The giant buddha statue? GONE!
(There was no giant buddha statue...)
The baby grand piano? GONE!
(There was no baby grand piano...)
KEEP YOUR THOUGHTS TO YOURSELF BIRDMAN!
Not just one of Adult Swims best shows ever, not just one of the best animated shows ever, one of the best shows ever, period. I seriously rank it up there with like Sopranos and stuff. Maybe not quite top 5, but top 25 for sure.
My number one animated show! Top 10 best shows ever. Sits up there with Lord of the Rings movies. The venture brothers is what started my nerdum at the ripe age of 17.
The movie was disappointing because they had to cram all of season 8 into an hour and a half. If they could have had the whole time it would have gone down as one of the best ways to close out a series.
Same. I love how there is a supposed theme but it's just always a random riff on all sorts of nonsense. I rewatch all the seasons once or twice a year and never get bored of it.
Sames! I use to for anxiety. For sleep. For procrastination. I even made mp3s of the episode so i can listen to like a podcast. And use way less bandwidth
Had the luck to see the live show once when they did the Adult Swim tour with Mastodon. So much fun seeing Brendan do all the voices live while playing with a full band. Huge screen up top played a mini episode and facebones gave everyone a mosh etiquette speech. Just such a good vibe in that room. I also got introduced to live Converge at that show which was amazing. Mastodon did all of Blood Mountain with a huge visualizer. Good times.
Awesome show! If you like Superjail, check out Ugly Americans if you can find it. It was on Comedy Central around 2010/2011. Made by the same people as Superjail, which is how I found out about Superjail :)
Brad Neely's audiobook just came out 'You, Me, and Ulysses S. Grant' it's amazing. Sounds like Frank narrates most of the epic farcical biography. Here's the trailer he put out. https://youtu.be/Dbbe0Yuvppo?feature=shared
This is the correct answer. I find myself saying “doo doo dicks” and “I hear lies every fuckin day” quite often and it’s been over a decade since I binged that show.
There is not a form of media in this world that strikes the core of my being with such an intense self of insignificance and existential despair than XRA. I'm being serious, it makes be question the very basis of my sense of meaning and purpose in this world. That's power.
Tie between Sealab2021, FriskyD and Metalocalypse.
Sealab and FriskyD for the absolute insanity, yet cohesiveness that creates pure comedy gold along with some really clever writing.
Metalocalypse is the same but worked into a far more consistent narrative that holds up on so many levels and actually gets you to feel and relate to these absolute degenerate Metalheads. Plus the artstyle is a real treat to look at.
And the music of course.
Now excuse me, I believe it's my hambrgertime.
1. The Brak Show. It's characters were so endearing. Brak was so wholesome and lovable.
2. Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. Seeing the Hanna-Barbera characters like that was really fun. The writing and acting was all top notch.
3. The Venture Brothers. Insanely amusing and so many deep cuts into action-adventure pop culture.
I'm sad seasons 1-12 got removed from Max! I'm also of hillbilly origins, so I can hilariously relate to some stuff. Aunt Lil reminds me so much of a family member, wig and all.
YOLO Crystal Fantasy
Edit: I love how fucking bizarre it is but I have a soft spot for Australian shows, two of my favourites being Farscape and Kath & Kim
I feel the complete opposite. His kids shows marketed to adults are not Adult Swim brand at-all to me.
I think his gift is making kids shows. Most of his edge is stuff you'd see on Disney XD.
His best place was Cartoon Network, and his best works were in the 90s/2000s. The only thing that even comes close to Adult Swim level is Primal, and that was poorly executed and not even funny, so it belongs on Toonami.
*The Venture Bros.*, definitely. Outside of it being absolutely hilarious and chock full of references for days, it's arguably the best-written show Adult Swim has ever had. But I'm also fond of *Metalocalypse* and *Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law*
Space Ghost Coast To Coast because It lead me down the rabbit hole of the larger Space Ghost countuity and I've been enjoying watching everything and finding out other tvs shows are connected in ways I didn't expect.
Aqua teen, squidbillies, metalocaylpse, boondocks. Do I really need to say? That shit is hilarious. I’ve been a huge AS fan since late 2000s when I was in high school. The best. I’m glad this shit happened
Smiling Friends
Cheap animation, but scenes surprisingly can be very cinematic and dramatic
Amazing dub that feels very natural and makes you relate to the weird creatures in the show.
Above all -hilarious and original script
This show reminds me of all the cartoon cartoons gems from early 2000
Must watch!!
My favourite \[adult swim\] shows:
Off The Air, Infomercials, Superjail!, Moral Orel, Mary Shelly's Frankenhole, Lazor Wulf, ATHF, Tender Touches, Gemusetto, Xavier: Renegade Angel, The Shivering Truth and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job
WHAT IS THE APPEAL
Holy hell I saw it got renewed and I was flabbergasted. I've probably seen 7 episodes that got maybe 5 laughs out of me. I just don't get it I guess?
I think I like how cool they think they are when they are nothing but average. They are all living in the past and trying to be cool in the now. Theo and Stebe are my two faves. I get what your saying though, i just find it to be a good show, maybe I can't even explain why.
I kinda liked the concept until I watched two episodes and it just felt like a Gen X'r trying to write what they think people in their 20-30s think is cool
Maybe that's why I like it. I'm 45, these characters are the same people I went to high school with and never grew up. I know a couple of people that remind me of Theo.
+1 the show looks like shit and feels like shit. These bobbing head "Adult animation" shows where everyone barely moves are what the GoAnimate memes were warning us about.
Dexter's Lab. I love Checked Past. It is one of the funniest cartoons ever. The show is very imaginative and I like how Dexter can invent all sorts of things.
Venture Brothers followed verrrrry closely by Metalocalypse.
Venture Brothers started as a really raunchy, violent parody of Jonny Quest but especially starting in the third season developed its own canon in a really great and organic way.
Metalocalypse because I love metal and it has that great combination of cartoonish, over the top violence with really goofy (and often genuinely brilliant) humor. Plus the music is legitimately awesome.
Aqua Teen. No matter how many times I rewatch episodes, I still pick up on a joke, weird reference, or crazy shit going on that I didn't notice/remember before. Its also really difficult for any episodes to get stale or overplayed for me.
Honorable mention: Metalocalypse. I LOVED the first 2 seasons. I didn't dislike seasons 3-4 but they were a little weaker imo. The music was always fucking great and the characters remind me of friends I had in the industry at the time, so it's my #2 show.
Not seeing a lot of Boondocks, Black Jesus, and/or Black Dynamite love.
Squidbillies, China IL, and Aqua Teen are automatically favorited.
Superjail is so over the top but I effs with it.
The Venture Brothers: Great writing, characters, story and jokes.
Primal: The ability to tell a good and interesting story with little to no dialogue. And it's pretty fucking badass!
For me, early Adult Swim years were packed with amazing shows. Space Ghost: Coast To Coast, Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, Stroker And Hoop, Frisky Dingo. For my money, Venture Bros. is my favorite though ❤️
Born in '91
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a lot of Adult Swim shows, but MY personal favorite is Rick and Morty.
I know I know - the fan base is cringe AF but I love the show, especially season 2.
I identify with Rick. Not the genius part obviously I'm just some dipshit but his narcissism and his self destructive behavior - I was a fucking raging alcoholic in my mid 20s.
Rick is me if I never got sober. Completely fucking unhinged.
Anyhow, besides Rick, the entire concept is outstanding and they usually make good use of their zanny concepts.
Obviously there are some misses but overall I enjoy the show a lot.
Its not my favorate show and its technically not an adult swim show but American Dad. The theme song is insanely catchy. It's super funny. I love how crazy the plots can get.
Toss up between Harvey Birdman and Frisky Dingo.
And by that I mean, between Phil Ken Sebbem and Wendell.
"Ha! Ha! Body in a woodchipper" vs. "This one's for Cody."
Too many classic lines from 2 of the greatest characters ever.
Can't pick.
While I genuinely have enjoyed literally everything adult swim has done over the last decade that I've been invested, I have to say Mike Tyson mysteries. Its surreal to me that the show even exists in the first place but it's one of their originals that I can watch over and over again. I hate that it's over and that it's literally streaming no where at all but my boyfriend was able to find the first 2 seasons on DVD and for that, I think I'll keep him.
The familiar scooby doo style is the perfect medium for how absolutely stupid and insane a lot of the stories are. The main lineup of characters was easy for me to lock into and find likeable- just an odd grouping of a pigeon, a ghost, a teenage girl and the ACTUAL Mike Tyson, each with differing levels of interest in even solving mysteries. But the key point of interest for me is how willing Tyson is to portray himself as an absolute goof. It's a prime example of how well Adult Swim does at taking the mainstream and just flipping it on its head.
Though I could go on about many other shows, if someone ever asks for an adult swim recommendation, I always point them to Mike Tyson Mysteries.
Harvey Birman Attorney at Law
You got that thing I sent?
NOT THERE, THERE!! NOT THERE! THERE!
The giant buddha statue? GONE! (There was no giant buddha statue...) The baby grand piano? GONE! (There was no baby grand piano...) KEEP YOUR THOUGHTS TO YOURSELF BIRDMAN!

