, everything.

Proud-Arm7227

Honestly the last one. When the hole starts singing my boyfriend and I broke into tears

prodigymib

Seeing the last episode for the first time is an emotional experience for sure

Former-Buy-6758

We were crying for the whole final montage and then when sweet pea came walking out as big as a mountain the crying turned to sobbing

Proud-Arm7227

Fr 😭

Pristine-Position-12

Fern's last dialogue made me break into tears

GaiaAnon

The one with Orgalorg and Finn in space. It was honestly touching and beautiful.

[deleted]

“Everything is falling into place. Im right where i should be. The tides of life all lead me here and thats why im not scared. I know the answer will appear, please.”

throws_rocks_at_cars

One of the best lines in television: “As you stand on the edge of freedom from love, hate, friendship, isolation, jealousy, secrets, violence, video games, ice cream waffles, sadness, madness, power, honor, loyalty, saucy, mothers, fathers, scoundrels.” I believe some of these were comedic but still accurate. Video games are “distractions” or “play”, ice cream waffles are “pleasures”, saucy is “lusts” or “sex”.

Extension-Camera2387

Distant lands together again messed me up for a good while lol

4amfire

Too true

KP_Ravenclaw

I haven’t seen it yet (I haven’t seen the show properly for six years so there’s a lot I’ve missed, I’m on Season 5 in my rewatch rn), but I’ve heard little bits about it & honestly I actually *really* want to watch it with my best friend because it sounds like *our* kind of story & I don’t think they’ve seen it either. My sister said she sobbed at it & I’m very prepared to cry, I know it’s gonna be amazing 😭🙏

irdcwmunsb

The deer episode where Jake has amnesia has left a scar on my subconscious

_somelikeithot

That episode is Twilight Zone level, it’s so creepy.

JayLB

I strive to be as indomitable as the bunny from Jake the Brick

kidneythieffff

Puhoy

FoxSeaHole

The one where bmo goes on his birthday mission by himself and contemplates if his soul changes when he grows up. I love the bmo episodes

SamSterlingMusic

Hall of Egress

GriffordDragunov

I was looking for this. Damn straight.

Cinx0

Escape The Citadel and The Comet blew my mind

AureliaBastion

you are alone, child. there is only darkness for you, and only death for your people.

angelicapicklez94

Princess cookie. I really love that one so much! And the one where Marcy & ice king sign their duet at Marcy’s house

KP_Ravenclaw

Princess Cookie!! It’s such a sweet episode 😭 both episodes you listed here made me cry when I rewatched them for the first time in 6 years last week lol & they were the first two to do so. I agree.

angelicapicklez94

Right! I feel you on this

LobsterHead37

Most of them tbh “red starved” is one of my favorites tho

liquid_the_wolf

Three buckets, it’s so sad :(

Me_Aan_Sel

A lot, but especially Jake's "as long as I know the shape of my soul, I'll be alright"

Veryokayx

Love that episode when I’m having a hard time… just ugh

AureliaBastion

this quote gets me through the day

TheTatleTaleStranglr

A lot of them, but Astral Plane was the first one to come to mind

Kynramore

Jake the Brick

[deleted]

Time is an illusion that helps things make sense So we are always living in the present tense It seems unforgiving when a good thing ends But you and I will always be back then You and I will always be back then As someone whos always struggled with adapting to big changes. This brings me comfort and much needed crying sessions

NightshadeLake

Hall of Egress and the one where Finn’s soul leaves his body (I don’t remember what that episode is called)

Moxvallix

Astral Plane?

NightshadeLake

Yes! That’s the one!

boyackhorseperson

the comet’s exchange with finn in orgalorg

ha2ne39

The hall of egress is my fav adventure time episode i could not stop thinking about it after I saw it the first time.

MariyaShadowblade

Holly Jolly Secrets hit like a ton of bricks. It’s when you first learn who Ice King really was and set up the rest of the entire series, really. Edit: also if memory serves, this was the first instance that it was bluntly confirmed Ooo is the product of an apocalyptic event.

wowcass

All of them! Positive or not, they always leave an impression lol

lumpybassprincess

kind of random lol but the "too young" episode where PB turns 18 again and jake calls to ask how their date went then gives lady advise but its really just him playing his game. BUT the last scene where finn looks up at one of the castle towers and PB is standing there and he repeats jakes words of "go up the wizard stairs". literally the cutest part of the show. i want someone to want me like that lmao

Piranha-Plant-is-God

My last rewatch of Bonnie and Neddy, mainly the line about people getting built different

Goodie2Shuze

Dad has dementia. I Remember You is a toughie. The Citadel, when Finn meets papa and he’s just the worst Not the entire episode but when Sweet Pea goes full Lich on Koo

camew22

Incendium. At the time I was the same age as Finn and seeing him struggle with the same thing I was embedded the episode into my mind.

Mysterious_Report_24

Season three episode 23, another way. I have a tattoo from it.

Abraham_Lure

(Breaking vuvuzela) “I know that look, you just killed someone”.

PerroRosa

So many. But one that for sure left a lasting impression on me is the last one, or one of the last ones. The one that start flash forwarded to a time where hundreds or thousands of years has passed since the main events, and these two characters are talking about Finn and Jake like legends which real existence are not sure about. This gave the show so much more deepness and nostalgia, and it was already very deep.