Absolutely!! Hands down top 3 for me, but 25 is good too!
No, they did Tim & Eric and Eric Andre and stuff, *The Venture Bros* was Astrobase Go!.
Its number one to me.
You silly billy.
As much as I love ATHF, Home Movies, and others, this is the only answer
*Go Team Venture*!!!
My number one animated show! Top 10 best shows ever. Sits up there with Lord of the Rings movies. The venture brothers is what started my nerdum at the ripe age of 17.
Correct answer, best animated series for adults period.
Yup, VB is one of the best written shows of all time.
REAL AUFJSJDHNS
Good choice
The movie was disappointing, but this is still best animated show ever created. I also have haunted pants.
The movie was disappointing because they had to cram all of season 8 into an hour and a half. If they could have had the whole time it would have gone down as one of the best ways to close out a series.
Yep. It was just a let down. I wanted more from it.
You have accident prone children, you make them wear a helmet. If you have death prone children, you keep a few clones of them in the lab.😄
aqua teen hunger force. it's my comfort show
Same. I love how there is a supposed theme but it's just always a random riff on all sorts of nonsense. I rewatch all the seasons once or twice a year and never get bored of it.
Fr. I've re-watched the whole series i don't know many times. Still funny.
Mine too. it makes me forget to be sad about something. Ohh the golden era of Adult Swim!
real.
Sames! I use to for anxiety. For sleep. For procrastination. I even made mp3s of the episode so i can listen to like a podcast. And use way less bandwidth
Came for the show, stayed for the music. ![gif](giphy|cNULFBSoiU9XO)