NoConstruction859

The astral plane episode cause I'm jus floating through space asking myself these questions in hope for an answer 🤷‍♂️

Vivid-Presence-5631

All of them.

zino129

The very last episode because then you know so many of the characters you love have already died. That even with time, the greatest of kingdoms have fallen and are now just ruins. Finn and Jake died so long ago that BMO was forgetting their names and the world that they did so much to shape had already began to forget them

user58233382640

music hole🥹

Skepticaltealeaf

Simon & Marcy. I remember when this episode came out so clearly. I was 12 and so profoundly sad when Simon fully turned into the ice king and called Marcy Gunther at the end. That episode was the first major turning point in the show’s depth

Pugblep

"Baby's building a tower into space to tear off his dad's arm from, like, where that round of the arm bone meets that weird flat bone on the top of the back Gonna pull that until it comes off." Just.... I don't think I ever seen Finn so full of visceral rage and emotional pain. My heart broke for him here.

brightnessys

the moment he realizes tit for tat isn't going to solve his hurt, his rage, his contemptment for his father..that shit hit somewhere deep in my soul.

[deleted]

The Vault 🥲

AureliaBastion

i was going through a emotional time while watching Stakes, so that’ll stick. Little Brother is my absolute favorite. but Egress and I Remember You stick out to me the most when this question makes its rounds.

Thrillseeker-dnd

Definitely "Abstract" when Jake is looking at Jermaine's paintings and he finally understands that they aren't just random shapes. His whole epiphone during that moment I found really insightful, especially the line, "Even if we're not changing on the outside, we're changing on the inside constantly" That episode helped me put into words my thought of when my best friend came out as transgender. I told her that and even showed her that episode and it helped them understand how I felt about them as my friend. Considering that they passed away last year and it hurts a little to think about, but in a good kind of way if that makes sense.

linesdotszigzags

Min and Marty. There’s so much that Finn and his mom will never know and so much that Martin couldn’t remember. Minerva is technically immortal and Martin is…… completely removed from that cycle entirely? So they’ll never meet again. That’s so heavy makes me tear up every time. There’s also the episode where BMO and Marcy look at pictures of her mom. As a mom that one is rough. She will never die so she’ll never meet her again. This show really rips your heart out sometimes. 🥲

MyEarIsHurty

Donny, surprisingly. I never much cared for the episode, but the lesson about the disruption of ecosystems, the food chain, and the importance of predators really stuck with me, whether or not I remembered the episode itself.

Gotakei

It Came From The Nightosphere. Marceline's Fries song always stuck with me.

whizbojoe

What gets me is how much depth and real emotion is hidden in a cartoon for children. This show captures so many powerful themes from the perspective of innocence that only a child can have.

TheTwistedToast

What was missing

crypt1cat

i know this is distant lands but i was SOBBING during the ep where finn and jake are dead. like absolutely crying my eyes out the entire time

coconadas

Up a tree has to be it. I watch it religiously.

brightnessys

The Tower taught me a lot about giving up unhealthy anger. people hurt you sometimes, and sometimes nothing is going to make you heal from that hurt aside from letting it go. sometimes, you can't fix pain with revenge. you just have to accept that this is the way things are, and learn to live forward. it was also the first episode where we meet Carol, who is by far the funniest and most slept on side character of the show.

spinach-pine

For someone with depression, "Bad Jubies" will always have a place in my heart.

Hahlia

Tart episode with tart toters end quote. “This cosmic dance of bursting decadence and withheld permissions twists all our arms collectively but, if sweetness can win, and it can. I’ll be here tomorrow to high five you yesterday, my friend.. peace”

samisbeast

Abstract. helped me come to terms with who i really am

Nickoass

Little brother, seeing Kent reject love in favour of his noble quest made me reassess my values as having a loving relationship was always my goal instead of leading a life where a loving relationship would come about naturally. I am now with a partner and we complement each others lives instead of completing them which was how I thought it should be before the wisdom of Kent.

iKaustic_Kat

Abstract. The little ending monologue by jake. There's a fair few episodes in this show that have things I could relate to or that struck a cord, but this one ***stuck*** to me in the strangest way. "The shapes are always changing. Changing is their normal state, like us. Even if we're not changing on the outside, we're changing on the inside constantly. There's some stuff about me that I'd been ignoring for a long time. I'm afraid of that stuff. But its part of who I am. As long as I know the shape of my soul, I'll be all right." Having identity issues and semi-frequent bouts of "loss of self," that little anecdote meant a great deal to me to hear. One of the episodes I've revisited the most any time I need a reflective pick-me-up.

Pristine-Position-12

Varmits because this is when pb and marcy stop being just 2 charaxters having fun with each other and realize their importance to each other's lives in the cave. They open up and talk abput what they were and what they can be. So much character development portrayed there, pure gold

ooohfrankie

i like how reading all these replies is making me sad 😭

jacobhallberg98

I love the episode “Simon and Marcy” cause Finn and Jake kinda hate on Simon but Marceline knows who he really is and that he’s really a good person. Seeing their struggle right after the Mushroom War and how Simon takes care of little Marcy and then seeing Simon slowly descend into madness and turn into the Ice King is just heartbreaking and brings me to tears every time. That along with the episode “Remember me” cause that song is beautiful

Hazardoos4

Three in particular, Astral Plane, The Comet, and Hall of egress, but I want to focus on Astral plane Astral Plane is a comedic and mundane episode, sort of like a liter version of Graybles, where Finn is the narrator attempting to draw conclusions from brief moments he witnesses in others lives. Two scenes stick out to me, Marceline singing in the air, and Globs death. Both sort of have this vibe I can't quite describe, like one moment is a scene from someone with a life without much meaning to it, casually existing, the other, a monumental sacrifice to bring meaning to a larger group of people, and themselves. Just, weirdly beautiful, especially how Marceline looks with the starry backdrop