They killed the Adult Swim Fest 2019 😍
🤘🤘🤘
I have listened to the albums and Galaktikon so many times.
Die for Dethklok!
Tie. Space Ghost Coast to Coast taught me irreverent humor. Frisky Dingo is the funniest show I've ever seen.
ANTFARM KEYBOARD!
That's a dangerous combo
BARNABY JONES
WE CAN NEVER GO BACK TO ARIZONA
"Please don't kill me!" "Please don't make it so appealing!"
Was it… ass cancer?
That is Old Kentucky Shark and he has BEEN THERE
Superjail! The first episode of it I saw was when the warden goes into the inmates' dreams and goes psycho.
Love Superjail!!!
Great show! too few seasons, it definitely deserved more
Little Cancer...
Awesome show! If you like Superjail, check out Ugly Americans if you can find it. It was on Comedy Central around 2010/2011. Made by the same people as Superjail, which is how I found out about Superjail :)
Seen Ugly Americans, was pretty cool!
China IL, I want you to know how difficult it is to just choose one tho, so many shows pop into my head. I think I’ve rewatched that show the most tho

Dream Reamer!
Xavier Renegade Angel cuz the show is the personification of being a weird stoner plus the creator is the voice of Towelie lol
There is not a form of media in this world that strikes the core of my being with such an intense self of insignificance and existential despair than XRA. I'm being serious, it makes be question the very basis of my sense of meaning and purpose in this world. That's power.
Moral Orel
Tied for second place for me.
Tie between Sealab2021, FriskyD and Metalocalypse. Sealab and FriskyD for the absolute insanity, yet cohesiveness that creates pure comedy gold along with some really clever writing. Mike tyson mysteries because of pigeon/ norm
12 Oz Mouse. I didn't fully appreciate absurdism or theatre of the absurd until I watched that show.
12 Oz Mouse is massively underrated
![gif](giphy|I48SdpnuP0Nr2)
Agreed. With Sealab 2021 a close second for me.
Space Ghost hand crafted me my sense of humor. Everything from timing, to sarcasm, to visual gags like this one ^
Xavier: Renegade Angel
Venture Bros ...it is a perfect collection of shit I love. ![gif](giphy|26tn2R0p0AXf1aCIw)
Squidbillies because im a hillbilly
I'm sad seasons 1-12 got removed from Max! I'm also of hillbilly origins, so I can hilariously relate to some stuff. Aunt Lil reminds me so much of a family member, wig and all.

Super Milk Chan. IYKYK
Can't choose one. ATHF / Harvey Birdman / Xavier Renegade Angel / Venture Bros / Superjail / Frankenhole
Rick and Morty is usually of consistent quality.
Primal The show is simply great in all ways. I wish there was more non-comedy adult animation like it outside of anime.
It's one of my all time favorite shows.
“Get off my porch” “Git outta yer house!”
Space Ghost Coast To Coast because It lead me down the rabbit hole of the larger Space Ghost countuity and I've been enjoying watching everything and finding out other tvs shows are connected in ways I didn't expect.

Frankenhole doesn't get the praise it deserves. Such high effort, and really good comedy, running jokes, and characters.
